    As someone who is born and raised in Hawaii and is also part Hawaiian, can I just say THANK YOU for telling visitors to respect the land. This was a great video to watch! But I do want to mention that our rivers, ponds, and streams will often have leptospirosis in them because we have a lot of wild boars here, so please be careful if you do fill a bottle with our water.

      My coworker got it, not fatal but like having a nasty flu! Thank you for watching and the nice comment.

    • @christopherturco197
      @christopherturco197 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@TheHawaiiVacationGuide Leptospirosis can be fatal if not treated early. Sometimes goes undiagnosed because symptoms are so similar to the flu. It's best not to underestimate its seriousness. Not acquired only by drinking contaminated water, Can also be contracted through open sores/cuts.

    Lanikai Pillbox Hike was surprising difficult for me, but I think it was mostly due to a combination of recovering from a cold, eating a heavy breakfast, and wearing bad shoes not good for the steep sandy rocks. I even specifically bought a pair of Chacos but didn’t use them for the hike because it didn’t match my outfit. Lesson learned!

    • @TheHawaiiVacationGuide
      @TheHawaiiVacationGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a good climb to the top! Good shoes help a lot. Thanks for sharing and try it again on the next trip with the Chacos.

    I'm so happy to find your site. We missed Oahu this December. My wife and I have spent about 20 weeks in Hawaii over the last 5 years, mostly in Oahu. We have only been to 3 of your 6 with Diamond Head the most times. In my 70s but still can do Diamond head in about 30 minutes. Thanks for the very informative and well done video. Hope to come back soon. Aloha.

    I love to hike Hawai'i's trails in Tevas, where appropriate. There is zero heal lift. They are perfect for shallow stream crossings.
    In the '70s I climbed up the outside of Diamond Head.

      Trip Advisor lists Mānoa Falls Trail to be easy. My husband and I took this upward hike and to my memory there was only place that had a larger rock to get above and it might have been 2 feet in height. Otherwise it was very beautiful and it was a breeze. I was 61 at the time. 🌴 🌺 🌈

      @JessicaKissinger88 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I feel like if you’re outside and literally NO ONE is around, pull your mask down to breathe a bit easier. But as soon as you see or hear someone else hiking, be polite and pull your mask back up over your mouth and nose. It takes very little effort to respect others and be aware that traveling to Hawaii, especially during a pandemic, is a major privilege. 💕

The most challenging part of the hike is balancing over those rails with the drop underneath! It is a short hike with an amazing view up top.
