That's the way it is with me too on many of his vids. I always focused on the tune first. The message was secondary so I missed the meaning in many of them. Sad Eyes, for example by Robert John. Great tune. The message is telling a woman he's cheating with to wipe her eyes and split because his wife is coming back home.

I lived in Sheffield when they were getting famous ,along with heaven 17 and ABC and you would see them in the clubs My claim to fame was doing a women’s self defence course with Susan and Joanne ( the two female singers ) very Yorkshire , very funny , was great ! I’m not sure if you look here ,but their track “ Louise” is lovely and shows Phil Oakeys bass voice off so well
