My next visit, I hope we meet.
As someone who moved to connecticut 2 years ago or so. I like it here honestly buttt i can confidently say that the weather is a problem- Im saying this as there is a thunderstorm outside in the middle of summer-
I've been in Connecticut a few times, when I have the opportunity to escape from my routine or the place that I live in I go there and hang out, I can clearly say that the people in general (at least based on my experience) are nice and cool and have a good vibe compared to New Jersey or New York. After Florida if I ever get to a point that I have to make a decision about moving to another state Connecticut will always be in my top 2. Great state for outdoor activities and nightlife, the energy, vibe and my whole being just feels so right over there. Greetings and very informative video!!
What you were saying about CT is the same about New Mexico down to the “T”. Get the 4 seasons in 1 day. Everything is taxed, except Social Security income. But to me when I first visited there, mainly Waterbury, the people who were on the clock or working wherever I be at (Barnes and noble, restaurants) were absolutely fabulous. The only difference is New Mexico doesn’t get as much snow as CT
Agree with you. I migrated to this beautiful country 15 years ago, I came directly to CT. But at this point of my life, I"M DONE. Trying desperately to move out.
Lived here for my whole 50 years of life.. im stuck because of family but i spoke with an economist and if you're not making at least bottom of 6 figures in the next 4 years youll be lower middle class living in CT
I disagree with this statement. I talk to people all over CT. You just need to initiate the conversation. If you stand there by yourself, you'll never talk to anyone, regardless of location.
It is going to be a great year for the passionate contractors that service the troubleshooting aspects of home improvements roofing siding Windows doors All phases of carpentry I believe it's all in the people that you know and the connections are mandatory for contractors here in Fairfield county of Connecticut
CT gets bashed a lot. But, I've been here my whole life and have visited several states. I do like living in CT, overall. Yes, taxes are high, traffic and construction is bad and access to highways are limited is some areas. Nonetheless, we are close to NYC and Boston, so jobs are plentiful. I've done quite well here. Life is what you make of it. I choose happiness.
I’m about to be interviewed for a job as a therapist in CT, and I currently live in Arkansas. The pay they’re offering me is around $70,000 a year. So after taxes that would completely destroy me, right? I’m on a single income too and raise my 12 year old son on my own. Probably not worth the move, right? 😢
@coreykneedler4110 it's hard to say. Depends on where you live in CT and what your lifestyle is like. I would do some online comparisons for the cost of living in Arkansas vs. Connecticut.
$70K in CT is not enough to live on, unless you pool your resources and perhaps have a roommate or two. I make the same and lived in CT my whole life and i could never afford a rent in a decent area plus other living expenses. I currently live in a house with my brother in Fairfield County. It’s like the old show Full House - me, my brother, his daughter and her two kids. We three pool our money in order to live a halfway decent life. We couldn’t do it alone.
Considering relocating some folks to CT and these videos are useful. Hang in there and keep going. More subscribers will follow. Would love to see some "out and about" videos at some point.
Thanks for watching and encouraging me. I have been thinking about getting out and doing some local small business videos. I will definitely put that on my list for the near future.
Connecticut actually doesn’t have very high housing costs compared to other places. as somebody who moved there, you could get a townhouse for 700k in Cali (where i used to live) whereas in Connecticut you could get a regular, updated home.
@m0th._paws0 I agree. California is one of the states that definitely has higher housing costs. That's why CT is a great option for those west coast people looking to move here. 😀
Someone help me me out. I have an option to move to either Boston / Connecticut / New Hampshire. I crossed out NH because of lack of diversity and is currently considering Boston / Connecticut. Can someone recommend which option to go for if I am looking to balance cost of living & some diversity?

I kind of agree that people in CT can be a bit aloof, not the most friendly, but I've realized it all depends on where you are. Towns east of New Haven along the shoreline like Branford, Guildford, Madison, etc. tend to have quite friendly people and those towns are all quite charming.

Connecticut is a state where people love to pay taxes. I love it! I don't want to pay privately at a higher cost for all the excellent services I get from Connecticut. I barely even notice the taxes.
I love Connecticut. I am 74 years old, retired, own my house. Love the seasons, nice people, rolling hills. The taxes are a plague, especially on my small pension and social security. Cost of home, auto repairs are very high. The worst is the tax on vet bills of all things. If it exists, the state will tax it. They have been taxing internet purchases for a couple of years now. Love where I live, in an area away from traffic, ugly big box stores, fast food stinky restaurants which have infiltrated even nice towns and cities.
Sure it's expensive and I myself battle poverty weekly. But if you know how to relate to others without causing self absorbed issues these you might realize there is really a lot to enjoy especially during the warmer months.many festivals and fairs , mostly good for disabled to get around. Many places to take in the arts of all kinds and a very rich history with lots of good doctors and education we even have been voted best pizza in the country several years in a row now. Ask the locals where all the interesting places are that's the best way to really find out not the visitor sites or guides.😊😊
Arkansas has all the same taxes and sales tax is actually higher there, which affects the poor disproportionately (they have sales taxes on grocery and services as well). Property tax is higher in CT so payments and rents are higher, but people in most of AR are seriously poor. Northwest AR has a similar cost of living to some areas of CT, and prices for goods are no worse in CT. NWA's traffic is absolutely horrendous compare to CT, because of growth vs lack of infrastructure in that corner of the state over the last 20 years. I'll take CT winters any day over AR summers which are miserably hot and humid. Don't even get me started on the differences politically.
Wow - thanks for giving me your experiences and thoughts on Arkansas. I had no idea that the cost of living was similar to CT and such bad traffic?? Yes, your weather is likely worse than ours in the summer and I think you may also get some bad tornadoes down there. I love getting feedback on other areas in the country.

I know I'm late to the party with this video, but I've lived in New Haven my whole life and I swear to god, I hate it with everything I've got! I thought it was going to become something like a version of Seattle on the East Coast, but boy was I wrong! I hate the homelessness. I hate the poverty. I hate the high rents. I hate the litter. I hate the traffic. And I hate the cynicism. Nothing changes. New Haven tears things down and then replaces them with NOTHING. They tore down the Coliseum and replaced it with NOTHING for 20 years. They tore down entire neighborhoods and they replaced them with NOTHING for FIFTY YEARS. And anything that other towns would bend over backwards to keep, New Haven tells them to f**k off. And I hate the fact that we had a mayor for years who would flail his arms and scream in his little high voice "WE'RE AN ARTS TOWN!!", and I have to drive out to Orange or Branford just to buy guitar strings. And I absolutely hated it in the 90's when alternative rock came every where BUT HERE, especially since I was trying to start a band and I had no takers nor any place to play. Now that I'm doing stand up there's nowhere to play. Great "arts town" we got here. At least not one the police weren't trying to shut down. The 90's is when I saw most of my friends leave the city, and I was stuck here taking care of my aging parents. It was like I was Max at the end of the Road Warrior being left in the wasteland, watching everyone drive away. I did manage to spend some time in Colorado and in Las Vegas. Both of which weren't bad. But I came back here, and I'm thinking that was a mistake.
Connecticut is definitely a ruff diamond of a state and mainly due to it's exorbitant goverment bureaucracy. Doesn't help when the majority of Connecticut residents are wealthy so the state doesn't mind squeezing them for that gravy train that feeds that bureaucracy. So I think if they cut away the pork and reorganized their governmental approach Connecticut would again shine brighter then most New England states. People in Connecticut are a mixed bag as is everywhere and sometimes just depends on your demeanor and expectations. Most afluet people are juggling a million things and don't have time for pleasantries. The roads are to be desired as is all of the northeast for the aforementioned reason. The landscapes of Connecticut are breathtaking and the history is vast. Education and Healthcare are top notch and the opportunity to have competition from neighboring states is a plus as big states tend to box you in where unless you live on a borderline you can't take advantage of the same opportunities as in the northeast. So if you want to take advantage of New Hampshire's no sales tax, its a short drive as are Boston and NY primetime areas for entertainment, so in other words you pay for all those opportunities in different ways. You can take weekend vacations without breaking the bank or go on vacation within a short drive to the multiple islands surrounding the area. To me other then the weather and the aforementioned New England is the best place to live and visit ✌🏽🇺🇲
Grew up in Stamford. Was a great place in the 60s and 70s. Then the corporations came in,taxes went up, cost of living went up. You become a slave to paying high rents so you can never get ahead. Dismal for working class families trying to get ahead. Moved out when we retired. Connecticut kills their seniors. Taxed to death
Stamford isn't good for the working class, but it is spectacular if you make lots of money. Just a 45 minute commute into Manhattan, tons of incredibly high paying jobs around Stamford itself, and great potential to reverse commute to high paying jobs all along the Gold Coast. Income taxes are less than half what they are in NYC, so your money goes way further.
the problem isnt the corporations its the government. corporations dont charge you taxes, they pay you a fair wage, then government takes much of those wages so they can push an agenda.
@@connecticutcoastallife yes, there is a phaseout on the amount of tax on the pension and annuity income and IRA income from 2023 to 2026 (100% exempt as of 2026).

If you have a masters+ education or a STEM/economy degree…you’ll be alright. ❤ I’ve lived around the country and I love CT over all of them. Utah and Virginia comes to a close second. Weather: it’s pretty predictable. northeasterns are once in a blue moon and roads close. Jobs close. Other states I’ve lived at have northeasterns every other weekend (like Colorado) and they don’t plow the roads or give you delays or give you the day off. People: we are hard to get to know but when we get to know you and form a bond, that’s a bond for life. We aren’t fake. We don’t say “bless your heart” and mean to cause you harm. We mean what we say. Also don’t like drama…..and I think that’s not the same for other states.

It's just an expensive place and little redeeming qualities for the cost. I've been in CT for 6 years now, moved here from upstate NY. Connecticut is a very beautiful state (as long as you stay OUT of every city), but the quaint little village towns aren't anything you cant find anywhere else. That's just what CT is, a place that offers everyday things you can do anywhere else and usually for cheaper if you just move. If Connecticut stopped re-electing the same liberal politicians and actually focused on affordability and dropping the cost for the middle and working class, it would probably be a decent place to live.

I was looking to other states like Pennsylvania or New Jersey but just by curiosity watching your videos inspired me to look around some places in Connecticut to see which ones I like the most and we ended up in Stratford and we love it! We left New York City for good the high taxes and the subway crimes were insane. Thank you again for keeping us informed!
I'm so glad they are helpful! :) And even better that you moved here and LOVE Stratford. It's a great shoreline community.

Yes! We have tons of deer & squirrels here 😄
Highest electric rates in the United States.

Originally from Michigan and currently in Texas and considering a move to CT but not in a big city like Hartford, New Haven or Stamford. Taxes are high in Texas too as well as cost of living. Traffic is bad here too. My visits at my hotel where I stayed both times, I sat at the bar with a bunch of locals who were regulars and had a great time. Being a former Detroiter, I know what you’re saying. My next visit, I hope we meet.
I am selecting a place to move to and am considering CT. So I am wondering what public services you refer to?
As someone who moved to connecticut 2 years ago or so. I like it here honestly buttt i can confidently say that the weather is a problem-
Im saying this as there is a thunderstorm outside in the middle of summer-
I’ll take that over floods, hurricanes and earthquakes lol
I've been in Connecticut a few times, when I have the opportunity to escape from my routine or the place that I live in I go there and hang out, I can clearly say that the people in general (at least based on my experience) are nice and cool and have a good vibe compared to New Jersey or New York.
After Florida if I ever get to a point that I have to make a decision about moving to another state Connecticut will always be in my top 2.
Great state for outdoor activities and nightlife, the energy, vibe and my whole being just feels so right over there.
Greetings and very informative video!!
@Sebastian Barrer - that's great to hear! We aren't as bad as people think 😉 I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I think CT has so much to offer ☺

I'm sorry that was your experience here. :(

@@haneyshrabon I am hoping to do a video on the colleges & universities on the coast soon. Stay tuned!
I too have had that same experience, and I lived there 80 % of my life. moved away and instantly realized that not all people are rude, and obnoxious.
I disagree with this statement. I talk to people all over CT. You just need to initiate the conversation. If you stand there by yourself, you'll never talk to anyone, regardless of location.

@Paul Marganski - thanks for the positive comments. It's nice to see other people who love this state 😀
Your corrected I lived in Florida
I love the Middletown skyline in your thumbnail.
@ oh that’s good! i remember before I moved there I heard about the housing costs and I was like “not again”
Someone help me me out. I have an option to move to either Boston / Connecticut / New Hampshire. I crossed out NH because of lack of diversity and is currently considering Boston / Connecticut. Can someone recommend which option to go for if I am looking to balance cost of living & some diversity?
I can't speak to Boston but do know that some lifelong Ct residents are starting to move to New Hampshire which reminds them of how CT was 30 yrs ago
Lived in Hartford County for most of my life and currently live in North Carolina. I miss Connecticut and hope to return there soon. Yes, it is more expensive, but you get what you pay for.
Love this! CT does have so much to offer even though it is expensive. When you decide to return please reach out. I'd love to help! 😀
What are you not getting in North Carolina? Let us know so we can make informed decisions.
Just visited CT and was surprised how run down, dirty some of the places were. I had also never seen as many homeless people in my life. I was honestly shocked..

I moved from Florida to CT one year ago. I should have watched your video before I made the move. #7 was interesting, I say that people in CT keep to themselves. In my opinion, they are not friendly, but they’re not rude. 😊

@Black Cruze13 yes! Traffic can definitely be terrible heading north in the afternoons
@@connecticutcoastallifedon't sugarcoat it. Travel in any direction is tough. If you're going to represent ffld county honesty then tell it like it is.
I hope they discontinue motor vehicle taxes. When I bought my vehicle I paid taxes on it, and that was fine, but the biannually car tax is overkill- it's greed. They're taking all our Pennies.
It’s no different from VA… I spent time living in many states where 75% of my life is in ct. I prefer VA for one reason only (2A) but they seem to be taking that away. So I gave up the dc traffic and settled for metro north to gct where I can drink on my way home.
I kind of agree that people in CT can be a bit aloof, not the most friendly, but I've realized it all depends on where you are. Towns east of New Haven along the shoreline like Branford, Guildford, Madison, etc. tend to have quite friendly people and those towns are all quite charming.

Hi! Where are you in Connecticut?
From Stamford, moved to Litchfield County, Ct. - it's like the Midwest, friendly people, a different atmosphere. The rude people in Stamford are from New York/ New Jersey, not Ct. natives. Others I know from Stamford say they will never go back. Don't miss the traffic, exorbitant rent, aggressive drivers in Fairfield Country.

Can someone please answer - is it extremely expensive to vacation in CT for out of staters? Beaches, aquariums, mansions, parking, etc.?
Not particularly - hotels are cheaper than in other northeast states, and fees are reasonable. However, parking and entrance into state parks are free for residents, but out-of-staters need to pay.
Go to Maine.
@@justinmiller1118I totally disagree. I've lived here my whole life & everything here is expensive. The parks, Maritime centers, aquariums, restaurants, decent hotels & airb&bs.
You just saved my $$$, was going to visit from Vancouver, where in fact people smile open doors for you and are polite. Had much better experience in Palm Springs early this year.
$12 fee added to homeowner's insurance to pay for other people's crumbling foundations, $15 state park "passport fee" added to your motor vehicle registration, along with "clean air fee", "green energy fee", $20 motor vehicle inspection fee, yearly motor vehicle property tax, property taxes on business equipment (including office supplies such as pencils & paper clips. I'm not kidding), groceries & food are taxed, Hotel tax, movie tax, income tax on your retirement and SS, taxes, taxes, taxes. Can't wait to get out.
Connecticut is a state where people love to pay taxes. I love it! I don't want to pay privately at a higher cost for all the excellent services I get from Connecticut. I barely even notice the taxes.
@@justinmiller1118what services does ct provide??
She’s right I live here too and I’m telling you she’s right
@corylanza2307 thanks for the affirmation! :)
@@connecticutcoastallife Some things, like wine and liquor are more expensive there. Moved to CT from NWA 3 years ago and will never go back if I can help it. And yes, tornadoes are a serious threat there. Don't get me started about OK and MO.

I am coming here 2023.
Merry Christmas love From Pakistan

Oh and have you ever met an icy Midwesterner? Or a Southern person with their “bless his heart” to someone’s face while they stab them in the back.
