You're right about Roger's & Hammerstein. The song appears in the 1956 version of the film 'Carousel' - Lyn
With a different tune😀
Gerry and the Pacemakers version really made it popular in the U.K. He passed away not long ago.
Ah yes, rest in peace Gerry- as a child saw him and the pacemakers filming on the ferry across the Mersey 🏴
Mark this was taken as Liverpool football clubs song, after it was sung by gerry and the pacemakers ... Watch it sung by 95k supporters when they played down in Australia (on TH-cam) xx
Definitely, it'll make you cry
Liverpool Football Club suffered a terrible tragedy at Hillsborough Stadium. I think it made the song very special to both fans and players.
Really...I need to look this up
Sorry but Liverpudlians do love to bang on year after year about the Hillsborough disaster as if its only the only city that has ever suffered. What about Bradford ? Do they harp on about the 56 that died there in 1985 ? Oh you probably have forgot about that ? Probably because Bradford doesn't feel the need for constant pity and had moved on ?
@@geoffw8565hope you never lose a relative to the ineptitude of a pathetic police force who clearly were totally responsible for the death of 97 people- all covered up by a rabid Tory government led by that harpie thatcher and blatant lies told by a Tory rag namely the s.n- easy to blame the dead they can't defend themselves can they? And if it wasn't for the families banging on about it all the evidence of changed statements, threats to police that were honest to tell what actually happened to alter their statements the truth would never have come out- so keep your southern ill informed bias to yourself pal
@@geoffw8565 Hi the Bradford disaster was to a sad and horrific day. And true it doesn't get as much publicity as the Hillsborough disaster.
@@lizstratton9689no because Bradford city fans weren't used as scapegoats for the crimes of the police, rabid Tory government and the rag of a newspaper that I won't name as it doesn't deserve the publicity: so yes the dead fans of Bradford city are to be mourned but so should the LFC fans who didn't nothing wrong but go to watch football and paid with their lives due to the actions of a poorly run police force- by the way the fans came from all over the country not just Liverpool, so your negative prejudice assuming they were all from the city doesn't hold water 🏴
I’m sitting here at home in Bedfordshire England watching this at midnight on my own, and this brings more then a tear to my eye. I love the Proms and have been lucky to have been to the royal Albert hall a couple of times; once with my teenage son 10 years ago at a space themed evening which had amazing scenes of space on a huge screen along with the music. My teenage son fell asleep 😂
Lol ah memories love it
The English and the French have had a very rocky history, to say the least, be we have to say that their national anthem is an absolute banger. On the other hand Liverpool FC (and other teams after) anthem is the greatest in the world
Sounds better at Anfield and i'm not even a Liverpool supporter
When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of a storm
There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
For your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
Very nice thank you
This is a bit 'arty' ........ you need to hear this sung by football fans of Liverpool or Glasgow Celtic
I agree. That made it difficult for people to sing along to.
I will now
This how its meant to be sung, from the musical Carousel. the version sung at Liverpool or Celtic is a toned down version
Just watched the COVID era version by Captain Sir Tom Moore with Michael Ball and the NHS Voices of Care Choir and found myself literally blubbing. It's a truly great song but there was something very special about this version during such a dark time. Sir Tom was Knighted personally by HM Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle in July 2021 but sadly is no longer with us having passed at the age of 100 due to COVID in February 2021. His charitable efforts during the pandemic raised over £33m. If you'd like to see the video for the song here's the title to search for "You'll Never Walk Alone - Captain Tom Moore, Michael Ball & The NHS Voices of Care Choir"....he is the oldest person in the UK to achieve a No.1 single in the music charts!! You'll Never Walk Alone - Captain Tom Moore, Michael Ball & The NHS Voices of Care Choir
Thank you
This song is best sung by the Liverpool FC supporters because its from the heart for supporters they lost the 97.
If you look up the story at why this is such a beloved song, it's because of a horrific sports tragedy at Hillborough Stadium.. You should watch the video from Australia where 95,000 fans at a soccer match sing it.. Nothing really beats it.. Tears and shivers you won't forget.. 🐦
Quite right for 'Carousel'
A version of this was also performed in Liverpool at last year's Eurovision in solidarity with Ukraine.
Mark, i love how you say its our channel, means alot, im guessing 90% or more are from the UK as your supporters, what i do find amazing, is that your american, learning british culture, yet for supporters are british, very few americans, trying to learn, there are some great channels, as you have highlighted, but again all those people supporting them are from the UK, Just shows, one how proud we are as a nation, and how, helpful we are as a nation, love your channel, you need your own TV show, you have that voice, calm, respect, about you
Very much appreciated Sean. Thank you
Just listen to Gerry and the Pacemakers version its the one Liverpool FC use.
Also have you listened to any of the Hammerstein prom. Its really good.
Also the other musical one with Sweeney Todd, Bryn Terfel is brilliant as Tod and funny. 🙂
The Australian - Liverpool match of You'll never walk alone is brilliant. However, it doesn't show the lyrics. You'd have a better chance of reading the lyrics by listening to Gerry & The Pacemakers version of the song.
Thank you Josie
great video mark, we have to give a nod to the 96, to which these now own this song,
Gerry and the pacemakers is amazing singing this song 🙋🏼♀️
the only one
Hi Mark , wonderful makes me feel everything's going to OK. We may have those stormy days but the sun eventually comes through in the end . 😊 Thanks Mark
Well said Clare
Mark. This is especially poiniant for Liverpool football club after the tragedy of the Hillsborough disaster, where 94 fans died in the crush, 30 years ago now, but was Liverpool's football anthem before that, since Gerry & the Pacemakers recorded it in the 1960's. They were a Liverpool group contemporary with the Beatles. The Hillsborough Northern Ireland is the Government building, just coincidently has the same name as the football stadium.
Yes Mark, all the fun stuff is on the last night each year. The other concerts are confined to the Royal Albert Hall, & are more serious Classical music evenings.
Very nice thank you for the info
Sorry that I have to correct you on the number of fans that died at Hillsborough. The number of fans was 96 died on the day, with 1 more dying from injuries he sustained that day and was in a coma until he died just recently 🙏.
96 people
Even fans that dont particularly like Liverpool FC admit the atmosphere when needed is special. Theres been been plenty of times where European giants have been turned to jelly at Anfield.
I'm not sure that in this seemingly disparate and fractious world we live in here in the UK now, we would still come together to sing such a song, but I would hope that all of us, all of the nations embedded in our great country and whoever we are, would find it in our hearts to do so. Robert, uk.
Every Brit knows the words to 'You'll never walk alone'.
Watched Liverpool, and this is their anthem, a couple of times from the Kop - pretty intense. Hillsborough was such a total tragedy it still resonates. The only other "club" anthem that really got to me was "Sunshine on Leith" (The Proclaimers) sung by the crowd when Hibernian won the 2016 Scottish Cup final - after 114 years of trying. Emotional.
Thank you
My mum was choosing her funeral song and she wanted “you’ll never walk alone”, and she made a point of telling us to tell everyone at her service that it’s from carousel NOT the football 🤣
i might use it formy funeral
The video from the Liverpool match is amazing
Mark, a tune (instrumental) you might enjoy is a video available on YT - sorry, I dont have a link to it - it's
"Fanfare For The Common Man" by Emerson, Lake and Palmer... I hope you'll listen, maybe React to it.,,and enjoy it.
😏🎵🎸🏴🎵❤️🇺🇲🎵🇬🇧❤🎹🎵🙂🖖
I’m a Man U fan, but this is sung better on the Kop. ❤
You do not need the words written down, the song is known by almost anyone.
Personally I'd call that a resounding flop (the singing, not your reaction) Missing the spirit, gusto and feeling so necessary and familiar
In Carousel, this is sung after the hero dies and his pregnant wife is worried about the future and again at the end after he has returned to Earth to see his little girl and is ready to leave because he knows she is going to be okay. Very moving.
❤ R.I.P 97 💞
Hope you are feeling better today - you've certainly got your old 'twinkle' back. Enjoyed this reaction too. Have a good day.
Yes! Thank you!
As commented by others here, this song is sung at Liverpool FC games. You should really take a look at the supporters singing this at the start of the Australian game. They always play the recording of Gerry & the Pacemakers, who had a hit single with their version, and you will see the passion of the Liverpool supporters as they sing along with their team anthem.
I will thank you
If you know who Dr Who is you might watch Dr Who at the promes. Some of the baddies turn up in the auditorium and the kids love it!!!
Deffo related to LFC. I do hope an aspiring YT has recorded/produced a vlog of Klopps final game. That would be awesome!! Thanks Mark.
Sunday just gone, I heard this being sung over and over again from Liverpool FC our beloved Manager was leaving, Jurgen Klopp is the best football manager in the world, the whole of Liverpool loves him, there were a lot of tears shed!!!
You really should listen to the fans sing it is done with far more feeling.
I've heard... Bummer
not as good as sung by football fans
It's amazing in Hyde park for the proms been a few times now
So cool
Hi mark, you really need to watch Gerry and the pace makers singing you'll never walk alone. Never reacted before but thought I just had to do it.
I will check it out
Hi Mark, I enjoy watching your videos and feel compelled to comment here to ask if you could please watch Liverpool Football Fans singing this at a stadium in Australia. During the footage, the camera often pans to one specific footballer, Steven Gerrard, as his 10 year old cousin was one of the 97 victims of the Hillsborough disaster, and was actually the youngest victim. Steven was 8 at the time. Reports always say 96 fans were killed, but it’s important not to forget the 97th who died in 2021 as a direct consequence of the injuries they sustained on that tragic day.
Although this video here was pleasant, it’s a little lacklustre (the people, not you!) it just lacks the passion, authenticity and deeply moving experience when sung by Liverpool fans. Please please please watch fans singing this song in Australia - the video should be easy to find on TH-cam.
I’m not asking you to make/ put out another reaction to the same song in this other video where the fans sing it, but if you just watch it for yourself and compare the two, I guarantee that you’ll see such a vast difference. If you think this is powerful, I think you’ll be left speechless when you see this other video of the Liverpool fans singing it. It’s incredibly powerful and moving and brings me to tears seeing so many people united, hearing them all sing with such passion, in this song which (in time) became used/ known for being an anthem to remember all the victims of Hillsborough and stand in solidarity with the football club and the family and friends of all those who died.
The difference between this video here and the video of the football fans in Australia is like night and day. I guarantee that you’ll see just how much this song/ anthem means to people. It’s a truly magnificent and beautiful thing to watch and hear, and I hope you have the opportunity to watch it at some point, regardless of whether you film a reaction to it or not.
Thank you th-cam.com/video/tAdMwv6n1Zo/w-d-xo.html
Watch the version with Michael Ball and Sir Tom Moore which they did to raise money for the NHS during the pandemic.
Will do thanks
Talking of covid for 2 years I was told to stay in because of health problems so it took another 2 years for me to go due to anxiety I am going out love your channel
Thanks for watching with me Margaret
Mark it came out in 1963 by Gerry and the pacemaker from Liverpool, my Antie brought it foe me one Christmas love it then and still now you should see when the football fan singing it at Liverpool. ❤
I will
Thanks, Mark.
It's a wonderful song.
Yes indeed
For fun at The Proms, have a look at Felicity Lott and Ann Murray singing Rossini's Cats' Duet.....I think it was 1996. Best version I have ever seen/heard!
thaat was beautiful
Nice video again buddy.
Thanks again!
Brilliant !!
Thanks
Lovely to hear this without the football connotations.
It’s one of those songs where everyone knows the words
This was played at my brothers funeral, he was 24 😢
Oh gosh so sorry to read this. I pray that you and your family find peace
As usual you are right Mark, Rodgers and Hammerstein from the musical Carousel- yes been the Liverpool FC anthem for many ,many years- we've just lost our manager Jürgen Klop after 9 years ,he's going home to Germany- after the great Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley, the best manager we've ever had - not only a great manager but a lovely man too: that rendition was top notch- it's sung at every Liverpool home match and it's such a lovely song - yet another good one Mark ,you never let us down ,ever ! Take care mate, hope the shoulder is nearly fixed(- by the way, where's our Violet lately? Is she still hogging the new couch? ) Look forward to Sunday: have my roast and settle down for it! X 🏴
The singing of YNWA on Sunday for that last game was amazing!
@@joan783wasn't it just? He will be missed bless him
Yep still on the couch LOL. Thanks Carol
