I just bought my first fly tying kit from Doaktown, New Brunswick, i've fly fished for two years now and I can't wait to tie my first fly. Amazing content. Learning a lot on this channel. Thank you!!
Some Atlantic Salmon Flies find their way west. Since blue is the color best seen by fish in murky water it has found a place out here. What a pretty fly!
Thabk you so much! This is a beautiful fly but also one that is very functional around the world for many different species. One I always have in my fly box.
@@flytyingwithrichlamonte absolutely. I also carry that fly, however tied with hair. I really want to try tying this as you do. I tie classic trout flies with feathers, but the wings are so hard to get right. I will try your method.
The underwing helps a lot. You can also try moistening the mallard a bit before tying it in. One more thing is to have right sized feathers - mallard is stiffer at the brown part so you should always tie it as close to the stem as possible. That's where it's the softest and stays better in one piece.
I’ve only tied one classic salmon fly with Ron Alcott; it was the Jock Scott. I like to watch classic pattern tiers since you can pick up some tips and tricks here and there which help you on your trout fly tying. Nice job! I wish the background noise was eliminated, it sounds like you’re under the wing of a jet plane.😊
Sorry for the backround noise. Tbose are my oxygen concentrators. I was struggling with a terrible lung disease. I just had a lung.transplant a couple months ago so its nice and.silent in my videos now.
@flytyingwithrichlamonte understood , I have a bunch of kimono silk I wonder how similar they are I know kimono is supposed to be similar to pearsalls. I had one other question is there an easier salmon or spey/dee pattern you'd start with for display tying ? And for that pattern is there a hook you'd suggest ?
Wonderfully patient in your tying. Makes me want to start tying the classics!
Another great looking fly, great job Rich. Really looking forward to the next one. Thanks for sharing.

A great tie Rich, thanks for this. Very enjoyable to watch, and I will tie this one next!
You make these salmon fly's so easy. I thought the wing looked fine. I'm sure you a perfectionist.
Hahaha. Yeah im a bit of a perfectionist. Even on my fishing flies.

Dude, nothing but amazing. Your mallard wing game makes me so jealous!!!
Thanks my friend!!! Don't be jealous. I went through a few feathers and 3 videos to get it right. Lol
Awesome pattern.
Nice Blue Charm Rich! Great video! 👍
Thanks Dutch!!!
Beautiful work. Inspired me to try as well.
A trus classic, nicely done.
Very nice job! Head is just superb, not quite as dramatic as a Jerome Malloy head; this looks more like a Jorgensen head.
Thanks Don!!! I greatly appreciate the kind words. Thank you also wor watching and subscribing!!! Hope you are well!!!
That's a very nice job on the mallard wing l tried it but without the under wing l just give up it was a disaster
Thats why I use the underwing. I went through a couple pair of mallard before setting the small underwing. Ever since its much easier.

@@flytyingwithrichlamonte I Hope You are better now. Wonderful video, regards from France
It is very unfortunate that you do not show a materials list. The fly is gorgeous and you explain the pattern quite well. Please add the materials.
Thank tou. Material list has been added to the description!
Can I ask what brand and type of Japanese silk you're using ? This is awesome
Of course. I use Kyoto silk. You can find it on etsy

Rich does that twisted ribbing come that way or do you have to make it?
This comes this way. Its medium silver twist made by Uni-French.
Great tie! What is your fill material called? Ty
The material for the underbody is called wooly nylon. You can order it off Amazon. 1 spool will last years!!!!
Sweet
Love it 👌👌👌
