    That truck is like your favorite old pair of western boots, or a stray dog that shows up at your house, no one wanted, turns out to be the best dog you ever had, I like the patina, not sure how much I would Restore it, that would be a hard decision for me

      Well, I've had it over 21 years now, and it still looks exactly the same. I don't really see any reason to restore it at this point. I'll just continue to keep it maintained and going. It has definitely been the best truck I've ever known. I could go out there right now, and it would start up and take me to town and back with cold AC.

    You’ve got the best taste in vehicles. I don’t blame you one bit for not tearing that one apart. She’s nice!! BTW I wanted to personally thank you for getting that keyless entry kit in the mail so quick. My son had it installed in about 30 mins. Works great! I walked 4 houses up and it still worked! Excellent range. Enjoy your videos. Thanks again

    Ford trucks rock. It's easy to appreciate the condition of the black truck up against the daily driver two-tone charcoal. The 4x4 has a much more aggressive stance. Thanks Tony.

    Add me to the people on the list who want to buy this truck! Love the stance with the tires and wheels, and the "patina" and wouldn't change a thing. And my OCD appreciates the exhaust tips being perfectly aligned and straight, LOL. Sounds great with the dual exhaust. While the black truck looks great and I wouldn't kick it out of my garage, I'd take the grey one all day. Amazing how the shock towers are holding up compared to the "Titanic-like" towers on the other one. Thanks Tony, have a great day!

I think that the inescapable conclusion is that Ford build quality from that era was head and shoulders above GM build quality. My Aunt kept Truck for 37 years and drove very little, has 33,000 original miles! Have updated gaskets, belts, oil and transmission filter changed etc! Body and inside next! "They've got the same 3.55 gears". Same gears but different tire diameters. The effective gear ratio is totally different with different sized tires. With the taller tires it will feel lazy off the line. You would need to compensate with 3.73 gears to keep engine rpms and acceleration the same. Then there's the extra weight and resistance of the 4x4 transfer case and front axle added to the mix. All things considered those little 302s did a pretty good job at pulling around those full sized trucks.

    Hi Tony, excellent video ! Very quick in getting it uploaded, sure brought back alot of great memories of my dad's even the way the hood shuts and the doors they just have that distinct sound that you never forget! I still give him some hell every now and again for getting rid of it because it was suppose to be my first truck but I ended up with a 95 f150 xl was still a nice truck great shape when I had it but nothing compared to the 86 !! Those glasspack mufflers sound awesome to by the way ! I just recently saw somebody sold one of those tailgate panels on ebay brand new in the ford box for about $1500 !! Those tailgate panels bring a small fortune now back in the day brand new from Ford they were $350, and like you said getting very hard to find 2 year only! As for the tires Tony I'd put a set of bfgoodrich all terrain t/a's on it that's what my dad always ran on his with the white letters out of course ! Never got stuck with them and they look awesome on those trucks I think ! By the way thanks for mentioning me in your video ! Sure would love a ride in that truck but I'm in Massachusetts sort of a ways away !

    • @tonyscarcare5657
      @tonyscarcare5657  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Yeah I assume the next tires would be the BFGs iron they're still available at the time. Everything good is going away for these older vehicles. As for as the tailgate panel, yes for sure they bare high. At one time I knew a place the had 7 of these NOS in the boxes for $500.00 each. Man I wish I'd bought them so bad!

    • @matthewkochan4808
      @matthewkochan4808 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes those tires are awesome they wear like steel ! BFG is on there second generation of those tires now though still basically the same tread pattern as the original KO's but they have the KO2's now, would be neat to find a set of the originally KO's for nostalgia but that might be pushing it a bit now as those have been out of production for at least 5 or 6 years now I believe? they don't give those tires away either the price is up there on those to. That's to bad on those tailgate panels Tony ouch ! If only we could go back in time ! The motor sounds and runs strong in your truck to by the way, starts right up just as they should every time !

      @@matthewkochan4808 oh yes the motor is strong and carries great oil pressure. When I first got the wheels in 1997 they were on a 93 F150 and they had the BFG ATs on them. I kept them when I sold the 93 knowing I was looking for an 86. I still have another set of those wheels too.

    • @matthewkochan4808
      @matthewkochan4808 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it sure does I can see the oil pressure gauge right up there when your driving it down the road! Yes those are sharp looking rims on your truck! When my dad bought his it had the original ford steel rims like you have on the black truck with the center caps and chrome trim rings but 2 of the rims were bent when he got it, so he bought a set of American racing rims I believe the number was ar65 15 inch rims they looked pretty sharp on there I've tried looking high and low for them now and can't find them anywhere, little side note also at the time my dad had his 86 my mom had a 1990 ford bronco.

    Nice truck. Hard to believe it has so little rust being in the rust belt. You must have done a good job washing that stinkin' salt off. Hate that stuff! I wouldn't paint it either, it has a nice patina going on! BTW, I know you're not going to do it now (and I wouldn't either), but from my understanding you don't have to swap frames to convert one to 4WD, just the major parts: the TTB, 4WD tranny, T case, driveshafts, etc.

    Over the years I have told people if you love your car truck why buy something new just rebuild the one you have. you might go in debt for a few thousand rather than tens of thousands. new motor new transmission. new brakes are something we put on anyway. So again why buy something that will last only a few years especially if what you have fills your purpose. Looking at the steering wheel for the 86 f150 lariat I think I'd like to change mine out for that one. Just have to find one.

    • @tonyscarcare5657
      @tonyscarcare5657  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I sure do. However, it's extra cost if you want the horn to honk because of having to add a relay. If you aren't worried about the horn, it's the same cost as all the others at $227.00 total shipped, including tax and insured shipping. Thank you very much!

    I have an '89 Mercury Colony Park Wagon. The Grand Marquis's didn't come with keyless which I never understood. Is that something that can be one, i see you did it to the truck. It would be cool do to it like the '89 town car in the trim panel.

    • @tonyscarcare5657

      Keyless wasn't available on the full size Ford and Mercurys until 92. It can definitely be done but it takes a lot of patience. If you go to my channel and click on videos you can start by watching "adding factory Ford keyless entry to OBS Ford truck video 1 step 1", and then follow the other video steps and it will give you an idea of what you have to do to make it happen.

    You seem to know your way around these trucks.. got a question for you. I just picked up a 86 f250 with dual tanks. They both work, however my gas gauge reads backwards (empty is full and full is empty) and my tank select switch is also backwards, so when my switch says rear it’s really front and vice versa. Any ideas on the problem and how to solve? Thanks

    • @tonyscarcare5657
      @tonyscarcare5657  ปีที่แล้ว

      I really don't know. It sure sounds to me like someone has been messing with it that didn't know what they were doing and has something switched around backwards. I'm not sure how because everything only plugs in one way.

      @@tonyscarcare5657 I had Eddie Bauer Bronco's in the day.(89, 95). Drove both them and p/u's. In hilly western PA living or any towing with a 5.0 was miserable. Personally I had 5.8's and while the 89 with a C6 was a fuel pig, the 95 E4OD truck was amazing...still had all the torque and would knock back 16mpg at a steady 80. 18mpg at 70. Yours is a beautiful truck...my favorite Ford's beside the 79's. But there was a much better choice when it comes to drivetrain. The AOD 5.0 years the trans was also marginal.
