AMS1 in my opinion is prolly the most intuitive and believable physics and driving experience for some reason. I wonder if this is objective or subjective. However, Reiza deserves support, they never stop listening to community and improving their product.
There will always be an element of subjectivity, because every car is different in real life, and every sim setup is different for example. But I think it's fair to say AMS has nailed the realism in so many areas. And yes, we agree! They have been brilliant with updates and development 🙂
When setting steering lock for a 90s F1 car in a sim consider that the default settings are based on real settings from the real cars and these would have been influneced by the lack of power steering in a fairly high downforce car. So teams would have set the ratio slower to bring the forces down to tolerable levels for the driver. Therefore it's no wonder you would find these deaults odd if you are used to modern GT3 car steering in sims or similar. Edit: I fully agree with your feeling about the physics differences between the games. In AMS2 I can find time by doing things I really shouldn't be able to, depending on the car the issues are bigger ro smaller. But AMS1 just has my favorite physics of any racing game. You feel everything, but it does not hesitate to bite you when you overstep.
Automobilista Ultimate edition is super cheap on Steam at the moment while Automobilista 2 is twice the price for just the base game... That should help some decisions.
More sims need this. With Content Manager, they have something similar where you can share a setup for everyone to see and comment. It's brilliant, but the uploads are pretty sparse sadly. There's day where I want to try out a car and drive for some fun without spending hours dialing in a setup.
Excellent and fair comparison! AMS 1 had you grinning constantly whilst AMS 2 looked like it was gently leaching your will to live without you realizing. lol
Good video dude, stumbled on it purely by chance. Don't have AMS myself so can't say anything about the direct comparison. Was gonna mention the setup downloading but see that AMS2's resident alien THE NEMESIS 69 already mentioned how to do that in Time Trial mode (Hi NEMESIS btw). Only points I can disagree with you on is that AMS2 isn't a casual sim (again as NEMESIS pointed out), just different... Regarding the handling and feel mid corner the default FFB is "good enough" but not great (Still better than PC2/3 based on my own PC2 playtime and friends who bought PC3 and regret it). This is where my final disagreement comes from, there ARE mods out there for AMS2 just not many atm. E.G. race department currently lists 78 liveries and 32 miscellaneous mods, most importantly there's some great FFB mods that MASSIVELY improve the feeling from the FFB. I'm currently using a T300RS GT and was "happy enough" on default after adapting to the game but after being harangued to at least TRY one of the mods I installed Karsten's Sliver Raw v6-5-5-51 which you can get on Reiza forums here forum.reizastudios.com/threads/automobilista-2-custom-force-feedback-overview-recommendations.11135/page-104 (post #2065) with a direct link to the download. This dl provides 3 profiles for low end (Logitech G-series and TM T-series wheels), mid level (Fanatec CSW/CSL plus low end DD's) and high end (DD1/2 and Simucube et al), just copy the default to your desktop (as a backup) rename the original file and drag n drop the chosen file into AMS2 documents folder, fire up the game and in settings change FFB from default to custom and you're good to go. There's even a few cars to be found out there but I have no CLUE as to their "legitimacy" bearing in mind Sim Dream's reaction to Simracing 604's claims they stole others work or just copy/pasted files from other games and the subsequent reaction from the masses. These guys did mods for PC2 but again no idea on the legitimacy... projectcarsmoddingteam.weebly.com/downloads---automobilista-2.html They're a bit more work to install (apparently) but they at least work and there are more planned...
Nice video John! With the loading other people’s setups you have to load the ghost and then click spanner next to their name. Got to disagree about causal sim racer game tbh I’m not your average casual racer and I’m pretty sure I could show the best so called drivers a thing or two 😜 Ams2 requires time to adapt and this will be the best all round game on the market as it’s getting better every update
Thanks for pointing that out! That was an overlook on my part, I gave up after trying for a few minutes. I can see you have loads of world records on AMS2 so I’m sure you would smash it on any sim! I just feel AMS2 is slightly more accessible for people trying to get into sim racing, which I think is a really good thing. I’m sure the driver base on it is as strong as any other sim at the top level 😎
Crew chief's VR plugin has breathed fresh life into AMS1. The lack of mod support for AMS2 is it's big downfall for me, I hate to support developers who go down the route of no modding tbh, smacks of greed, personally I will still buy their in house built DLC, if modding is allowed, it's usually some of the best quality, for example I bought each and every one of AC's DLCs when they came out.
could be because of the engine ?!?! some engine is as easy as to drop some file, and other need 3rd party apps mod manager (like GTA V or Fifa), and some need plugin and overall modification to the game (i tried RBR and their community mods is like downloadin the whole game+mod)
with AMS1 u get more real feeling in ur wheel (not perfect and depending on the car used) and mods, with ams2 you get better slightly (mad) improved graphics and some improved feeling respect pc2... Consider that both sims have not stunning online number of players... not good for a new sim as ams2... But the best feeling in ur wheel? only with rfactor 2! (also you have to select the good cars).
excellent video I never played the original game but have recently been playing Automobilista 2, I am really struggling with losing the rear end & having no chance to save it, as when it lets go its totally unexpected I know i am not the best of drivers so it will more than likely be me at fault :(
Both games have there pluses / and negatives.AMS2 is still suffering from things that plagued PC2,i know reiza have done there best to 'cure' alot of these. Regarding the FFB in AMS2 dont forget on the race setup screen you can adjust the FFB for each car.
I also noticed that an uphill turn will always SPIN the CAR ! hmmm. And how is it that the AI at 80% are all faster than me in a straight ?? AMS1. I have found AMS 1 exactly as you have described, especially the Non Searchable Button assignments (maddening). For these reasons I will likely give AMS2 a shot. Do you have to use Steam ? It has to be better simply for the interface right ? Thanks again world record holder ! I raced Montreal and really liked it (in the SIM).
Would you mind posting your FFB and Wheel settings for Automobilista 1 here? I recently bought Automobilista and the FFB is just a bloody mess for me. It feels really crappy and I don't know what to change about it.
This was a while ago now, but for me I didn't change anything other than the steering lock and steering rotation settings in the car setup screen. All of the other in game options were left at default and my logitech profiler settings you can see at 3:18. Is it a Logitech you are using or something else? Normally, TH-cam is a great source to find optimised force feedback settings for specific wheels, but I think there are less sources out there for ams than there are for ams2. I hope you get sorted soon, good luck! - John
Automobilista 2: Automobile Motorsports Simulator hence AMS2, I was as confused as you as well before but right after i read their title banner it all makes sense now.
A little odd that you'd criticize AMS1's UI because you could sense the ghosts of rFactor in it, and then heap praise on AMS2's UI as one of the best around when it is in fact a lazy and not even entirely finished reskinning of the Project Cars 2 UI. For example, when you set up a race, the information box has a field labeled 'DATE' that in fact shows your time progression multiplier instead, so it'll display something like "DATE: 10X", because they never bothered to fix that label since release. Furthermore, in Race Settings when setting up an event, if you mouseover the START TIME setting, it throws up a tooltip regarding AI Aggression levels because they clearly just copy-and-pasted the code from the other menu screen, and failed to remove the tooltip. They also recently expanded multiclass racing to allow for up to 10 car classes, but forgot to change the information displayed on that screen, which still states it only allows up to four. I don't dispute that the UI in AMS2 is generally clean and functional, but Reiza shouldn't receive praise for it because it wasn't their work, and they've actually been rather sloppy on their end with it.
Excellent and fair comparison! AMS 1 had you grinning constantly whilst AMS 2 looked like it was gently leaching your will to live without you realizing. lol

AMS has VR! As a mod (from the crew chief people) and it works BRILLIANTLY!

You can load rivals setups in AMS2 in time trial mode. Select the rival, load, then select rivals setup using the spanner logo.

Just on mods alone I would take AMS everyday of the week.
Automobilista 1 now has vr with mods
Definitely worth trying by the sounds of it!

Soooo ams2 is actually the actual project cars 3?
and project cars 3 ended up being NFS Shift 3, still arcady and having more resemblance to Shift than project cars 2

Start from default on AMS AND your wheel ... it's the more balanced sim out there ... it's plug and play 👍
Use the Default+ FFB to fix the mid corner FFB
