      Jose Quiros Just to confirm - this works on the JKU? I was about to pull the trigger on a used oem top but really want the fastback option. Do you have any pics of your 4 dr in topless mode?

    Nice video. If you first unbuckle the front header and fold back the front section of the top, the back window will zip up much easier by not having any tension. I still have issues with the side windows not sealing around the door surrounds. I have had the exact top since 2012.

    I just got my jeep and it came with that top. I was ready to return it because I want the topless feel. Thank you soooo much for your video! I have a question. Inside the jeep in the middle of the top where the middle speakers are, there are 2 black straps that you're suppose to clip...what is it for??

    • @Espo78
      @Espo78  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      nathalie fournier the black straps are what is mostly securing the top to the jeep. Since it is a frameless top it’s is required. If you get the top in the “topless” position shown in the video and then undo those straps and the door surround clips you can completely remove the top. Hope that helps!

    I assume you get this question a lot so I'm sorry if I'm being repetitive. I have a 2016 JKU and am looking to buy a soft top this spring. I'm having a hard time deciding to go fastback or framed soft top. I want the ability to go full top less and I understand the fastbacks still can. If I care a lot about being able to go top less, which would be the better choice. Hope to hear back from you and any impute from people is also appreciated.

    Espo, off topic but the white wheels looks awesome. I found your thread ont he forums and got some of the 15" from Vintiques, I know you have 33x12.5x15 Duratracs on it but I love the stance, do you have a lift in the front as well? I seriously sold my grey jku and bought a white JK just so I could pull off a similar look, now it's time to bite the bullet and put the stuff on :)

    • @Espo78
      @Espo78  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BigRidiculous the only lift I had on that Jeep was springs off of a JKU rubicon. 17/59 if I remember correctly. It was about a 1.5” lift I think.

    Finally pulled the trigger on a trektop nx thanks to this video. Question... Can you flip the sunrider back in bikini mode, or is that basically taking the top halfway off? I can't imagine there's anything to hold it forward, so I'm not sure.

    • @Espo78
      @Espo78  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can flip it back. You will either have to tighten the rear straps to add tension to the top or roll the rear forward like I've shown in the video. I've found that the rear will flap at higher speeds and sometimes the straps come loose no matter how much you tighten them. Also don't flip the sunrider forward with the straps tightened or it will rip the top. The top is secured with 2 straps that go around the soundbar.

    My Trektop for my TJ is just a glorified cab cover. Can't do any of this. Looking for a different top now.

    • @Espo78
      @Espo78  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Goodell If you don't have the NX then you are missing out. The Trektop NX adds the sunrider feature and removable windows. On the TJ version I don't think you can roll the back up like on the JK though because the TJ sunrider covers the entire back half when it is open.

  • @bgriff2517

    • @Espo78
      @Espo78  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kristen Richtarik Some people have tried on the unlimited and due to the length of the arms on the unlimited, the sunrider folds back further. You can still roll up the rear and gain a few inches of sunlight between the sunrider top and the sport bar, but not the same as the 2 door.

    Great input! How would you suggest storing the windows? I also have a 2 door and removed the back seat. I have been laying them as flat as possible (folding the corners up) underneath a tub mat and then just replacing the rear window into the lower channel and laying it in the back

    • @Espo78
      @Espo78  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      RogueJK I just leave my windows at home most days. I have laid them flat in the back of the Jeep a few times for a day of wheeling and I haven't noticed any scratching or anything on the windows.

  • @jdde013
    @jdde013 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is great, really clears things up. I have one question. Do the side and rear windows have a hard edge? On my factory soft top I like to roll the windows up so I can keep them with me. Would that be possible with this Trektop NX?

    • @Espo78
      @Espo78  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a hard piece of plastic that runs along the inside of the side windows towards the back. That's what gives it rigidity for the slant back shape. You can remove them but I never bother. I usually leave my windows at home.

  • @hcamardelle
    @hcamardelle 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can one open the "sun rider" portion of the top and then remove only the rear window. I like cruising with the side windows left on, although it appears to be a very simple operation to remove them as well. I guess my question is whether you are forced to go either full top or bikini top. Thanks in advance!

    • @Espo78
      @Espo78  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Howard Camardelle Yes you can do that. I did it once but didn't really see the point in it. It's also difficult to put the rear window back in, in that scenario because the side windows are tucked into the rails so you can't use the trick I show at the end of the video to reconnect the side and back windows.

  • @mickmc1705
    @mickmc1705 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    very nice tips..however will it work or roll up for my 4 door if i want it completely open? Also can anyone give any tips as for which brand i should go with? NX,rampage,or offroad heroes? thanks

    • @Espo78
      @Espo78  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lucas McCoy It does not work the same on the 4 door. You can roll it up but the rear seat is still partially covered by the top. Of your 3 choices the NX is the most popular. Rampage doesn't have a sunrider, and the ORH is custom made with a few month wait. I'm not a fan of all the separate panels they use.

    • @mickmc1705
      @mickmc1705 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate your reply back and info. Is there any brand of a fastback top like the nx that folds completely down and easily stored in a short amount of time like the soft top that comes stock?

    • @Espo78
      @Espo78  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lucas McCoy The design of the fastback style eliminates all of the metal framework that the factory top has. This means that it won't fold completely back as quickly as the factory top. I can't speak for the 4 door, but in my video, when I have the sunrider back and the rear portion rolled up, I'm about 30 seconds from having the top completely removable. There are 2 straps around the sound bar to undo and you need to unhook the springs that connect to the bracket behind the door surrounds and the sunrider quick disconnects. After that, the top can come completely off. Putting it back on is more challenging, but still can be accomplished in 20 minutes or less.

      +SkylerBMills The short answer is no. Due to the location of the sunrider arms on the JKU it falls back further over the rear passengers. you can roll up the rear under it still but the rear passenger area is still mostly covered up by the sunrider. When you flip it back you will see where it is.

      @theogeo14 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I am getting ready to buy a top for my 2009 Wrangler Sahara but want to be able to fold the top all the way to the back of the vehicle. Do you know if you can do this with the Trektop?

    • @Espo78
      @Espo78  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Theo Geo the Trektop does not have a frame like the standard top as you can see in the video. It does not fold back all the way. However you can remove it easily. After rolling it up like I showed you in the video just undo 2 straps around the sound bar and unclip the sunrider bows and the whole thing comes right off. It sounds like you might be happier with a standard top though.

    • @Espo78
      @Espo78  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 4 door is designed differently and does t work as well as a 2 door when rolling the rear portion forward. It works but it leaves most of the rear passenger area covered.

    Anyone have this top for the 4 door? Is it a pain to completely remove? Also, when removed are you able to stow it inside the jeep easily? Really like the look of this top but if I can't take it completely off and be able to put it back on in case of bad weather I would rather go with the traditional style. I haven't seen any videos on TH-cam of people showing if this too can be removed and stowed.

    awsume video! I Jut picked up a 2007 Rubicon 2 door. It needs a new top. among other things. I have I believe to be factory 1/2 doors. I've heard some say this Trektop NX will & wont work? does anybody know it this top will work for me?

      Hey Dan the top will work with factory half doors no problem. It includes new door surrounds just like a factory top. Hope that helps!

    Hey all, just installed on my TJ. Is it just me, or do the quick release pins sit back a lot further away from the header on the TJ? When I flip my sunrider back, the top reaches almost to the back of the rear rollbars. Whereas in this video with a JK, the header only comes back the the sound bar.
    Anyone else familiar with what I'm talking about? Thanks!

      You are correct. Different designs for the different models.

      Espo78 thanks! Are there any methods you know of to replicate this on the TJ? The "leave top on" but have it "gone" method?

    How much do this bestop go for? Do you know if the other frameless tops like rampage and smittybuilt can go full top less like the bestop?

      Unfortunately I have no experience with tops other than the factory top and the Trektop so I can't answer your question.

    Just finished watching the trektop pro installation on bestop's page. It makes me suspect we can't quite use his "topless" trick. There is now a retainer clip on the portion of the top that is above the windows. However, it's not hard plastic so it may not be a total loss.

      Tony Love From what I've seen of the Trektop PRO there are lot of pieces to it, and it's not really meant to be a "top down" kind of top. Maybe there are tricks to it that will be figured out once more people own it but it just seems overly complicated to me. My NX fits all my needs perfectly.

    Anybody know what kind of cargo box this guy has?

      Hi, it's the Mopar Instatrunk. It's made of plastic and I'm pretty sure they do not make it anymore. However Bestop still makes a version of it, that I believe is made of metal. Hope that helps!

    How do attach the two center straps inside the 2 holes in sound bar

    • @scottydvintagevideos
      @scottydvintagevideos 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First allow a little slack on both straps before attempting to attach the clips to the sound bar. Second, grasp the clip between your thumb & index finger & place it vertically inside the hole. Slide the clip on the edge of the metal round hole in a horizontal position (palms up) until the the metal round edge of the hole is snug inside the clip. These center clips will not "snap" into place. They only stay snug around the hole. Take the slack out of the straps after the clips are installed. Hope this helps somewhat.

    It looks great but dont forget to mention you STILL have the bow bar above your head. .....AND you put the window panels on the ground OUT of your Jeep so you're screwd if it rains. They dont roll up due to the hard plastic inside them so stashing inside JEEP may be non existent. These points are what sold me on the OEM soft top. The Bows are not just for extra storage people. There's reasons JEEP sells the style they do. Fastbacks look good but are not too practical for New England or places where the weather changes pretty sudden. ....and I'm constantly checking weather on my phone btw.
    ....your milage may vary.

      I run a spiderwebshade under the trek top so I never really notice the bar at all. If it does bother you it takes about 10 seconds to pop it out. I also have a duster cover that I usually run when the windows are out. I rarely bring the windows with me but they would stow nicely under the duster if I wanted to bring them. I never rolled up my factory windows either, fwiw.

      You can actually roll up the trek top windows pretty easily. The back is simple of course, but with the sides, you can take out the hard plastic and then roll up with ease. It helps to mark the plastic so you don't forget which way they go. Easy to stow if you have a JK under the rear seat. Have to get a little more creative with TJ/LJ. There's a video here on the Tube showing how it's done.

    What are the black bars below the windows?

    • @Espo78
      @Espo78  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are part of the Bestop Highrock Overhead Rack, which is no longer made. It's a great rack system that is easily removable. I used it to haul my kayaks and it was perfect because I could remove the top bars and still get my Jeep in the garage.
