      wrt the 7:19 comment about Uber, this may have not been the case, but the way Linus phrased it makes him sound like a major dick. If someone asked me "You don't have Uber in your city? How do I get around?", I would recommend local taxi apps or phone numbers. But Linus sounded like "You're stupid, figure it out yourself".

    • @KuroKazeZX
      @KuroKazeZX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@martir.7653 its true that it can go both ways, but the mom should have known about the existence of "buses" / local taxis, maybe even for local trains / subway if they have such a thing over there. essentially, they should have researched about the place they were going to, and mom should be old enough at least, to know how to get around.
      i think this is more of a case of the mom just thinking "everything is being taken care of / paid for by this linux distro or mason husband, so why do i have to know a single thing or take care of anything"
      basically, i think it's a case of linus wanting to do the least possible in hosting them, ofc he would for the expo (that sounded like the agreement), but not before and after, and these folks expecting "oh he is paying for the flight and everything, why not just push everything on them, why do i have to use my brain? i expect a car, be it an uber or someone you arrange, you take care of all my needs, i wouldn't look into anything myself"
      that's why i said framing the question of how do i get around is the important part here, which i suppose is born from the mindset both parties (likely) had.

    So the whole thing of needing valid domain information is 100% accurate. I got a domain DNS nulled and essentially seized back by the domain provider because they didn't have valid contact information. I think I went through their legal channel and requested what they had for contact information so I could reach someone via that method and they said to use the public record. When I responded back and said that the mailing address went no where and the email address was no longer active as the authoritative DNS was down and it all pointed back to the same domain they tried to contact and the owner had like 7 days to respond. After 7 days it got nulled.

    I would think the entire point of owning a domain you don't plan to use is the hold it until someone comes offering you a pile of cash for it. This situation is literally the perfect scenario. Why not sell at that point? Lol

  • @Faith_Soprano
    @Faith_Soprano 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I think that lady probably meant something along the lines of, "I'm in a foreign land, and Uber is the only thing I know how to use with certainty". It's hard to use the bus system in a place you've never been, flagging a taxi may or may not be an option depending on where you are (e.g. that is not at all a thing where I currently am - if you want to get a taxi, you need to call a service, and a person that just came here won't know where to call), you may or may not have an international driver's license or a driver's license at all in order to rent a car, subway systems are very different everywhere, and are sometimes very, very difficult to use (e.g. London), etc. She probably defaulted to Uber because she knew how to do that, and then it turned out it's not an option, and she didn't know what else to do.
    I'm not saying it necessarily wasn't still a silly thing to say, but I also don't think it's fair to proclaim it a dumb question, especially if she'd never traveled much before and hasn't had that experience. It's also possible that she wasn't asking for advice, but just lamenting, like, "damn, how am I supposed to get there..." People often assume that any such lamentation is a call for an explanation, but sometimes it's just talking to yourself in irritation, not expecting an answer.
    I wasn't there, I don't know what really happened. I just think it's important to remember you don't always know what's inside another person's head or what their motivations are.

      I think if she said to Linus: "Hey I only know of Uber do you know of a good way to get there?" that would have been totally fine. As Linus describes is it was like she said it like it was his problem and that is a kind of immature way for a grown woman to put it.

    • @-UseSoap_
      @-UseSoap_ ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, it's plenty stupid.
      A grown woman who was definitely around long before the creation of uber would know damn well there are other options available for transport. Arranging something like a town car/limo service would absolutely be a readily available option if buses/taxis or what have you wasn't an option in her mind.
      She just sounded like some rich Californian snob, quite frankly.

    • @pablovieira6905
      @pablovieira6905 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @@ronaldojoe3011, it's a fraternal order/organization with members all around the world. Since it started as a secret order and lots of its members were prominent historical figures involved in a lot of big events, it got quite a reputation in the conspiracy theories circles.
      Sooo... people usually imagine illuminati and grand schemes. In reality, we are just a bunch of normal people discussing about life and trying to be better citizens.
      Sadly, as Linus jokes in the video, lots of people join the order only for status and connections, so there is this stereotype of rich and obnoxious members, which to be fair, is quite accurate for the most part.

    • @Trancedd
      @Trancedd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@pablovieira6905 Hey man, can I ask you some polite/genuine questions? I knew a freemason, though I'm no expert, & assure you these questions are not loaded.
      I used to work with a guy who basically sorted nuts and bolts for assembly lines who was a freemason, and also a magistrate. FTR I don't think his noxious, unsociable personality or mega ego at being a magistrate/frailty at everything else was something very befitting of becoming a magistrate, at all, but that's just my opinion. 1. Would you say he was more than likely a magistrate (on an otherwise low income job), because of his of his masonry involvement?
      The interesting part is that another guy worked there and knew a fair amount and would wind him up asking questions. The freemason guy would always outright refuse to discuss any genuine questions regarding any aspect of the freemasons, other than "you have to believe in a god, and I cant discuss further"; but would gladly and immediately deny anything pertaining to ill will/act of conspiracy, on any level.
      2. So, was he under oath of secrecy? And if so, how could he reveal... secrets... but only if it was to deny? I always found that interesting.
      You mention people joining to make connections, often being good people, and there being some who were seemingly opposites and maybe unsettling to you.
      3. So did you ever come across people or hear of things that outright disturbed you? Maybe people joining not for connections or business, but perhaps because they outright believed the things people speculated, and wanted to be a part of that. Maybe make the dark trade of the soul everybody's always been warned about; regardless of wether that was even on the table or not?
      4. I've seen a lot of hollywood celebs doing symbolism such as the hand over one eye, finger over the lips, ring around the eye, all that kind of stuff. Not typical gestures when me and my friends/family take photos. Is that because they're in, and actively signalling? Is that why they're in Hollywood? I saw the masons at the Royal Albert Hall event on yt, and at first I thought the centre stage pyramid with the all seeing eye was irony, until I realised the symbolism was simply very much on public display, and there was definitely no sarcastic irony at play.
      5. You mentioned big events with historical freemason figures being involved; how it started as a secret society, and how it is hence actively discussed in conspiracy theory circles. Does that make it conspiracy or theory? Does the "theory" part not become somewhat null?
      I notice you don't deny whether those events = conspiracy, just that they are discussed. I also notice that you said it started as a secret society, but also never continued it does not continue to be so. Is it still a secret society?
      I'm genuinely just curious, from the bits I've seen/heard. I don't want to come across like some kind of inquisitor who is leading you down a path to call you out or anything. And yeah, I rambled a lot. Apologies. Not every day you can expect to ask somebody about their life in an organisation, when its all so muddied.
      Thanks.
