- Detailed instructions for tying a Pheasant Tail Euro Nymph.
Hook: Trout Legend J, size 14.
Head: Slotted tungsten bead, 3mm, black.
Thread: 8/0 or 70 Denier, fluorescent orange.
Tail: Medium Pardo Coq de Leon fibers.
Rib: Ultra Wire, small, copper.
Body: Pheasant tail fibers, dyed dark-brown.
Thorax/legs: Dubbing blend-2 parts gray-squirrel fur to 1 part rabbit dubbing.

I see you have in you possession a vintage Mouli food processor / coffee grinder. My dad designed those, seriously. He was also the sole repair guy if anything ever went wrong with them. I'll bet it says Varco Inc on the bottom, short for our family name Varkala. They were manufactured in France through a company called Moulinex but were distributed in the US by my grandfather's company Mouli MFG in Belleville NJ in the 1970s and 80s. Love to see it still in use. Thanks for the instruction as always.

In other videos you use a dubbing loop instead of split thread method...any major difference between the two? Thanks for all of your great videos.
There really isn't much of a difference between the two in terms of final result. I guess I prefer the split thread technique because for me it's quicker and offers a bit more control. But, if you are using a thread that doesn't want to split easily, the dubbing loop is definitely the way to go.
Wow fast reply! Ok that's what it seemed like from watching you do both techniques. I've been using the 6/0 UNI thread and it doesn't flatten very well (at least for me), so I'll stick to the loop for now. Thanks again!
Great fly and techniques. What head cement are you using?
Sally Hansen Hard as Nails, just the cheap version. Applied using a Wapsi dispenser bottle. They work unbelievably well and keep the cement viable forever.
another great pattern and very well presented as always. I assume one could also tie this on a std., nymph hook also.

You can Mike, but the jig hook and slotted bead make it ride hook point up and give the fly a lot of movement in the water. Every time I fish I find myself reaching more and more for Euro Style nymphs with jig hooks.

Can you make a competition rod set up video
That is a tough one. I'd really like to but I am not a competitive angler. On the other hand, I do have a comp rod that I believe is set up quite well. I probably will take a stab at such a video soon because I believe it would be quite helpful, but I know I'll take a bunch of grief for it from true competitive anglers.
