For a BWCA nut who works too much in the winter, your videos are the best thing on the internet, hands down. And thank you for the time and effort that go into producing these...what a gift to the rest of us.
Thanks for the support!! I’m just getting out tomorrow for the first time-we’ve had record breaking warm weather so far this winter-more videos coming soon!
@@therealfarwater same here for the temperature , only half inch of snow on the ground in the Montreal region, its been strange winter so far . Big storm coming throught tuesday ...
Great video! I love the hoar frost on the trees almost as much as you catching the poo emoji rock LOL. Basswood Lake looks amazing. It's only 43 miles from my house as the crow flies but it would take me a week to get there 😉
Thank you! Luckily, its relatively close to me! Now that I am confident with the route, I will try to get there more often. There are probably better lake trout lakes that you can access much easier up by you!
We are going camping to basswood in a couple weeks and would like to catch a trout. Been trying a few years for them and they are proving to be elusive
Yup, that's Basswood. I did a 5-day trip to a different area of Basswood last March and we only caught 2 trout total. It's one of those lakes with a massive average size (smallest of the fish we've caught on three trips was 26"), but very low numbers, at least where I've fished. I've been up there for three trips in the winter (10 total days) and a total of 9 trout caught. Be prepared to stare at your sonar screen for 10 hours/day in hopes of getting 2-3 trout to follow and 1 or 2 of those to commit if you're lucky. We didn't have any luck with tip-ups, but I would soak a dead bait on bottom if you're staying in one spot.
@@therealfarwater thank you! Nice fish by the way! Pretty sure me and my buddies already have plans for this being a lifetime time even tho we haven’t been yet!
Got back last night from snowbank. I only got one small eel pout but my one buddy got a 13” and a 17” laker and my other buddy got a 29” laker!! What a trip was so much fun!! Friday was really bad out on the lake with the weather but thats when we got all our lakers was during the storm Friday morning. Adam and Jenny at snowbank lodge are amazing people and took great care of us! Can’t wait to go stay with them again!! Cheers!
Love it! Been looking forward to your next upload for awhile now. I just got home from a slow week up there. No lakers this time for me, but the Brookies were on fire last week!.
Lake trout are always tough to open the season-we only caught the one on this trip. It’s a whole lot of hard work and a little luck when you pull the big ones through the ice.
@@therealfarwater well you do an excellent job of putting out great content. Please keep them coming. Your videos are what motivated and inspired me to go further and further into the back country!
Sorry! I took some time off from the channel this summer but don’t worry, I filmed plenty of content. The weather hasn’t been cooperating this winter-I haven’t been out ice fishing yet. That’ll change this weekend though
I haven’t been out to check ice conditions, but I am guessing this route is not yet passable. Even in early Jan last year we ran into spots with open water. I wouldn’t advise heading to basswood yet
I was wondering if that mud bay on the south end of moose would hold walleye during ice season? That was a serious hike to get all the way out there! Never thought about going via Manomin. It would be cool to see your sleeping set up next time too.
No idea, I’ve never fished moose believe it or not. Even though we had near perfect travel conditions, it was still a slog. 7 miles in the winter is no joke
@@therealfarwater myself included. Now ill take a tow whenever i can justify it. Gettimg too old to paddle the same few lakes with interest, and sacrifice what little time i get to get away.
Yup! You know my wife Lacey from Ely folk school but we’ve never officially met. We’ve been here since 2018. I’ve made it my mission to fish every square inch of my new home-I’d be happy to go fishing sometime
It really depends on the breed and the dog. I didn’t have to train Wendell at all, but he only pulls confidently when there’s someone up ahead. He wants to be running out in front of everyone so he pulls hard when he’s in the back. When he’s in the front, he doesn’t know what to do. He’s ok when we go out solo, but much better when following

You're welcome! What a kind thing to say. They are, of course, my pleasure to share. I am fortunate to live so close, happy to share the experience.
New sub here from Québec ! I love winter camping and ...fishing and your video has both of them

that lake is the best miss fishing on it
One of the best all-around fisheries in North America!

Great video and adventure. Wendell is amazing!
Thank you! He might just love the outdoors as much as I do!
Just stumbled on the channel! Love it! Not easy filming fishing in general. Especially hiking in like that! Nice work! Just subbed
Thank you! The camera gear is a whole lot of work but worth it to be able to share this incredible time in the woods
Oh yeah, we definitely have a few common friends. Neato.
Another great video!
Thank you!

Wendell! Great to see your channel continue to climb. And I appreciate the naming of the lakes as you go through. Very cool
Thank you!
I've heard those pink buzz bombs work great for ice fishing lake trout
Never heard of them so I had to Google-is it a spoon? Their images on the website aren’t great so I’m not quite sure what I’m looking at
OMG can’t wait!!!! Headed to snowbank Wednesday! Would be cool to share a beer on the ice!!
I'd love to but I'll be working all week - have one for me! Good luck out there

Winter is about the only time a guy can traverse moose without the wind somehow ALWAYS in your face slowing progress. Excellent vid buddy.
Yup! I've spent many hours paddling Moose Lake staring at the bottom of the boat to avoid facing directly into the wind...
