It’s so reassuring to be on this PhD journey with you! I’m writing my dissertation all summer with a goal of a fall quarter defense. I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want my writing days to look like so I can feel whole & balanced and not just measure myself on how much I’ve written. The piece about external validation is so real but something we have to resist internalizing.

Dana!!! I am sooo happy we are in this together too! I totally can relate. It is hard for me to not measure the value of my day by how much I write... but I do think I am slowly getting some type of rythym! I am so happy you commented, I really appreciate your thoughtful responses and the honest way you reflect on your experiences! Thank you for sharing this space with me and making me feel less alone

whewww we are on the same page! I literally wrote down on my 'business' to-do list to learn how to create better sleeping habits (as I type this at 2am). It's as though I can visualize the importance of it, but really feel the time constraints as a stay at home mama of 2. That exercise of recontextualizing it (what would happen if I don't do 'a' right now) is what I need to actually apply. Everything feels so dire when you're determined and want to achieve something with your whole being! I am so glad that you were able to recognize and set boundaries for yourself. You've already achieved greatness, cannot wait to see where you're at 5, 10, 15 years from now!

I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! this comment speaks to me! it really is wild how we trick ourselves into an urgency mind set... when the creator/universe/God has given us sooo much time to exist and be still. Thank you for being so encouraging! We both are doing such inspiring and good work! But WE HAVE TO EXIST for the work to continue. lol which means we have to rest hahah thats the thing I have to keep reminding myself lol

Great video! After finishing my first year of my MFA program, I know rest and eating while stressed are things I have to work on. Sometimes it did feel like I was still in the application process, trying to prove why I deserve to be there. But I have great faculty at my school, a bomb ass therapist and my supportive wife. Next semester will be better. Good luck with writing your dissertation, and resting!

Thank you so much! And I LOVED hearing about your experience! Having a great partner and therapist! WHEW! It can be life changing!
Side note, I have a friend who has her MFA and is has a youtube channel about living life as a Artist and Entrepeneur! She might be interesting to your since you are nearing the end of your program! Her channel is www.youtube.com/@danitriesating

Welcome back!!! I understand how hellish it is to write a dissertation. As a Master's student, I see and hear how hecktic it is to write a thesis, which is much smaller. However, it is that frantic or energy-sucking moment that makes a person stop from what they are doing and give themselves a break. Given the fact that I am starting my second and last year in my MA program, people look at me and warn me that, "this will be me, soon!" This makes me feel anxious and panic-ridden, at the same time :/

Thank you for the warm welcome Louie!
If I am honest, writing can be very stressful AND/OR it can be really affirming. I enjoy writing a lot. Its the thing that makes me feel like I am "being an academic" lol (whatever that means) but with that said, you can create the experience that works best for you. Of course it is trial and error, but just try to remember it doesn't have to be so bad at all. It really its a day by day process. If I didn't hurt myself and if I didn't lose my uncle, I think I would have had a very positive writing experience for my PhD... just you know sometimes things happen. But I believe in you! You can enjoy your second and last year of your MA! You can create the experience you deserve and I am always here if you have questions or want to vent!
I really hope its positive for you!

Brisa, I am so thankful for you. You got me through my master's in healthcare delivery at ASU (Just graduated👩🏽‍🎓). When I felt tired and overwhelmed it meant the world to have your videos for support every week. Now I am getting ready to go to med school👩🏽‍⚕in August (10x the challenge). I am scared but with the tools I got from you I know I can do it. Again, thank you so much for what you do for all of us viewers/subscribers (and especially first generation college students🥹).

You are going to be amazing in med school! Thank you for your encouragement! you are an inspiration to our global cohort and I am so happy to have e-met you in these comments!
If you are looking for youtubers focused on med school. I went to high school with some friends that have a channel. They don't post much now (they are in residency) but they do have a lot of videos about the process that may be helpful.
They are called the CHOCOLATE DOCS on youtube! Hopefully you will enjoy their med school content!! Good luck! And remember I am always here!

My quals are project-based, so finishing data collection this week 😵‍💫 One of them involves a paper and a presentation to our community, and they just announced the paper and presentation dates.
Then next week, I'm presenting at a research conference in Canada. Gotta finish those presentation slides at some point... I'm hoping to rest after I get back. For me, rest is really that, sleep! 😂 I have to rest my eyes and my conscious mind

I’m contemplating a phd but not for a few years at least 😅. I just finished my masters in 2021 and I definitely making sure I’m not just girl bossing too much or if I really want/need the phd for my career. Plus a few more years of practical work experience would help me decided between a few different focuses I’m interested in. Your videos are so helpful! And yes, prioritizing rest, and all it’s different forms is definitely something I know so many of my peers need. It’s a good reminder, thank you!
