    I still cannot get my head around modern bibles not having books start on their own page. No one has offered me an explanation that makes sense as to why they choose to start new books on the same page as the end of the previous book. Cambridge is notorious for this

    I love Single Column Bibles for reading. Have you been able to find out if they are going to make a version of this for the ESV or NASB translations?

    The look of the text, the quality of the package as well as having zero references, headers, etc are phenomenal for a specialized reading Bible. My only complaint, and unfortunately it's a big one, is the verses in the margins. It forces the eyes left and causes a constant nagging, somehow much more than if they were within the text (counterintuitive but the case at least for me). It also makes finding and memorizing a verse harder. That would be a worthy sacrifice if it improved readability but being that the reading is also hindered as well, I'm hopeful Schuyler will make a new paragraph version KJV in the future. A good first attempt though.

    First page of Genesis has a verse numbering mistake. Verse 9 is coupled with verse 8 which it should not be. The second 9 is the actual start of that verse. I hope this is not a problem throughout, as the Canterbury had textual issues in the first printing. @Bible Buying Guide

    Does the Treveris have text consistency problems? I ordered a Quentel years ago only to find that the text was bold on some pages while very light on others. I was disappointed enough to return it & that was my only experience with Schuyler. I've seen this in cheaper Bibles but is this common with Bibles in this price range?

    I have a Canterbury KJB and I LOVE it.
    But I have ANXIOUSLY awaited for the Red-Letter KJB Treveris every since you did a review prior to it being put into production.
    I do have a question Sir.
    Do you know of any KJB with Early Church Father Commentary?
    I purchased a CSB Ancient Study but I only like the commentary.
    Especially John Chrysostoms commentary.
    Do you know any such King James Bible Sir?

    Red letter, yes. 10 point print, yes. The single column layout, no. The verse numbering system, no. When you put the Canterbury next to it, I immediately liked it design. And the font was definitely a little larger and the print didn't look as dark to my eye. I might have to check out some videos on the Canterbury. Thank you for all of the comparisons. Normally more than three drives me nuts, but not today!

    Thanks for the review, super helpful video. Waiting to preorder the ESV of the same model. Only thing that I dislike is that poetry/songs/quotes etc use a verse by verse layout instead of the stanza layout like in ESV single column personal reference Bible by cross way.

    I got a 2 column wide margin today from Nelson. Premier. Often duplicates Quentel in format. It has red reference #'s and headers and book name in red. I may have had a single column BEFORE. But NOW I like the Schuyler set up. Nelson Premier gives me some options other than Schuyler.
    BOTH ARE very nice. Tea and BIBLES..a positive addiction...I hope.

    Great review. The website says the thickness is 1.1” but you measured it at 1.250. I thought this was going to fall into the thin line category. Is the text block 1.1 and the cover is adding the additional thickness you measured? Thank you in advance.

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Publishers always measure the trim size, which is the text-block only. Most Bibles are available in multiple covers and they have different thicknesses and yapps. I always measure the cover size because that's the size you need to know for it to fit into a case. The trim size is 1.1".

  • @nathanhopp1136
    @nathanhopp1136 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ok Randy, this is one of the few calfskin bibles that I have seen that is edge-lined. I have the an ESV top grain bible that is edge-lined and I love it so much for the calfskin. I had an heirloom thinline in goatskin but I didn’t like the pebbly grain at all. Why don’t these publishers make more calfskin, edge-lined bibles??? Instead of these stiff calfskin? While I’m asking, do you prefer them with paste down or edge-lined and why

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd love to see more calfskin with edge-lined liners. I like both for different reasons. Edge-lined 'should' last much longer than paste-down because of the construction method. At the same time, I'm not a fan of a stiff edge-lined tab. I like the way high-quality calfskin paste-down lays open without a hump. I want every page to stay open and lay as flat as possible. I also prefer a cover to be slightly stiff (but not rigid). I find overly floppy covers difficult to deal with (slightly floppy is nice) because I like to hold the Bible in one had to read.

    • @nathanhopp1136
      @nathanhopp1136 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BibleBuyingGuide My thing with the paste downs is that it feels stiff and not very high quality. Leather imitators look too similar to calfskin paste downs in quality and texture to me. If I'm going to pay more, I want it to feel nicer. Of course that's my opinion, there are positives and negatives of both types. Definitely do not like stiff hinges. I was not a fan of the super stiff heirloom thinline hinge. It was pretty tough to lay flat when you couple the hinge with the small thinline there just wasn't much weight to combat the hinge. I love my top grain wm esv though. It stays open any where and stays flat even on the presentation pages now that I've used it for about 18 months. I'd love it if they made a single column legacy with thicker paper in the top grain. They just released a trutone version of it. That might make a good review for you Randy. Hopefully they'll think about doing a top grain version of that one. That'd be an awesome reader for me. And not too expensive too boot! Love that layout of the SCL.

    Looking forward to a KJV reader. I think it's going to be an enjoyable read... Much appreciated Randy...
    The darker font is great. I do prefer black text over red. That would be the only off spot. But not a big deal.
    Still love the Concord. But the Treveris will be my sit back/relax reader...
    Finally an excellent size, close to the Caxton...

    How would you say this fares when compared to the Canterbury in terms of a “reading Bible”

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I prefer this one because of the paragraph layout, clean text, and poetic setting. The Canterbury is an excellent choice for a reference or preaching Bible, but for me, verse-by-verse and the distractions in the text are not ideal for reading.

    I really don't see the purpose of this bible in light of how good the Canterbury is. Further, a new Canterbury is on the way--thinner with a full yapp. Also, for a reading bible, the Cambridge Turquoise or the Nelson Giant Print are better easy reading options with more useful features.

    • @davegarciaofficial

      Many folks, myself included, prefer single column text. Also, many KJV folks don’t want references, chapter headings, superscripts and all the other junk in the text. We want a clean presentation and premium binding of the word of God that we can just sit and read without all the extras. Treveris is perfect

I'd love to have one of these great KJV bibles in Goatskin with full yapp..I've had bibles recovered in Sakota Goatskin and the cost was way above the cost of this bible in goatskin and what this great bible has is what I paid for to get mine recovered bibles to look like..Hmmm !! No-brainer here..although i need the largest font size they make on these bibles.. my eyes aren't like they were 50 years ago. your smaller bibles looks like it would be compared to a Cameo Cambridge

    Hi Randy, do you prefer Treveris or Clarion, and why?

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a tough one. I'd probably choose the Clarion because I like the size. I also like that it fixes broken sentences (like 98:9). The Treveris is easier to read, though, because of the larger and darker font, and it highlights OT quotes in a poetic setting.

    I’ve noticed an issue with the print in my black goatskin Treveris. The Red letter is often set a little lower than the black letter text. Matt 16:13 the black leading into the red it clearly on the same line but Matt 17:22-23 the red text is about .020 lower than the black. Those are just some example scriptures, it is an ongoing theme through my whole Bible’s red to black letter transitions. Still love this bible. It’s my personal favorite. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.
