    I received my blue ESV Treveris two days ago and all I can say is, "Wow!" This is my first Treveris and I have to say I'm liking the format. I like the hybrid concept as it allows me to read it in a continuous flow but when I want to know the verse references, they're there for me to see unobtrusively. I like the verse-by-verse format because it is easier to find out which verse number pertains to what verse. This format takes a little getting use to handle especially if you want to use it for study and preaching. Sometimes there are two verse numbers in one line. If there is no capitalization (which is how you're usually tipped off), it can become tricky. Punctuations help but it takes time to figure it out on your own, unless you reference other Bibles with different formats (e.g. Luke 6:28-29). Maybe it's just me because I'm new to this format. Overall, I like the size, the format, and the FULL YAPP (my first one)! I'll experiment to see if this can be a viable study/preaching option. Thanks for the review, Tim!

    I purchased the mahogany calfskin and have been really enjoying the format. I’ll be honest, the ridge on the spine kinda bugged me for a bit, but everything else is so fantastic I have nearly forgotten about it - the calfskin compared to my Quentel has a lot more character (they make a wonderful pair). And, yes!!.. we absolutely need a midsize Quentel, that would be very close to my perfect Bible.

    Hi Tim, as usual great review! This Bible has been on my list to purchase since I read about it. I want to purchase the Schuyler Treveris ESV, Marbled Mahogany Calfskin Bible. I have love the Marbled Mahogany Calfskin every since it came out in other Bible’s. I have two more Bible to purchase prior to getting the Treveris, and that is the Schuyler NASB in the personal size, and an Allan ESV Reference Bible. I received my Allan NASBR1 last week, and it is gorgeous! I don’t want to put it down it feels so awesome. There is a discounted Allan Reference Bible at a discounted price, but I’m not sure about getting it because there was a newer version that sold out and I can’t remember the differences between the two. Are you familiar with the one they have for sale? I really would like to get an ESV with references. Also, different subject but, I was wondering what your thoughts are about Study Bibles. I saw your review on the ESV, and had planned on getting that one, but one question that I have always had is should you have a Study Bible for each version of the Bible you use?
    Anyway, back to your review. I love the green, and have been drawn to that color. I may get the NASB Personal size in a green. It is really a nice green, and I normally would never think of buying a green Bible, but, I think that Schuyler has done a great job on picking out this green. Very attractive to both male and female. I loved your review, and have watched a lot of other video’s w/o leaving a review. I wanted to go back and watch them again before I commented. All of your reviews are excellent, and I never miss one. I also use your blog to gain more of an understanding on a particular topic when I have questions. It is a great blog! Ok, on to another video! ❤️ ✝️

    I like the oxford hollow ridge and hope they continue it. When Chinese companies inevitably start making counterfeits it's those details that end up being where you spot the authentic. When you look at other markets rife with counterfeiting like rolex watches the lack of these purposeful imperfections allow one to spot a fake at a glance.

  • @sluggo562
    @sluggo562 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only things I'd change: adding brown or gold ribbons in place of the green, enlarging the textblock slightly to add wider margins, placing footnotes in a tiny font within the margins, leaving ample space to take notes, and a slightly more Renaissance inspired font to match those dropped capitals. But I suppose I'm nitpicking at that point, it's so close to perfect that I ordered one.

    One of the most gorgeous looking bibles I've seen. I like my green bibles, but the colour of this one, to understate it, looks particularly fetching. Ty for picking up on and covering the spine thing, I saw that on fb and had wondered myself about it before as a couple of my Jongbloed TBS bibles have it also. I'm not normally into full yapps, but this looks especially attractive (and unique) not trained in so tight (I normally don't like them as they remind me of the bottom bit of slugs yuck lol, I mean, all of God's creatures are valuable, but I don't wanna be reminded of the slime when using my bible lol)

    I'm at a little of a loss on the paragraph format with the verse numbers on the side. How does one know where the verse begins mid-line? What if two verses begin on the same line? Maybe you can zoom in on John 11:35

    • @damessenjah5402
      @damessenjah5402 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You stopped on John 10. I see on the side two numbers on a line (14, 15) and it looks like maybe the lead off letter is a bold font. Am I seeing things correctly?

    • @timwildsmith
      @timwildsmith  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the idea is to not be too focused on where verses begin, but to have reference on the side if you are curious. Two verses that begin on the same line will have two verse numbers in the margin.

    • @JerynToney
      @JerynToney 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If that is an issue for you, I would suggest that this format is not made for a study Bible, since any bible with references and commentary would be more suitable. This format is for reading God's Word without being influenced by man, and verse numbers are man made modifications.

  • @ziklagfire3453
    @ziklagfire3453 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    From what I can see, the verse numbers don't quite line up exactly with where the verse normally begins in a standard Bible. It seems like we would have to do a little guessing. Can you confirm?
    Otherwise, it's a beautiful Bible and the poetry section is great!

    • @timwildsmith
      @timwildsmith  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the verse numbers in the margins of a paragraph layout, they appear next to the line where the verse starts. So it s a general location of the verse.

    • @ziklagfire3453
      @ziklagfire3453 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@timwildsmith that makes sense. In the sample pdf, Exodus 9:3 is one example where I don't think it would be as intuitive. It's still fairly simple, but I wouldn't be confident right away that "behold" is where the verse starts. Pretty much just instances where the sentence is divided over different verse numbers (like Romans 6-8 has a handful).

    I have the Quintel, with cross references, etc. I like the reader style of this with minimal accessory information. I would prefer the verse numbers to be at the beginning of each verse rather than over there on the side. Is there some high end Bible that is 10 point font or larger, no cross references, perhaps verse by verse? Not sure the other versions out there. Looking for a good reader that is a bit more organized than this, but not as thorough as the Quintel. This Treveras is not bad though.

    DO you know of any Full Yapp Bibles that are sold in the general market--like on Amazon? Not directly from EvB or a rebinder?

      I can't think of any off the top of my head, but there may be one or two from larger publishers who sell on Amazon.

    Not a fan of the 28gsm paper, it just feels too fragile making the Bible feel less like an every day carry.

      Interesting... I’ve never had any problems with their 28 GSM paper.

    I love the ESV but I really don’t understand the insistence on this Bible being in the “lineage/line” of the KJV. It uses a completely different underlying text. There really is nothing about the ESV to connect it to the KJV other than perhaps the fact that it retains some older words like “behold”. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      KJV >> RV/ASV >> RSV >> ESV -- the reason people say that is because the ESV was adapted form the RSV, which was a revision of the ASV, which was the American counterpart to the Revised Version, which were both updates to the KJV.

      @@timwildsmith but how could something which used completely different underlying texts be an update to the KJV? Not trying to be a pita lol! Like I said I love the ESV. Just always confused by this angle

      That's a good question... I suppose the thinking is that all "updates" take into consideration the latest Biblical scholarship as they revise and edit. ESV doesn't use the Textus Receptus, but it still comes through that same line from the KJV through the others.

    • @davegarciaofficial

      @@timwildsmith the RV used a different underlying Greek text. While it was considered an “update” to the KJV, it did not use the TR. so the break from the KJV lineage happened at that point. And hence the RSV and ESV are simply a totally different line. We truly need to reconsider the whole KJV lineage thing when referring to the ESV.
      While I personally prefer the KJV, I use the ESV because it’s the preferred translation of the Anglican Church of North America. And I do like it. :)
      So glad I found your channel your reviews are FABULOUS!!!

    Not knowing where the verses begins in the text was an immediate turn off for me.

    Too much text darkness inconsistency, for this price, is unacceptable.

      I returned a Quentel years ago because of this issue. It was inconsistent, some pages the text was light & some were dark. I was disappointed enough to return it. Is this still a problem? I love the layout in this Treveris.

    Way too thin paper. Too nice a Bible to be so thin.
