W tips bro, well shot and great info.
Thank you so much for making this video. As a newish videographer trying to get started in football content, it isn’t that easy finding the right video with all the information you need to be successful. I hope to see more like this. ❤
thanks for your advice!
Great video. Thank you!
Been shooting little league football the last 2wks all these tips are super accurate bro I appreciate it
Fresh edit my guy! Ya talk a little fast but the authenticity was 💯. I’ll check back soon. 🤙🏻
I just ran across your channel and as a fellow sports photography TH-camr, congratulations on some great content. Also, I'm moving from 15 years of sports still photography experience and expanding into sports video productions. Your videos have helped me in that journey. Thanks!
awesome vid man, very well done
Great tips!
Good stuff bro! Couple things. You will need a Neutral Density filter to bring your exposure down in bright sunlight. Especially if you are sticking to the double shutter speed "rule", which brings me to the next thing. You can break the double shutter speed rule. If you want your subject to be extra smooth, extra buttery, extra unrealistic, feel free to bring your shutter higher than double your frame rate. I do it with basketball with 60 fps and 200 shutter speed just because these basketball players are often moving really fast and throwing the ball around really fast. If you want to slow your footage down and get a really close up shot of the ball flying through the air, the ball will be blurry at only double the frame rate
All facts!!
I was just about to type this, the 180 rule is more for film while with sports (well for basketball) you wanna crank that shutter.. Everything else was perfectly illustrated.
This is helpful. Thanks my guy!
Preciate the 🔥🔥 content bro!! Very informative!!
Glad I could help!
Great video! You did a great job in explaining your points! Keep up the good work.
I appreciate the support!
Man... Just.... Thank you. this was very informative man, I appreciate it!!!

This is and has been the best video I’ve watched. I look at a lot of sports videographers pages. But you my guy has been the most informative.
Than you for the support! It truly means a lot.
Good stuff man thank you.
Thank you for this vid. Much needed
No problem 👍
I’m getting ready also to start shooting football games and maybe high school basketball but the thing is right now I’m just trying to make sure I have the perfect camera and I like the way you explained everything highly thinking about getting this one or the canon
Great advice 👍 keep it up
Great fkn content, the quality of this video is A+
Dope! Subbed

If you ain’t subscribing you missing out!! Dude post straight 🔥
There is no point in a 100-400 on Friday night games lol alot of schools don't have great stadium lights
Okay buddy
such an underrated channel
Loved the video, question though how long does it take you to make your money back on expensive lenses? And also how many games do you shoot a month?
Nice! Thanks for the tips! Would you recommend shooting vertical or normal landscape for video? I know lots of people want the vertical look for instagram but I feel like horizontal gives better results?
As someone who is a professional most definitely is equipment for sure
dawg i swear!!!!! i wanted the professional look for so long thinking ima get it with a dslr😂 silly me . but i started renting some sony gear and my god….. what a difference bro lol . Dtv definitely knows what he’s talking about
Good stuff
Great video! Have you ever used the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K? The price is great if the quality is there
Great video all around and nice work. My question is, if your filming 120p at 4k, what is your usual game-long file size? Im assuming you need close to 300gb, maybe more.
I don't usually record the entire game. I record play-by-play. If there are any dead plays, I delete the footage. I typically end with about 100 GB of files.
just found this video randomly and this is good as hell, got a question for ya, you record in 4k or 1080?
I appreciate the support! When I’m using my Sony A1 J record all my videos in 4K 120. When I use my A73 I record in 1080 120.
Hey man I use the Sony Zv-E10. It's definitely a little bit limiting but it still works for practicing shots and game recaps! I just video my brother's high school team!
Regardless of what you start with, as long as you’re projecting your craft.
@@DTVprods. 👌🔥
Cool
You only need one lens: Sigma 60-600mm on Sony. However that's a lens I dont have. Could I do well with a Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8?
How do you get started in football or track videography?
So the R6 shoots in 1080p 120 and 4k60, isn’t it more worth to shoot 4k60 so i can crop vertically for reels and whatnot while also being able to edit in full 4k horizontally?
Shoot 1080p 120. You'd rather have more frames when it comes to shooting sprots. Also, when posting to IG, 4K gets chopped anyway.
I disagree on keeping things at 180 degree shutter rule. Overcranking is a common practice in sports videography. This helps get super crisp/almost jittery footage, which when you slow it down keeps the frames crisp. Play with it, I really like what overcranking looks like.
Yeah I definitely agree. I teach the general rule as a starting guide. Everything in this field is all about it creativity. I even know some creators who shoot sports in 24fps for certain unique shots.
Is the canno 70-200 a good lens
What backpack do you use?
Good take away for me was stop standing up while shooting. I will try shooting sitting down or kneeling.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
With football videos, BREAK the shutter rule! S Log 3 at 60fps or 120fps and shutter at 1/400 and apature of f/4. Definitely invest in a 70-200 or in my case the Tamron 75-180mm. With most other video work I do stick to the shutter rule (double the frame rate), but, with football it looks even better when you break the rules. Just my opinion.
I definitely agree that depending on editing style or what you’ll be using the video for, breaking the shutter rule is ok. But for beginners learning, they should definitely stick to the basics and work their way from there.
Do you think you need a gimbal to shoot video? Shooting my first football game. I'm fine with taking pictures but first for video. Using a r6
No gimbal needed. Just sit down (or kneel) and keep yourself balanced while filming.
When you did use your Canon M50 with your 70-200 did you use a viltrox speedbooster with it?
It was a 75-300 I believe, but yes I did. Speedbooster helpoed a lot.
you think a telephoto lens with a variable aperture would work for beginners ?
Definitely!
Do you think the new Sony FX30 is a good camera for Football recording?
I have no in field experience with that camera, but based of off what I just researched, it will work. However, you will be limited. It is a crop sensor what plays a major part in how your lenses look. Other than that, it seems fine.
Would you recommend the R7 from canon?
It’s a crop sensor, for that price with Sony, you can go a73 and get full frame.
what focus mode do you use with Sony?
Spot Focus
I think since your giving out excellent tips, your main focus was CAMERA, Camera is key, you mentioned shutter but what about White Balance, ISO all these are key settings and need to be mentioned, Let's mention ALL settings on the Camera that are important, also show us your BEST QUICK response Focus setting that you use on your camera to get the fastest response for those that might be using Auto Focus, other than that Great Video.
Great suggestion! I will do an updated video on this topic with more in-depth settings.
Thank you.
Do you use manual focus or autofocus with video?
Auto Focus always!
hey bro what do you edit on?
Sony Vegas
Do you think a stabilizer is needed?
Go Handheld or Tripod. Only go handheld if you're confident in your stability or if it works better for you.
Hey what PP profile do you use
For day time I use Slog 3 and for night time I use PP 4 or 5
@@DTVprods. thank you
Which backpack is that??
Peter Mckinnon Travel pack
How about baseball? Have you ever done baseball before?
Definitely! Video for that is on my channel
I thought the sport was football jeez
Bro What is your email ?
Damonyoung@dtvprods.com
Very good advice. I work for a TV station in Philly and I shoot Eagles games but I’m using my ENG camera. I do however shoot my son’s football games with my Sony A7iii. I would add a couple more suggestions. Don’t nobody look at me sideways on this one 🤣 You can go get a pack of Depends that look like boxer shorts. If you think you are gonna need to use the bathroom during a game make sure to put on some depends before you hit the field. You can take a leak right in your shorts or pants and nobody will even know lol! No pee stains on your pants will show through. I laughed when someone told me to do it but it makes sense. The other tip along with hand warmers in the cold months is get some battery operated heated gloves. I have some and depending on the setting will last 2-6 hours. The ones I have can be charged with a portable power bank too. The hand warmers are cool but those heated gloves are even better.
