      Yes but you are not reading my question.. For what? What would I add corn powder for? Christina doesn't use it in several demonstrations of her own recipe and does in some occasions.. So again I ask you, why do you feel it is needed? What does it bring to the table, explain?

    • @Lotilumirie

  • @jennyh5641

    Just a tip to anyone who is considering making this pie - the extra step of crumbling the oatmeal cookie and reshaping it into the pie crust is excessive and not necessary. You're just adding more butter and sugar to the already fattening recipe and making more of a mess than needed. Just shape the oatmeal cookie dough into the pie tin and bake it as you would bake the cookie. When you remove it from the oven, the crust is ready to go.

    • @shirisheep1938
      @shirisheep1938 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jenny H hey Jennie ! All the videos i watched such far are saying it’s an important step the crumbling of the oatmeal, where u get that extra taste or whatever .. though personally I would prefer not not to ( excessive calories ) I’m afraid to ruin a wining flavor

    So the cream, milk powder and 4 egg yolks, you tell us how much but with the sugars the amount doesn't matter? And does that go for the crust too? Instead of putting someone down you could have explained that.

    Why did you lowered the cream ingredients by half? Did you have any issues with the original amounts?

    • @Steve-Owens
      @Steve-Owens  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'll find many versions of this online, "trust me" and even several different versions put up by the Milk Bar, you have to try them all and you'll see some are inaccurate. That's what I do for you all and then using logic and total failures you'll kind of work out that some are just plain wrong.
      This happens time and time again with Online Recipe. I am working on a Recipe now that almost every online version is just not thought through. I try to sort out that chaff, I never put up a Recipe that isn't calculated correctly. That way if someone says it doesn't work, I don't even have to review the Video, I know it does.
      So in Answer, which ever Recipe you're referring to, it's almost certainly wrong.

    • @mir0mik
      @mir0mik 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steve's Kitchen Hi Steve, I'm referring to this one -
      th-cam.com/video/X3YbTyx1Wko/w-d-xo.html (recipe starts around 2:40)
      In your version almost all ingredients match except the amounts in the "cream", where the sugars and yolks are cutted in half...

    • @Steve-Owens
      @Steve-Owens  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's really funny that you mention that Clip, because I did type in my Earlier Reply but decided not to get too specific.. That the Example on the Internet of Christina making this with Martha Stewart was a good example of how Online shows often don't share their mistakes. What happens is they film the making of... ! suddenly realise they screwed up. and just adjust the Amounts behind the scenes and plunder on, leaving the Viewer entertained but the home cook frustrated. On youtube you can't get away with that Nonsense.. At least you shouldn't but many do.
      You'll notice in that Video right at this point > th-cam.com/video/X3YbTyx1Wko/w-d-xo.html the Pie Base mix is barely enough to make a single base, where as a few minutes later they are spreading out a Huge amount of cookie dough on the tray ???? Also the amount that comes out of the Oven is not the amount that she states earlier. The first ingredients listed, could not cover 2 pie cases.. and so it continues..
      These clips are not Recipes you can use, they are smoke and Mirrors that Martha and her team use to get a show, completely useless for cooking and I have seen it time and time again of hers and other shows.. Do I need to go on ?? Trust me if you follow that Recipe it will fail, big time. This is Steve's Kitchen.. I like to entertain but I also feel it's wrong to cheat your viewers. If you share a Recipe it really should work as well as entertain.. I hope
      All the best Steve

    • @mir0mik
      @mir0mik 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve's Kitchen Hi Steve, thanks for the reply. I know how it works on internet that was the reason why I was asking (not to undermine you) I was just curious if you tested the "original" version an it failed and you adjusted... The information what I was expecting was like - it was too watery, or it was too egg flavour, or it won't cook...
      I've followed the original and it wasn't too bad but newer sit properly, now when I found your version I will try it...
      BTW - one more thing - did you ever try to add lemon/lemon zest to the "cream" I can imagine as good fit...

    • @Steve-Owens
      @Steve-Owens  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry but that Recipe she shows in that video, is 100% incorrect and won't work, Christina gives the same Recipe on two other TV Shows and they greatly different but the one the Martha show has been poorly edited and is not even Christinas Recipe.
      I always try many versions of a Recipe before I make my final one for my show, what you see is the results of many failed attempts and calculated common food sense. Don't worry, you're not undermining me, you ask good questions and I never bait on questions unless I feel they add something to the channel. Lemon by the way would be nice, cinnamon, nutmeg too but in this case it wouldn't give the right experience.. I'll leave this now, I think we have covered all the bases and I have heaps to do and many hundreds of comments to reply to.

  • @natlongrox

    Oatmeal cookie with a ton of eggs, butter, and sugar; or a chess pie with an oatmeal crust. $44 for that? You people are crazy. Get some old southern cook to make you a chess pie for $3 and get just as easily addicted.

  • @d.lawrence5670
    @d.lawrence5670 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Christina Tossi's a hack. That's why all "comments are disabled" on her videos. She can't make a custard pie or cake NEARLY as good as any of my Southern aunts desserts, but she has the nerve to sell you a $44 pie or a sliver of pie for $6 bucks or a $44 "naked" cake just so you have the privilege of seeing the layers! If this pie didn't have a stupid gimmicky name and wasn't associated with the great David Change, if this pie was just sold in some unknown black bakers' shop, it would have the zero hype it deserves.

    • @Steve-Owens

    So she "invented" a sugar pie(which has been around forever in different parts of the world) with a basic oatmeal cookie crust(also not an original creation). She almost certainly wasn't the first person to make a sugar pie with an oatmeal cookie crust. Probably not even close. There have been all sorts of sugar pie crust variations, even some with no real crust at all, where the bottom and side of the filling caramelize to forn it's own "crust". Looks like maybe this chick is just a narcissist who didn't even consider that perhaps it wasn't so original

    • @irishshamrock3025
      @irishshamrock3025 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Christina Tosi is one of the most well known bakers that exists lmao.... if you think this is just your ordinary sugar pie, so be it.... but she gave it a measured recipe and a name that has taken off like a rocket. Deal with it jealous weirdo.

      Sorry, but i didn't invent chocolate chip cookies because my personal recipe has measurements and I give it a name.
      This chick didn't invent sugar pie, which is a classic depression pie
