I am almost 60, and have grown up with so many great bands, but KG&TLW are the very best of them all. The musicianship live, the complexity (yet it is hooky), polyrhythms, polymeters, microtonal, etc. is off the charts. The album that Iron Lung came off (Ice Death Planets Lungs Mushrooms And Lava) has a song in each of the Western modes. Iron Lung is Aeolian mode. They only went in with that concept, and wrote the songs, did the album in a fucking week! I can't get over their level of genius. Saw them for the first time live last fall, and it was so amazing we are going to Red Rocks in June where they will play over nine hours of music in 3 shows, and not repeat a single song. Lucky for us they are as prolific and hardworking as they are geniuses. Dive deep my friend, you won't be disappointed.
This is probably one of the best modern bands. They're genre hoppers and they're prolific, yet dont do one genre better than the others and dont sacrifice quality for quantity (granted, I'm not too far into their discography, and I'll listen to their 6th album soon). 5 albums in 1 year, twice. Once in 2017, once in 2022, with 3 of them from 2022 being released in the same month. If you want some more, I'd suggest Mars For The Rich or The River (both live on KEXP). Two wildly different songs, the former being stoner metal, while the latter being a jam session in 5/4 for most of the song.
Some of their “misc” albums like Oddments or Omnium Gatherum can be a bit hit or miss since they contain songs or ideas that didn’t quite make it onto other albums, but they’re definitely outliers in their discography as a whole, and they’re not so much bad as inconsistent. KGLW is merely interesting at their worst, but their best is incredible.
Take modern out of that sentence and I'd agree. Let's not pigeonhole them into only competing with modern bands. These guys are as good or better than most of the classic rock bands from back in the day , Zeppelin and Floyd included. If these guys came up in the 60s or 70s people would be proclaiming them the greatest rock band of all time. Some of us are anyway. Hell, take rock out of my sentence and I'd still agree.
The red shirt guy, Ambrose has his own band too, called The Murlocs. It’s a bit different, but it’s always cool to hear more Amby, because his voice is amazing in both bands.

I recomond checking out the KEXP Mururder Of the Universe consert, and if i have to pick one song from it then its Lord Of Lightning. I have seen them live twice and its the most fun conserts i ever been to. Big recomendation
Someone put together murder of the universe from redrock into one video which is actually pretty well done. Would be cool to see someone see that for the first time..

I’ve seen these guys live 6 times, they’re absolutely a must see live, bucket list band for anyone serious into music. An authentic face melting experience! 🫠
As a jam band fan you should definitely check out “the dripping tap” from the bonaroo 22 set, there’s great video of it and it’s a pretty next level jam.
Please check out some more my friend that was awesome. My other top suggestions would be Magma Kexp or Astroturf. Two other newer songs that they absolutely murder on. Astroturf being very jazzy.

Stu took time to talk to me and my son who was 10 at the time at the Green man festival, Wales. He's now 16 and playing 3 instruments, has his own band and studying sound production. Huge influence on my son's young life. ❤

Aeolian? I couldn't work it out. Magma I think is Phrygian and Lava is Locrian. Mycelium my guess is Ionian. The others?
