    The harmonics are dreadful. It's like the music is going one direction and the singing is going another.

      I agree, however, I actually like hearing the storm in this version. Though I prefer the original, "variety is the spice of life" and I really like Susan Bullok's singing! How do you like this one?: th-cam.com/video/UfJV7n3zFuI/w-d-xo.html

    Don’t get me wrong, I love Sue Bullock and adore Ed Gardner - no reflection on them but this is such an appalling arrangement. U fortunately for the poor arranger the original is near perfect in its anthem if form and can’t be improved upon. It is just further proof, if proof were needed that the BBC ARE UTTERLY CLUELESS when it comes to events like this. For one, at no point is the poor arranger mentioned. What was their brief???? Whatever, they should have had the musical integrity to say no. There is no respect for the original and it’s context, and there is no music reason to indulge in such wanton behaviour. The BBC will kill the Proms as surely as they killing every intelligent thought or programme they have control over. And I don’t just mean serious music. I mean serious drama, sport, everything they touch they ruin. Run by morons for idiots.

    No emotion, this is a very emotional song......i always think of Hillsborough....beautiful song and singer...but no emotion, i love to hear Liverpool supporters sing out loud and proud....gives me goosebumps.

  • @michaelmiller1215
    @michaelmiller1215 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    However, I agree with the other comments-this is a terrible arrangement. Awkward modulations, the choir is unnecessary, and the intonation is dreadful. Stick to the basic arrangement; leave the Star Wars chords to the movies, and let the Soprano shine on her own.

    All those people singing together and this MOST WONDERFUL "song". It is almost more like a prayer to me ... I guess it is a prayer -- so hard to call it a song (to me). The acoustics? Fine. The magnificence of all those people singing together?: PRICELESS. Who gives a damn about the acoustics or whatever else negative thing can be said? No. It's wonderful.

      Jillian, I watched it again this morning (first time since 1/14) and, of course, I cried. It does something to my soul that only a couple of others can. All those people singing together ...

    What a terrible arrangement. They should have used the same version, correct harmonies and all, as was used in the movie 'Carousel.' It sounds as if whoever made this awful orchestration was trying to be too clever by half but failed miserably.

    @vivaamerica2011 The proms aren't really owned by the BBC (even though they are called the BBC proms). In a manner of speaking they are owned by the country and I suspect if BBC America wanted to air them the would need to pay top dollah!!
    Sorry I'm probably talking nonsense.

    I'm not sure what you call what you play, and you play it quite well I suppose. But it's not football. Depending on where you are from, football is either soccer, Rugby or (here) Aussie Rules. All are played without helmets and body armour. I suggest you watch some TH-cam of Wales V England Rugby to get some idea of what it's like - and listen to the singing before and during the match.

  • @t0byr
    @t0byr 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's not true. This song was first used in football by Liverpool after Gerry and the Pacemakers (from liverpool) released their version, and the chart was played before matches and the fans used to sing it, and when it went out the charts they carried on singing and from then on it was adopted at liverpool. It was then adopted by other clubs like celtic after they saw it sang at liverpool.
    Just because you don't like liverpool, doesn't mean you have to make stuff up!

    @XL2man I assure you, Sir, that most Americans do not "want" Lady Gaga, either in their ears or any place else! Sadly, we do not support the arts nearly as much as we should. That's why we turn to our British cousins for well done arts. Sad but true.

    The people in the crowd with the Liverpool FC flag and the Red Liverpool scarves encapsulates in one moment why the football club is completely unique and special compared to all other clubs.
    What other club would have fans at an event like this, which is a completely different kind of thing to a football match, turning up with clubs flags and scarves to wave during their song?
    The answer is no other club.
