Want this to be my dream job, starting out as a music composer starting from scratch but with 15 years piano training and theory so this helps big time.
Fascinating insight. Really enjoyed this. I think we often don't even notice great soundtracks, and I for one am guilty of not thinking about what went into creating them.
Recently found your channel. Your process, thoughts and the overall development is amazing. Its fascinating how just a few notes at the "correct" point elevate a scene. Thank you for your contribution!
Can you do a video on how to compose/structure an action scene? If you're doing free tempo I don't know how that would work, and how to line the music up to things that are happening in the movie. BTW this is one of the most helpful videos for me so thank you!!! You're great Marc!
Thanks Jayden! I'm doing free tempo just for this specific scene. For an action scene I would definitely have tempo and markers to hit certain moments. I might do a video of that topic in the future :)
I think the world of production is here . Loops and Ai has finished the life of music production at some point all music sound a like but with music for video , it’s different u get to hear uniqueness and enjoy music with story telling
Coming from a music production and live performance dj background, now transitioning into video. I tracked with you throughout this video and then you dropped a term I’ve never heard before “free tempo”. Teach me more, please 🙏
Free tempo just means that there is no tempo set (or it is ignored). So if you were to put the click track on then the notes wouldn't necessarily line up with the beats and bars. Also, the clicks wouldn't be timed in line with the action on screen. This is handy for quickly scoring one or two instruments but you would struggle beyond that as you wouldn't be able to "count in" or play live.
@2:57 & elsewhere The chart says: COME UP WITH "THE CONCEPT" - 5 step process ... but only 4 steps are listed ... What's the 5th step? Any way to see the rest of the chart?
Some good film makers arrange their movies with music in mind, making their scenes rhythmical and in sync with the beat. That way we composers have an easier job spotting and setting the tempo of the music afterwards. When that is not the case, with clever or dare I say even cunning use of time signatures and tempo you can make a score hit a frame or a marker you intend to. Having in mind the tempo would mainly be directed by the context of the picture you are scoring.
Beginner here! Probably a dumb question… In LOGIC How do you NOT have a tempo. It seems there MUST be tempo… By default every project has a tempo, one can disable the click track and play freely, but the project seems to require some tempO.
@@landonp629 Yes, I understand that. It's easy to turn the metronome off and ignore it. I was just curious whether the DAW that Marc is using in the video has the capability of not even having a tempo.
@@MarkEisenman he is using Cubase - which doesn’t allow you to toggle off a tempo. But rather or not the daw has a tempo isn’t important if you don’t need it. Any daw can free-compose, just turn off the click and ignore the tempo lines. Some DAWs like Reaper can turn the lines off, etc. But to answer your question: I am not aware of any Daw that allows you to fully disable all tempo references. Some daws allow you to hide the tempo features though.
@@farnaztabatabaee There is a couple ways that I know of, but they aren't near as good sounding. You could use a plugin called Clarity Vx to remove the music but it doesn't work perfectly. Pretty close but not perfect. You could also get surgical with the sound by using a software like RX or Spectralayers. Using those two softwares, you could even remove the dialogue and keep the music, which usually sounds better, but doesn't help in this case.
Work with Marc & Chris Young (Spider-Man). Grow as a composer and get career opportunities. Small group. Apply to MOMENTUM here: bit.ly/mmmylc
As a filmmaker, this breakdown was priceless! I would love to see more of such videos. Thanks for your contribution to the community!!

Marc, I want to thank you for your videos. You gave me insight and motivation. Also, I liked were you placed the theme.
Great lesson sir but to export video on cubase ?
Wow. What a privilege to learn this. Thank you.
one of the most helpful videos on film composing here!
Very inspirational sir. Thank you for keeping this uploaded.
Beautiful work Marc- and using silence "as" music.

Marc if you write for a film, what would be the process after you’ve completed? Do you mix and master?
They have music editors that add the music into the film
Thank you so much, it´s very exciting to see, how you are working! 😊
thanks.. really appreciate what you doing
for starters its very confusing thanks for sharing your mind
This was very valuable for me -- thanks!
This beat on my heart

Very instructive, thank you so much!

Hi!
If music for this scene had to be recorded by musicians in a studio - would you add a tempo track? How would this music recorded in studio?

Can somebody please tell me all the different types of music used in movies for example: temp music 1:57
What piano library do you use?
God blesss man😊
What software is this?
All I could think was "But Lieutenant Dan, you ain't got no legs"
so you did t set a tempo in this scene. but how would you set a tempo. do you calculate between markers or something?

Just because the software lists a temp doesn't mean you have to follow it.

How you play the video while you put the audio in DAW ???
Trying to figure this out also
Hi
Where can I find this video to score myself. (If at all possible)
what does close soundtrack and unclose soundtrack mean?
What is name of the movie???
I would love to have a discord call with you and ask for your guidance on some stuff I'm working on. Developing a small series for youtube.
hie sir, which piano library is that? sounds amazing...
Dude, most probably from bbc. I also got excited after hearing the sound of that.
How do you seprate the music from the dialogue?
He received different audio tracks... Filmmakers usually send multiple audio, like fx track, dialog track, temp cue track etc etc
@@dibi8600 aww…Got it,Thank you!so there isn’t any way?🤔

😂 the acting. The synths. The perfect hair in the hospital. And yeah I would have scored it differently
