    Look at the Cho Pat knee brace. It has been great for me as it provides support below and above the knee but doesn’t limit mobility.

    Get a Neoprene knee brace/sleeve, they really stabilize the knee well. They are light weight, closed cell, so they don't absorb moisture and are not expensive, check Wal-Mart or such. I used one for years until my knee replacement.

    Hey Frozen, I'm excited for your AT adventure! I have one of those balls and they work great to rub out your foot, just remember to use it on a rock or hard surface floor because if the ground is soft enough it will grab all that dirt and leaves and stuff. As for a knee brace I had issues with my knees, which I had never had before but coming down the Roan Highlands north of Big Hump Mtn. nearly killed me. I take 2 different kinds but only 1 of each. A knee sleeve that I got at Walmart for $3 bucks and another one that goes under the knee that night have been $6. There are different kinds of pain in the knee but these 2 address most of them. Also if one knee is bad I will double up on one knee and use both at the same time. I hope that makes sense. Love the videos!

    The knee compression sleeve that is the best seller on amazon works great for me. Definitely helps after years of dealing with knee issues. Also cheap so so if you want to stop carrying it no need to send it home....

    A tip on the Cuben tarp material and tape: That Cuben repair tape you have will not stick to the Cuben fabric when wet> If water is condensing on the Cuben (even if it is not raining) as fast as you wipe it away (what happens when the conditions are right like in the fog). Contact the folks that make Aqua Seal and see if that uses moisture to help cure the adhesive. If memory serves, it does. If you have a hole in the Cuben, and it is wet out, and the hole is right over your hammock, there will not be much you can do to stay dry. A small tube of Aqua Seal, might just be the ticket.

    • @donmatulevich9411
      @donmatulevich9411 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good point. You usually find out you need the repair when it is raining out. I wonder if Leuko tape can hold on a wet tarp even if it is temporary until you can dry it out and use the cuben tape.

    • @MstrRo1
      @MstrRo1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@donmatulevich9411 I doubt it. As I recall, some instructions for the proper adhesives (that may work well with a wet tarp/fly), will suggest, to dampen the material before applying the adhesive. These are the ones you want for the tarp.

      Found Adhesion Sciences Tarp Repair / Seam Tape. Works in wet conditions. I might look into that and see how it works with dyneema.

    • @MstrRo1
      @MstrRo1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may have been Seam Grip, also made by GearAid.com, that might cure better in damp conditions. I checked their web page and it notes: Cure Method: humidity.

      Aquaseal is a polyurethane based sealant. I have used it to attempt to seal all kinds of things and it’s marginal in materials that aren’t some sort of urethane type. I can test this when my DCF comes in from Dutch as I have gallons of aquaseal at work but I suspect it will either not stick well or there is always a chance it would degrade the material. I’ll test it and post results in the next couple weeks.
      Aquaseal doesn’t set very fast unless you add a proprietary solvent called Cotol.
      The former mcnett products, now known as “Gear Aid” (makers of aquaseal) have some other sealant options I planned to test anyway.
      Remember “sealants” might work as adhesives but that’s not their intent so they won’t perform as well as a proper adhesive. Any of these things can degrade the underlying material, void warranties, and wreck products so it’s not advised to use them without testing on scrap materials AND consulting the manufactures.

    Firstly, enjoy your hike. Take it day by day and take the time to appreciate your journey.
    Now, as for follow up to your video:
    1. Most delli belly or bowel issues can be solved by immodium. One note, if you need it for more than two days, get yourself sorted out at the nearest motel. You don't really want to be in a hostel in that condition with another dozen hikers...
    2. Check out a few vids from Chrisgoesoutdoors or early riser 71 regarding blister treatment that includes a needle and thread. Works like a charm.
    3. As you're wearing contacts, some eye cleaning solution 'optrex' or something similar may come in handy in case you get some irritation. Also, since you mentioned you may be using an eye contact case for your aquamira drops (previous video), possibly a good idea to use a marker to clearly identify one case from the other...
    4. Also, in a pinch rice can be used as a desiccant if those bags break open.
    Again, wishing you all the best.

      @FrozensAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can get indigestion too, but when I'm backpacking I don't seem to get it despite eating foods that normally trigger it. To me, it says there's something about being that active that changes how my digestion works. If I ate that many m&ms at my desk I'd pay for it... big time holmes.

    I have a problem closing up ziploc bags especially in the cold, so I only use the ones with sliders nowadays which I can use even if wearing mittens. As for conserving TP, I have practiced the first wipe with leaves, closed pine cones, smooth sticks, snow balls, and gotten used to that. Also I wear a single-use blue nitrile glove (3.5 g) which gives me confidence with any back-end action. I can pick up used paper with the glove and peel it off enclosing used TP. Hand stays clean. I use a plastic peanut jar (49 g, luxury item?) for nighttime peeing in the tent (TMI, jar kept in vestibule, not in tent), but I don't know how that would be possible with a hammock. Bake your dessicant in the oven from time to time to dry it out. Your knife screwdriver is also a nail file, so scissors to trim, file to smooth. I have some solid sunscreen which makes me think that BodyGlide or your other balm should have a sunscreen version in order to be dual purpose especially for one's nose and cheeks. I hope you discuss in the electronics video pros/cons of big powerbank or two half-size powerbanks. Sorry for the long comment!

    Good video. Well taught out kit. One bit thou.. the shower part. That sit pad will let you just stand in the shower? You would have to walk with your hiking shoes right next to the shower. Somehow balance your self out of boots and on that that pad. And back when done. Dry your feet before boots and all that. Can be done but sound... well, difficult. How about bringing few of those "wrap over your shoes" things that you see in hospitals. Shouldnt weight anything and would allow for a bit more movement while getting to your pad. They obviously wont last, but would probably take what few steps you take to get from your boots to your pad.

    I have a bum knee and have been wondering how I will handle it on my planned thru-hike in 2020. When it's acting up the only thing that has help me is a hinged brace. Basically it has a big steel hinge that both provides needed support to the knee while also preventing hyperextension. But I won't be able to wear it on my hike since after an hour or so the two very large velcro bands will literally saturate my jeans with sweat, even in the winter. What kind of brace you need depends of course on what type of injury you have. The only advice I can offer is about what I have experience with myself, and that would be to avoid a hinged brace if at all possible.

    I'm guessing you were already planning on having one side of your sitpad designated as the "floor side," but if not that would be super smart. Athlete's foot could definitely be transferred via that. Or at least just scrub it down good with soap after each time you use it in a shower. Not the worst thing to catch, but it'd be hard to combat Athlete's foot while on the trail. Can't wait until your thru-hike videos start dropping!

    Zantac or Tums would be a better option for stomach acid. Prilosec only works if you take it on a daily basis, and it can take up to a week before you see the full effect. I am a pharmacist, and I don't really recommend Prilosec or Nexium to people unless their Dr. says it's necessary. Taking it for a few months is fine, but if you take it long term it can start to have some negative effects from vitamin deficiencies.

    Keep you lighter warm as it has butane and it will not ignite in cold temperatures. Sawyer will send you a replacement gasket and the replacement will have little tabs on the gasket so you will not keep losing the gaskets. Your Purell will not help you with Noro-virus, try Zylast or Chlorox Hand Sanitizer. For the facia in your feet, start doing full range motion calf raises on the step edge. Strengthen your core and hips to help your knees. Do some lateral leg raises while on your side to start.

      @@FrozensAdventures A damp lighter may not light either, some back-up Stormproof matches might be comforting. Once you get your calves and achilles losened up, use a slipperly door to help give you more stretch in your hamstrings and glutes by touching your toes, then while bent over, lean into the door as your feet are about 18 inches from the door and shoulder width apart. Allow the losening of the muscles to move help the shoulder blades to slide down the door. Over time, you will be able to get your head on the floor. Go easy in the beginning as to not over stretch. For warm-ups before stretching, do some no weight squats (about 50) and then do some lunges (50 per leg). Use lungs to also help stretch your hip flexors. Squats and lunges will help with your climbing also. It might be wise to start each day with this routine. On the trail, use a tree instead of a door.

    You may answer this in your other videos (as I am behind/catching up) - but do you have tick protection besides tweezers? As someone who has had three friends who have chronic Lyme disease (all picked up in PA, one of whom went from doing ultramarathons to barely walking) I hike in long but breathable pants with permethrin and use picardin on my exposed skin. They'll start a fire even with damp kindling. I love staring into a nice fire, but so many times I gathered wood after setting up, but was too tired to actually make a fire. Oh well.

    KT tape/rocktape, the extra sticky stuff if you want to use it over dirty skin, and leave it for a while(7days was my max). It sticks even better after it gets wet and the adhesive is difficult to remove. So play around before you leave. There are a few ways to apply it, watch videos and figure out what works

    For my knees. I have walked every mile since 2017 with a knee band on each knee. It stabilizes the patella and I haven't had any issues at all with over 1700 miles walked.

    Good job bro ! you will find out what you need and not as you go. Great gear videos. You know through your previous hikes, I think you are on point. Cant wait to see your videos on the trail.

    “Workt” brand knee sleeves have a shiny inside and hold up really well to abuse. Also they have an anti-stink that really makes a difference. This is the only one of maybe 4 brands that are safe after a week of use.

    For the knee brace...
    Perhaps an ace bandage could work as you can wrap it to any desired tightness and it is multi purpose.

    I thought I was the only one that takes super glue on trail. Except I use it to close any wounds.

    Hi Jason! How about a nail clipper? Do you plan to bum one from a friend or pick up in town and drop it as a one time use sort of thing?

      The small knife he has can be used for nail trimming since it has a small scissors and a nail file.

      Yes the scissors in that swiss army knife does a great job on the nails.

    strike anywhere, wooden matches in a waterproof case. BodyGlide also comes in a very small container.

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea those little containers are worthless. Just fyi the actual product in those things is about 1/16th the size of the container. Probably get uses out of those.

    given any consideration to a compass? certain styles even have mirrors, that could cover the signalling mirror you're already bringing. I know in some of your hiking videos you've mentioned a compass ... but if you're not bringing one, might want to consider it. Phones can break, not have signal or run out of batteries. i have a pretty fancy suunto plate compass... in addition to my phone. which is probably overkill/just my buying gadgets addiction..... I doubt i'm ever going to do deep back country land nav... but i know how to use it, and feel better being able to at the very least venture off trail on an azimuth and come back along its reverse
    hope the pneumonia clears up soon. best of health!

    Hey man I have had an acl tear and I would use a sleeve not a brace. Braces do not do much compression keeps swelling down. I like the copper fit it does not slide. Question on the body glide, do you use anything else to replace it. Thanks

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me personally I don't use it at all. There are other comments in here about Gold Bond. Me personally I haven't needed body glide in years.
