I laughed a little when you mentioned Crocs. I was an Operating Room Nurse for 31 years. We wore Crocs in the O.R. strictly for hygienic reasons. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing these in any other environment.
My dad worked as an operating room nurse in Germany for pretty much his entire career and he never had crocs. They were specific operating shoes that were supposedly comfortable after standing for 12h...
@@gentlemansgazette At the level one trauma center where I worked for many years in Pittsburgh, I was required to wear Crocs in the Operating Room. Driving mocs are actually intended to prevent wear on your main shoes which occurs from car pedals as well as rubbing the back of the shoe on the cabin floor.
until i started watching GG i never realized how much childish and bad i make myself look in flip flops. with flip flops you look like "nothing and nobody". simple 5$ canvas shoes look infinitely more stylish on the beach and pool than flip flops
As a rather preppy guy who loves the summer months, I adored this video! I have a pair of woven leather slipper-style shoes coming from Ace Marks (as well as some Gucci-esque loafers) that I can't wait to pair with white chinos. I'm a big men's shoe fan, and I believe they are what women notice most about a man's outfit.
Kyle has come along way in this channel. He is now more confident and comfortable in this sort of environment and what a joy it is to see him! Informative video as always for somrone like myself who lives in a tropical country
This is superb, from where I come from most people wear cheap sneakers and there is no semi-formal shoes, such as loafers, thus we don’t have many option in terms of knowing about this, so, thanks, very interesting and informative video.
I first wore boat shoes in 1980 among the surfing culture on the west coast. Sperry had made the first ones in 1935. People like the Hobie scene used them on their boats which I was part of. These loafers and boat shoes are inspired by the American Indian moccasin. The hard bottoms I believe came from Europe made it into American sailing culture. You can watch old videos of the Kennedy family on their boats wearing them, which probably really helped Sperry. . Flip flops are stylish around swimming pools, the gym some water sports, since they are easily removed and are usually rubber to withstand water. It's more or less a lounging footwear. Not to nitpick, you did a fine job here and I learned a lot, like I always do with your advice.
I still remember how in the 90's boat shoes became a fashion trend among teenagers and young people. They all used them and the more striking the color the better, I never liked it for that reason, I was always more serious in my colors; I think I should give them a second chance, but not pink ones!
The problem that I have is that every time I am out somewhere in the summer, I end up either going on some hike or doing yard work, therefore I always end up wearing my work shoes most places that I go because none of the shoes in this list are durable enough to handle hiking for miles or using a shovel.
Very informative video. I was surprised not to see a mention of fisherman sandals, I love mine. I only wear flip flops at the pool. I don't mind boat shoes, but they get a lot of hate for being part of the "you can't arrest me, my dad's a lawyer" official uniform along with polos and pastel shorts.
When I was a younger kid in the 80s, I lived in Florida and always had a pair of boat shoes. But when I moved to the desert southwest, the boat shoes seemed somewhat out of place to me. So, I’ve mostly worn canvas sneakers or loafers during the summer months
It's rare I disagree with GG but those leather sandals are absolutely classic and stylish. They are what my father would have worn on the beach or with shorts in the 1950s or 60s. I really can't understand how there can be the slightest argument that they are classic and very Gentleman's Gazette!!
It seems like a lot of people are railing against boat shoes. I think that the colorful ones look fine with shorts. I have a gray pair with sporty blue trim and a tan pair. Both are fine with shorts, although the tan pair are boring. The tan pair are also old, so I'm replacing them with some white minimalist leather sneakers. I'll wear the sneakers or loafers with chinos or jeans, when I want to wear pants in casual, warm-weather settings. But everyone should wear what they want to wear (within reason, of course). And we generally shouldn't get bent out of shape over what other people choose to wear.
I will alternate between my boat shoes and my penny loafers many days throughout the week. Been wearing it for 15 years and I still Rock with them even till now. Super comfortable and very versatile if you know how to style it correctly.
Gentleman's Gazette How would you compare traditional or classic white bucks with the brick colored rubber sole and the suede uppers to the leather uppers with the leather soles that you demoed in this video?
I've been trying to expand my summer shoe collection - currently I have some spectators, some blue boat shoes, low-top Converses, some slip-on canvas shoes, and I just got a pair of fisherman's sandals. Some espadrilles are next!
Thanks just in time, I was just thinking about what to wear in the summer cause I'm tired of just wearing running shoes and flip flops. I do enjoy a nice quality pair of flip flops, so those are sticking around. Lol
Late answer but the ones that have rubber inside them, I was gifted one pair of woolen socks with rubber inside around my heel for free to my pair of shoes and they are game changing
Some years back I was in Florida and the dinner parties after the beach and boating day and the boat shoes were every where. Snappy dressers had them and i bought another pair .
Your video reminded me of the Huaraches shoes I've seen in an other video by Raphael. I found a pair on Etsy and bought it. They look nice and I'm looking forward to try them. Next summer shoes to buy are boat shoes. Nice video!
Very nice video! Can you make a video about late 19th century suits, about their typical styles and accessoirs and also, how to implement such a style into a modern outfit without an appearance completely out of time.
As a med student I only accept wearing crocs in hospital while on shift, but my classmates wear them as change shoes for classes since year one. And majority of them dresses in smart style. So they are academics on top and kindergartners on bottom.
There's not that many brands available around here, but oddly enough, I've actually had a better experience with cheap chinese store no-show socks than with any others, they even come with silicone strips to prevent the sock from slipping out.
Sandals can definitely be stylish. They were good enough for Rome to carve out a fine empire and they should be good enough for any gent to do the same.
Big boat shoe fan here. My only frustration in summer is that boat shoes are very hot due to the leather. Sperry USED TO BE good. Their quality since made abroad has plummeted. I think classic Stan Smiths are a timeless look. Actually they have gone down in quality too. Some better ones can be found for a premium.
I am not a fan of boat shoes at all. But some of these other options are great. I have an issue finding loafers that arent as clunky. I prefer a more sleek, Italian style to my shoes. More like magnanni or Ferragamo. Less like Allen edmonds. I'll have to keep looking around. Right now the only pair of loafers I have is a black magnanni loafer that I received as a gift. They work really well with dark suits but don't work very well in casual situations in my opinion. I've also been skeptical of suede in the summer. I always thought suede was a winter material unless it came in lighter colors.
It concerns me with "no show socks" in stores like Wal-Mart where the image on the outside look just like low cut socks. It makes it difficult to want to purchase if they are just like the cartoon-image on the bag, matching the low cuts
