    The idea is good, but when it comes to creating strings for scoring, it's better not to keep them on the grid, I mean, let the strings flow between each other, so it creates major tension and feels more real. Good job btw

Clearly, he/she hasn't made a lot of orchestral music and I actually applaud them for stepping out of their comfort zone and trying a way different genre. You can make something far better in 17 minutes but, I think this is a perfect way to go through it in an easily digestible way for people new to orchestral music.

    That final result, while a bit repetitive, is an epic sound.

  • @artfxdnb
    @artfxdnb 6 ปีที่แล้ว +668

    The end result sounds very basic and without much life to it, it sounds very stale because you've used no humanization at all. Offset notes from the grid, work with different velocities, and so on. If you would've done those things it would've sound less stale and hopefully give it more realism. I probably would've picked a different instrument than Nexus though, probably some Kontakt libraries for a bit more control and a more realistic end result.

    • @CJBurkey
      @CJBurkey 6 ปีที่แล้ว +73

      I feel even if he did humanize, most people would not notice in the end result. At least, starting and ending note position humanization from my experience, nobody without an ear for it will notice. Things like velocity humanization, however, are very different. Had he done that, I do believe it would have changed the feel of the entire track, so there I agree with you.

  • @saxenaabhishek633
    @saxenaabhishek633 6 ปีที่แล้ว +176

    Its just an idea so l'm not gonna judge down the professional little things.
    But at the very beginner level :
    1. You could've randomised the piano-notes velocity to impersonate human-touch emotions.
    2. If people learn through this and start using nexus, they could really roll themselves to a completely different road. I'm a big fan of nexus, but those intricate sounds feel too electronic. Maybe some amount of nexus can be used and not more than one or two times.
    Wish 'Kontakt' was there in this video.
    3. It would've really been better if the people could actually learn how to make drums. So they could do something very original.
    4. Those uplifters were not cinematic/film-scoring-sounding uplifters at all. Native Instrument's Rise and Hit, is the best I've ever seen yet. But the ones used in here, weren't even a bit close.
    With all due respect, I guess you've realised all this and you'll keep it in consideration for your upcoming, better tutorials.
    Thank You. :)

    I enjoyed the video. It takes training and/or practice to be able to arrange orchestra scores. Well done

  • @FreakieFan
    @FreakieFan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Okay, I guess this could be useful for entry level composers who know basically nothing, but I really hope most people don't take these tips to heart. This is the most boring and stale way of composed and arranging a piece.
    If you want to get good, listen to the greats, train your ear, and learn from them. Try to imitate if you want. That will be better practice than creating these generic 4-chord car commercial tunes, arranged as if its an EDM song with strings. There is not a single scene in any movie that would fit this.
    That said, I do like the drums.

      @Kore VFX
      I'd happily want to answer all of your orchestration and / or composition questions, but it would have to be more specific.
      "What I would differently" is a question you can answer in a 1000 different ways.
      The main problem with this demonstration is that it is a totally overused and uninspired 4 chord progression that repeats constantly (which is something that rarely works in film or orchestral music). As well as the orchestration in this is uninspired, flat and generic; which is the biggest problem. Hans Zimmer's world famous compositions are often just 4-chord progressions as well, but they are orchestrated and produced on such a grand scale with lots of flourishes that make it an interesting piece.
      This demonstration is just a 4 chord progression with the chords MIDI mapped to sounds that happen to be orchestral. And that isn't orchestral composition.
      If you want to improve your film music composition I suggest carefully listening to great intricate film music to figure out what is happening, and what the instruments are doing.
      I suggest John Williams' work or great orchestral program music like: (first that come to mind)
      -Strauss - Alpine Symphony
      -Holst - The Planets
      -Debussy - La Mer, especially, but almost all of his orchestral music was program music.
      -Rachmaninoff - Isle of the Dead.
      -Dekas - Sorcerer's Apprentice
      -Ravel - Pavane pour une infante défunte
      -Saint-Saëns - Danse Macabre or Carnival of Animals.
      You can listen to these with a score sheet that follows along. There are many videos like this on TH-cam will really help you figure out what the orchestra is doing.
      I hope this helps a bit.

      @Kore VFX
      No worries, I was a bit too negative in my original comment too, but I just hoped that people don't watch this and think this is how you make high quality film music.

      Any orchestral sounds you might find from Nexus are garbage. Static, unrealistic, cheap, tinny bullshit.
      And it didn't help either that the music he made is an 8 bar loop of the most generic chord progression layered with a "piano" arpeggio.

      Akira Satoru. you must be talking about yourself. Anybody studying orchestral would tell a ton of thing that are missing. In that state it is just barely a mock up. The note on violin melody on bar 8 is not sounding good. The high end on wiolin actually introduce hiss which is bad, the overall arrangement is fair enough yet I don't like the bass being used like a snare roll it sounds weird to me but whatever. Plus the most important part is how the instruments are used. It sounds dead and robotic. It is written like eletronic music with natural sounding instruments. That said learning how to properly use the instruments is not really a walk in the parc.
