Let’s gooo🔥
man with a plan. amazing bobby
My guy!
Wow this was super value-packed. Thanks for the helpful tips bro
Glad it helped!
This is very helpful! I’m a professional MMA fighter and I love the idea of doing editing and media not only for myself but as a career outside of fighting for an additional income.
First channel I’ve subscribed to in this niche and I’ve been watching a lot of videos!
Thank you! It’s a great career to get into and definitely lmk if you have any questions!
@@thebobbymedia the only thing I can’t get my head round is colour grading.
I can capture decent photos and video footage. But, when it comes to the editing programme and specifically colour grading. I have no idea what I am doing 🤣
Be good to see you make a video on basic colour grading.
@@Brian-tt8loI actually made a video on color grading in premiere pro last year but I’m planning to make a new one with updated info on Davinci resolve soon. th-cam.com/video/oRCxDkJWFa8/w-d-xo.html
Great advice!!
Thank you!!
For some reason you get the feel that this man is gonna be great at what he does/ Keep at it man! Awesome stuff btw!
Thank you I really appreciate it!
This is very informative and help me improve my sports vids ❤
Glad I could help!
Banger
Thank u!
great video man
Thank u!
Love how you are at a D3. I also am at a D3 and began here as probably the only person on campus who owned or even knew how to operate a camera. Ended up getting me a gig as a Mizzou Football Videographer. Would love to connect with you sometime.
That's awesome man! I definitely feel the same way about being D3. Also would love to connect, shoot me an email anytime at bobbymedia11@gmail.com
Nice, I’m located in Kansas City. Had a friend play football at Mizzou 💪🏾
This was super helpful and just what I needed! My cousin plays football for UC Davis, and my aunt wants me too record his game, but I am used to filming short film, style videos so I’m confused on what to record and what angles to get so when people want sports videos, are they looking for the whole field of the game or closer angles like shots from being on the field/court?
Thank you!
Normally it’s looking for closer shots of individual players as opposed to the really wide broadcast angles if that makes sense
Hi Bobby - definitely a helpful vid. I've done video and photography but just entered it professionally this summer. Today I met with a client who is looking for skills reels for high school athletes. I'd love todo this sort of thing but have little experience so far. Anyway, main question is, do you do this handheld or with a gimble? If handheld, do you smooth it out in your editor some how?
I do solely handheld for indoor sports like basketball or volleyball, while any outdoor sports i always use my tripod or hi hat. To get stable footage i just try to press my camera against my body and eliminate micro jitters and i add weight to my camera rig to have gravity help stabilize my footage. I rarely smooth it in my editing software
Hey Bobby...great stuff. I am using a Iphone 15 with some Beast Cage & Grip rigging to shoot my son's lacrosse college prospect video's. Any suggestions on settings, FPS, Shutter. Going to use Black Magic App. I saw you has some Amherst lax in your video. Cheers!
Id recommend shooting in 60fps at a 1/120 shutter if you have that option
Dang I never got a dm or questions lol 😅 all love
man, this is a great video for someone like me who's starting! i have tons of questions, but where's the best spot to shoot? do you move around the court?
I typically stay on the baseline and the corners to avoid the refs. I don't move around too much during the game. Glad the video helped!
@@thebobbymedia do you use other form of audio recording? and how many cameras do you use?
@@blackdiamondprodudctions I just use a shotgun mic on top of my camera. And I have 2 cameras but typically only use my c70 during game action
Loved the video! Some really great tips for anyone who wants to break into this industry, including me 🙌
Also, what camera would you recommend for a beginner in sports photography and videography?
I recommend a used A7III or a Sony a6400
Great video Bobby, I’m trying to get into sports videography specifically soccer, and have a lot of contacts in high school/college teams. I’m in Belchertown so not far from you! Currently shooting with the LUMIX S5IIX with various 1.8 prime lenses but looking at picking up the sigma 70-200mm f2.8 sports. Any thoughts on that lens and if it will have enough reach on a soccer field? I’d be shooting at C4k 60fps which switches to aps-c crop so that’ll get me closer to 300mm, then If i turn on high stabilization that gets me more of a crop. Thanks!
I think that'd be a great lens for sure, I use a 70-200 as well and my c70 has a 1.7 crop as well and it works well!
What cameras do you recommend
When creating content for Social Media do you shoot the videos horizontally and crop them after?
I always shoot horizontal
Great video Bobby. Main question I have is how much should you charge for highlight tapes, team documentaries etc.
Thank you! I will be making a video on pricing soon, but make sure you factor in your ediitng time, shooting time, and travel
Would an A7rii be a good budget option for sports videography ?? I want to upgrade to a better autofocus but the a7iii is a little out of my price range?
I would highly recommend looking at used cameras on eBay. Look for a canon Eos R or used A7iii. I honestly don’t know much about the A7rii
Hey. I saw that you recommended the sony a6400 to a few people on here. How do you think that it compares to the Canon eos r10
edit: Also where would you recommend to look for used cameras
TBH I don't know a ton about the EOS r10, but since its newer that might be the better option. The A6400 is pretty old now, but is still a great camera. I have always used ebay and it works great
when you first start filming and “practicing” do you need to ask for permission if it’s okay to record a team? Ex. If I go and record one team do I need to inform the opposing team that I am recording ? I know some ppl get annoying when they see a camera
i think its always best to ask permission. If you are filming for one team I'd say its probably best to just film them and not film the other team too much. Game action is fine but the opposing team probalby wouldn't want you filming their warmups or huddles
What are some of the best cameras that you recommend for beginners on a budget?
A used sony A7III and used sony a6400
Do you color grade or shoot on standard camera settings..?? Thanks
I shoot in Log and then color grade while editing. I use a conversion lut to convert from LOG to Standard colors (Rec. 709)
Bobby, how in the heck to you expose C-log 3. your Video looks good coming from Canon.
I actually shoot mostly in Clog 2 but for Clog it’s the same principle of exposure and then a lot of the work is done in color grading
Step 1.. Get a good camera… so which one to buy for filming soccer ? With good focus etc
depends on your price range
Definitely depends on price. Look at used A7IIIs or A6400s with a telephoto lens
Hey! Just wondering how much you would charge people for videos. Thanks
What youtuber should I watch if I use FCPX?
Also good vid!
I know Daniel schiffer has some good FCPX stuff but besides that not sure. Most of the stuff that I cover should be able to be done in FCPX tho
Bobby, I've got a question. Do you film landspace in 4k and crop it vertical in post, or do you film purely vertical if you know it's going on social media? What works the best in your workflow? Thank you!
I always film it horizontal in 4k and then crop it in post if needed. Id rather have the wide footage and crop in than film vertical and not have the option
@@thebobbymedia Thank you!
for sports is there a big difference in 4k 30 fps then 4k 60 fps?
4k 60 lets me slow it down in the edit whereas 30fps would have to be played back at real time
Do you think a canon m50 can get the job done for sports videography
Yes definitely!
What lens do you recommend
What are the settings to film everyone in focus?
If you want to get more people in focus you need to increase the aperture
@@thebobbymedia thank you
aint its 60 fps for sports
I use both 60fps and 120 fps
Thank you
