Williams legendary technique, actually not much followed today. his total precision and nuances, his Fleta, the film direction, the orchestral applomb under Previn baton, the elegant applause of the audience and, last but not least, the John modesty, make this Aranjuez the most memorable. Grazie from Italy!

I could hear it a hundred times. It's perfect, the most perfect interpretation. Williams is my hero.

What an absolute rare gem of an upload. Williams at his interpretive and technical best, a combination that has yet to be equalled. Fantastic orchestra with maestro Previn at the helm. This, and Paco de Lucía's 'definitive', incredibly soulful version rank at the top...subjective yes, but I think reasonable. Thank you so much for uploading this!

Thank you very much for the uploading. Previn and Williams made several recordings. Here, Williams was at his peak of interpretation.

      Absolutely.

And yet, Previn recorded the concerto with Angel Romero from around the same time. A fine performance as well.

@@brtherjohn a great player also. I prefer the Wiliams execution, though. Because of his marvelous technique he plays the concerto as if it were very easy. He is precise and perfectly executed. My second option is by Pepe Romero, who gives a very spanish feeling. Those are my favourites.

John Williams has nerves of steel too , the conductor knew as john walked out he would produce the good s cause can you imagine the pressure, !!!! but he is so incredibly well trained he can withstand it all with ease , just amazing

No other guitarist comes close to Williams' interpretation of this concert, no one.

I heard in a discussion that Angel Romero was considered the king of Aranjuez by other guitarists including J. Williams. Compare the energy and speed between them and you'll see the difference.

So brilliant performed. But Williams is Williams. His Fleta guitar sounds so great. What a guitar and guitarplayer as well.

Remarkable! Sounded flawless to me. Williams, to me, sounds so much better on the Fleta guitar. He also seemed to use more of the timbres available on the guitar

I personally feel the tone colour of the Smallman on the later recorded version of the second movement on the album the Seville Concert sounded superior.

One can hear the guitar all the way through, which is far from true of some recordings.

  •  2 ปีที่แล้ว

This is his first performance of Aranjuez ??

  • @allanwells4886

I saw Williams perform this in 1971 at the Sydney Town Hall; what a disappointment. I'm sure he played well but I couldn't hear the guitar at all. He was using a microphone but to little or no effect. I love this performance with that wonderful Ignacio Fleta guitar.

God knows why he is playing those hideous Oz guitars. If he bought a Yamaha everyone would follow suit.

He was born in oz ,but ya the fleta has such a sweet voice in his hands , smallman more volume
