Swing and miss on the High School. That was the Elementary school. The High School is huge and you drove right by the front it. Sign was in full view. That was the comedy part of the video for me.
The building you said was the new High School (at the 5 minute mark) is actually Brendel Elementary. The building on screen at 7:21 is the East building of two current High School buildings ( built around 1963). It's a nice video. Thanks for showing off the town.
We live in Grand Blanc and love -at one time there was a lot of farms in the area and at that time a great farmer’s market-Grand Blanc is a place you always feel safe-people are friendly and there is always plenty to do-thanks for doing a video of our wonderful and beautiful Grand Blanc
Great Video. Lived on the Belsay Rd back in the early 80s. Lots have changed. Looks like the big farm we lived on has been divided up, but across the street, the Eldin Auker Mansion still stands.
The joke about the name of the town gave me a real laugh! Quite the alumni list… looks like a real nice place. You’ve been on a streak of nice places to be lately. Another good one Chris. Thanks.
That stretch on Saginaw through town does have many fast food places, true. But it also has our long time local favorites, like Little Joes, Ziggy's, The Hot Dog Stand, and Crossbow. The parks are amazing and host family events all summer. Deer Park was removed to make room for the Walmart complex. I bought my home here in 1993 for $69k. Bishop Airport connects us to the entire globe, and is literally 10 minutes away, and allows us to avoid the mess of DTW. Great automotive jobs supply our sleepy bedroom community, and provides us with a standard of quiet living that 99% of the US cannot. God Bless you Chris, and God Bless Grand Blanc.
Beautiful little community, I admire you for highlighting "the good, the bad and the ugly" of communities in the upper Midwest. I hope you found the new pillow comfortable! 😉 Great video as always 👌
Grand Blanc Township has four times the population of Flushing Township which is mostly rural. Fifty years ago, Grand Blanc Township was similar. With its proximity to I-75, that allowed commuters who worked in Oakland County to live in the relatively cheaper Genesee County. Grand Blanc was, as far as I can remember, the wealthiest of the Flint suburbs and called the Bloomfield Hills or Grosse Pointe of Genesee County.
Superleuk om deze video te zien! Onze dochter woont als exchange student bij een lief gastgezin in Grand Blanc en door je video komt deze stad voor ons tot leven. ❤
Thanks for another great video Chris. Grand Blanc is a really nice suburb. Have fun trying to buy a house in this area! The get snapped up immediately. The only comments I have is that the GM Facility on Saginaw Rd is actually still operating as a staging facility with a minimal crew. There is also a plan for a large Technology Park out by Warwick Hills. I don't recall you mentioning that Golf Club. It used to draw huge crowds when the PGA Tour (Buick Open) came through annually. That stopped around 2009 and the community lost a lot of revenue as a result.
This burb and the nearby township look like really nice areas to live. Way to highlight some of Michigan's peak burbs Chris! I'd consider it if I was moving.
Grand Blanc was a wonderful place to grow up in. I left Michigan in 1992 and have many fond memories of the town from my childhood. Another excellent video, Chris.
Watching your video in my home in Grand Blanc township! Alot of changes on the way for the city so maybe you can come back again someday! Love living here! Love all the history and information about our great city! ❤
Grand Blanc has always had a bit more of the chain restaurant/retail than places like Fenton or even Holly. I grew up in Holly, and if you wanted to go to K-Mart or Kroger or even A&P, you went to GB. If you wanted antique shops as far as the eye could see, you went to downtown Holly. Halo Burger didn't even extend into Fenton/Holly at that time. We always kind of viewed GB as our rich neighbors. Hey, they had like THREE supermarkets. Big time, man. Big time.
I was born and raised in Flint, but moved away over 20 years ago, I'm now considering moving back to Michigan, but I don't want to live in Flint. I want to be somewhere close so that I can visit my mother and other family members, but live in a nice area. I'm glad I stumbled on your videos; I think they are going to be very helpful to me. Thanks! :)
Enjoyed this video, especially since I lived here for 25 years. It would have been nice to show Ascension Genesys hospital and Heritage Plaza, which contains Walmart, Kohls, Petsmart, Staples, and several smaller stores. There are wealthier neighborhoods in the township than the one you showed. It was nice to see my old church on Perry and Belsay. Thanks so much for touring Grand Blanc.
The problem with that is that if I were to include literally everything, the video would be 1 hour and 30 minutes long due to how spread out Grand Blanc Township is. People already complain about videos being slightly sped up too.
To that point, lots of what you showed was a redundancy of residential and rural. There is more to Grand Blanc that what you showed and it wouldn't have to be an hr long. Also some of the businesses mentioned would be more appealing to someone thinking of moving there. Those gave a more modern feel, important to many. There wasn't anything "new" that you included. You could have driven through the main town business area, showing one side then showing the other. Too bad it was when the trees were bare. A video about Grand Blanc would be much better served in a different season. I suppose that would be true of anywhere. I don't want to sound critical but I'd you're a full time TH-cam creator, I think these are tips for a better product. Having said all that, Grand Blanc is a bit dated but it is a nice community. I think it could have been showcased a little better.
Chris, it’s always interesting and relaxing to sort of live vicariously watching your videos. Even if it isn’t as if the areas are downtown Chicago, Paris, etc. I know you’ve been working your way through areas of Detroit and Flint, but I’d love to see some other random areas in Michigan. I grew up in Central Michigan in the small town of Harrison, but I spent a lot of time in Mount Pleasant, Midland, Clare, and Houghton Lake. I’ve lived in Florida for 25 years now, and very rarely get a chance to see those places anymore. It would be wild to take virtual drive through their streets.
Hmmm And all this time I thought Grand Blanc was named after a shark. Don't stop talking, your narration is one of the best parts of the video, lots of facts with just the right amount of humor.....
Love the videos. I live in the area and would like to know if ur considering checking out Fenton as I consider it one of the nicest places in genesee county.
My husband and I always say the same exact thing about the “downtown” area. There’s no village or historic vibe. It’s all just commercial. We frequently drive over to Holly & Fenton for that. It’s really too bad that some of Holly’s best downtown attractions caught fire. Wouldn’t mind all the fast food chains if they were actually open as late as they used to be lol.
@@GEN_X_ I’ve lived in many different place and traveled to many different places, even countries. Quit calling it Gibsonville. Everyone who gives a name to the point calls it Whigville. And the reason that GB doesn't have a cute little town center like Goodrich or Davison is that Saginaw Street has always been a major roadway; in fact it is part of what used to be called the Dixie Highway, which was a continuous route from Mackinaw to Florida. It was the main route to Pontiac and Detroit before the interstate system.
Apparently “The Point” at Dort and Saginaw was called Gibsonville at one time. Never knew that. I only have known it as Whigville, which, I think, is the more common name for it.
In your TH-cam video concerning Grand Blanc Michigan, you totally missed several other smaller historical places in Grand Blanc Township. Whiteville at Saginaw and Hill Rd. Area. Indian Hills. I am not cognizant of its exact location, but I believe it was Hill and Belsay area. You also missed the fact that Saginaw St through the area is also the origin of US 23 before the freeways were established in Michigan. At Saginaw and Maple area used to have an airport. Those are only some of the small details you missed. You also neglected the fact that Grand Blanc was originally a farming area. The reason for the need of increasing school size from the Perry Center was the expansion of the population in Grand Blanc Township. As in most places, small farms could not survive in the latter 1900's. Many of the farms were sold and became sub-divisions in the township. The schools quickly went from class D to class A schools. After 1950, there was a major influx of students. The students that moved into the Grand Blanc City area were the children of mostly Doctors, Lawyers or other higher paying jobs. They seemed to be very stuck up having an attitude of royalty, because their parents earned more than the factory workers and store clerks etc. that occupied the township. The thing that most of them were ignorant of or didn't care to agnolage, was they were further in debt as a families than those who attended the schools before them. The more rural students lived in homes that weren't as large or expensive as Warwick Hills. You know very little of Grand's History.
Wow. How long do you want a video on Grand Blanc, Michigan to be? 2 hours? Also, do you really want me to mention that Saginaw Street used to be U.S. Highway 23? Cmon now.

My wife & I lived on Brainard Street off Center Road for roughly 14 years, and we paid over $2100 in property taxes, one of the biggest reasons that we moved in 2019......it was just inside the city limits......

Grand Blanc spent many of years hanging out there I think every girl I dated was from there ha . I’m shocked they didn’t kick u out of the park guess it was all quiet there hope u was in a camper or truck with a bed in the back . Anyway grand blanc is very nice
Flint has a few Belvidere's. Grand Blanc, Davison and Flushing could all be compared to that. When you add in the population of the townships they're all about the same size as Belvidere.
One, you didn't show the other side of 75, that has some nice houses and The hospital. And two, after driving past dort hwy on Hill Rd, that becomes Mundy township. Go thru Mundy township and that becomes flint township, by name only of anything flint, even it's water coming from Swartz Creek, not flint.
The only way I would do a video on Durand would be something like where I would show multiple small towns in a single video, and it would be uploaded on my 2nd channel. Not sure when I'd get to doing something like that either.
Well… it’s flint. 🤷🏼♂️ The job market overall for the Flint metro is horrendous. Need to have somewhat of a concentration of high paying jobs if you’re going to have anything better. It’s affordable for the most part at least.
lol you went into Kirkridge subdivision. (Charing Cross Dr) but didn’t go to the back and you turned before you got to the newer 3000 sq ft plus homes. Plus you skipped McCandlish Rd Subs and why you didn’t show the former home of the PGA Tour Buick Open Warwick Hills Country Club is beyond me. You showed the very basic part of GB. I can go shoot a better example of Grand Blanc in 30 mins than this video. And even though I’m a huge tax paying resident of GB Fenton is way nicer. GB is in the decline. It couldn’t remain a hidden gem forever.
Originally it was “grawnd blonk” but no one could say it right- those who attempted it mumbled out “Grumlaw” which is still kind of a joke around here. I guess they gave up and Americanized it. Now we really do pronounce it “Graand Blangk” like people have stated above. Got to add that Michigan/Midwest nasal twang.

as a resident, you should know that basic fast foods of any types, mcdonalds, qdoba, etc, all have terrible service/quality.
My uncle was killed in that plant around 1971
Why doesn't the city and the township merge and become one city?
It would be nice if they would let me own chickens without owning 10 acres.
Grand Blanc doesn’t give the luxurious feel that it should
Well… it’s flint. 🤷🏼♂️ The job market overall for the Flint metro is horrendous. Need to have somewhat of a concentration of high paying jobs if you’re going to have anything better. It’s affordable for the most part at least.
It’s overrated. I lived there.
@@hughjhardon8080 same.
Sure it does in the nice area which there are many
Too close to Flint and the high paying jobs are gone .
what hes not telling you, is the HOOD is 3 miles north, and they come down to break in and rob the nicer communities
Yep. Actually, the hood is right there off Saginaw St. and along Dort Hwy.
Cap a lot of ppl in the hood moved out in grand Blanc
Cook Rd is literally falling apart into pieces. And I thought roads in IL were bad
Whitmer is going to fix the damn roads. Oh she gave that money to a Chinese factory in Marshall.
It’s in the 2025 budget
P.s. I saw my school in the background (holy family)
Yeah? Well, around here, we call GB "South Flint". If not this year, it will be within a decade. Saginaw St. is the culprit.
Schools of choice.
i live there
Grand Blanc township is over priced and some neighborhoods aren’t that great or super close to the Main Streets or industrial areas
Grand Blanc is decent it just look better then flint but half grand Blanc is flint
Enjoy your pillow.
Soon , Grand Blanc will be a cluster ( you know ) just like Fenton. Its already on a good roll. Sad. I loathe having to drive through either .
Sorry to busy winning state championships
lol you went into Kirkridge subdivision.
Your pronouncing it wrong it's (grand blaangk) not Grand Blank
intro leak
Flint suburb?!? Stop.
Hmmm IDK, I like Flint more. GB kinda blah.
It's pronounced "grawnd blonk" you numpty
Numpty eh? I’ll have to start using that one
@@ChrisHarden Yeah it's a good one to know!
I think it's actually UK slang, but I like to keep it in my arsenal of compliments.
I don’t know if you’re joking or not Pizza Earth, but I’m from Grand Blanc and he pronounced it correctly.
Grand blanc name is racist
thanks for using your gas and not mine !
Go to Fenton, Holly area
