As an animal lover and someone who is a big fan of the shows but just started the books, I didn’t expect going into this video that I’d be nodding my head when it came to eating cats and dogs but here I am. Stannis is the man. You’re so right. I’m also stunned that I’m in agreement with you about sacrificing Shireen since I was so upset about that initially. But you’re right, that’s _actual_ sacrifice and also many respected men in the Bible did the same thing but for much less noble causes. Lastly, you two are mean and make disrespectful comments that imply women are weaker or more pathetic in at least two of your videos I watched today. So naturally, as a woman, I immediately subscribed. Thanks. Sincerely, a fellow TH-camr.
Well Stannis wasn't doing his Duty while hiding on Dragonstone and ignoring Ned's orders to return back and letting Ned flounder. Ned could have been a huge ally, but Stannis lets Ned get killed.
Robert screwed over Stannis when he made him Lord of Dragonstone instead of Storms End. As Lord of Storms End, Renly was the leige lord for all the houses in the Stormlands, which is why they supported his bogus claim over Stannis's.
I see what you’re saying but the issue with this is that when King Bobby B died, the throne by rights passed to the elder, STANNIS. And if Renly wasn’t such a brash idiot, he should have declared himself, Storm’s End, and his Storm Land bannermen for his older brother. Stannis even said he would declare Renly his fucking heir until he birthed a son. He only managed to get one child in decades from his fugly wife so..Renly would for sure be the King in due time.
@MrKILLINOOBZ You’re right about bannerman, they are fickle creatures who have the tendency to flip sides to whomever offers them the most benefits and victory. But, as I said before, if Renly and the Storm Lands had sided with Stannis from the jump and sealed the alliance with the Reach and Highgarden via marriage pact with Renly with Margerary and Mace Tyrell as Hand…the Lannisters are defeated QUICKLY. They would continue to fight a two front war against The North/Riverlands whom they had never beat in battle, but with the Battle of the Blackwater becoming the sacking of Kingslanding. Joffrey is disposed, Stannis sits the Iron Throne and is convinced to broker a peace with the Young Wolf.
Renly was no more an idiot than Stannis. Renly had 20 times more soldiers than Stannis, why would he serve the mad Stannis? Robert seized the throne and Renly wanted to do it, but stupid Stannis prevented him
I hope the red witch tries to get him to sacrifice his daughter for victory, only for Stannis to see the error of his ways and executes her instead for leading him astray from the God of his ancestors.
@@AerysIIFirstofhisname Bingo He doesn't care about this whole religion mumbo jumbo he's using it to his advantage. I mean if I was stuck in Dragonstone shit out of luck while my brother's wife's incest babies are on the throne and nobody wants to help me take over and a fire obsessed lady comes over and tells me that I'm the Chosen One and that she's going to help me out I'd wanna exploit that too
Assassinating Renly was the best move by a mile. Renly was fully determined to go to battle against him, and no matter how well or poorly the battle went, it would doubtless mean thousands of dead and wounded, men who are sorely needed to fight the Lannisters. So why go through all that, when one man can die and end it right there?
@@aelux1510 And it was pretty true. His foremost mistake was putting Roose Bolton in charge of the North, the wiser move would've been to double cross him and name someone like Whoresbane Umber the new Warden of the North, someone who doesn't have a sadistic little shit constantly ruining everything
@@godemperorofmankind3.091 Because Stannis is iron. He'll break before he bends. Frankly he's also the vastly superior commander between the two of them and his is the rightful claim, and I dunno if you've noticed, but Stannis is really damn stubborn when it comes to seeing through responsibilities and upholding the law and justice. Really, what reason at all does he have to just humor Renly and his ego trip, when that's not at all the practical option for either of them
I hate that the show ruined Stannis, the rightful King and best non-POV character in the series. I hate it doubly because they did so with the perfect actor for the character in the magnificent Stephen Dillane.
If Stannis were king, he would be at every single small council meeting, Kings Landing would be spotless with low-crime, the crown's finances would be balanced, and all the schemers at court would be sent packing. The King's justice would be fair but firm, and applied equally.
@@lawv804Which is probably one of the main reasons Littlefinger betrayed Ned in the books. He tries to convince Ned to rule as Joffrey's regent until they can get rid of Stannis and put Renly on the throne instead.
Stannis is crazy, everyone hates him and he believes in the red god. If he becomes king, he will be quickly killed because the lords and peasants of Westeros do not believe in the red god and for them Stannis will be a heretic
19:14. Tywin did assassinate someone. He sent the Mountain to crush the heads of two infant children of the the Mad King, then had lunch talking about his family honor until Ned arrived and objected to it. He just sipped his wine and married off his daughter to the new King. If R+L=J, there is reason why Ned didn't say anything about John other than "yea, I had sex, this is of my blood." He knew John would not live a year with Tywin around.
I was so confused why Stannis got so much flack. When I watched the show, there were bunch of characters where I thought “yknow, this isn’t objectively bad.” With how many stories are being told at once, you really can’t have a “this good guy, this bad guy.” Mindset. When Stannis attacked King’s Landing, I kinda wanted him to win bc yeah, he has the strongest claim out of anybody alive at the moment
People who only watch the show were upset that Arya killed that Night King guy....but what did they expect? The Prince that was Promised. Nuh-uh that one was killed by a female orc pretending to be Brienne (nothing like the real Brienne from the books). With Stannis's death, the thread of prophecy was then severed. He was always Azor Ahai come again. The super magic ninja Arya had to make do. Stannis in the show was the second Baratheon to be murdered by a pig.
OMG, Renly and his "Rainbow Guard" have absolutely zero legal claim to the throne. If he wasn't a f-buddy with the heir to the Tyrell fortune, he wouldn't have sh*t, but a fear of blood. He would be too busy with balls, masquerades, and, well, balls, that he wouldn't spend one second actually governing the realm. Afterthought: Stannis has EVERY RIGHT to be pissed that Renly was given Storms End. Dragonstone? Really?? After holding the Baratheon ancestral seat, he gets.. Dragonstone. Stannis is the ONLY viable, legal, and capable heir to the throne, and his rule would be strict but fair, as Davos can attest to.
Based and true. Renly would get anyone with two brain cells pissed but when he goes against all the rules to justify his claim…. Send the dark assassin creature
Stannis has no legal right to the throne. the only true right is conquest and since stannis lost and died, he cant be the king. as Aegon and Robert can attest, only those with the biggest army can be the king. Stannis walked into a war he couldn't win, outnumbered a hundred to one, and paid for that mistake.
Renly has as much right to the throne as Stannis. But Stannis's stupid fanatics can't admit it. Stannis the usurper who wanted to take the throne from King Joffrey
@@ВелиалВинчестер Renly - younger brother Stannis - eldest living brother Show aside, in the books, Renly is dead, done, finished. Stannis is well positioned in the North, possibly using the "Lighthouse Theory" to fake their position, and lead the Boltons onto the frozen lakes they have been drilling holes in to fish for food, which are on both sides of Stannis' camp. Renly lost. Stannis is still playing.
In the books, Maester Aemon and Sam are near Stannis at Castle Black when Stannis draws his sword, which lights up the area. Maester Aemon later comments to Sam that the sword can not be the flaming sword Lightbringer because it emits no heat. The sword Stannis has is a sword that has been enchanted by Melisandre to emit light appearing in be Lightbringer, but in fact, it is not.
Most of the Stannis love would probably die if he burns his daughter in the next book. We love him because right now, he is the line, the best of all the traits, he's honorable, but capable of "playing the game". He does bad, for a greater good, and juggles the morality in his heart. But he hasn't truly crossed the line yet (killing his daughter) If he doesn't, then he proves he is the man.
Depends. I love Roose because he's smart and calculating. And I love Euron. I can still love Stannis, if he becomes an intelligent villain and doesn't burn Shireen to IMPROVE THE WEATHER and then dies immediately after.
@@OurHiltsHurt Hot take, I don’t think he will. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Shireen is at castle black; while Stannis marches on Winterfell. If Shireen is going to burn, it’ll be behind Stannis back, probably done to resurrect Jon.
@OurHiltsHurt actually, that's a good point. If George does it, it would be in such a way, we would still love him, just not loving him as Stannis the Manis here to serve the kingdom.
Stannis was wrong for trusting Renly's Baratheon traitor army in the attack on kings landing i mean he killed their leader then when Renly comes back from the grave apparently Renly's army changed as quickly they didn't have the loyalty that Stannis's men had. (i know Stannis needed the troops but still i think he shouldn't have trusted them) Edit: but this isn't really his fault now that i think about it
wrong. in feudalism, most soldiers only really listen to their personal noble who's on their land. which is why so many people fight for the Lannisters even though the Lannisters only really have fear and money, and not much else. if stannis failed to have the loyalty of most houses from the start, perhaps thats because he was genuinely unpopular and didn't deserve to have a big army.
1. I'm not sacrificing my kid (until I see the wall come down and the undead army about to destroy everyone) 2 I'm only eating dead people if I don't know them & im 1 day away from starvation
@@OurHiltsHurt gotta wait I can't have any whatifs in my mind with horrific decisions, would rather teeter on the edge before making those hard decisions
True about Stannis' determination regarding eating cat, dogs, and rats to stay alive during he siege of Storms End, but I would disagree that he would resort to eating people. There is a certain line that is crossed when you start eating people that honor would not allow, on his march from the wall towards Winterfell he executed soldiers that resorted to cannibalism.
Spoilers for Winds... Stannis burns some people when his army was in the village next to the lake for eating the dead. So i don't think his cool with cannisibalisim no matter how hard it gets. I don't think Stannis is burning his daughter. She's at the Wall with her crazy ass mom. I can see the mom doing it though.
Dude they say whatever they want for videos, it’s all just content. It would be far more interesting if they held every character to a set standard but they basically just make it up as they go seemingly.
Oberyn isn't a coward for the poison because the poison was never going to save his life, it wasn't fast-acting enough for that. The poison was to make sure he killed Gregor even if Gregor killed him in the duel, so it was there to ensure justice was done in the meta because the fight was about more than Tyrion's guilt or innocence. Win or lose justice demanded that Gregor die.
Renly is a traitor to his brothers, he knew the line of succession and knew going into rebellion would lead to the death of Stannis. The one true king!!
@@youngnat Stannis is a prideful puff fish who can't compromise to save his life, and took up with a creepy fire demon worshipper, by Martin's own word is going to burn his daughter. He'd be a just King, but a terrible one. The same with Rhaenyra Targaryen, she was a terrible politician, symapthetic in a way from the position she was put in at a young age and I can't blame her or Aegon for the Dance more than Viserys, she was indeed the rightful heir. But she'd make an awful Queen. Renly was willing to allow Stannis to live if he surrendered, as with vice versa. If it weren't for Melisandre, Renly would sit the Iron Throne and Robb Stark might still be alive.
23:35 No I will not sacrifice my baby for a whole bunch of people who half of them don’t even know who they are. A parent should put their children first even above themselves idc how much any of you will try to change my mind Stannis sacrificing Shireen will never sit well with me and I’ll always hate him for it
I'm gonna be that person and say book Stannis would never and is not going to sacrifice Shireen. He loves her way too much, even above duty. The theory is that Stannis will be dead when Milasandre sacrifices Shireen and Stannis's ultimate punishment for trusting the red woman will be not being alive to protect his heir. The show ruined his character so badly.
I was team Stannis in the way that he was the only correct option for the realm. I was 100% team Melisandre for the larger point of the story though going beyond the petty war.
@@godemperorofmankind3.091He was the legitimate successor to the throne (Ned Stark, mr honour himself, said as much) and enacted a pretty progressive meritocracy system all things considered. He ditched the corrupt and seemingly empty faith of the seven and their hypocrite septons for a faith that actually does something (prepping for the very real White Walker threat) AND he took on an ex-smuggler with solid diplomatic skills as Hand of the King... a commoner from Flea Bottom. Stannis had the best claim, but was also among the best possible ruler options available for Westeros. Bar a scenario where Margaery surives Cersei's BS and manages to rule by proxy of Tommen, I can't really think of an alternative that inspires comperable optimism.
@@GeneralGrievousCIS one of the whole points of the books is that claim and succession don't mean anything. all the smallfolk want is to be left alone. doesn't matter which family rules them. Tyrion enacted the "meritocracy" and even then its not a meritocracy because its still the nobility that chooses. stannis was himself corrupt and brutal so how did he ditch the corrupt? the only reason he's relevant at all to anything right now is because of the iron bank giving him money for no reason based on nothing. that's the very definition of corrupt. no one likes him. no one wants to follow him. he never wanted any friends and thus has none how are you defining available options? give someone, anyone, a dragon and a big army and they're an option. "claim" is just a pretty dress for a bitter truth. save it for the Maesters, not the people.
@@GeneralGrievousCIS whatever criticisms you want to offer to the Seven, its still infinitely better than the fanatical R'hllor. not sure where you got the idea R'hllor's any better. you can count on one hand the amount of honorable red priests, if any exist at all besides maybe Thoros. most of southern Westeros is Seven, if you wish to hold onto those lands, you better be Seven yourself. even Aegon knew this much when he himself wasn't Seven initially. it's called being pragmatic.
Stanis is one of the most complex characters I have seen in any novel, but he is classified as a... loving and kind person... who always wants the best for those under his umbrella because he is simply a beast that does not prey... unlike the rest of the predatory beasts who do not care about anything around them, including themselves at long terms at least.
Great video keep it up you're doing amazing things also could you make a video on Daemon Blackfyre and Blackfyre family and their role going forward in the series. 😁👍
The world would burn before I'd sacrifice my child. Absolutely the fuck not. If it requires my kid's life to continue then it doesn't deserve to go on.
the thing is Cersei could easily banish these rumors by mentioning the Starks themselves besides Arya and Jon Neds kids look Tully she could just as well accuse Robb, Sansa, Brandon and Rickon of being bastards if the child must look like the father
All Baratheon’s have black hair all of them. It’s not the same for the Starks. Some have dark hair some brown and some auburn. So that’s why there is no way Cerci winds up with 3 blonde hair babies if they were Robert’s.
Aegon and Robert weren't, yet they were kings nonetheless. no one gives a hoot about the "law". people care about whether or not you can take it, and then hold it, with a big army or dragons. by the only law that actually matters, Stannis is no true king. he's no true anything.
Stannis wasn't thinking about stopping the White Walkers when he sacrificed Shireen. He turned that option down flat until Ramsey attacked their camp in the middle of the night and he was desperate. I'm glad I don't know you guys if you think sacrificing loved ones is justifiable based on superstition. I agree the show paints him in far worse light than the books, but that act is in the show, and it fails spectacularly. You guys give no respect to fighting on dragon back, but it's perfectly acceptable to have a witch kill people because Tywin would? Tywin dies on the shitter because he's nothing but a scheming pussy with a shit ton of gold.
Ned died for the truth stannis is the true 👑 king. Varys died for the truth jon is the true 👑 king. Neds letter 📜 torn or ripped apart. Varys letter 📜 burned to ashes Neds body torn to pieces Varys body burned to ashes.
how is stannis the true anything? how is jon the true anything? the show and books both make clear whoever the "rightful king" is is basically whoever has the biggest army/dragons at the time
In the books, they make it clear the only reason no one supports Stannis is because he's a just man who refuses to play bullsh*t politics. People only support Renly because he's superficially charming and he promises political rewards to the people who back his claim. Dumb and Dumber missed this plot point and tried to make it look like people support Renly for purely moral reasons. Stannis is the Mannis and nothing can change that.
Frankly, The religious aspect of the Renly supporters is not talked about enough. For the most part, the common folk of Westeros will stand up and fight for their current lord, giving Renly control of the common folk and warriors within the Stormlands, and Stannis the support of his own forces. However, we see from the introduction is Stannis that even his own men are uneasy with his faith in the red woman and the Lord of Light, which would only be further amplified outside of his own borders. I am not 100% certain what Renly believes or what he portrays, but I believe he believes in either the Old Gods of the New Gods, making him a far less polarizing character to support as opposed to Stannis.
From an analysis of GRRM’s writing, I think Stannis is meant to be the middle ground between Euron ( the twisted Azor Ahai) and Jon/Dany ( the benevolent Azor Ahai figures). He makes tough calls and is loyal, but he is willing to go too far for prophecy. GRRM’s take on prophecy is that it’s a sword without a hilt and you can’t trust it. As an enjoyer of watching someone who grew up a dweeb like I did take over like a boss, fuck everyone else’s opinions. Stannis is a badass, the true king, and every Dany bleeding heart fan and Tywin bootlicker can deal with it.
I also think Renly is a bit of a push over, so the supporting lords know they can get what they want out of him. He’s got a worse claim, so he’d have to depend on their loyalty more than Stannis would’ve. Giving Renly’s lords a stronger position for bargaining with Renly rather than Stannis.
Might I suggested a video on the following topic: The show kind of made the Starks more rustic than they where in the books. House Stark in the novels where not as wealthy as the Lannister's but they where a lot wealthier than the show. First lets look at what they wear in the books which is nothing like there costumes in the show. Side note Lord Rickard owned Steel armour and gold spurs. When Arya is packing to go to Kings Landing she files where chest with silk and Sansa is fond of blue silk. In Kings Landing Eddard looked nothing like what he did in the show, he always wore what he called his council silk. Ned also commissions a new uniform for his guards. Long cloaks of heavy grey wool decorated with white satin borders. Their cloaks are pinned with hands of beaten silver representing there Lords office as hand of the King. When he was on the Iron Throne Ned wore a white double embosomed with a grey dire wolf. In Winterfell at the feast welcoming the King and Royal Family they all dressed grandly, including Benjen Stark. There are high born brothers in the Nights Witch from the north and south and I have never seen one dressed as well as Benjen at that feast, not even Lord Commander Mormont himself. He wears rich black velvet high black leather boots. His wide belt has a silver buckle and very heavy silver chain. When Bran is attacked by Wildlings he is attacked for what he is wearing and he is second legitimate son and he is wearing a wolfs head broch of silver and jet. Jet is a gemstone and this is not a formal event this is just outriding in the woods. Jon wears fine blacks and mole skin gloves which would not be cheap. At Winterfell harvest feast Bran is dressed quote, as befits a Prince and Robb wears a bronze crown and Catelyn describes her sons royal Kingly attire as quote magnificent. Also Theon Greyjoy dressed very well when he was living with Stark in silk and Gold and Balon fears the Starks have made him soft. I doubt Greyjoy money was funding Theon's extravagant lifestyle. When he takes Winterfell he crowns himself Prince of Winterfell and orders and orders a new crown forged with black diamonds and chunks of gold. Where did he get the gold and diamonds if not from Winterfell's plundered treasury. And before Winterfell Bran and Luwin gave the Manderley's gold and build a royal fleet and mint coins. At the Winterfell harvest feast Now lets look at Winterfell it is much bigger and much grander than in the show this is a Castle built of granite which is an opulent martial. Winterfell is a huge castle complex spanning several acres and encircled by two massive granite walls. Remember the Castle is built over natural hot springs and as the wiki explains. The water is piped through walls and chambers to heat them, making Winterfell more comfortable than other castles during the harsh northern winters. Also from the wiki Inside the walls, the complex is composed of dozens of courtyards and small open spaces. Weapons training and practice take place in those yards. The inner ward is a second, much older open space in the castle where archery practice takes place. It is located next to the broken tower. Inside Winterfell stands the inner castle, which contains the Great Keep and the Great Hall. Winterfell's towers and halls have diamond-shaped window panes.[6] Inner Castle The Great Keep is the innermost castle and stronghold of the castle complex. It was built over natural hot springs to keep it warm.[5] The Great Keep contains bedchambers for House Stark[5] as well as the solar of Lord Eddard Stark.[7] The building is connected to the armory by a covered bridge.[8] From a window on the covered bridge, one can see the entire yard.[9] Beneath the Great Keep are cellars with narrow windows.[10] The Great Hall is used for receiving guests and the place where the household dines together, including the Lord of Winterfell. It is made of grey stone[11] and has wide doors made of oak and iron,[12] which opens to the castle yard, and a rear exit leads to a dimly-lit gallery.[12] Inside it can hold eight long rows of trestle tables, four to each side of the central aisle,[12] and the hall can seat five hundred people.[13] There is a raised platform for noble guests, and the walls are covered with banners.[11] The hall contains the high seat of the old Kings in the North. The seat's cold stone has been polished by the many lords who have sat upon it, and its massive arms are decorated with the carved heads of snarling direwolves.[14][15] The small sept was built for Lady Catelyn Tully, a southron, by her husband, Lord Eddard.[16] Courtyard and Other Buildings The First Keep, a squat and round drum tower, is the oldest surviving part of the castle but is no longer in use. Around it lies a lichyard where the Kings of Winter would bury their loyal servants. The keep has gargoyles atop it.[17][6] Maester Kennet determined it was built after the Andals arrived.[18] The broken tower, also known as the Burned Tower, was once the tallest watchtower in Winterfell. Over 140 years ago a lightning strike set it afire and the top third collapsed inward, but no one rebuilt it.[19][20] It stands behind the old inner ward. Crows nest atop the broken tower.[19] The ancient godswood of Winterfell has stood untouched for ten thousand years, with three acres of old packed earth and close-together trees creating a dense canopy, which the castle was built around. At the center of the grove stands an ancient weirwood with a face carved into it, standing over a pool of black water.[16] Across the godswood from the heart tree, beneath the windows of the Guest House, an underground hot spring feeds three small pools, with a moss-covered wall looming above them. The godswood is enclosed by walls, and is accessed by a main iron gate, or smaller wooden ones. The Glass Gardens[21] is a greenhouse heated by the hot springs, which turn it into a place of moist warmth.[5] It is used to grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers.[9][22] The garden has green and yellow glass panes[10] locked in frames.[8] The crypt of Winterfell, located near the First Keep, is where members of House Stark are buried. The underground crypts are long and narrow, with pillars moving two by two along its length. Between pillars stand the sepulchers of the Starks of Winterfell, the likenesses of the dead seated on thrones, with iron swords set before them to keep the restless spirits from wandering, and snarling direwolves at their feet. The crypts are deep under the earth, cavernous and bigger than the complex above ground. They are accessed by a twisting stone stair and a huge ironwood door that lies at a slant to the floor. The stair continues below to older levels where the most ancient Kings in the North are entombed.[23][17][10] The Bell Tower is connected to the rookery by a bridge. The bridge is covered and runs from the fourth floor of the tower to the second floor of the rookery.[6][8] The maester's turret is below the rookery.[24] The Library Tower houses the library at Winterfell. A stonework staircase winds about its exterior.[8] The Guards Hall is in line with the Bell Tower, and further back, the First Keep.[6] Winterfell has undercrofts and cellars.[25] The castle also has dungeons,[25] including tower cells.[26] Walls Winterfell is a huge castle complex spanning several acres, defended by two massive walls of grey granite with a wide moat between them.[4] The outer wall is eighty feet high, while the inner is one hundred feet high.[4] There are guard turrets on the outer wall and more than thirty watch turrets on the crenelated inner walls. The great main gates[7] have a gatehouse made of two huge crenelated bulwarks which flank the arched gate[8] and a drawbridge that opens into the market square of the winter town.[27][28] There is a narrow tunnel inside of the inner wall stretching halfway around the castle, allowing travel from the south gate all the way to the north gate without interruption.[19] The Hunter's Gate is close to the kennels and the kitchens. It opens directly onto open fields and the wolfswood, so people can come and go without having to cross through the winter town. It is favored by hunting parties.[4] The East Gate[10] or east gate[29] leads to the kingsroad.[10] The Kingsroad Gate[7] may be another name for the same gate. The Battlements Gate is a small arched postern in the inner wall. It crosses the moat between the walls but does not have a passageway through the outer wall.[7]# When Jon Snow becomes Lord Commander of the Nights Watch he considers building a glass building but thinks it will be costly and for such fine glass he would need to look Myr and by the freedom of a few glass makers. We know Sansa loves lemon cakes and lemon trees do not grow naturally in the north importing lemon seeds to Winterfell from the reach or Doren would not be cheap. My guess would be the seeds came form Doren as one need only sail up the narrow sea than the up the White Knife. Finally Maester Luwin has his own turret and mentions having servents of his own. The Starks top servants have servants Not as wealthy as the Lannister but it clear Ned and Robb after him where unlike in the show 2 of the wealthiest man in the world.
The reason why I love Stannis is simply because he's goated at warfare, goated governor, has mercy (People often forget that he's more than willing to forgive as long as you BEND the knee), Ned who is honourable to death supports him which really shows you how good Stannis is, he has based takes on religion, he cares about the Seven Kingdoms and most upmost of all... He IS the rightful King of the Seven Kingdoms. Also, Davos is pretty based, I agree with that. He's based in every media he's in. Which automatically equals Stannis being based.
I have no issues that Stannis killed Renly, because it was only ever going to end one way, with one of them dead. Renly had no qualms about attacking and destroying his brother with his larger army, and he KNEW Stannis had the right. Stannis had told him to back down several times and even gave him a more than fair offer. Renly didn't take it because he was content with simply destroying Stannis and having that power. His hand was pretty much forced, he had really no other options there. It made Brienne's "justice" for Renly really cringeworthy to me. Just thinking about how much of a greedy prick that Renly was about the whole thing. He really set up his own demise due to his ego and lust for power. Not to mention after Stannis held out in storm's end and saving Renly's life by extension, Renly just doesn't seem to care it all. And Renly making fun of Shireen's greyscale? He really did come off as a prick. Stannis gave him MANY chances more than most people in westeros probably would have. The fact Brienne kills him in the series is just such horse shit.
I don't read Stannis as being on the spectrum at all, he is way to flexibel, to good a leader and at reading people. Also he doesn't show any signs aside from people saying they don't like him.
@@godemperorofmankind3.091 He would have had the North and the Riverlands cause Ned supported him. Renly got the rest of the Baratheon banners not cause they liked him more but cause he was quicker and Stannis refused to act before the King was dead as it should be. And the biggest part of Renlys army were the Tyrels and he got them cause he had a realationship with Loras not because he is such a nice guy. Overall take a look at the series and tell me when the best leader had the biggest/best army.
Stannis wasn't wrong to kill Renly. He was wrong to use blood magic to kill Renly and he was wrong to murder his innocent daughter. The end doesn't justify the means and a god worth worshiping would want nothing to do with such an evil act.
Stannis also parallels the best brother in history Agamemnon, Dorne is the only place that needs and irs audit fr how they afford all that silk and jewelry, plus they based on the moorish folk
There is no way in hell I would sacrifice my daughter. Once again love your coverage of GOT, you guys do a great job but good lord. Killing your pre teen daughter by burning her at the stake is totally fucked up and there is no way in hell I’m praising this man after what he did to Shrene. That was sick and absolutely awful. I would never back Stannis after watching him burn his daughter at the stake. Honestly he killed her and got nothing in return. He fucking died! Do you guys have kids? Having a kid changes your life and it’s your duty to protect and guide them. Not burn them at the stake to possibly save the world. Fuck Stannis. Still love your vid’s! Just disagree on this one. They killed her and saved no one just remember that.
He didn't know it wouldn't save anybody though... neither did Mel for that matter. That's the point. All he had to go on was the multiple times Mel had been right before, and the sacrifices he'd seen work (ie. the leeches). This sacrifice did technically work also, it should be noted. Mel prayed for R'hllor to clear the storm so the army could safely march onward, and clear the storm promptly did. She had just wrongly assumed that Stannis was Azor Ahai and thus destined to win the battle that followed (not realizing her error until the mass defections). Presumably, actually, the sacrifice did save a fair number of people in the form of the hundreds of soldiers and mercenaries who defected after the storm cleared. Had the storm not cleared, everyone there bar Mel (cold immune and nigh-immortal) was liable to freeze to death or starve... including Shireen. Also, saving the world is probably the single instance where sacrificing your own child is justifiable. If you are given a choice between saving one kid (yes, even your own), or saving all of humanity from an ice zombie apocalypse, and you pick the former, you're just insanely selfish. Understandably selfish, absolutely, but selfish nonetheless. If there is a history to remember you it would remember you as a villain. It's like Abby Griffin on the 100 (if you've ever seen that show). Half the audience hates her, and it was because she routinely picks "save my daughter" over "greater good of humanity."
I wouldn't burn my child. The obcious answer why is that I wouldn't know if this God is real and whether or not that would actually help at all. "I would believe it, wow all three kings died after three leeches were tossed in the fire. Three kings? Who would've guessed?" Me. I would have guessed that kings would die in a succession war. That's what happens in succession wars when many kings fight each other. Mel didn't give a time frame on her prophecy, very soon could've meant throughout years and she just got lucky. It's not actually a crazy claim, she was probably just assuming because she saw something that hinted towards this. As for the other miracles, how do we know that it's even a god doing this and not just some powerful manipulator in the background? If we had never seen Bloodraven and he told Bran he was actually a tree god, I bet you 99% of the fan base would just believe him cuz he said so to Bran and would think we got a fire god, ice god and tree god or sth. I think it's all just nonsense tbh. I don't think any of these gods are real whatsoever. GRR Martin is an atheist and hasn't written a story with real deities since HIGH SCHOOL. In every single other story he's got, it's ALWAYS psychic manipulator pretending to be a God and people believe him. Why should Rhllor be any different?
There is no precedent anymore. Robert ended that when he took the throne. You can’t dismiss precedence when it suits you and then enforce it later (accepting your brother as king over the dynasty in place and then saying you’re next in line because of the new dynasty).
I've not read the books, but from my understanding of Stannis, I'm not a huge fan. Stannis fleeing Kings Landing and going radio silent is a huge Red Flag against him for kingship. Why didn't he stay or at least send a messenger to Eddard Stark to warn him about what he and Jon Arryn(possibly)learned? He fled and waited with The Royal Fleet for Robert and Eddard to die so he can claim The Throne. He had his brother killed for The Throne, either by his own command or in playing ignoranant, which he didn't have the backing to claim, he could have demanded a Great Council or something, etc...Stannis really doesn't have a lot of military accomplishments, just the smashing of The Iron Fleet, warships/galleys are vastly superior to longships, not to mention that it was both The Royal Fleet and the Redwyne Fleet that smashed The Iron Fleet, Stannis has(as far as i understand)no ground military accomplishments besides holding one of the top defendable castles in Westeros during a half arsed siege by The Reach. Now, Stannis has ran to The North, after he was willing to kill its King probably by shadow baby since Robb would have stomped him on the field, and act as a scavenger/carrion bird for soldiers to keep his ambition for The Throne alive. In closing, The One True King was and always will be...THE KING IN THE NORTH!!!
Has GRRM played DND? Stannis was done wrong in him not showing remorse for his brother's death. In the book he is clearly hurt for killing his little brother and remembers fond times. Stannis is a clean lawful Neutral character. Ends justify the means, but it hurts everything he loves. He was not the Paladin, he's a Warlock, lied to. "Go on do your duty" is a George line, but Stannis says this knowing he was wrong in the end. Just as he was, he deserves death, and he knows it.
To answer your question, late af, no… I wouldn’t be able to sacrifice my kid to save the world… and I know that makes me weaker than Stannis and that’s why I respect Stannis so much. He has a strength that many lack, a selflessness that boarders on supernatural. There’s people who will say “oh yeah I’d sacrifice my kid” and others who will be goofy and quote Omni-man like “What’s 18 more years? I can always start over, have another son” but I’m looking at it honestly and I can genuinely tell you that I’d be too weak to make that call… I’d rather sacrifice myself for the fate of the world than my child.

Man, Stannis is such a good character and honestly would have been a better King then Renly. He obviously understands Geopolitics more. I really hope he has a justified end bc I doubt he'll survive the Northern clash.
@@godemperorofmankind3.091 Because Renly was more likeable and Joffrey was the actual king as far as Westeros is concerned (before Stannis leaked it). Stannis was the most just and fair ruler of them all he was just bland and boring it’s stated multiple times.
Would it not have been better for Stannis to side with Renly first? They could have eliminated the Lannisters and maybe the Starks first. After that, Stannis still could have killed Renly to become king. This might have been against Stannis' moral convictions, but it might have saved the realm from worse.

Stannis isn’t flashy but effective in a time where Westeros is in need of effective leadership, that’s why I support him even if I’d never get along with the man
Renly's claim to the throne was people wanting him on the throne, which is the best claim because if people don't want to be ruled by you then they won't no matter how "right" your claim is. But Renly going against Stannis was indeed a stupid decision because with how dutiful Stannis was he no doubt would've worked himself to an early grave within five years tops.
and then what? there's no way Renly can convince the Tyrells with some vague "oh he MIGHT die soon or something" reasoning. Tyrells want Margaery as queen NOW. right now.
The reason people didn't back stannis is because he was a hard ass. Petyr baelish hated stannis because the latter would've outlawed prostitution Varys hated him because he'd not be able to twist stannis to do as he pleased. The only thing I hate about show stannis is that they made Him a religious zealot when book stannis basically uses Mel as a means to an end . Also how could stannis burn shireen when shireen is still at castle black ? The show runners just clearly hated the mannis and it showed dude is based .

Nah people dislike him because he's basically unyielding also because he doesn't I don't know let his men away with crimes other Lords do aka sure he cut davos fingers off he did also make him his right hand man . Also killing renly who was a snake and deserved it
Walking into a gigantic war you can't win is pretty wrong. Stannis had no chance without Melisandre, and he didn't magically know Mel could take out his enemies with a shadow demon.
17:10 Edric storm is NOT Robert's first acknowledged bastard. That is Mya Stone, the donkey girl from the Eyrie. I don't remember if he's the first MALE acknowledged or just one who's mother has an important enough family.
Renly was charismatic and cared about the people. Whereas Stannis wanted to subjugate everyone. Rulers must serve their people. Renly was prepared to do that. Stannis had it backwards. Same as Cersei.
Renly had charisma and let's give him a W for that sick burn he did to Stannis when he backfired with the question "Is he a ham?" to the Red Priestess comment that Stannis was born of salt and smoke. But that's about it, he got twisted around Tyrel's fingers and sniffed too much of their stuff and decided to screw the rightful succession and that's a definite L and Stannis gave him that L like a true king would. Rest in Pi**, Bozo.
Stannis is fair enough to clean up those vermin in KL and let's not forget Stannis defeated the Ironborn at their own game. He is that smart & willing to uplift those who are deserving (Mel, Davos, Jon.)
Also, I agree about Renly. Especially since Stannis has no sons, making Renly his heir and the next king. Renly is stupid.

Robert screwed over Stannis when he made him Lord of Dragonstone instead of Storms End. As Lord of Storms End, Renly was the leige lord for all the houses in the Stormlands, which is why they supported his bogus claim over Stannis's.
True but even when Renly died, some really dragged their feet to come over to the Mannis.
Robert seized the throne and Renly wanted to do it, but stupid Stannis prevented him

most of southern Westeros is Seven, if you wish to hold onto those lands, you better be Seven yourself. even Aegon knew this much when he himself wasn't Seven initially. it's called being pragmatic.
We want to talk about the Blackfyres soon. With the new Hedge Knight series I hope we see them.
The world would burn before I'd sacrifice my child. Absolutely the fuck not. If it requires my kid's life to continue then it doesn't deserve to go on.
Truly. He was Lord of the Seven Kingdoms. Protector of the Realm. He didn't just believe it. Its wasn't some title to him. He embodied it. Lived it.
the thing is Cersei could easily banish these rumors by mentioning the Starks themselves besides Arya and Jon Neds kids look Tully she could just as well accuse Robb, Sansa, Brandon and Rickon of being bastards if the child must look like the father
All Baratheon’s have black hair all of them. It’s not the same for the Starks. Some have dark hair some brown and some auburn. So that’s why there is no way Cerci winds up with 3 blonde hair babies if they were Robert’s.
Stannis is the true king, by every law of Westeros 😎
Aegon and Robert weren't, yet they were kings nonetheless. no one gives a hoot about the "law". people care about whether or not you can take it, and then hold it, with a big army or dragons.
by the only law that actually matters, Stannis is no true king. he's no true anything.
I was under the impression that Mya Stone was Robert’s first recognized bastard?
Oh yeah I think she is first but I don’t think she was raised by higher lords like Edric was.
@@OurHiltsHurt
Mya's the eldest, but Edric is the only one with a noble-born mother....
Tywin died on the shitter because he was blind to the true nature of his own children, and for no other reason.

how is stannis the true anything? how is jon the true anything? the show and books both make clear whoever the "rightful king" is is basically whoever has the biggest army/dragons at the time
In the books, they make it clear the only reason no one supports Stannis is because he's a just man who refuses to play bullsh*t politics. People only support Renly because he's superficially charming and he promises political rewards to the people who back his claim. Dumb and Dumber missed this plot point and tried to make it look like people support Renly for purely moral reasons. Stannis is the Mannis and nothing can change that.
We don't deserve him
Frankly, The religious aspect of the Renly supporters is not talked about enough.

At the Winterfell harvest feast
Now lets look at Winterfell it is much bigger and much grander than in the show this is a Castle built of granite which is an opulent martial.
Also from the wiki
Inside the walls, the complex is composed of dozens of courtyards and small open spaces. Weapons training and practice take place in those yards. The inner ward is a second, much older open space in the castle where archery practice takes place. It is located next to the broken tower. Inside Winterfell stands the inner castle, which contains the Great Keep and the Great Hall. Winterfell's towers and halls have diamond-shaped window panes.[6]
Inner Castle
The Great Keep is the innermost castle and stronghold of the castle complex. It was built over natural hot springs to keep it warm.[5] The Great Keep contains bedchambers for House Stark[5] as well as the solar of Lord Eddard Stark.[7] The building is connected to the armory by a covered bridge.[8] From a window on the covered bridge, one can see the entire yard.[9] Beneath the Great Keep are cellars with narrow windows.[10]
The Great Hall is used for receiving guests and the place where the household dines together, including the Lord of Winterfell. The seat's cold stone has been polished by the many lords who have sat upon it, and its massive arms are decorated with the carved heads of snarling direwolves.[14][15]
The small sept was built for Lady Catelyn Tully, a southron, by her husband, Lord Eddard.[16]
Courtyard and Other Buildings
The First Keep, a squat and round drum tower, is the oldest surviving part of the castle but is no longer in use. Around it lies a lichyard where the Kings of Winter would bury their loyal servants. The keep has gargoyles atop it.[17][6] Maester Kennet determined it was built after the Andals arrived.[18]
The broken tower, also known as the Burned Tower, was once the tallest watchtower in Winterfell. Over 140 years ago a lightning strike set it afire and the top third collapsed inward, but no one rebuilt it.[19][20] It stands behind the old inner ward. Crows nest atop the broken tower.[19]
The ancient godswood of Winterfell has stood untouched for ten thousand years, with three acres of old packed earth and close-together trees creating a dense canopy, which the castle was built around.
The Glass Gardens[21] is a greenhouse heated by the hot springs, which turn it into a place of moist warmth.[5] It is used to grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers.[9][22] The garden has green and yellow glass panes[10] locked in frames.[8]
The crypt of Winterfell, located near the First Keep, is where members of House Stark are buried. The stair continues below to older levels where the most ancient Kings in the North are entombed.[23][17][10]
The Bell Tower is connected to the rookery by a bridge. The bridge is covered and runs from the fourth floor of the tower to the second floor of the rookery.[6][8]
The maester's turret is below the rookery.[24]
The Library Tower houses the library at Winterfell. A stonework staircase winds about its exterior.[8]
The Guards Hall is in line with the Bell Tower, and further back, the First Keep.[6]
Winterfell has undercrofts and cellars.[25] The castle also has dungeons,[25] including tower cells.[26]
Walls
Winterfell is a huge castle complex spanning several acres, defended by two massive walls of grey granite with a wide moat between them.[4] The outer wall is eighty feet high, while the inner is one hundred feet high.[4] There are guard turrets on the outer wall and more than thirty watch turrets on the crenelated inner walls.
The great main gates[7] have a gatehouse made of two huge crenelated bulwarks which flank the arched gate[8] and a drawbridge that opens into the market square of the winter town.[27][28]
There is a narrow tunnel inside of the inner wall stretching halfway around the castle, allowing travel from the south gate all the way to the north gate without interruption.[19]
The Hunter's Gate is close to the kennels and the kitchens. It opens directly onto open fields and the wolfswood, so people can come and go without having to cross through the winter town. It is favored by hunting parties.[4]
The East Gate[10] or east gate[29] leads to the kingsroad.[10] The Kingsroad Gate[7] may be another name for the same gate.
The Battlements Gate is a small arched postern in the inner wall. It crosses the moat between the walls but does not have a passageway through the outer wall.[7]#
When Jon Snow becomes Lord Commander of the Nights Watch he considers building a glass building but thinks it will be costly and for such fine glass he would need to look Myr and by the freedom of a few glass makers.
The Starks top servants have servants
Not as wealthy as the Lannister but it clear Ned and Robb after him where unlike in the show 2 of the wealthiest man in the world.
Also he doesn't show any signs aside from people saying they don't like him.
so good a leader that he had the smallest army in the war and no one likes him
@@godemperorofmankind3.091 He would have had the North and the Riverlands cause Ned supported him.

THE MANNIS
Watching this half way through my 4th watch of got after hotd blue ballsed me… you guys completely changed my perspective on Stannis. Man is a goat
I wouldn't burn my child. The obcious answer why is that I wouldn't know if this God is real and whether or not that would actually help at all.
"I would believe it, wow all three kings died after three leeches were tossed in the fire. Three kings? Who would've guessed?"
Me.
Stannis leading the charge and says: come with me and take this city.
His soldiers: YEEEAAAAHHH
These guys get it.
I never realized how much Stannis is like the mustache man. Unfathomably based.

I really hope he has a justified end bc I doubt he'll survive the Northern clash.
how does Stannis understand geopolitics when he had the smallest army of the entire war? no one supported him. no one.
@@godemperorofmankind3.091 Because Renly was more likeable and Joffrey was the actual king as far as Westeros is concerned (before Stannis leaked it). Stannis was the most just and fair ruler of them all he was just bland and boring it’s stated multiple times.
@@smallbudoo if he was just and fair, why didnt more people know that and support him?

Petyr baelish hated stannis because the latter would've outlawed prostitution
Varys hated him because he'd not be able to twist stannis to do as he pleased.
The only thing I hate about show stannis is that they made Him a religious zealot when book stannis basically uses Mel as a means to an end .
Also how could stannis burn shireen when shireen is still at castle black ? The show runners just clearly hated the mannis and it showed dude is based .
For real. Dan and Dave didn’t understand him and made him more of a villain than the true hero he is
no you just fanboy over stannis so you make it seem likes smart and a good leader when he's clearly not.
its not just that the schemers didnt like stannis. NO ONE liked stannis. he had no allies, no friends and the smallest army
Nah people dislike him because he's basically unyielding also because he doesn't I don't know let his men away with crimes other Lords do aka sure he cut davos fingers off he did also make him his right hand man .
