  • In this video, I'm going to show you How To Repair Roof Shingles Blown Off. It's an easy job to do, and the cost to repair or replace the shingles is minimal. The hardest and most dangerous part is getting on and off the roof.
These shingles I'm replacing were blown off. Whether your shingles are damaged or blown off, the repair or replacement process is the same.
The original shingles are asphalt 3 tab shingles, so I'll be replacing these with 3 tab asphalt shingles. Always use the same type of shingles when making roof repairs. You may not be able to match the same color of the shingles, but you can always match the type of shingle.
When looking at making roof repairs, always replace roof shingles whenever possible. I do not like to just repair roof shingles because the repair generally does not last the life of the shingles.

Do you have to seal the old nail holes from where you removed the nails In case your plywood is thinner than the length of nail. I'm assuming you won't go back into the same hole. What length nails are you using?

@@Schneeef I will use roofing cement to patch holes. Typically on repairs, you're nailing through at least one other layer of shingles, so I use longer nails. Typically like 1 3/4 roofing tacks.

@@BlueCollarDIY I have three tab shingles on my house right now and just had a contractor come quote me for architectural shingles. I asked him if he would replace the valley metal when doing a new roof and he says he doesn't replace the metal he uses the shingles in a different way that overlap instead of using the metal have you ever heard of something like this? He said the metal messes with the shingles or eats them up or something like that.

@@Schneeef Some roofers will "weave" the shingles in a valley. I personally prefer some type of flashing there, whether it is metal or tar paper. But yeah, some people do not use the metal flashing any longer.

@@Schneeef I peice of w valley 10 foot 24 inch wide costs about $35 each..The cheap metal they make it out of rust so before installing the valley metal paint with Rust-Oleum.

Hello what is the ballpark cost of replacing 15 shingles with materials. Shingle is same kind like the ones shown in the video.

    • @BlueCollarDIY

You're best bet is to call around some roofing companies in your area and get some estimates. With the way things have gotten crazy over the last year, I couldn't even get close to giving you an accurate ballpark figure on shingle repair!
