    I've used my leg as a rod holder for years and caught some big fish, but your setup looks sweet. What kind of clamp is that and has it ever slipped or failed on a snag or fish?

      It’s the only way to go, no more leg cramps or uncomfortability. It’s the tough claw and rod holder (two pieces) made by RAM Mounts. It clamps right on to the gunwhale or thwart with a rubber grip and has never once slipped on me-it’s super stable and the rubber clamp is gentle, even on the wood gunwhales on my boat

    Ok,
    I am doing it.
    I made a May15-19 2022
    Reservation for Seagull lake.
    After seeing you catch lots of Lakers, on other lakes. I decided to go for it.
    What is your advise for
    lake trout and walleyes ?
    I can bring a depth finder.
    How much of a plus would be the locator with the fish being shallow.
    Thanks...

      Not sure about the sonar and the shallow lakers. This year will be my first Ice out trip targeting them with the water being this cold so I’m not sure. Never fished seagull for walleyes but I wouldn’t even bother targeting them with the water this cold. They will likely not even be staging to spawn until the water temps start hitting the 50s. I’d concentrate of the first breaks (drop offs, shorelines, reefs, etc) just deep enough to troll (8-15’) and work my way deeper until you start finding fish

    Anyone ever tell you that you sound like Tom Boley?

      Haha, nope, definitely a first.

      I am not at all offended, but I must point out that he has a really thick Wisconsin accent and I, a more subtle, refined Minnesotan accent. 😂

    Love this video :) We have been going up to the BWCA for 30 years. Glad to see that you had a great time and caught some nice fish :)

    I was suposed to take a group of kids up to the boundary waters, but we had to cancel because of covid... Thanks for a great video that shows such beauty. Hopeful I can bring the kids up next summer and get some fish!

      Covid definitely threw us all for a loop this year. Hopefully this summer we can get back to something more “normal.” Stop in at Piragis to say hello if you travel through Ely!

    Enjoy this while you can. I am old now and my paddling odometer has turned over many times. I need to have both shoulders totally replaced so my paddling days are over. Savor every moment, you won't see anything that beautiful again unless Jesus is your Lord and savior and you get to heaven.

      Thank you, I absolutely will enjoy every minute. I am sorry to hear your paddling days are over. I hope my channel can bring you into the woods in spirit, if not physically

    Nice fish. Any particular reason you guys went the Ensign route instead of the Sucker/Birch way?

    • @therealfarwater
      @therealfarwater  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because we are gluttons for punishment... Jk, we were playing it safe and avoiding that route as the border is closed and a few of those portages are on Canadian soil.

  • @RelentlessSportsman

    I'm surprised you guys took that route to Knife Lake.
    When I go up there, I would go through Knife Lake River with the smaller portages.
    Is it easier the way you went?

    • @therealfarwater
      @therealfarwater  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, much more difficult going through Vera. We were trying to avoid using those Canadian portages with the border closure...guess we didn’t need to

    By "Little Knife" do you mean South Arm?

    • @therealfarwater
      @therealfarwater  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, little knife lake, up by ottertrack on the way to Amoeber

      @@therealfarwater Thanks. It's just a bay of Knife. Regardless - it looks like you had a great time fishing. Great editing on the video.
