Be a shame not to go on the hovercraft whilst you are there. Quick trip to the IOW and back just for the experience. You won't be able to do that anywhere else. The IOW itself is worth a look too, a beautiful little island.
Ted Weaver Hello Mark. The Ferry at the start of the video was a 'Brittany Ferries' service (french) which operates across the English Channel to France.Your son would have crossed over from Ireland over a different sea -the Irish sea
It’s funny because I remember the dockyard as a small child as a Royal Naval dockyard. Which part of it still is. And been especially frightened by the figurehead that you were reading about.
LOL it was a little creepy
He certainly got hot weather on his trip!
He did...a little rain in Edinburgh but that was it.
Not been to pompey since the late 70s on a school trip to IOW. HMS Victory then went over on the hovercraft. Great memories.
Very nice. Thank you
To "just reach out and touch it", Mark, you would need fairly long arms, it's about 16 miles distant! (The whole "debacle about social distancing" was a farce, IMO!)
LOL totally was. Thanks Mik
This was an amazing interview with Jane. I have subscribed to her channel ❤
Yay, thank you!
It wasn't Nigel Farage who was responsible for the abuse its newspapers who are playing politics and some tv stations and I believe one maybe two candidates which now have been disowned, but as Nigel is the leader he has got to take the can back for others misdemeanors.🧐
Thank you for the info
Hi Mark, the words you couldn't read on the plaque were hulk, which is an old ship moored in a harbour minus masts sails and guns, most hulks were used as prison accommodation . The ship she was tender to was HMS Excellent. A lighter is a small ship used to ferry people or goods out to ships or around the harbour.
Thank you Nick
One thing he didn't mention is that the spinnaker tower has a glass panel in the floor that you can stand on and look straight down to the ground. It took me 10 minutes to pursued my missus to stand on it. It's a bloody long way up. ✌🏻🇬🇧😂
Haha Coot. Good to hear from you

Try the Daily Mail. I read it online. I think its in the US as well as Donald once mentioned it and a lot of American readers often comment on their stories. Its free but they ask readers to subscribe to read some popular articles. It carries massive adverts but I dont know if that would apply to you. There is also the Daily Express. Some American naval officers (in white uniforms) were around Buckingham Palace around the time Cooper would be there. According to one London video on you tube.
Thank you George
Mark, you definitely have to stay, the dockyard will take a long time on it's own, there's also the D Day Museum, Portchester Castle, the Royal Armouries at Fort Nelson and all the interesting places around here. Portsmouth and the local area really need a week at least. Of course, depending on the time of year, a visit to Fratton Park for a match or, at the very least, a stadium tour is a must.
Thanks for the info. Not sure I would have that much time but their seems to be many options.
Most places of interest, like Portsmouth have a Tourist Office - and information on line too - to tell you what's available to see, opening times and prices of hotels/B&B's. You could send off/email them for leaflets etc and then make a list of the 'must see' places on your trip.
Good idea JJ Thank you
HMS Warrior was the first iron battleship. Portsmouth is the Royal Navy's main base, because it's great harbour is shielded by the Isle of Wight from the worst weather, but also any enemy naval force. So much of the City of Portsmouth is new because it was very heavily bombed during the 2nd world war. The railway & motorway routes from London are direct & not too far, & the restrictions of the Covid times will no longer apply, so pre-booking may not be necessary now. On the eastern edge of Portsmouth Harbour is Portchester Castle, a well preserved 3rd century Roman Fortress, with a Medieval Castle inside, the original of these harbour defences. The Mary Rose was sunk between Portsmouth & the Isle of Wight during an attack by the French, probably by cannon fire from a French Galley, as shown in an old picture of the event. Some think it sank when trying to turn too quickly with it's gun ports open, but this is a bit unlikely, & the picture clearly shows guns being fired at her at near point blank range from the galley. Unfortunately the part of the ship that was most likely hit & holed is long gone, as only that half that became embedded/buried in the bottom silt survived, the parts in the water having eroded away over the years since the sinking.
Oh wow...first hearing this. Thank you
It would definitely be worth spending the night there. After a day exploring the city and museums there's plenty of pubs and restaurants on the seafront if you like watching ships come and go. The car ferries to several French ports are a regular sight and if you are lucky maybe see warships heading to the naval base which is a bit further down the estuary than is shown here.
So cool. Thank you
Is this a re upload or am I tripping
My first time... Watched a different one of visiting HMS Victory with the German couple.

Mate, go i live here it's beautiful
Awesome
Hi Mark , hope your Coopers doing OK and having a good trip hes been lucky with the weather so far 😊.
Hi Mark. Portsmouth is on my doorstep. In fact I worked out of the dockyard for 15 years on the ferries. It's a great place to visit and it's so compact and easy to navigate. It would be a long day but the traveling from London would be too much. You would realistically need an overnight stop over to take it all in at leisure. There's so much to see and you would just keep getting sidetracked. Darren's video covered the dockyard area and Old Portsmouth but that's the southern end of Portsmouth city, and that's another whole day at least. Hope you get there, it's worth it for the history and the views.
Thank you
The train takes around 1 hour 20 minutes from London Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour. The dockyard is a couple of minutes walk away.
Awesome I'm doing that
Love Darren he gives value for money so to speak! Have subbed to his channel after his Mersey tunnels review, he knows his stuff - hope he does the actual historic dockyards next,as having been there about 20 years ago would like to see if it's changed any - yes election coming up, plan to vote as the polls open,as you know like you I'm an early riser! Take care mate, snog the mogs x 🏴
Yes, waiting for a dockyards video, definitely. Be great to see a video of in and around Duxford air museum too.
@@no-oneinparticular7264Good one
That would be great
It's a great place Mark you'd love it!
Just a comment to help the algorithm. Thankyou for the lovely video .
Thanks for that!
That is a cross channel ferry running from Portsmouth to Ouistrum (Caen). The Irish Sea Ferries are very similar in design and size, so that is near enough what your son travelled on.
Thanks for the info!
The Times is the best and most intelligent newspaper there is. Just news Its basically the poshest paper there is. Conservative....our Tory not your conservative. Election.....oh god Labour will get in....im hyper ventilating...the thought of it is terrifying...😂😂 I got the feeling even Trump was slightly shocked by Bidens senility. The man clearly Has dementia. Both my parents had dementia for a while before they died. They were identical to him. Very sad and cruel actually. Know what j was shocked at your sons itenary. Too much. Ireland has miles of travelling between important places ..and to be really honest...its not for teenagers unless youre in a City....i mean im Irish and Im happy to say that😊...it was ridiculous for the time frame. Once they were here it would be far easier. Our new PM will be Sir Keir Starmer. He flip flops constantly in his beliefs and is a lawyer.....i was marfied to one.....ill say nowt😂😂😂😂
Lol thank you
Roll on July 5th, when all the dirty tricks campaigns in politics hopefully stop.
Amen
Price of electricity, we pay a 30% surcharge that contribute towards renewable sources. Our tax is at the highest level since WW2. We are not that happy about it as the services we receive leave a lot to be desired.
Thank you
The Times is a serious newspaper. Conservative politically. It's just about the last serious Conservative newspaper as all the other Conservative ones have gone extremist right wing (Mail, Express, Telegraph). The Times also runs a talk radio station which is very good and I listen to it regularly.
Sorry, the Times and Sunday Times online is blatantly left wing . It has changed beyond all recognition as a serious source of media.
Thank you
Hi again Mark... So there you go, being a parent of a teen is different again to parenting a younger more dependent child, as you're now discovering ?! As much as you are slowly learning to let go, whilst still naturally inhabiting the "protective parent mode", Cooper is learning to (in a way, a different way but still, a way) parent you too. His Mom can do the Mom-bit, staying in touch and keeping the facts to let you know all's well, but let him be, let your son become a little more independent, a little more grown up - but don't worry, I can imagine given your family bonds, Cooper is not growing _away_ by growing _up_, if that makes sense. He will bring you his news in his way, in his time, as he sorts out his feelings as to his experiences...and all because you have raised him, with his Mom, to be the young man he is becoming, whilst still +and always will be) yoyr baby boy...not so long ago, not really... Teenagers still have - hopefully - many years ahead and every moment brings a new way of experiencing life in ways _you've_ never even dreamed of. The future: "what, flying cars 'n' that?!" (A quote from comedian Sarah Millican, talking to her then fiance-to-be (also a comedian, Gary Delaney) "...about the future"!! But, where are our flying cars, hm?!! Our future lies not (yet?!) with flying cars, but with our children, our offspring, as they negotiate the world, it's innovative, creative, sensitive experiences, all new to us, as well, and as we age, we look to our young and marvel at how they see and live with our future...but you know what, Mark? Our young folks can live their better lives, see and experience things we haven't and may / may not, but they can and will cope with the changes because of how we raised them, so be proud of yourself (I know you're already proud of your son and your wife...but be proud of yourself too, because Cooper is teaching you how to let go, and let him find adulthood on his own terms, in his own time, and thus teaching you to stand back and proudly say... That _young man_ is my son. He will thank you for it by being the best he can be, for you, for his Mom, for himself...and _that_ is successful parenting. Well Done Mark. 🥂🍷🍻🏆🥇 You stood back, you kept yourself from pummelling Cooper with try this, go there, see that advice... That took a lot of effort and maybe a little "hurt feelings" that texts went to and from Mom, instead of Dad...but he's saving it up and that'll be the party, get the snacks ready, the drinks, the pizza? And get ready for the avalanche of super stories, terrific tales, wonderful weekends full of "oh Dad and then...!!" What a great bonding / rebinding that will be. I almost envy you that experience. Two of mine have flown the nest, one to the next town (or a few!!) over (we're in London, SE6, 🏴 my son, his partner and their ginger cat, 'Oliver', live in London, SE5, 🏴!!) ...but my eldest lives in _Canada_ with her rescued dog, b/W Collie cross (?!) 'Milo'...so _not_ a simple bus ride away...! 🇨🇦❤ (Sorry for the rather long comment...nothing ti do with The Times per se. But you looked a little forlorn re Cooper's lack of communication during his visit to the UK, so I wanted to try to cheer you up.., my apologies if I overstepped there...er..mark, Mark? 🤔🖖
@@brigidsingleton1596 I needed to hear (read) this more than you know. Thank you. You had me tearing up a little...not gonna lie. Thank you again my friend. Love this
Our political system is that each party has a leader, the leader of the winning party becomes PM. Nigel Farage is now the leader of Reform, due to the short notice of the election, he has decided to stand. The MSM likes to portray him as the villain. One Channel tried a sting on him and it backfired. Until he arrived on the scene it was pretty boring. He has added a tempo to the election. We shall be voting on Thursday the 4th July. Polling closes at 10pm. I have a bottle of gin and plenty of fags (cigarettes) at the ready, as our votes are counted as soon as possible. It should be interesting and I suspect throw up a few surprises. Our polls are all over the place. Love it. I will be voting Reform.
Lol love it Catherine
Mark, The Times one is not free. Therefore I only read it when a copy when really important things happen. Prince Philips death, the Queen's death, King Charles coronation. As a sidenote have you seen Mark Felton's newish vid that asks the ? did Churchill do the stolen valor in WW2 with his military medal aquiring whilst no longer in the military. Mild spoiler my ? to him, unansweredm was why didn't you have George VIth included in the title as well. Princess Anne btw is better and home from the hospital.
Thank you
Hi Mark. Dan from York here again. Armed Forces Day. There are lots of events around the country marking the day, but many ran yesterday because of the weekend. These include flypasts, forces display teams of all sorts, marches & parades in many towns. The Japanese Emperor was here on a State visit to King Charles, more military parades etc in London. The US election, one paper calls the debate 'a baby-man versus a doddery old man', quite appropriate I would say. Our election looks like a sure thing for the Labour Party, Sunak & the Conservatives will be out soon it's pretty sure. you'll know about Princess Anne injury & hospital stay, kicked by a horse at her home apparently. The Sunak children thing, some possible Reform candidate or supporter said some racist stuff it seems that upset Sunak, but it might have been a 'plant' by one of the tabloids. The new Reform party, led now by Nigel Farage, are above the Tories in the opinion poles apparently, but they don't have enough candidates around the country to get into government. The Times is a serious news paper, it's been around since the 18th century, one of the oldest in the world. One would have to call it right wing, or at least middle of the road politically, though it's stance is meant to be neutral. Russel Brand was notorious here also before you knew him in the States. He would be called Lefty lovey, but seems to have mellowed a bit recently. Wimbledon starts next week I think. Murray is again doubtful through injury fears, & young Raducanu is also a bit unlikely. Note the Cricket tournament going on in your country just now, England are not doing so well, I don't know the score for the US team.
The Times and Sunday Times are left wing newspapers. Proof positive now it wasn't a Reform candidate, but a paid undercover actor ( his own words). Police interviewed C4 about it.
Nice Dan thank you. I've heard about the cricket but it's nowhere in the news
I am non political and the reason i do not vote is because non of the candidates are telling me the truth and due to my 76 years i have witnessed the same rhetoric, platitudes, generalizations [in order not to have to answer a question direct] spin doctors and out and out lies and i am not alone, more and more people know full well that the promises they make can not be honoured if future events change circumstances which they always do. The problem is that our politicians know that but still make the promises at election time with the only aim to gain votes which give them the lucrative position of being in government. The corruption scandals of late are insults to the intelligence of the people and America has its own problem. The point is the elitist system of rule and control has run its race and the vested interests have no intention of looking seriously for a new system hence the saying in many countries that "the system is broken" which may take us down a dangerous road.
Thank you Charles
Glad Cooper had a hopefully good time ! I know that feeling about wanting ones own bed, tea and grub,! There is definitely a conspiracy against the Reform party, check out channel 4's blatant lies using actors- as the streaky said there are a lot of unanswered questions - think it's because the powers that be feel threatened by common sense ! Scared of losing their cushy number, but only have themselves to blame Mark as the good people of this country have had enough of being second best in their own land- anyway, enough of all that, give my regards to Cooper when you next see him as he probably won't emerge for a week! Love to all, especially felines x🏴
Thank you
The way the media has launched this (clearly) coordinated attack on Farage just makes me want to vote Reform more. It's interesting they're attacking him for a thing somebody else said, and covering for the person who said the thing and his acting union (Equity) isn't throwing this actor under the bus like they did Laurence Fox when he said much less sketchy things. I'm not one who believes in conspiracy theories, but I have serious questions.
This sounds familiar
@streaky81 👍I couldn't have put it better myself, you have hit the nail on the head.🧐
I do hope that young Cooper has a safe, uneventful flight, and that he had a good time in the UK. (PS. sorry about the weather!)😀😀😀(It does sound like they tried to squeeze too much into the visit!)
Thank you. Ya but he got to see a lot... Maybe he'll want to go back
🇬🇧🇺🇸🇺🇦 hi Mark, we have just returned from 5 days at the coast (it’s been very hot in the U.K. this week) and now catching up on our channel- this interview with Jane was both informative and moving so thank you and hopefully you will arrange another soon. I was lucky to be able to visit Poland many times through my job and remember going just after the independence from Russian occupation and I feel for Jane as certainly in Poland in those early days of freedom life was extremely challenging and through my trips you could see the rapid progress into a western style life and the people so happy to be able to come into a much better life. Loved the interview- great choice ….. Terry
Thank you Terry
York is the best....So much to do and see with so much history.
Thank you
Hi mark, just going baack through some of your older stuff, i love your attitude and how you present. The cockney slang is also going to be a hard, because it quite often is slang within a slang, like others had said, a older slang for knickers is draws, and the lady godiva is the fiver, the fiver being used alot as slang, but other names exist for money. here is a few slang for money might help One pound - Nicker, quid, squid, smacker. Ten pounds - Tenner. Five pounds - Fiver, bluey (because they are blue in colour) 25 pounds - Pony. 50 pounds - Half a ton, bullseye. 100 pounds - a Ton. 500 pounds - Monkey. hope it helps
Thank you

London is for most tourists the first choice to visit.....but surely Canterbury shouldnt be missed 😊
Thank you
Why would he be in Buckingham. That is 50 miles from London?
Lol Palace
Finally a top 10 that doesn't include London, Yay. Scratched the surface of the UK, but OK.
Thank you
Hi Mark, you know what they say, "no news is good news!", Cooper's having too good a time to get in touch with dad. The RLNI have just dropped a video, "Silver Medal Rescue, How the Penlee Lifeboat saved eight lives in a Storm". These men have some pretty big boots to fill after the Solomon Browne disaster! Right, now to watch Cara and Jeremy.
Awesome
