Broken Barrel! Way on the right. That stuff is fantastic for the price. The cask strength is amazing at $45. 115 proof. They have a cool story and spin on normal bourbon releases. The Lux Row bottle that you have is our distillery exclusive its two 12 year old barrels blended together (hence double single barrel it means exactly what it looks like lol). Our master distiller John Rempe hand selects out both of the barrels out to be blended for the Lux Row 12 batches. It is a low rye bourbon mash (78% corn 10% rye 12% malted barley) 118.4 proof cask strength because that is the opening day at lux row 4-1-18. Just a bit of knowledge for you, sucks I didn't get to meet you but I am glad you made a trip out. Hope to see you around bourbon fest or if you come buy some barrels from us!

Soon TJ will have to accept he actually likes French Oak - similar to how he eventually had to cave on Rye whiskey. He has liked numerous French oak bourbons now. If you ask me, there are only three "flavoring" finishes that work well on bourbon - French Oak, Maple/Honey, and Rum. Maple/Honey I put together because they both just highlight one of the sweet notes in bourbon and I think they usually create comparable finished products. Rum can be very hit or miss but a good Foursquare finish works well. French Oak is the only one that actually adds a new layer of complexity that pairs well in a bourbon profile. To me it adds a little more chocolate croissant, red fruit, and cinnamon the overall profile. The winner is the red fruit. I think a French oak finish on MGP bridges the small gap in profile from MGP to Sazerac bourbon. If you want that red fruit pop of Buffalo Trace/Eagle Rare with a little more proof you do well finding a good MGP whiskey finished with French oak (like Penelope Architect). I also think it does wonders to make younger whiskey taste well aged because it adds complexity without unbalancing the whiskey.
