- Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport is an international airport in Soutr Nikom District, Siem Reap province which serves the city of Siem Reap, Cambodia. It is 18 km northeast of Damdek, 40 km east of Angkor Wat and 50 km east of Siem Reap. It is the largest airport in Cambodia.

The small airport in Sam Reap was perfect-ruined a good thing by closing it down.
Yes, it could have done the job for the next 50 years, but the Chinese wanted to come with bigger airplanes, which would make the profit from the chartertours way bigger.
To make that happen, the Chinese offered to pay for and build a new airport with a longer runway on a 55-year lease. The plan included a specific economic zone, where Chinese operated casinos and hotels could attract more travellers from China.
The new airport has 15 gates! Do you know any other end destinations in the world that have that many gates?
@@phnx4life you shouldn't comment when you don't know what you are talking about, cambodia wants more direct flights to attract more tourist which requires bigger planes which the old airport can't handle n plus there is the environmental concern for angkor wat

@@garybee858 The Red Chinese, do nothing, out of the goodness of their heart, there are always strings attached, this has been replicated across developing countries, in Africa and Asia , huge loans , for developments , promoted by Red China, for their ulterior motives, A prime example is Sri Lanka , which has defaulted on Red Chinese loans , So the Red Communists get payback by other means,
