For anyone wanting to check out the video on his site - its a 53min long sales pitch (the site wont show you vid length). The main takeaway is that we focus better when theres others involved (reference groups, mirror neurons, and accountability) and theres a product hes selling based around this and other science. There is no free template
I’m one of the late diagnosed women at 53; it’s been a year now - at first like a week or so I was so happy to understand and get answers and then it was an awful realization of - wow my life is a wreck because of this - wow took some time to get past that just recently - all the best to everyone 🎉

If I am getting chores done, but not those on my list I make a list of things that I have done. Looking at what I accomplished gives me a dopamine hit.
I add them to my list just to cross them off! lol, I swear my house would never get clean if I didn’t use cleaning as a means of procrastinating administrative tasks 😂

This is a great strategy. Sometimes, I change up the environment by playing music, changing up the LED smart lightbulb or set the cleaning tasks for the morning, afternoon or AM/PM on the weekends. That way, it is less overwhelming by Sunday and Monday. Mon less things to do. I've noticed that preparing different colored teas or cold drinks will boost my dopamine in the morning. I'm always experimenting with teas, coffees, and mineral spring water. I can do lists as long as it remains visible, such as a magnetic writing board on the fridge and star magnets. Every time, my roommates or I accomplish a whole week of chores. A star goes next to the person's name. Then reset, and you get to challenge yourself and your roommates once again. Like a video game or a game show. 🎮 🕹
As a pure adhder i always come to the comments to see a summary of the video. And to show you how serious my situation is I am writing this before i even checked the comments because then I would forget it.

"break things into smaller chunks" is my own personal hell. i could tease out the simplest of plans into extravagant details that would just overwhelm me into abandoning the whole idea.
Same! And I believe that you are not exaggerating when you say your own personal hell. I absolutely get it. It is hell. I try so hard to break down my projects into manageable smaller tasks but I end up writing a notebook full of steps, and steps for each step. Then get nothing done except exhausting myself into paralysis.
This explains my "Mad Hatter" strategy working so well, slowing down? Blocked? CHANGE PLACES! Standing desk, balance board, different keyboard, sofa, work outside, go to office, coffee shop 🤘
i’ve always wanted a cute keyboard but didn’t rlly have a reason to get one but .. omg?? it would motivate me so much to just liek switch out peripherals on my pc .. why did i never think of this?! like instead of just programming on my laptop i can plug my laptop into my tv and then use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard to do it when im unmotivated?? like oh my god??? life hack right there
I came across something similar by accident for housework... 10min kitchen clean, 10min bathrooms clean, 10min washing clothes/ fold clothes or ironing, 10 min dust/ vacuum house, 10 min mop etc... if you don't find the task in 10, you must move to the next task even if by that stage you want to keep on doing it, great dopamine hits and majority gets done in an hour. Before this system I used to spin my wheels and not do any of it.
Works for me too! And can work to declutter two areas at the same time, eg 10 mins kitchen drawer and 10 mins shoes - stops you getting ‘blind’ to it! Also do that with loud music and a count down timer and bingo! 😂🎉

I'm so glad you said this! I saw in an ADHD group the "eat the frog" strategy and I actually commented, "This doesn't work for me at all, I have to a smaller task first that leads up."
What these videos almost always fail to take into consideration is that we're not all self-employed TH-camrs who can wake up at 9, go for a run, take a cold shower, and immediately get to work. Most of us have to wake up when it's still dark outside, take a shower, let the dog out, wolf down some breakfast, then get in the car for a 30-45 minute commute to our job that starts at 8am. There's not a lot of "get some sunshine and go for a morning run before plopping down in my home office to write a script for my TH-cam video" opportunities for most people.
I'm 54 and newly diagnosed. I've been stuck and swirling the drain for 15 years. I really like your videos. Thank you for making them. It's nice knowing what's wrong but change is harder than I thought, kinda like trying to turn the Titanic around before it hits the iceberg. But your videos are relatable and help. I really wish you all the best. I used to wake up, shower, and work like you describe. Will try getting back to it tomorrow morning.
WOW!!! You've just described my situation to a tee! 😱 I was 53 when I was diagnosed! I gradually watched my life go from somewhat orderly to chaotic! Really frustrating! It's different for women. My ADHD became heightened because of the hormone issues after the menopause which is what led to my diagnosis. My apartment is now ordered chaos as a result! I'm in the UK and the support we need just isn't there. Sometimes I get so angry because we're being made to feel as though it's our fault or that we don't matter because we have the disorder when we're in no way to blame! I managed to get a degree back in the early 90's before the menopause set in. But little did I know I would only have a few years before the craziness would return with a vengeance! 😭 These videos have been a breath of fresh air not to mention very enlightening!

But my distraction and confusion kicked in, and i couldn't pass the second year. I just wanted to stop time because i couldn't focus, but youtube i could watch it for ours. The drive to acomplish things just Was not overthere. I wanted to dissappear. Now when i listen to Adhders i feel they felt the same things I've passed through all my life and since they are tackling ADHD using techniques and tricks, that gives me hope for a better future at 47😅. Try to read The Better Brain by J Kaplan and J Rucklidge. Also Hardy Nutritionals have Daily Essential Nutrients, based on research from the professors mentioned earlier.
One thing I that gives me a nice dopamine hit is before and afters. I take pictures if it is a visual difference, I make charts, to-do lists, and such, if it is a data difference. I do have to be careful with charts and to-do lists as these can cause me to hyper-focus on them and not get the actual thing done :S I also had to change how I looked at success. I would idealize what the end product should look like and sometimes this alone would cripple me from starting - too difficult, too many steps. So now I just take success as making progress. I also find that if I try to do something when I am not properly motivated it's kind of a waste of time and does not get done properly. If I wait until I have that motivation, it is soooo easy!
Your videos are changing my life. I originally started watching because my step-son has ADHD and my husband and I wanted to understand how to best help him. However, the more videos I watched, the more I realized I exhibit most of the behaviors and symptoms. So, I'll be speaking with my psychiatrist next week... but to your point, I've struggled with routine and consistency and frequently space out when bored but can also have issues with over-stimulation. I've read hundreds of books on time management and productivity in the hopes of finally getting around my procrastination habits. I could never stick with any of it. All the tips and tricks in those books made sense on a logical level, but still somehow it doesn't jive with me. Finding your channel has been a blessing. I'm binging and putting this shit into practice ASAP.
I've never been officially diagnosed with ADHD, but I resonate with your video a lot. I've been struggling with motivations, or lackthereof, to a sense that I feel like I should've been in a better position in my life. Modern technology/notifications/social media have all been designed to hook users, and have affected our brain chemistry. Even though I do not have ADHD (it's not how I was before I had my first smartphone), my present-day attention problem is stemming from modern life and the tips in this video were still SO HELPFUL

My morning starts at 4-5am. Drink water, go for a walk and plan my task. Once back... coffee, music and work on whatever my mind is attached to that day. ADHD has made me a reliable clutch doer. Boring tasks are the drag... I try to do those while I do other things. Laundry, dishes, cleaning, paying bills, etc. Always at the last possible moment. Always gets done, no problem
I hear you. I actually work with focus and calm in the late afternoon. Except that's when I usually cook. Maybe I should cook in the morning and work in the afternoon. We are so tied into standard daily structures that just don't work for us.

2nd viewing, taking notes, “rewinding” when I lost focus. The dopamine connection I’ve only learned about recently. It makes sense now why if I don’t get started in the morning with what I need to do, I don’t get started. I have noticed that when I just do a few steps of something, I do come back to it more easily instead of trying to get it all done at once. Also, setting a time deadline for something like taking the much-needed walk helps. I set a goal of 20 minutes but often stay out longer. I look forward to exploring this further. I’m tired of not getting sh*t done. Thank you.
The point about perfectionism is very valid. If you can start in a small way - work, exercise, hoovering etc however small ' it is better than doing nothing.

My brain looks for interest not importance. Nice - new interesting, challenging emergency. 1. Start first thing in the morning. Only do things that increase dopamine in the morning. Cold shower, exercise, get some sun Routines are difficult to maintain. Break your routines some days so you don't get bored. 2. Break tasks into the first 3 steps. Commit to short spurts. Outcome based goals vs time based goals Do something. Not everything 3. Build momentum. Start with the easiest thing first. Quick dopamine hit. Video games always start easy. Focus on easy tasks esp after a long break eg mornings or after long breaks 5. Build streaks. A streak - number of days you do something. Eg Duolingo ADHDers struggle with consistency not motivation It's okay to have off days. Work at your own pace. Don't be too hard on yourself. compare yourself with you Don't complicate it. 5. Regularly introduce novelty Eg switch where you work, with whom or how or the time. Eg finish before x Leverage competition. Alternate tasks combine tasks. Tweak environment

I love the "do something" principle and think that was the unlock switch for me. Ironically (maybe not?), I'm watching this video because I have massive projects looming over me with deadlines that make me want to spiral, run away in the forest and never come back, or go back to bed. Even after 6 espressos. But even though I might not be able to write all 7000 words of an article (and write two additional articles, write 3 newsletters, and do 3 hours of SEO work) in one day, I can at least DO SOMETHING to move all these projects forward. Perfectionism is definitely the thing holding me back (and also the sheer quantity of work to do). I started with the simplest task (uploading a consultation on TH-cam to give the replay to my client, which is how I found the video -- waiting for the replay to upload/render). Also, as a feral Trekkie, I love that you included Sir Patrick Stewart! I have a "First Contact" film poster behind me and a Captain Picard action figure next to me on my desk. Strangely, it helps thinking these are orders from my captain, and I can't let down Picard 🤣 This video is SO dense, and I'm excited to come back to watch it fully. I'm curious because I'm addicted to working and winning, but my therapist told me this is categorically a bad thing because I'm using work and chasing productivity/wins to avoid other areas of my life. I'll sometimes forget to go outside or talk to another person for 3+ days because I'm so wrapped up with work because I feel the NEED to work to feel worthy of being alive. Where's the healthy line between taking consistent action vs falling into extended hyperfocus sessions?
I Use Semantics to Reframe & Redefine My Boring Stuff...Or I Mutitask Things. Example: When I Need Groceries & Laundry...& I Love Driving. So I Frame The 3 Pieces Together. Go For A Drive...While I'm Out & About, Throw The Laundry in At Washhouse, Run Get Groceries...Enjoy saving Money by analyzing what I'm buying and creating meals on the fly using what I get on sale then feeling really accomplushed...go get fuel and save on that through my fuel points...run back to washhouse to dry clothes while I write my blog post then take the 40 minute drive back home where I get to enjoy all my work that I accomplished in About 3-4 Hours. I Start This Process Right After My Morning Workout When Dopamine is Skyrocketed. By Noon I'm Feeling Really Good!!! Add a Little Homecare & My Day is Complete.

That’s what works best for me too, but it’s confusing to hear all the gurus talk about *stimulate bdnf by doing an intense work out right away!* but to your point, that’s my golden hour and I am most productive with my deep work 5 am sessions. The momentum part is so trueee. It also implemends with how we should read books. When I start with the most interesting page, I always will end up reading alot because it got me hooked.
@@gailremp8389 hahah! coffee can help but i find wait a little time before drinking coffee start with water + electrolytes game changer. cold shower is amazing for us, if its hard just start on cooler than you would normally and then reduce slightly every day. make it a challenge to get to the final level :)

You describe my life, my reactions, my issues, even solutions I've stumbled across. This is so valuable. I am glad for you that you discovered this while you are still so young and can use this knowledge to progress. Your advice on time-based goals and doing easiest things first are so helpful.
I have not been diagnosed medically with ADHD, but all content I see about it is mostly relatable. I have been asked by 6 people if I have the condition and I honestly think it is true my actions say it all. I think this video will be a way to start dealing with it as I seek additional help. I felt relatable when I saw your shorts, but with how aggressively how you're selling your course, and how you spent the first minute of the video just to make sure people stay and your video does well with the algorithm, I feel less sure about trusting you. But as soon as the video started, I started trusting you a bit more. Whatever you said, makes sense.

This is the 2nd of your videos that I have watched. I am retired from being a public school teacher. I was asked on several occasions to fill out a questionnaire so the counselors could determine if a student might have signs of ADHD. Everyone of them was diagnosed with ADHD. I would joke with my colleagues that if this student has ADHD, then I did too. After watching these 2 videos, I am seeing that you have been struggling with the same "boredom" as me...throughout my entire life. Thanks for creating and sharing the videos. I think that I can learn more about myself and understand why at times I am super productive, and at other times I procrastinate.
I always set out the “tools” I need ahead of time. For example, I hate making protein shakes, but if I set out the ingredients I’m “lured” into making it. Also, have you looked into fasting? Supposedly does a dopamine reset. Excellent video as always!
Yes, that's part of my strategy, also! It's easier for me to get started on tasks when I physically lay out the tools and materials ahead of time. It works MOST if not all of the time. 😊

This one of the rarest video about ADHD and productivity that are actually insightful and i learned new things from it and definitely gonna try it out. Some good strategies but this is very clickbait-ey. I'm not trying to troll here but to find out the three bonus strategies requires watching an almost 2-hour sales video. It just goes on and on, with some dubious data and endless repetition. And I never did get my notion template, apparently, it's only for those who sign up. I have ADHD. Trying to pay attention for that long used up all my dopamine.
I sat through it like an adult. The science is spot on. I don’t know what kind of expert you are that you can call it dubious. I joined, it’s changed my life for the better. You enjoy staying where you are at in your mediocrity and misplacing your anger at people who have worked really hard and are trying to help others
1. Several notepads and post-it pads about to throw ideas at (likely never look at them again, but they went into the brain). 2. Brain's always doing so many things at same time, so I let it keep itself busy - just spectate because it keeps the mind busy. 3. I love that idea of tracking momentum and acheivements. 4. Spend some time just letting the brain go for it - let it go 'fractal' with its thinking, composing, and reformulating. 5. Look at everything with naivety, as a young child would. The unfettered brain is a marvelous thing. 6. Try not to bottle up creativity (if you do that). Let it out - it makes us human. 7. Try to find stuff to laugh about (about, not at). I think understanding the adhd comes first, understanding your adhd second, and then seeing what works for you comes last (and it’s a constant refinement of things that work for you). Thanks for the video! Always looking for different implementations I can try to assist my adhd.
The tracking of progress. I track my daily writing word counts and did before I even realized I had ADHD. One of the most motivating things to keep me going but also one of the most discouraging problems when things aren't going well. But still always important to know!
Hello, it is funny that many of that, i found it alone, as water bath i my rain tank, small easy victory the soonest possible (the harder part is to go when it seems to me to go out from coma every morning!) The time of work is a good interesting way so i don't have to spend hours to thinks about how / by what to start ... By the way, you spoke about a "free gamified app to help", but the only thing is only free 1 week then you have to pay..... Handicaped people aren't did you know ?
Good call on starting with the easiest thing first. In education, we practice this by targeting the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD). If the content or task is too difficult, learned helplessness will take over.
I can really feel the connection to all of your videos - meaning it resonates so well with me, finally somebody who understands what it is to deal with an ADHD.
The first 3 steps is the same idea as "Might as well" : -> "Just three emails are done? Might as well continue" Action gives motivation, indeed ! ♡ The time gives us the needed emergency. So a time helps. I wouldn't say that the level of dopamine an be risen. We just can keep the level we have and slow down its sped up degradation. A calendar at the same place becomes invisible, remember #objectPermanence :') A big thing that helps is Body Doubling. May it be a phone call or only a video "Study with me" to fake it ♡

oh im not sure if he gives it to you, if you go to the link in the description you have to pay his course/couching (that technically you can try and get your money back) i assume there is when you access to it if you do.
apparently, he is lying. Very disappointing given that this video is actually good content, but he is using it to make you click on his course thing, which requires you to input your email adress and then sends you to a fake livestream. It is not live, it is pre-recorded, but it is made to appear as if it was live, chat and all. That also makes it impossible to skip ahead on what is actually a video. I am genuinely upset that this guy is utilizing these sort of scam strategies.
Something that has helped me incredibly to be productive in the morning has been to always write my daily to-do list the night before with the most important tasks that will move my business forward placed 1st

I never realized that my need for novelty was related to my ADHD. As an artist I am always going back and forward from painting at my in-home studio, to my studio in town. Also I did not know that my constant need for stimulation was related to ADHD. When I am doing tasks I am constantly listening to podcasts. If the podcast is boring I switch to another one. I thought I was distracting myself from something deeper. This gives me relieve that it's just a need for stimulation.
It's impossible to become fluent in any language using only Duolingo... Or maybe you use also that stuff like, I dunno, duo cards, maybe... I have 1 year and 7 months streak, and you know what, they give me same f... vocabulary, although I tried to change the level and get higher, I pass tests without any mistakes, and still they give me same vocabulary. Stupid duo.
Getting rid of negativity and being in a good environment helps also. You seem to prefer nice environments yourself. In general people use fear and threats to subdue and overwhelm people. I think ADHDers will be affected even more as it is a major internal distraction that keeps them from focusing on their own goals.

This made so much sense. It's difficult being a mum though. The mornings are full of getting the kids to school. I don't get to sit down to work (run my own business from home) until about 10am, that's 3 hours after I've woken up. Like your idea of to-do lists that run on time rather than completion. I think ADHD advice should be more "How to reduce the number of boring tasks in your life" rather than "How to get better at doing a lot of boring tasks efficiently".
@@takeshimovies5869 Perhaps, but even if it’s late diagnosed and a change your whole carreer scenario, doing boring tasks for 25 years and switching to interesting tasks for the last 20 years until you retire is still going to be more worthwhile than doing boring tasks for the full 45 years until you retire. The first path is the ‘it aint over till it’s over’ while the second path is the one you regret on your deathbed.
Become a MINIMALIST---get rid of the clutter in your life. The less crap you have, the less boring tasks you have in taking care of it all. I hate, hate, hate cleaning but REQUIRE a clean house to function properly. Getting rid of excess stuff makes it much much easier to clean and there is less to do.

This is perhaps the best video I’ve ever seen on ADHD and motivation. I feel like you realllllly know me. And it helped me feel less overwhelmed. I’ve been in such a rut lately and was starting to get really down on myself for my lack of motivation. Going to try out your plan!
Okay I sign up for event and it’s torture: almost 2 hours, no time codes, no easy way to change speed etc - it’s cruel even for neurotypicals, not to talk about ADHDers.
I found out that the same vid has time codes when you email it, but (but it’s not links like here on TH-cam), but when you register you get the link without it
Use buddy double too, for everything I can - work amazing yeaah We have been working out at home with my friend, in zoom, for 8 month. Before that I have so many struggles with that, amazing how it can get really easy with an online friend doing the same workout with you

I am trying to adapt these concepts to childcare, because small children are oftentimes sensory overwhelming and boring, even isolating, at the same time. It’s really worth it, because life with kids will be much more fun for everyone if you hack this. 🎉❤
I recommend listening to the Tao Te Ching audiobooks in the background repeatedly as well. There are so many timeless lessons in the text that are helpful to internalize. "He who acts defeats his own purpose; He who grasps loses. The sage does not act, and so is not defeated. He does not grasp and therefore does not lose. People usually fail when they are on the verge of success. So give as much care to the end as to the beginning; Then there will be no failure."

Thank you for all the advice. I am 37 and have ADHD all my live, it has been a struggle and took a lot of effort to deal with it. I am off medication because it only made my hyperfocus worse and my emotional state was flat, not feeling myself. I learned some natural ways to cope with it. Recently I bought a Shakti mat, that is the best thing to get you in 10 minutes in a relaxing state and free some space in your head. For me it is a life saver! If I would have known before that would have mad so much difference if when feeling overwhelmed. Mostly I fall a sleep as well. So maybe it works for others as well. I learned a lot from the other videos, like the time based goals and start with easy things. Cold showers work for me and Lions Mane or Rhodiola rosea for some natural dopamine raise in the morning.
Thank you. Great video. I haven't been diagnosed ADHD but I have always had a hard time getting anything done that wasn't in the realm of my previous job. I've been watching alot of Adhd and autistic videos. And there's so much that reflex the issues I have. Once I get into my new job and get insurance, I want to see a specialist about getting a diagnosis. But until then, trying to look for ways to help deal with it, especially since i'm starting a new youtube channel, it really noticed the issues a focus and consistency. The main takeaway is that we focus better when theres others involved (reference groups, mirror neurons, and accountability) and theres a product hes selling based around this and other science. If I am getting chores done, but not those on my list I make a list of things that I have done. Looking at what I accomplished gives me a dopamine hit.
I add them to my list just to cross them off! lol, I swear my house would never get clean if I didn’t use cleaning as a means of procrastinating administrative tasks 😂

This is a great strategy. Sometimes, I change up the environment by playing music, changing up the LED smart lightbulb or set the cleaning tasks for the morning, afternoon or AM/PM on the weekends. That way, it is less overwhelming by Sunday and Monday. Mon less things to do. I've noticed that preparing different colored teas or cold drinks will boost my dopamine in the morning. I'm always experimenting with teas, coffees, and mineral spring water. I can do lists as long as it remains visible, such as a magnetic writing board on the fridge and star magnets. Every time, my roommates or I accomplish a whole week of chores. A star goes next to the person's name. Then reset, and you get to challenge yourself and your roommates once again. Like a video game or a game show. 🎮 🕹

Same! And I believe that you are not exaggerating when you say your own personal hell. I absolutely get it. It is hell. I try so hard to break down my projects into manageable smaller tasks but I end up writing a notebook full of steps, and steps for each step. Then get nothing done except exhausting myself into paralysis.

I came across something similar by accident for housework... 10min kitchen clean, 10min bathrooms clean, 10min washing clothes/ fold clothes or ironing, 10 min dust/ vacuum house, 10 min mop etc... if you don't find the task in 10, you must move to the next task even if by that stage you want to keep on doing it, great dopamine hits and majority gets done in an hour. Before this system I used to spin my wheels and not do any of it.

Works for me too! And can work to declutter two areas at the same time, eg 10 mins kitchen drawer and 10 mins shoes - stops you getting ‘blind’ to it! Also do that with loud music and a count down timer and bingo! 😂🎉

What these videos almost always fail to take into consideration is that we're not all self-employed TH-camrs who can wake up at 9, go for a run, take a cold shower, and immediately get to work. Most of us have to wake up when it's still dark outside, take a shower, let the dog out, wolf down some breakfast, then get in the car for a 30-45 minute commute to our job that starts at 8am. There's not a lot of "get some sunshine and go for a morning run before plopping down in my home office to write a script for my TH-cam video" opportunities for most people.
Alot of ADHDers prefer to be self employed

WOW!!! You've just described my situation to a tee! 😱 I was 53 when I was diagnosed! I gradually watched my life go from somewhat orderly to chaotic! Really frustrating! It's different for women. My ADHD became heightened because of the hormone issues after the menopause which is what led to my diagnosis. My apartment is now ordered chaos as a result! I'm in the UK and the support we need just isn't there. Sometimes I get so angry because we're being made to feel as though it's our fault or that we don't matter because we have the disorder when we're in no way to blame! I managed to get a degree back in the early 90's before the menopause set in. But little did I know I would only have a few years before the craziness would return with a vengeance! 😭 These videos have been a breath of fresh air not to mention very enlightening!

But my distraction and confusion kicked in, and i couldn't pass the second year. I just wanted to stop time because i couldn't focus, but youtube i could watch it for ours. The drive to acomplish things just Was not overthere. I wanted to dissappear. Now when i listen to Adhders i feel they felt the same things I've passed through all my life and since they are tackling ADHD using techniques and tricks, that gives me hope for a better future at 47😅. Try to read The Better Brain by J Kaplan and J Rucklidge. Also Hardy Nutritionals have Daily Essential Nutrients, based on research from the professors mentioned earlier.

One thing I that gives me a nice dopamine hit is before and afters. I take pictures if it is a visual difference, I make charts, to-do lists, and such, if it is a data difference. I do have to be careful with charts and to-do lists as these can cause me to hyper-focus on them and not get the actual thing done :S
I also had to change how I looked at success. I would idealize what the end product should look like and sometimes this alone would cripple me from starting - too difficult, too many steps. So now I just take success as making progress.
I also find that if I try to do something when I am not properly motivated it's kind of a waste of time and does not get done properly. If I wait until I have that motivation, it is soooo easy!

Your videos are changing my life. I originally started watching because my step-son has ADHD and my husband and I wanted to understand how to best help him. However, the more videos I watched, the more I realized I exhibit most of the behaviors and symptoms. So, I'll be speaking with my psychiatrist next week... but to your point, I've struggled with routine and consistency and frequently space out when bored but can also have issues with over-stimulation. I've read hundreds of books on time management and productivity in the hopes of finally getting around my procrastination habits. I could never stick with any of it. All the tips and tricks in those books made sense on a logical level, but still somehow it doesn't jive with me. Finding your channel has been a blessing. I'm binging and putting this shit into practice ASAP.

I've been struggling with motivations, or lackthereof, to a sense that I feel like I should've been in a better position in my life. Modern technology/notifications/social media have all been designed to hook users, and have affected our brain chemistry. Even though I do not have ADHD (it's not how I was before I had my first smartphone), my present-day attention problem is stemming from modern life and the tips in this video were still SO HELPFUL

Once back... coffee, music and work on whatever my mind is attached to that day.

Boring tasks are the drag... I try to do those while I do other things. Laundry, dishes, cleaning, paying bills, etc. Always at the last possible moment. Always gets done, no problem

I hear you. I actually work with focus and calm in the late afternoon. Except that's when I usually cook. Maybe I should cook in the morning and work in the afternoon. We are so tied into standard daily structures that just don't work for us.

2nd viewing, taking notes, “rewinding” when I lost focus. The dopamine connection I’ve only learned about recently. It makes sense now why if I don’t get started in the morning with what I need to do, I don’t get started. I have noticed that when I just do a few steps of something, I do come back to it more easily instead of trying to get it all done at once. Also, setting a time deadline for something like taking the much-needed walk helps. I set a goal of 20 minutes but often stay out longer. I look forward to exploring this further. I’m tired of not getting sh*t done. Thank you.
The point about perfectionism is very valid. If you can start in a small way - work, exercise, hoovering etc however small ' it is better than doing nothing.

Routines are difficult to maintain. Break your routines some days so you don't get bored.
2. Break tasks into the first 3 steps. Commit to short spurts. Outcome based goals vs time based goals
Do something. Not everything
3. Build momentum. Start with the easiest thing first. Quick dopamine hit. Video games always start easy. Focus on easy tasks esp after a long break eg mornings or after long breaks
5. Build streaks. A streak - number of days you do something. Eg Duolingo
ADHDers struggle with consistency not motivation
It's okay to have off days. Work at your own pace. Don't be too hard on yourself. compare yourself with you
Don't complicate it.
5. Regularly introduce novelty
Eg switch where you work, with whom or how or the time. Eg finish before x
Leverage competition. Alternate tasks combine tasks. Tweak environment

Ironically (maybe not?), I'm watching this video because I have massive projects looming over me with deadlines that make me want to spiral, run away in the forest and never come back, or go back to bed. Even after 6 espressos.
But even though I might not be able to write all 7000 words of an article (and write two additional articles, write 3 newsletters, and do 3 hours of SEO work) in one day, I can at least DO SOMETHING to move all these projects forward.
Perfectionism is definitely the thing holding me back (and also the sheer quantity of work to do).
I started with the simplest task (uploading a consultation on TH-cam to give the replay to my client, which is how I found the video -- waiting for the replay to upload/render).
Also, as a feral Trekkie, I love that you included Sir Patrick Stewart! I have a "First Contact" film poster behind me and a Captain Picard action figure next to me on my desk.
Strangely, it helps thinking these are orders from my captain, and I can't let down Picard 🤣

I'm curious because I'm addicted to working and winning, but my therapist told me this is categorically a bad thing because I'm using work and chasing productivity/wins to avoid other areas of my life. I'll sometimes forget to go outside or talk to another person for 3+ days because I'm so wrapped up with work because I feel the NEED to work to feel worthy of being alive.

I Use Semantics to Reframe & Redefine My Boring Stuff...Or I Mutitask Things.
Example: When I Need Groceries & Laundry...& I Love Driving.
So I Frame The 3 Pieces Together. Go For A Drive...While I'm Out & About, Throw The Laundry in At Washhouse, Run Get Groceries...Enjoy saving Money by analyzing what I'm buying and creating meals on the fly using what I get on sale then feeling really accomplushed...go get fuel and save on that through my fuel points...run back to washhouse to dry clothes while I write my blog post then take the 40 minute drive back home where I get to enjoy all my work that I accomplished in About 3-4 Hours. I Start This Process Right After My Morning Workout When Dopamine is Skyrocketed.
By Noon I'm Feeling Really Good!!! Add a Little Homecare & My Day is Complete.

That’s what works best for me too, but it’s confusing to hear all the gurus talk about *stimulate bdnf by doing an intense work out right away!* but to your point, that’s my golden hour and I am most productive with my deep work 5 am sessions. The momentum part is so trueee. It also implemends with how we should read books. When I start with the most interesting page, I always will end up reading alot because it got me hooked.

Cold showers also helps you get you out of freeze fawn or flop when you can't get out of fight or flight. This is according to my therapist.

You describe my life, my reactions, my issues, even solutions I've stumbled across. This is so valuable. I am glad for you that you discovered this while you are still so young and can use this knowledge to progress.
Your advice on time-based goals and doing easiest things first are so helpful.
I have not been diagnosed medically with ADHD, but all content I see about it is mostly relatable. I have been asked by 6 people if I have the condition and I honestly think it is true my actions say it all.
I think this video will be a way to start dealing with it as I seek additional help.

This is one of the few videos out there that's not beating around the bush and isn't solely trying to sell. Thank you. This spoke very close to me. I think it's very different to make a video as someone with adhd or have *air quotes* read about it.
This is my second time watching and taking notes and will surely recommend.
I felt relatable when I saw your shorts, but with how aggressively how you're selling your course, and how you spent the first minute of the video just to make sure people stay and your video does well with the algorithm, I feel less sure about trusting you.
But as soon as the video started, I started trusting you a bit more. Whatever you said, makes sense.

This is the 2nd of your videos that I have watched. I am retired from being a public school teacher. I was asked on several occasions to fill out a questionnaire so the counselors could determine if a student might have signs of ADHD. Everyone of them was diagnosed with ADHD. I would joke with my colleagues that if this student has ADHD, then I did too. After watching these 2 videos, I am seeing that you have been struggling with the same "boredom" as me...throughout my entire life. Thanks for creating and sharing the videos. I think that I can learn more about myself and understand why at times I am super productive, and at other times I procrastinate.
I always set out the “tools” I need ahead of time. For example, I hate making protein shakes, but if I set out the ingredients I’m “lured” into making it. Also, have you looked into fasting? Supposedly does a dopamine reset. Excellent video as always!

Yes, that's part of my strategy, also! It's easier for me to get started on tasks when I physically lay out the tools and materials ahead of time. It works MOST if not all of the time. 😊

This one of the rarest video about ADHD and productivity that are actually insightful and i learned new things from it and definitely gonna try it out.
My favourite is the focusing on the time of the task instead of the outcome and tricking your mind into 5 min start and of course the cold shower :)

Some good strategies but this is very clickbait-ey. I'm not trying to troll here but to find out the three bonus strategies requires watching an almost 2-hour sales video. It just goes on and on, with some dubious data and endless repetition. And I never did get my notion template, apparently, it's only for those who sign up. I have ADHD. Trying to pay attention for that long used up all my dopamine.
I just wanted the Notion template, an email signup is a fair trade, a 2 hour fake/prerecorded webinar definitely isn't 🙃
Like- I'd even rather buy the template, that's a good value thing to exchange

I sat through it like an adult. The science is spot on. I don’t know what kind of expert you are that you can call it dubious. I joined, it’s changed my life for the better. You enjoy staying where you are at in your mediocrity and misplacing your anger at people who have worked really hard and are trying to help others

1. Several notepads and post-it pads about to throw ideas at (likely never look at them again, but they went into the brain).
2. Brain's always doing so many things at same time, so I let it keep itself busy - just spectate because it keeps the mind busy.
3. I love that idea of tracking momentum and acheivements.
4. Spend some time just letting the brain go for it - let it go 'fractal' with its thinking, composing, and reformulating.
5. Look at everything with naivety, as a young child would. The unfettered brain is a marvelous thing.
6. Try not to bottle up creativity (if you do that). Let it out - it makes us human.
7. Try to find stuff to laugh about (about, not at). Laughter is an amazing dopamine spiker.

I think understanding the adhd comes first, understanding your adhd second, and then seeing what works for you comes last (and it’s a constant refinement of things that work for you). Thanks for the video! Always looking for different implementations I can try to assist my adhd.

The tracking of progress. I track my daily writing word counts and did before I even realized I had ADHD. One of the most motivating things to keep me going but also one of the most discouraging problems when things aren't going well. But still always important to know!
Hello, it is funny that many of that, i found it alone, as water bath i my rain tank, small easy victory the soonest possible (the harder part is to go when it seems to me to go out from coma every morning!) The time of work is a good interesting way so i don't have to spend hours to thinks about how / by what to start ... By the way, you spoke about a "free gamified app to help", but the only thing is only free 1 week then you have to pay..... Handicaped people aren't did you know ?
I’m a young guy who has suffered from crippling ADHD. This is the FIRST video that is actually helping me imagine a life of consistency.
Good call on starting with the easiest thing first. In education, we practice this by targeting the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD). If the content or task is too difficult, learned helplessness will take over.
I can really feel the connection to all of your videos - meaning it resonates so well with me, finally somebody who understands what it is to deal with an ADHD.

The time gives us the needed emergency. So a time helps.
I wouldn't say that the level of dopamine an be risen. We just can keep the level we have and slow down its sped up degradation.
A calendar at the same place becomes invisible, remember #objectPermanence :')
A big thing that helps is Body Doubling. May it be a phone call or only a video "Study with me" to fake it ♡

oh im not sure if he gives it to you, if you go to the link in the description you have to pay his course/couching (that technically you can try and get your money back) i assume there is when you access to it if you do.
apparently, he is lying. Very disappointing given that this video is actually good content, but he is using it to make you click on his course thing, which requires you to input your email adress and then sends you to a fake livestream. It is not live, it is pre-recorded, but it is made to appear as if it was live, chat and all. That also makes it impossible to skip ahead on what is actually a video.
I am genuinely upset that this guy is utilizing these sort of scam strategies.

Something that has helped me incredibly to be productive in the morning has been to always write my daily to-do list the night before with the most important tasks that will move my business forward placed 1st
I was super pumped to watch this video, but after about 1:15 I decided to go play call of duty for a little while.
I made it to 1:17 and paused it to see if anyone else was as unengaged as me. I don't what I'm going to do now but it's not watch the rest of this video.

I never realized that my need for novelty was related to my ADHD. As an artist I am always going back and forward from painting at my in-home studio, to my studio in town. Also I did not know that my constant need for stimulation was related to ADHD. When I am doing tasks I am constantly listening to podcasts. If the podcast is boring I switch to another one. I thought I was distracting myself from something deeper. This gives me relieve that it's just a need for stimulation.
....just don´t do Duolingo during your coffee breaks...might end in a 2h coffee break....3 year strong bird-streak and fluent in 5 languages🐦
If only. I've been trying to learn spanish for years and duolingo was one of the ways I've tried.
It's impossible to become fluent in any language using only Duolingo... Or maybe you use also that stuff like, I dunno, duo cards, maybe... I have 1 year and 7 months streak, and you know what, they give me same f... vocabulary, although I tried to change the level and get higher, I pass tests without any mistakes, and still they give me same vocabulary. Stupid duo.
Getting rid of negativity and being in a good environment helps also. You seem to prefer nice environments yourself. In general people use fear and threats to subdue and overwhelm people. I think ADHDers will be affected even more as it is a major internal distraction that keeps them from focusing on their own goals.

This made so much sense. It's difficult being a mum though. The mornings are full of getting the kids to school. I don't get to sit down to work (run my own business from home) until about 10am, that's 3 hours after I've woken up. Like your idea of to-do lists that run on time rather than completion. I'm going to try this.

I think ADHD advice should be more "How to reduce the number of boring tasks in your life" rather than "How to get better at doing a lot of boring tasks efficiently".
Well, it's mostly "change your work" scenario, and not so many people can afford that especially if they late diagnosed
@@takeshimovies5869 Perhaps, but even if it’s late diagnosed and a change your whole carreer scenario, doing boring tasks for 25 years and switching to interesting tasks for the last 20 years until you retire is still going to be more worthwhile than doing boring tasks for the full 45 years until you retire. The first path is the ‘it aint over till it’s over’ while the second path is the one you regret on your deathbed.

Become a MINIMALIST---get rid of the clutter in your life. The less crap you have, the less boring tasks you have in taking care of it all. I hate, hate, hate cleaning but REQUIRE a clean house to function properly. Getting rid of excess stuff makes it much much easier to clean and there is less to do.

This is perhaps the best video I’ve ever seen on ADHD and motivation. I feel like you realllllly know me. And it helped me feel less overwhelmed. I’ve been in such a rut lately and was starting to get really down on myself for my lack of motivation. Going to try out your plan!
Okay I sign up for event and it’s torture: almost 2 hours, no time codes, no easy way to change speed etc - it’s cruel even for neurotypicals, not to talk about ADHDers.
I found out that the same vid has time codes when you email it, but (but it’s not links like here on TH-cam), but when you register you get the link without it
Use buddy double too, for everything I can - work amazing yeaah
We have been working out at home with my friend, in zoom, for 8 month. Before that I have so many struggles with that, amazing how it can get really easy with an online friend doing the same workout with you
All in all it was boring and too selling, sorry, but whis vid is much better.

honestly idk if you can acces to it, i went to the link in the description expecting to find it but i found a web page to suscribe to and then a long vido (1:40 hs long) where he explain you why you should suscribe to "the revolution" not sure if its a course, couching or what because my ADHD butt coudnt watch the long video fully already knowing i was being scammed xDD
I am trying to adapt these concepts to childcare, because small children are oftentimes sensory overwhelming and boring, even isolating, at the same time. It’s really worth it, because life with kids will be much more fun for everyone if you hack this. 🎉❤

I recommend listening to the Tao Te Ching audiobooks in the background repeatedly as well. There are so many timeless lessons in the text that are helpful to internalize.

Thank you for all the advice. I am 37 and have ADHD all my live, it has been a struggle and took a lot of effort to deal with it. I am off medication because it only made my hyperfocus worse and my emotional state was flat, not feeling myself. I learned some natural ways to cope with it. Recently I bought a Shakti mat, that is the best thing to get you in 10 minutes in a relaxing state and free some space in your head. For me it is a life saver! If I would have known before that would have mad so much difference if when feeling overwhelmed. Mostly I fall a sleep as well. So maybe it works for others as well.
I learned a lot from the other videos, like the time based goals and start with easy things. Cold showers work for me and Lions Mane or Rhodiola rosea for some natural dopamine raise in the morning.

Thank you. Great video. I haven't been diagnosed ADHD but I have always had a hard time getting anything done that wasn't in the realm of my previous job. I've been watching alot of Adhd and autistic videos. And there's so much that reflex the issues I have. Once I get into my new job and get insurance, I want to see a specialist about getting a diagnosis. But until then, trying to look for ways to help deal with it, especially since i'm starting a new youtube channel, it really noticed the issues a focus and consistency. Thank you so much for the video. Is very insightful. I most definitely will give your tips a try. It's tough when you think something is wrong. But don't know what especially when you've been doing something so long. That you is normal for you, then you realize, maybe it's not so normal.
