7:38 Kyde talks about the scent of the place and I think the plant behind her is a type of jasmine, so no wonder. They smell tropical and can fill a wide area with their scent. The plants with the rubbery leaves and strange seed pod are types of lotus.

I don't know if you learned since this video since it is a couple years old, but the big shrine you went to is Kashima Jingu. It is a very important shrine in martial arts as it enshrines a deity of martial arts, Takemikazuchi-no-Ōkami. It is also where the early 16th century school of martial arts Kashima Shinto Ryu comes from. Kashima Shinto Ryu was developed by Tsukuhara Bokuden (his family were part of the institution of the shrine, and he learned his family martial arts when he was young and living in the area), one of the most famous warriors in Japanese history, and the only to be given the title of "sword saint." In many traditional dojo there will be a hanging scroll for Kashima Jingu and Katori Jingu (another shrine very important in martial arts located in Chiba prefecture) in the shomen (the main focal point) of the dojo.

I just spotted one of my favourite movie cars at minutemark 22 where Kyde is describing her favourite car with the doughnut in it. Right next to it is a 1967 Toyota 2000 GT cabriolet from the Bond movie "You only live twice". Only 2 cars were made within two weeks time because during filming they realised that the roof was too low for Shaun Connery. :D

My dad owned a 1971 Pantera(the orange one with the black hood inside the museum and also the one in the middle of the left hand page of the brochure @28:15), not rare, nonetheless still way cool ! He also rebuilt the original engine and added twin turbos to the 351 Cleveland.

    Some cool looking cars... :)

I started seeing your videos because of your disney videos, but I almost not believed it when I saw you guys coming to Ibaraki. I live in Kamisu, the neighboring city of Kashima, where you visited the deers temple. You passed pretty close to my house, near the car museum. I don't know why i'm so excited about that, but I loved. I do not see many vlogs about Kamisu, I think that's why. I hope you enjoyed the experience despite the rainy weather. I wish you have a better weather next time.

We have a little Asian-mix place here in Limerick run by a Thai family that makes a freaking amazing roast duck udon. Probably not very authentic but it's damn good, if you guys wind up coming to Ireland we'll have to go there. xD

Hi Eric, I noticed you seem to have no problem reading Japanese texts. How did you get better with memorizing all those words (especially Kanji)? I paused the video at 21:14 and am familiar with the Kanji words but it took me a long time to extract the sounds and pronunciation from my brain. I am currently learning Japanese on my own and I found out that, in the long run, knowing the characters and their pronunciation first is better than learning from a roman-ized version of the words.

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+Awang Budiman It's basically just daily study and reading. If you are learning Japanese I'd advise against ever using romaji and instead working on reading with kana and kanji. -E

@Kyde and Eric Sorry to hear Kyde took a rectangle noodle to the eye. When I came to Japan and realized the importance and acceptance of slurping noodles i went strong with my noodle slurping game, which on quite a few occasions resulted in noodle whiplash right into my eye. I never quite got down the repeated release/re-grab chopstick/noodle technique which probably would have prevented it.

Nanban means ゛barbarian from south”. When the first Europeans arrived at japanese southern islands from Southeast Asia , they saw hairy giants who drunk blood colour drink (wine) and ate beast meat. Since then, European were called southern barbarians. From then, ゛nanban゛ started to be used in a dish including animal or bird meat.

the car you didnt know the name of in red was a Lancia Stratos Very few made. Only enough sold to meet requirements as a production vehicle for rally racing. I'd keep my first born if I was offered to trade them but it'd be a hard decision lol. Kyde had excellent taste in "practical cars" the Toyota 2000GT is one of my top 5 dream cars. it was also a James Bond car in "You only live twice" which was set in japan, and was the only convertible version ever made. Sean Connery couldn't fit in it with the full roof so Toyota made a faux non functioning convertible top version in only a couple weeks to deal with his height (I'm sure Eric will appreciate that) . One of the later sailor scouts from sailor moon owned a convertible one in the cartoon too.
    I'm done car geeking now.

SO... 1) Eric, the alien pod plant thing from the beginning of the video, when Kyde was drumming on leaves, was a lotus pod. 2) Yes, Cyberdyne is the company from Robocop. 3) I was looking into it after Kyde mentioned, "Cyberdyne," like... "wait, that sounds like Robocop, is this real?" and found that the robotic support legs y'all were looking at is called HAL, like HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey... I appreciate that they must be movie nerds working there, but I feel like they're one step away from making a product called, "sky net," or "terminator."
    FUN

In this video Kyde references the same season of Rick & Morty ("show me what you gottttt") I did in a necropost so I feel better now having assumed it was something you guys may have enjoyed. You referred to the pulled meat from that restaurant as "a panty dropper" so here's a recipe for some amazing pulled pork: 1 tbsp canola oil
5 pounds pork butt (shoulder roast) cut into 2-inch slices
    2 tbsps minced garlic
    1 tsp minced ginger
2 cups water, more if needed
    ⅓ cup soy sauce
    ⅓ cup brown sugar
    ¾ cup white (shiro) miso
Heat canola oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat until hot.
Sear pork slices until well browned on both sides, then remove.
Stir in the garlic and ginger, cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
Add the water, soy sauce, brown sugar, and miso; bring to a simmer, scraping the bottom of the pan to dissolve the caramelized juices.
Place pork into pot, add additional water if needed to cover pork with the sauce.
Then, reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 3 hours until the pork is tender, and the sauce has thickened.
shred with forks - if you have a mixer does it with less effort
the shredded meat should soak up the sauce.
