I know about Bourbon and I like to have a shot quite often. I’ll give it the Ky chew but in my opinion that’s the best way to really taste a whiskey. I won’t do that past like 115 proof haha
As a bourbon lover from Germany I am so crazily jealous ever time I see these bourbon hunting videos. If you have a heart for fellow bourbonheads, hit me up!!
I was in KS last month and spoke with a liquor rep. Allocated products are determined by previous years volume and projected increases. Texas is the #1 volume state for Weller and Kansas is #2.
You can find Weller SR and Buffalo Trace all day long, every day here in Southeast Texas at a local chain called Longhorn Liquor in Beaumont, Lumberton, Nederland, Groves, Mont Belvieu, and other towns. Others worthy in terms of selection, prices and availability of all sorts of whiskies. Deb’s Liquor and Miller’s Liquor, Red’s and sometimes Tejas…and Spec’s Liquor is another large but local-ish chain from Houston. Their “warehouse” on Smith in Houston is a sight to behold.
Yep. My experience in SETX also. I like to make relationships with the young floor guys in Specs and they always have good stuff in the back… but Weller SR and Buffalo Trace, all day…
Back in the day (‘89-‘91) I used to work for Mr. Jacob as a delivery driver. Part-Time gig while active-duty. It was the original store, small, but purposeful. Mr. Jacob made all us delivery drivers attend tastings hosted by the wholesalers. He wanted us informed just in case a customer had a question and we were the only employees in eye shot. During this time, is when I stopped doing shots and started sipping. I left the area ‘91 and haven’t been back. I need to swing by.
It’s such a joy to watch TJ do his thing on these hunts. The lucky people who get to accompany him also enjoy his hospitality and wisdom. It’s always such a pleasure to watch him and this channel. He’s one of the most genuine people I watch on TH-cam because he’s always just his honest self. Very humble and generous even buying bottles for the fans that have the chance to join him on the hunt. Any store that stops him from filming is just crazy because he’s bringing positivity and highlighting these stores and their products. So many people watch him so it’s essentially free marketing and advertising to almost a million people for just letting him film while hunting. Great video as usual Sir. # Bottle Killed
Not only do I just enjoy watching these videos but Brewzle is such a chill dude to gift a bottle to each tour guide he gets because it is a sociable hobby
He gives them one bottle, but brews gets multiple bottle based on the tour guides hard earned relationships. They probably would have or already had that bottle based on the relationships he’s made
The Doc Holliday is bottled separate from the distillery because the original distiller shut down. They used the same master distiller for decades and when he passed away they shut down the distillery. A different company came across the remaining barrels and are now bottling/selling it.
The reason you find more selection in Kansas is because the state doesn’t get involved like in many other states. Distillers deal directly with dealers and distributors. That means their cash flow is much better and comes in faster.
I’ve been told, historically, Kansas has been one of the biggest consumer of Weller products. A lot of the farmers like it. So we have always and seem to continue to get a lot of it.
Augusta Distillery has become one of my favorites over the last several months. My group had a Route 8 pick that is absolutely delicious. Buckner 17 is on another level. My group is doing the first ever 17yr pick offered for the 17yr this Sunday. If you're ever back in or around Knoxville, TN. I'd be happy to share.
@@caseychilders4054 So I recently discovered Buckner's thanks to SLB. I have the 10yr and recently got a 17yr, its fantastic stuff. Need to pick up a Route 8, heard the 13yr is fantastic but yet to spot one.
TJ…. Thanks for always giving me weekend content to watch as I light a good smoke and enjoy pours!!! Especially love drinking what you’re talking about/drinking!!!
The formula to Total Wine is literally how the manager is feeling. Some are cool, some aren't, a lot are just cautious on the off chance it comes back to them in a bad way.
@Brewzle I'm glad you met Gary at Woodhat and tried some of their stuff... If you are ever back through that area ask about their Purple and Orange corn. The purple is actually the best stuff they have if you ask me. It's got a KILLER nose on it but the whiskey needs more time in a barrel or needs a secondary finish. Their 15 gallon barrels aging in shipping containers just roast the whiskey. I wish Gary would do more 53 gallon Barrels or build a rickhouse but he doesn't seem that interested. In an ideal world you could source some of his 15s and then finish them in a 53 gallon. I think his whiskey would do great if someone finished it in a Rum barrel. The one component his whiskey desperately lacks is a mid palate sweetness and rum finishing is great for that.
@Brewzle you might have found the land of Weller in Kansas, but I believe I live in the land of Benchmark. At my local liquor store here in T-county Ohio, they have all 6 Benchmarks in stock always. I love that you guys found bottles from Wood Hat Distillery. I didn’t know they had distribution out in Kansas. I didn’t like it at first but started enjoying their products lately. I picked up the 10 year hazmat from the them back in August and it’s tasty. Dang I keep hearing OGD 114 is going away but Beam keeps producing it. Glad I was paying attention when you were at JT's. They had two bottles of Union Horse Port Finished Rye sitting on the table. I haven't seen that bottle around in a couple years and didn't think there were any left! Had a buddy stop in this morning and pick both of them up.
So glad I stayed for the whole video. I almost stopped watching a couple times. I would have missed out on the big guy with the white goatee, and awesome white mullet! That thing is all-time.
You were in Wichita and so close to Owasso, Ok. There is a store there that has at least 50 cases of WSR. 750s and 1 liters. It’s been fully in stock for at least a year and a half. It’s a bit expensive, definitely not $22, but they have enough you’d need a forklift to move it.
I love seeing people that know what the hell they're talking about, talk about what they know. I know basically nothing at all about whisk(e)y. This is so interesting. Subbed.
It’s a shame eh? A lot of Americans can only see the light of day through a glass of bourbon. Not to mention they cleanse their pallet with sugar pop. There’s so much good whisky out there, only a very small fraction of it is American. I love this channel, huge fan in fact but I take it with a pinch of Americana salt.
4:49 Raffles are legal in KS, as long as they are open to all persons, and it does not require them to make a purchase to get a raffle (illegal ex: buy $50 get one raffle or get one raffle for every $25 spent etc)(no incentive). Some stores have it where customers can come once a day during a timeframe to grab a raffle. They must also know it is for a chance to buy allocations at MSRP.
I’m from Wichita and used to live 1/2 mile from Tom’s. Best find there was a 2017 GTS. 2nd best 2012 CL Taylor Rye, found multiple Elmer T, and back in the day I could walk in any day of the week and grab a bottle of 107 or Blantons.
This is my first time seeing this channel, and I had a blast watching it as I actually live in Wichita. In fact, I saw you pick up that Store Pick of the Blue Note Unfiltered and went and snagged it from JT's, lol. Really great here, and looking forward to watching more.
Couldnt help but notice the float planes hanging from the ceiling. If you are in the Spooner, Wi area, check out the local Schmitz's Economart grocery store. The liquor store in there has blue and white ceiling tile lights to simulate clouds but they also have large scale RC planes hanging from the ceiling.
Weller SR ON THE SHELF at under $90-100 blows my mind. (Hence why I nurse my 2 yo bottle) PS that S&C Howling Mob is fantastic! However, first pour isn't as good as after it opens up a little. IMO. Cheers!
The wilderness trail wheated cask strength store picks are the best WT product in my opinion. Nothing wrong with the standard WT wheated but it serves better with some proof.
I've been buying from a few small local distillers, and the big difference between the 2 fastest growing ones is that one is just selling everything they have as soon as they can call it what it is. The other has been holding back barrels and selling more aged stuff. The 2nd has become my favorite local dram, while the 1st even though they sell more are kind of dropping off my radar.
Greetings from Ohio. Special Reserve used to be rare here in Ohio. The past year or so it can be found more and more. Not as much as this video haha, but it's not uncommon to find it here.
CA, Weller SR 750ml is only on the shelf at $50-80. Any less, I haven't seen and if there is a drop it's the least amount of bottles. There is more EHT Small batch than Weller SR.🤷 Very nice stores with a large selection.
I remember a place years back in MA(like 30 years or more). It was called Ma's Liquors. Ma must have been pushing 85 to 90. Prices were all over the place. Walked in one day and grabbed some JD bonded. She rattled off a price that was WAY below what it was marked at. I corrected her and she got mad. She said I said it was blah blah. Yeah here in Kansas we do get that SR once a month like clock work. But most stores may get a 107 one bottle once a year and eagle rare maybe a couple times a year. So even with great relationships 99% will never score 2 107's in a lifetime at msrp
@Brewzle don’t sleep on the Boot Hill offerings. I am a bit biased as I live in Dodge City but you will have to visit the distillery to truly appreciate the juice. It’s 100% made from locally grown ingredients that the owner farms himself. Really awesome history from a really cool distillery. Hit me up if you come this way.
My home town... i've commented on so many whiskey youtubers videos about how plentiful and cheap Wellers SR is here in ICT. Tom's is my favorite store in town my second is across the street from me. which I'm sure was on the list but couldn't make it to. Tom was my oldest son's Boy scout leader.
Total Wine is only good for cheaper shelfer bottles a an occasional good store pick like the Jack Daniels SB Barrel Proof I got a while back. You have to be grand reserve to get any allocated releases unless the manager at that specific TW has connections with distributors and will occasionally put out good bottles for MSRP. I did find a Hardins Creek Boston there once at MSRP and snagged it.
Lived in wichita for 30 years, bar manager for 10 years awhile back when I was just old enough to have the position. 107 had always been my favorite forever and was pissed when I couldnt get it while traveling. We never got a lick of unavailability here then found out how hard it really is to come by outside of here. I very likely could be clinically considered a hoarder now

No doubt, though, that TJ certainly is a Magnificent Bastard!
Yoooooo my hometown!!! Love when Wichita gets mentioned!
On the west coast we get weller very rarely. I know of one store that actually tries really hard to get it maybe once every few months.
bottle kill, king! you've been killing it with the uploads lately!
thanks for taking us on all your hunts and adventures
Saw most of these whisky’s today . Bought a store pick Knob Creek 9 year barrel select for $63.
I also live in Haysville and Tom's has been my go to for years.
I also don't have much of tasting notes, I just drink what tastes good.
Boothill is great. Toured the distillery and it was awesome
14:25 that Smoke Wagon Full Strength on the top shelf is great bourbon.
Representative ……is a solid pick.
Thanks for the Kansas tour!
