- I remade the previous version of this video with some USC highlights added. OJ Simpson was a great runner of the football with breakaway speed (on and off the field). Was the first player in NFL history to run for over 2,000 yards in a single season (14 games!). Was named 1973 NFL MVP, a 5x All Pro and a Hall of Famer. Ran for over 11,000 yards and scored 76 total touchdowns. Easily a top ten runningback ever imo; too bad his off the field activities tarnished his legendary football legacy.
No matter what his life was like outside of football NOBODY can erase 2,000 yards in 14 games, 1973💪🏼👊🏻💪🏼

Facts
in spite of O.J's off the field troubles...no one can deny the man's football greatness. and a pretty good actor too.
He should have gotten the Academy Award for his performance in "Not Guilty". From a football standpoint, Jim Brown is probably the only back I would put ahead of Simpson and even that is not a definite thing. Brown, Barry Sanders, Tony Dorsett, and the like all had other offensive components that were consistent and got their teams somewhere. Simpson was essentially it for Buffalo and their record showed for the most part. The fact he averaged 143 rushing yd per game in 1973 is absolutely mind blowing, even back in the run conscious era of the early '70s. Every team knew he was the gameplan and was watching for him, yet he would carve them up and the Bills more often than not still lost

I seem to remember O.J. having a small role in 'Roots' when it first aired way back in my childhood days; Roots was an epic network TV series with two hour episodes and everyone watched it, and it probably won some awards.
He was a shitty actor and a mass murderer.
Man, if he played for a more glamorous team like the Giants or Cowboys and won a Super Bowl, they wouldn't have railroaded his life over his ex-wife.
The way he just knifed through and carved up his opponents was unbelievable.
Single handedly he sliced up & slaughtered those defenders all by himself

I remember watching O.J. Simpson in the seventies. To this day I have never seen a more explosive and exciting running back.

Thank you. That is exactly what he did. His field vision was unsurpassed. People can make their stupid jokes about his later years all they want, but when he was playing he was the best in the league.
I watched a Bobby Orr video today and the way he skated reminded me of OJ and Marcus Allen!
All 3 had unbelievable vision, slashing and Speed!
I saw him play at USC (Yes, Im that old!!) It was his speed that was the killer. I recall a 35 yard sweep play against Oregon State his Senior year. They pitched the ball to him, going right ... and he just beat the entire D to the corner of the end zone.

As a human being, he disappointed us-he was reprehensible, really. What a crazy fall from grace! But his on-field exploits were undeniably impressive. His evasive, powerful runs were one of the reasons I fell in love with American football as a child watching with my dad. He was so fun to watch!

Yup, I've not seen anybody single handedly carry a team like that in recent times. Even AP had an O-line and some sort of support. Not a QB completing only 4 passes for less then 30 yards
@@frankbridges2171he probably wouldn’t have as many yards then.. he was the Bills offense. The O-Line in all of these clips besides maybe 2-3 was getting down the field with him. Put him on a contender that means a decent/great QB, 2 solid WRs, and a top 15 (at least) defense. That takes away some of those yards.

We Ole' Skool Fools who Grew Up Watching OJ Play can tell You he had it all. Speed, Moves, Size & Endurance. It's too bad Most will Remember Him for the Off-The-Field Court Case.

The most dominant RB in the history of the NFL...Walter was great, Jim Brown was great, OJ was just freaking incredible in every way...evasive, speed, get to the prize, loves contact...only Mr. Payton loved and thrived on Contact more. Simpson joined the Bills in '69, but it wasn't until '72 that he got his first 1,000+ yard season, and under coach Lou Saban in '73, he rushed for 2,003 yards. He was great, certainly, and when he got a step on a defender I never saw him brought down.

Wrong. OJ played on USC's National Championship Team that defeated Indiana in the Rose Bowl where Simpson was named MVP.
He dismembered the rival defense. Absolutely knifed the defense. The way how he slashed through the teams like a midnight assassin. A true cut throat player

O.J. did what he could with a bad Bills team. If OJ had played for the Steelers, Raiders, Cowboys or Dolphins, he would have won many superbowls, and maybe have been remembered as the GOAT.

Checking on gloves...Nahh wasn't wearing gloves, didn't fit well.

He was my hero then and still appreciated by me for witnessing such a great talent! I was 14 yrs old when he broke the single game rushing record with 273 yards rushing! I remember it well!
O J was a bad boy. He was my favorite football player when I started watching football. And he was very kind to us when we perform for him, at his Laguna Beach house, and his house at Rockingham.
Bills had no offensive line and OJ still ran a record number of yards in 1 season. Bills were never any good back then, but Simpson was unreal. I watched the games just to watch him run the ball.
Au contraire. Your memory sucks. He didn't do shit until the Bills got Reggie and his fellow linemen.The Bills offensive line was very good during those years, especially in the running game. Joe Ferguson was a hell of a good quarterback, and could have used another star receiver. On the ground, McKenzie and company consistently got OJ into the defensive secondary, where he did his "unreal" thing. Frankly, I was outraged when Bills ownership did not bolster the defense, and began selling off talent. They were on the brink of the superbowl a generation before they ended up getting there, and they blew it. I'm pretty sure you were not a Bills fan.

Not quite true. Lou Saban gave him a good offensive line with Reggie Mackenzie in '72 (Simpson's first 1,000 yd season), and Joe DeLamielleure in '73 (Simpson's 2,003 yd season). Both were Pro Bowlers as I recall. From '69 to '71, Buffalo did not have a good team, but that changed when Lou Saban became head coach.

I don't like post-murder OJ, but I was a Bills fan during his time there, watched him run for 2,000 yards, and he was my hero. People say he wasn't a bruising runner like Jim Brown, but if you watch the video closely you will see him both break tackles and simply run over people. And he had the moves, speed and power.
He didnt kill Nicole and Ron. What was his motive? According to the official story he went over to Nicole's condo in order to kill her while his children and their friend Rachel were there and without knowing Ronald Goldman or anyone else was there. Nicole's parents or sisters could have been at the condo. Why not? Their daughter just was at a recital. It was a family event. They could have stopped over. How did he know she would be alone to kill? He didnt. His motive couldnt have been jealousy. He was also seeing Paula Barbieri and Gretchen Stockdale around this time. He has caught Nicole with other men before during their time together. He didnt kill her or them. He didnt kill his ex wife Marguerite. He didnt kill Gretchen or Paula Barbieri. What was so special about Ron Goldman and Nicole Simpson that he needed to kill them? It doesnt make sense. The blood found at Bundy could fit on the head of a pin and was so degraded it could have belonged to one if his kids. Blood in his Bronco wasnt found until weeks after it was broken into while it was impounded. Thats a fact. The blood found on his socks had EDTA on them which indicates the blood came from a test tube. No other blood was found in ojs home or clothing including his pipes. None of ojs blood was found on ojs bloody gloves. There was caucasian hair found in the knit cap and on the gloves that obviously were not oj's. They did find hair of an african american male in the knit cap but no dna match could be made to oj. All they can say is that the hair came from an african american male. Ron was fighting off his killer for 5 to 10min. Oj didnt have an injury on his body. The only injury found by police was a cut on his left ring finger which no one saw until after oj returned back from Chicago. Kato didnt see a cut on his finger. Alan, the limo driver, didnt see a cut on his finger. People at the airport didnt see a cut. No one on the plane going to Chicago. It was only noticed on his way back. If thats the case then where was oj allegedly bleeding from? The evidence never added up.

People like Dan Marino and OJ are victims of this. As Marino fan, I've personally shown dozens of people their first ever real speed Marino highlights and they were all blown away.

I got to watch him play during the 70s and was the best the Running Back that I have ever seen. Everyone wanted to be O.J. during the 70s.
O.J. was incredible. No pass threat and everyone knew he was going to get the ball, but you couldn't stop him. All that in a league where you could still hit, and the rules weren't so slanted toward offense. Simply mind-blowing!

Best to say he was the fastest RB up to that time. In some ways close up shots of OJ dont do him justice as you dont appreciate how much faster he is than everybody else
@capicheeno746 Sanders was as fast as they came during what sprinters call the "drive phase" of the sprint (from 10 to 50 yards) But you could catch up to him after 50 yards due to his short legs

I was just watching a Barry Sanders highlight reel, and defenders were frequently catching him from behind. I never saw that with OJ in the open field. He got 2000 yards in 14 games when he was the only offense they had, and the defenders knew it.

Well, o j happened to be my first running back crush, and then Tony Dorsett N33. That was my high school number. PS, I saw the last half of the game against the jets when he went over 2000, not realizing what was happening cause I was only like 8 years old I do remember there was hardly anybody at shea stadium And it was cold with snow

performance. He literally ran thru the Pats defense twice ,90yds both tds, and no one put
a finger on him. The place was packed with one small wing of the upper deck was Bills fans.
That's all you could hear after the second one as the place was dead quiet in awe.

@@daviddavis3389 I completely agree that being ostracized by the entire world for half your life and having your ability to take care of yourself more or less stripped away from you is a punishment no human being should have to endure, although people do it to him and continue to do it because justice was never served in the case. I think America punishes people too harshly in general and this must stop. But, in terms of the facts of the case - I do think he's guilty. Every piece of evidence in the case pointed to OJ.

In 1973 OJ ran for 2,000 yards. He averaged 6 yards a carry. His quarterback was a rookie who threw for 939 yards, 44% completion percentage and 4 touchdowns. He was the Bills whole offense. Every team game planned to stop him. That's how good he was.
Further into his Buffalo career, Ferguson became an interception waiting to happen. I don't recall how many picks he threw inside the red zone, but you couldn't count on him when he dropped back to throw.
