Putting the 'Developments' into Darkside Developments. Fair play lads love watching a commercial vehicle being used as a commercial vehicle, not just as a showing off piece.
I have air bags on my ranger & tow fully freighted at 7000kg. I put air in and then adjust ride height accordingly. You find pressure increases with addition of weight.
a kid in overalls ' helping ' his dad , there is nothing nicer .. and air-bags are great with leaf springs , especially older style multi leaf as you can take out a few leaves to improve empty ride comfort but still carry / tow weight when needed
As a possibly stupid question, but why not just trigger the electronic handbrake off the existing wiring for the handbrake warning light instead of using a seperate button? That way the driver doesn't need to be taught/remember a new set of controls that could see them either trying to drive with handbrake on or forgetting to activate it when needed... they interact with the system exactly as if they didn't know it had the supplemental system fitted.
You absolutely would if you start trying to take that weight off-road.... but down a highway the amount of deflection you'll get with extra payloads likely less than the stock truck offroad and empty. On the other hand there is a good reason darkside tries lots of this stuff itself before promising/pricing a kit, it'll let them abuse it a bit find if there are any other weaknesses they need fixed in the upgrade package, could be something simple like a bushing, could be something complicated like ABS bias, it can be right on paper, but the only way to know for sure is to test.
Is there a way of linking it in with the load sensing valve for the brakes? Just thinking if there’s loads of weight over the back and the air jacks the suspension up it wouldn’t be getting the braking effort to the back it needs?
How have you achieved the electric Parking Brake mechanism? Be interested to see what you did to make it work as well as also having the Hand Brake for normal use. Does the Hand Brake work off shoes within the Disc or off the Caliper?? Great video as usual and no idea how you "unplate"(????) and I work in trade..... reading up me thinks on the subject is required!!! 😂😂😂🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
We have more information here: www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/Blog/amarok-upplating-6400kg/ It will also need the paperwork side sorting too so its legal.
Class upgrade! Quick one, I can’t afford the facelift V6 Amarok, not even with man math, is the 2l still a decent machine? Any major common faults etc?
Some countries still have regulatory issues with electronic only handbrakes, and the Armarok is sold pretty widely, so that could be the culprit.... and hopefully its not something stupid like marketing department feeling the manual version is more "rugged" or "manly" to appeal to tradesmen, but with VW it could sadly be something like that also.
Electronic handbrakes can offer more force than a normal car sized ratchet, while letting less physically strong drivers attain full force, and more importantly release the brakes if the previous driver pulled them on very firmly. They also prevent the system being left partly engaged when driving, or being applied very lightly so the handbrake sign is illuminated but the vehicle could still roll away. They can be interlocked so as not to be able to come on above a certain speed, which has resulted in crashes with manual handbrakes. They require less interior cabin space to have a button hand the lever did, and can be located where they are less liable to be bumped on or off. Finally many designs apply a constant force, not a constant distance, so if something lets the brakes more inwards further the handbrake remains effective, where a manual lever will let the vehicle roll. The tradeoff is of course they are slightly more expensive, harder to service/repair, and confound some (normally older) drivers who've never dealt with one, meanwhile I have never met an already licensed driver that needed any explanation of the manual kind (they probably exist, but its FAR rarer presently).
Would you not have considered a full air suspension setup to get rid of that horrible riding empty leaf spring rattle when it’s just at the top of its travel? A V6 Amarok on Full air is a Disco 4 Killer with an engine That won’t spit bearings out for fun 😂
Quick one lads: when this stupid ICE ban kicks in in 2030, are the likes of these Amaroks going to be exempt as they will be classed as 'Commercial Vehicles'?
“REYT then I see George is starting his apprenticeship early 👏🏻😂🤣
Great insight to load and trailer brakes. Alot safer, no roll aways. Nice to see you guys sorting a problem. Keep the development going. 👌👍
Your lad already knows way more than Kwik-Fit fitters hahahaha

Got to out vehicles to work!

Leaf springs were invented over 200 years ago ( patented 1804 ) and are still in use today, The simple inventions are usually the best.....
Everytime I press the video Reyt then goes through my head before he says it 😂

Cheers, Yeah if we were not running at capacity I would take a couple out!
Good good stuff, lovely seeing a kid getting brought up and not dragged up. Good product also.
Having operated a fork truck myself, I have to say you slotted that pallet into the Amorok with a level of skill I don't possess.
Tell the bent tailgate that, haha
Great video now put a ton in v10 you'll be surprised how good it does
Nice job 👍👍.. Just make some color protection on metal part's of "air bag's"... (water..mud..sand)

We thought that but it's putting a lot of strain in the system pulling it so hard all the time.
With the payload being increased would you start to face issues with frames starting to bend and crack over time?
Hopefully not!

Its ABS equipped so that takes care of the proportioning.

I'm not showing anyone! Haha these are just discs so they are crap!
@@DarksideDevelopments fair play!!! 😂😂
new camera?
Interesting insight into extra load capacity for the Amarok
So with fitting this system to my ROK can I then tow 3500kgs

I don't like them!
@@DarksideDevelopments that’s not what I wanted to hear 😂 but I appreciate the honesty and gives me food for thought!!
The 2.0 is a poor choice
Never understood why VW didn’t do electronic handbrake on the V6
Would save me trouble!

Real men like to hold a stiff shaft!
It's high time George's John Deere got bagged!
Hi,when fitted,if police stop u ,how do they know you can carry 1ton more,on weight bridge etc ??‽
You have new chassis plates
@@DarksideDevelopments does that come with kit
It will do when all sorted.
Is it possible to do this to cars? As i have a 330d e90 and want to tow a mk3 fiesta on a trailer?
With a light trailer you should be fine but I doubt anyone up-plates cars.
First great videos mate
Will being in park not cover for the hand break?
That would make sense but no!
What about the brake booster valve that is connected to rear suspension? Do the Amaroks don’t have one?
no they dont have one.
I really don't understand the point of electronic handbrakes
Ease of a button

Where's the Audi A6??
Being used!
Does manual or auto make an difference?
pretty much all of the V6 are Auto, but we will only be approving Auto so Manual wont be able to go to 7T
@@DarksideDevelopments cheers I'd be going for manual
I wrote the above comment incorrectly, get an Auto if you want 7T!
The air spring just supports weight it doesn't stabilize
It feels more stable
Reyt then
I think it’s common curtsy that you stat the video with ‘rhyyyyyteh then’ or people will complain.

I'm not sure its worth the engineering!
So George drives a John Deere and wear jcb overalls ..... your going to loose him to the Agri world ha 🤣🤣get that chap some dark side overalls
He has JD ones too! Haha

No one knows yet, we won't worry!
It is only a ban on selling New vehicles
