Yeah nobody would sign them originally so they went "fuck it" and created their own label to produce their own music. They can crank out multiple albums per year because of this. They also produce indie bands around Australia who don't get record deals, they will give anybody a chance.
Thanks for the shout out! Great request Morris! If no one else Mentioned, this is part of their Microtonal albums, where they use custom built guitars with extra frets to access the notes in-between notes that western music doesn’t normally use. Also this is when they use to have 2 drummers, the one no longer in the band runs Flightless records, which the band used to be on. Now the band self-releases on their new label p(doom) records.
Thank you very much, I really loved this reaction. First thing is, the song is about togetherness and connecting to make a more powerful union, to make us better. Second, look at the guitars when you rewatch the video, they have extra frets on the guitars and bass, actually, all the instruments are in MICROTUNING to give it a more middle eastern flavor. And lastly, Eclectic is a great word and it sums up me and KGLW perfectly. (Oh, btw, there was a bunch of really suspicious looking comments, with smutty looking, obscene profile pics. I reported the whole lot of them.)
King Gizzard is genius, one of the best bands today. Over 25 albums in their 10 years as a band, all amazing and lots of different styles from Metal, Prog Rock, Jazz Fusion, etc. PLEASE Check out Nonagon Infinity (Studio Version, not live), their best album and a good gateway. The entire album is 1 long song (split in 2 halves so two 20 minute songs) and it's banging the entire way. Side 1 (the first 5 tracks) is one of my favorite musical moments ever. Top Tier King Gizz (so far)
YESSSSSS!!! King Gizz is the best band going right now. Fantastic catalog: metal, psych, prog, garage, trip-pop, concept albums, sci-fi, etc. And many albums have a story connecting them (the Gizzverse). Most importantly, their music is fantastic. Hope you check out more! I know you got ‘Dragon’ some time ago which was cool. Maybe check out ‘Magma’ from Red Rocks 6/8/23. It’s mind-melding.
99% of the time I am shocked you guys have not heard of the music you review. This Time you pulled something I have never heard of, I got to say I am loving it. About to take a deep dive down the King Gizzard Rabbit Hole. Thanks Guys!
Those Beastie Jam comparisons are quite appropriate man. You know the other crazy thing about the very early Beastie Boys is that their drummer who Name Escapes me but she laid down one of the first clear and obvious blast Beats seriously way before even Napalm death had does the scum ep. Crazy s*** man anyway yeah the jam element of the beasties is quite a good comparison I wish that the beasties had entertained that more than just during the middle section of some of their later shows cuz their jams were f****** brilliant
This is one of their microtonal songs. They put extra frets on their guitars perfectly in-between the normal frets to easily play quartertones, which are like half-semitones. Basically, some of the notes are intentionally out of tune. Lyrically, to me it seems like a nuclear love song. Then again, I don't know what Nuclear Fusion actually _is,_ so I'm probably wrong. Genre-wise, I'd say this fits psychedelic rock and Anatolian rock, which is a sort of combo-genre that combines western rock music with Turkish folk music. There's a song on the album this is from with a melody very similar to an actual Turkish folk song if I remember right. You mentioned that the band members look like they basically have every age group, but in reality they're all around their early-mid 30s as of now. Every member of this band is a multi-instrumentalist. If you wanna get familiar with who's who, here's how you can tell (with what instruments they play live). Stu Mackenzie: blonde curly hair. Most lead vocals, guitar and synths. Joey Walker: short brown hair, used to have a curly mullet, currently has a mustache. Lead guitar and synths, 3rd most lead vocals. Ambrose Kenny-Smith: long dark hair. 2nd most lead vocals, harmonica, synth/keys and sax. Cook(ie) Craig: shorter blonde hair, had a beard and was bald at some point. Very rarely on lead vocals. Rhythm guitar and keys. Lucas Harwood (formerly Lucas Skinner): shorter brown hair, often has a beard. Plays bass, will eventually be on lead vocala. Michael "Cavs" Cavanaugh: brown curly hair, sometimes has sideburns. Drums, did lead vocals on 1 song so far. Eric Moore: straight brown hair, often has a mustache. Also drums. Left the band in 2020. Sorry for the giant comment, I love this band.
Freddy Falcon, eh. Listen to Freddy Fender. Started in the 50s in TX with songs like La Banda Esta Borracha (the Band is drunk). Later in the 90's joined TX Tornados for Hey Baby Que Paso and other hits
I love y'all and I know it's a matter of taste but some of this music lately has been so bad for me 🤣 I feel like I'm the only person in America who hates The Beach Boys haha regardless... What is going on here? hahaha
This band literally does everything. Think of a genre and you’ll find it in their discography and it’s always good.
Amen!
