      Why? So we could lose AFC championship games at home? So we could lose against an expansion Houston Texans even though they only had 47 yards on offense and 3 first downs? So we could continually downplay the QB position (even when Ben was there) and lose games because we were too dedicated to the run and couldn't make comebacks? Cowher was great, but his team had serious weaknesses, just like Tomlin's teams. And, there were just as many people then crying out they would take Noll back, completely forgetting all of Noll's problems the last few years he was coach. Hindsight isn't always 20/20 when nostalgia over-rules reality.

    O'Donnell dropping some dimes! Imagine if Najee goes 1992 Barry Foster? I believe his 12 100 yard rushing games is still tied for the most in NFL history and is the AFC most ever. Here's a fun fact: #20 Dwight Stone is the fastest receiver to ever play for the Steelers.

    • @TheTicktockman321
      @TheTicktockman321 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I remember about this game is Stone dropped about 3 passes that were right in his hands and got benched for dropping a punt. On the last 3rd down, I was screaming "just don't let stupid Stone touch the dang ball!" Then he reverses for the game sealing 1st down. Everyone in the house was giving it to me pretty bad. I didn't live that down for weeks.

    We didn't have the Sunday Ticket back in the day so we had to rely on the sport ticker showing scores of other games, updates from broadcast studio, and /or a blowout to skip to another game.
    12 years old, I didn't think the Steelers were going to beat the Oilers bc they were tough at home but when " Steelers 29 Oilers 24 F " showed up from the sports ticker, I was shocked. My dad came in from his bedroom to see smiling saying he knew a friend that recorded on vcr and was going to get it the next day to see what the hell happened bc he was shocked as well.

    were there no clips of him yelling and spitting on the sidelines in the first 3 quarters? Is it really a Cowher video if we're not showing Cowher's jaw? That's like a Pete Carroll video without any gum.

    I'm only guessing but aside from Ben and Bradshaw, O'Donnell was the best QB in Steeler history.

    Man I miss them days. Football was just more exciting and played by men who seem to give it all they had. I’m over all the Social Justice B.S these pre madonnas have on their football helmets and all the woke B.S writing on the field and goalposts. I used to LOVE the NFL. The Lefts B.S just sucked the love out of me for the game I loved.

    Yes, the Steelers are down right now after 2020 and their downfall at the end of the year......yes, it appears as if more bad times are ahead when Ben retires as the offense and defense cupboard is not filled very well right now.......but we've been spoiled with success for YEARS.........however, to everyone wishing Cowher was back, remember this statistic:: Bill Cowher as a head coach was 1-4 in HOME AFC TItle games. 1 and 4.....and that 1 win only happened because the Colts Quentin Coryat dropped a gimme pick in the 4th and the Steelers surviveda hail mary at the end.......of all 4 losses, outside 2004 where the Pats were the better team, there is only one reason they lost those games...Cowher coached the playoffs scared to make a mistake and it cost him and the team time and time again......94 vs SD they were the WAY better team but werent as aggressive as normal cause it was the playoffs. 95 vs IND they were the WAY better team and the same thing happeend (although they won). 97 vs Den they handled the Broncos and put a bunch of points on the board near the end of the regular season, but again they were coached scared and only woke up when it was way too late. 2001 vs NE, Bettis goes for a pain shot and it messes him up. They had no other plans from the way they played the game until, again, they were down and had to try and dig out..which they couldnt. You really want that back? I don't. Tomlin's had 2 AFC title games at home, and the team won them both.....
    Oh and Cowher's 1 Super Bowl? The Steelers played like dog shit in that game. Their entire highlight package is two plays........
    Cowher coached like his mentor Marty Schottenheimer....and both collapsed in major situations a LOT.

    His first game looks like every game Tomlin has after 12 years. And as many Super Bowl titles except I’d still bet that Cowher would have 2 if he didn’t retire. Tomlin is the new Marvin Lewis of the AFC North. He’s been out coached by every team within and more than half the others in the AFC. A great players coach and gets players to buy in better than any in the NFL but totally sucks in pivotal games. Sadly nobody around is better to replace him so we gotta ride out the greats to see this slightly above average be great himself among the rookie class

      There is SO much that goes into a head coach. Talent Eval. Getting the most out of his players. Hiring great asst coaches. Game management. Strategy. Handling adversity. Getting along with the General Manager and ownership. Starting the best players. Keeping the players buying in and motivated. Handling difficult personalities. On and on and on. I think that Tomlin is exceptional at most of these things, and the only thing I feel he is NOT very good at is hiring great asst coaches. If he was better at this, then his strategy and game management deficiencies would be improved by vocal assistants. I often felt that Cowher had a tough time starting the right players, and that lost us many games. But all it takes is being bad at just ONE of those things, and the team can suffer. Tomlin's Asst Coach hires have definitely cost us a lot of success.

      @Baba Ganush That's an interesting thing to decide is a problem. I have a hard time believing that curtailing excitement (which is a high-vibrational emotion that creates positive thinking, camaraderie, and encouragement) would INCREASE the team's chances of winning games...
