I found the ending both sad and cute. Sad because these poor children died horribly by the hands of their parents and had to accept the people they loved were horrible, but cute because of the way they all waves at Ron from their respective crime scenes, and sat all together in a surely happier (after)life.
I think the thing that gets me most is that the mom didn’t break her promise to him. She did take the day off to take care of him and THATS when she finds his body. Because she works during the day and is home only at night.
Everything at the start of the game foreshadows the end of the game really like how the gift box where the doll was in foreshadows our coffin at the end of the game because they both have the same pattern and color
Watched Kubz Scouts play this recently. This has to be one of the saddest games I've ever seen. That twist genuinely caught me off guard and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it I hope the developer goes on to have a very successful career because this game was exceptionally powerful. It's amazing the stories and concepts indie games are allowed to tell without the interference from Triple A publishers

We're probably never seeing Ron again since he's finally moved on. It would be cool to see a game that pins a mom as the villain instead of a dad where instead of drinking, it was maybe an addiction to a drug or she could be cheating on a good dad or it could be a car accident where a dad dies and it turns the mom into a monster like the dad.

People don’t seem to get Mr red face is the sons excuse for his father, he makes Mr Redface the evil guy to not make it his dad, but Ron tries to tell him it’s his dad who is Evil and is finally able to show him what Mr redface did to Ron, what his Dad did to him.

When drunk your face is all red and flustered, that was the last thing he probably saw before he died but because his memory reseted so many times he thinks it's Mr Red face who's the bad guy instead of his own abusive father.
I had a theory (it’s pretty dark tho) “The birthday theory” What if ron died on his own birthday, remember on the first night when you are introduced to your mom and dad what if on that night was the fight that ended up with Ron’s parents divorce/ the mom leaving and resulting in Ron’s death, that’s when Mr red face first appears we see Mr red face (the dad) waving the doll around (probably referencing the dad choking Ron to death/ then walking to the closet and putting Ron’s body in the closet) remember when we see our death for a split second we can see Mr red face with the doll if this is true it would make the game much darker (further proving my case when Ron wakes up on the first day he first haunts his dad then goes over to help his mom (on the second day)/ sorry this is a little too much but it seems like a good theory!! (Sorry if there are spelling mistakes😭)

Me and my sis were in highschool and my 2 brothers were little. We had each other luckily. We still deal with it years later because our parents refuse to cooperate and get along.

One thing that makes the ending feel worse for me you see how the mothers neck is well I guess broken at 8:56 and also the kids neck is broken at 13:36 it may hint at the idea that the sadness got to the mother leading her to commit suicide in the grief of loss.

No its to mimic the way she found him, when she found him she turned her head the way his head was tilted/broken showing that when she found him that day, he was already dead and his neck was crooked, the dolls making him see the mom that way to make him realize it bc the mom speaking to him is not real, its his hallucination.
I don't understand why the mother didn't just take the child immediately after demanding a divorce. She knows that her husband is a physically violent drunk who wants to hurt her, so why would you leave your defensless child with him? It was hard to sympathize with the mother because she had a hand in the abuse as well.

Of course, she's definitely in the wrong hands aswell. She forgot her OWN son's birthday, broke her promise and not the only time she has and more. Also the son gets beaten and hit by his father so it's pretty much proof that the mother although cares but neglects her son. She wasn't supposto be innocent or sympathized

Since his parents neglect them, I think they hardly ever go to the grocery store to get the child food, and he might have an eating disorder because it looked like there was beans in a bowl, which isn’t a very proper meal. It helps with iron but it’s not really a good meal to eat. But the mom note shows that the mom pretty truly cares about Ron. But… I think the doll didn’t actually make the food re-appear, I think the doll made it disappear. But in reality, I don’t really think Ron ate it. 0_0
whilst this may be a good theory, i think the food reappeared because Ron was already dead at the time, and his mother could only see him at day, so she just thought he was not eating
What would have made the story even more detrimental would be more insight on the father's neglect on Ron. Like: seeing how Ron goes around the house every time, hungry and bored expecting his dad to do something for him - only to see his dad sleeping with a beer bottle in his hand. Never waking up until extremely late.
I like the lack thereof better. A missing parent is worse than neglect. And I think that's what the game is trying to tell in a metaphorical and somewhat hyperbolic way, hence the lack of insight.
ok from all of the play throughs and explanations of this story, people seem to get wrong the time that the mom finds her son's dead body Basically, after the son's death, he (unknowingly) "haunts" each of his parents' room closet every night for 2 weeks The mom only comes home at night, so whenever she finds her son in her closet, she just thinks he's being weird The night that she finds her son's dead body is the 14th day after his death Basically the morning after she suggests she will "stay home instead of working for a day" And as Ron only haunts the rooms at night, his spirit was not active in the morning There was no "alternate reality" She did actually see his spirit for 14 days and thought it was the real Ron The loop stopped when Ron found the "spell" and threw it into the police station the evening after she found her son's dead body As far as she's aware, she still believed her son was alive for those 14 days, and that her ex-husband broke into the house to kill the son while he was sleeping on the 14th night

@@jerrythecat811 tbh i missed this, but yeah he's right. the doll mentioned it somewhere towards the end. notice how in ron's first trip to the closet, he sees his dad in an untextured room on a bed. that's ron unknowingly haunting his dad in the motel he's hiding in. he went there to "save" his dad, so at the end, we see ron's decaying corpse telling his dad to come home. which means those nights where ron is found by his mom in the closet were real, and that those are him haunting his mom as well. The thing is his mom doesn't know that he's dead. And since she only "comes home at night", she meets ron at his most active ghost state, making her believe that he was still alive for 14 days until she decided to lay off work and find out that ron's actually dead in the morning. It's amazing really.
I think when the food re-appear after Ron ate it, it isn't because the eating disorder he has or anything. In fact, it was NEVER been eaten because Ron is long dead and his mother thought that he was lazy eating so she wrote the letter. Little that she knows that her poor child could no longer eat and sitting inside the closet with no conciousness all by himself
As someone who had the displeasure of going through it, all I can say is, this game is incredibly accurate to how many abusive households are. Young children NEED to be a priority in our society, they NEED to be loved, nurtured, cherished and taken care of. Some people truly are undeserving of their children.
I got another thing to add. Another hint to ron being dead was when the doll led him to his parents through the closet using the radio. Yall know those videos with ghost hunters and their main source of communicating to ghosts is through radios? The frequencies and all that for the ghosts to talk to ppl or go to the other side. That also explains how from rons side all he sees is his dad shaking but cant understand why other than hes being punished but from the dads side hes able to see rons ghost.
As someone who just left a domestic violence situation, it hurts my heart that people see the mom as a bad parent. My step father was an abuser to everyone in the house including her, it’s taking a toll on her mental health and physical health. She had no family to help her out, and she had no where to go since we were living in his sisters house, the man has tried to kill my mother before, and was terrified to leave in the safety of us (us being me and my younger siblings) she worked nights and days back to back, and still got accused of cheating, something I can back her up on she was never doing, but he had video evidence, voice notes & mail, even the affairs of the women telling her that my step dad was cheating on her, but there was nothing she could do, his family is great with lawyers n cops, even on our birthday she felt awful that she didn’t get us anything because she was tight on money and was trying to get groceries and save for a new house, something they were both supposed to do, in the meanwhile he got a ps5 for himself, piercings, tattoos, got out to clubs and bars. While my mom worked, one day he takes the kids on a walk telling him he is going to take them away, and make sure that our mom is never to be seen again and that her being in the way will stop, saying he wouldn’t care if her and I lived on the streets, that he would beat them if my younger siblings told her anything, that night we left, and to this day we still think about what would’ve happened to her if she stayed there, everyday my mother is scared for her life that one day she’ll run into him, and he’ll act out on his impulse now that he has nothing to lose. Unfortunately there’s more to this sad story for my mom as I am only 17 years old and she doesn’t want me to ruin my childhood since I had to grow up so fast for my siblings. I wish to tell you we have a happy ending, but everything is still going on behind the scenes. Watching the gameplay shattered my heart, and I was having trouble breathing. The ending itself makes me appreciate that we got out of there in time..😕 we are still trying to make money for a house, but we are somewhere much safer, I’ve been trying to open art commissions and work on my game so I can make money off it and help my mother. There isn’t always a good end to everything☹️
the amount if foreshadowing is crazy in this game the loose neck for the doll the closet being the entrance to another dimension and the 3 kids showing how they died and the ''SPELL'' note is the key for the father to get caught by the cops after their argument when we see red face the first time and he gives the doll to Ron but that's actually when he kills the boy the bottle of beer that the doll drank from was actually the father
ACTUALLY the devs kinda did a poor job at explaining it BUT the mom was in fact able to see Ron’s ghost for 14 days. She was only home at night after work which is when his ghost was visible to her. Ron was going through his loop with the doll for those 14 and would tell his mom about each looped experience and his mom simply thought he was hallucinating. On the 14th night she promised Ron she would stay home from work and she actually did keep her promise. It’s just that since Ron’s ghost does not appear in the morning she was not able to see him lying in the husbands bed where she tucked him in the night before. This caused her to hurry over to ron’s room to look for him and that’s when she found the body. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS IS WHAT THR DEVS HAD IN MIND

@@bane8305 She’s just talking to his ghost thinking it’s the actual living him the whole time. The developers probably just thought it would interesting for the plot. But a lot of players don’t really get that this is happening because the Doll doesn’t really fully explain it. I only understood because I spent so much time trying to understand what the doll meant when explaining to Ron about seeing him.
7:071:13 (Theory) I think the corpse in the closet that the son saw while trying to get the right radio frequency is the mom the mom had black hair and so does the corpse and the sweater color looks very similar to the moms and the fact no one mentioned it not even the son or the doll is very suspicious like it wasent brought up at all I think this is leading into Bad parenting 2 and I think we’re going to play as the mom and have to deal with her coping with her sons loss
I saw a let’s-play. It made me want to cry. I’m pretty sure the developer made this game as a type of therapy. Such a sad journey, but incredibly fascinating and well done. I hope this opens an expansive and successful career for “Ahn” whoever that is.
I heard that the dev team will release the second part on the end of this year. Thats mean the game will have more storyline and deeper, also desipes and after the first story. They annouced it on itch after the release (the developer team are Vietnamese and im from Vietnam too so i can understand them)
People say the kids are where they died but I realised the kids where in the place they were hidden Ron died on a bed but got put in a closet 1 of them were hidden in the back in of a car the other buried after dying and the other one was incinerated

N/A to the story, because obviously here the father was written to be neither provider nor nurturer of his child. But when a father devotes all his time to feeding, nurturing, raising, patiently teaching his child or children, telling bedtime stories, doing bath time, potty training, everything, they are not treated with a modicum of the respect afforded to Stay at home mothers.. It'll take years upon years for stay at home husbands to be accepted. Most of the world lived on the belief that husbands are the workers and the wives are the housekeepers. Sadly, some parts of the world still follow this tradition and treat the spouse horribly as a result. Even if the world grows progressive, any person, no matter the gender, faces abuse. Any person will face A type of discrimination. Good on the husband for being a true man, but scum should not use it as an excuse to be horrible. Housewives too.
There are a lot of double standards, and I feel like moms get the worst end of the stick. Stay-at-home wives are oftentimes perceived as having the "easy job" with no regards to the social, educational, and financial sacrifices they have to make to make it work. A mom taking the kids to the park is doing what's expected as a parent. A dad taking his kids to the park is "babysitting" and "helping the wife". Working moms are worst off. For example: A working mom who just had a baby probably won't get that next promotion because now she has a family to care for. A working dad who just had a baby MUST get that next promotion because now he has a family to care for.

same man. I genuinely wish I didn't watch a playthrough of it. It brought back bad memories and I see how realistically this could happen. Sometimes ignorance truly is bliss. The terrifying and helpless feeling of being left alone at home with a monster like that, a man who is supposed to take care of you. All parents like this should face the worst punishments known to mankind. I have 0 remorse for them. And the fact that Ron still cared about his father despite all that... I wish I could just forget this game honestly but props to the devs for invoking these emotions out of me.
the game itself gives a horror vibe, showing us the never ending fears ron had to face. In reality, to me it isn't even scary. It's just plain upsetting.
Theory : Mr. Red Face is controlling the parents, making them neglect their child, which is way the parents end up offing their own child, this entire game is basically his final moments before death, the doll was actually his imagination.
Mr Red Face is an allegory for alcohol abuse and the sons last memories of his father before he killed him. The entire store is insanely sad with nothing positive about it
If you like this game, and genre, you can watch parasite flower if you haven't, sadly the game didn't have a happy ending and just straight up sad (btw it deals with depression,SA and abuse)

So the „spell“ Ron used to defeat Mr. Redface, was the clue he left to get his dad arrested. Means that, that the part where Ron's dad lays on a bed in the realm, obviously shaking a lot, is showing that h actually feels guilty for what he did and got traumatized very bad or is it just his lack of alcohol he has that makes him in such a bad state?

The father was abusive to both the child and the mother. But BOTH parents were abusive and neglectful to their child (and yes neglect could be seen as abuse). You could only hope and pray parents are teaching their kids the proper way to do things, but that’s not always the case.

Damn. The storyline is actually great and unique. I really enjoyed the refreshing twist. Sad and horrible yet very emotional and touching. Wow. This storyline has a lot of potential for a movie or series or even a book.
am i the only one who noticed this? like the son, Ron died by his abusive dad choked or cracked Ron`s neck and puts it in the closet. but before that traumatic things happen, Ron got his a bday doll. and the doll`s neck is kind of odd when we first time saw the doll. but at the ending, Ron`s neck was broken, right? its the same as Ron's doll! i think Ron's doll is trying hard to tell Ron or us, thats how the future Ron should be (died at the future time).
I'm curious how the next three episodes will play out cause you know they need to tell us what lead to those other three children died. Interested in the burning kids short lived life story.

We're probably never seeing Ron again since he's finally moved on. It would be cool to see a game that pins a mom as the villain instead of a dad where instead of drinking, it was maybe an addiction to a drug or she could be cheating on a good dad or it could be a car accident where a dad dies and it turns the mom into a monster like the dad.

What if ron died on his own birthday, remember on the first night when you are introduced to your mom and dad what if on that night was the fight that ended up with Ron’s parents divorce/ the mom leaving and resulting in Ron’s death, that’s when Mr red face first appears we see Mr red face (the dad) waving the doll around (probably referencing the dad choking Ron to death/ then walking to the closet and putting Ron’s body in the closet) remember when we see our death for a split second we can see Mr red face with the doll if this is true it would make the game much darker (further proving my case when Ron wakes up on the first day he first haunts his dad then goes over to help his mom (on the second day)/ sorry this is a little too much but it seems like a good theory!! (Sorry if there are spelling mistakes😭)

I don't understand why the mother didn't just take the child immediately after demanding a divorce. She knows that her husband is a physically violent drunk who wants to hurt her, so why would you leave your defensless child with him? It was hard to sympathize with the mother because she had a hand in the abuse as well.

What would have made the story even more detrimental would be more insight on the father's neglect on Ron. Like: seeing how Ron goes around the house every time, hungry and bored expecting his dad to do something for him - only to see his dad sleeping with a beer bottle in his hand. Never waking up until extremely late.
I like the lack thereof better. A missing parent is worse than neglect. And I think that's what the game is trying to tell in a metaphorical and somewhat hyperbolic way, hence the lack of insight.

ok from all of the play throughs and explanations of this story, people seem to get wrong the time that the mom finds her son's dead body
Basically, after the son's death, he (unknowingly) "haunts" each of his parents' room closet every night for 2 weeks
The mom only comes home at night, so whenever she finds her son in her closet, she just thinks he's being weird
The night that she finds her son's dead body is the 14th day after his death
Basically the morning after she suggests she will "stay home instead of working for a day"
And as Ron only haunts the rooms at night, his spirit was not active in the morning
There was no "alternate reality"
She did actually see his spirit for 14 days and thought it was the real Ron
The loop stopped when Ron found the "spell" and threw it into the police station the evening after she found her son's dead body
As far as she's aware, she still believed her son was alive for those 14 days, and that her ex-husband broke into the house to kill the son while he was sleeping on the 14th night

@@jerrythecat811 tbh i missed this, but yeah he's right. the doll mentioned it somewhere towards the end. notice how in ron's first trip to the closet, he sees his dad in an untextured room on a bed. that's ron unknowingly haunting his dad in the motel he's hiding in. he went there to "save" his dad, so at the end, we see ron's decaying corpse telling his dad to come home. which means those nights where ron is found by his mom in the closet were real, and that those are him haunting his mom as well. The thing is his mom doesn't know that he's dead. And since she only "comes home at night", she meets ron at his most active ghost state, making her believe that he was still alive for 14 days until she decided to lay off work and find out that ron's actually dead in the morning. It's amazing really.

In fact, it was NEVER been eaten because Ron is long dead and his mother thought that he was lazy eating so she wrote the letter. Little that she knows that her poor child could no longer eat and sitting inside the closet with no conciousness all by himself

Yall know those videos with ghost hunters and their main source of communicating to ghosts is through radios? The frequencies and all that for the ghosts to talk to ppl or go to the other side. That also explains how from rons side all he sees is his dad shaking but cant understand why other than hes being punished but from the dads side hes able to see rons ghost.

As someone who just left a domestic violence situation, it hurts my heart that people see the mom as a bad parent. My step father was an abuser to everyone in the house including her, it’s taking a toll on her mental health and physical health. She had no family to help her out, and she had no where to go since we were living in his sisters house, the man has tried to kill my mother before, and was terrified to leave in the safety of us (us being me and my younger siblings) she worked nights and days back to back, and still got accused of cheating, something I can back her up on she was never doing, but he had video evidence, voice notes & mail, even the affairs of the women telling her that my step dad was cheating on her, but there was nothing she could do, his family is great with lawyers n cops, even on our birthday she felt awful that she didn’t get us anything because she was tight on money and was trying to get groceries and save for a new house, something they were both supposed to do, in the meanwhile he got a ps5 for himself, piercings, tattoos, got out to clubs and bars. While my mom worked, one day he takes the kids on a walk telling him he is going to take them away, and make sure that our mom is never to be seen again and that her being in the way will stop, saying he wouldn’t care if her and I lived on the streets, that he would beat them if my younger siblings told her anything, that night we left, and to this day we still think about what would’ve happened to her if she stayed there, everyday my mother is scared for her life that one day she’ll run into him, and he’ll act out on his impulse now that he has nothing to lose. Unfortunately there’s more to this sad story for my mom as I am only 17 years old and she doesn’t want me to ruin my childhood since I had to grow up so fast for my siblings. I wish to tell you we have a happy ending, but everything is still going on behind the scenes. Watching the gameplay shattered my heart, and I was having trouble breathing. The ending itself makes me appreciate that we got out of there in time..😕 we are still trying to make money for a house, but we are somewhere much safer, I’ve been trying to open art commissions and work on my game so I can make money off it and help my mother. There isn’t always a good end to everything☹️

ACTUALLY the devs kinda did a poor job at explaining it BUT the mom was in fact able to see Ron’s ghost for 14 days. She was only home at night after work which is when his ghost was visible to her. Ron was going through his loop with the doll for those 14 and would tell his mom about each looped experience and his mom simply thought he was hallucinating. On the 14th night she promised Ron she would stay home from work and she actually did keep her promise. It’s just that since Ron’s ghost does not appear in the morning she was not able to see him lying in the husbands bed where she tucked him in the night before. This caused her to hurry over to ron’s room to look for him and that’s when she found the body. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS IS WHAT THR DEVS HAD IN MIND

@@bane8305 She’s just talking to his ghost thinking it’s the actual living him the whole time. The developers probably just thought it would interesting for the plot. But a lot of players don’t really get that this is happening because the Doll doesn’t really fully explain it. I only understood because I spent so much time trying to understand what the doll meant when explaining to Ron about seeing him.

I saw a let’s-play. It made me want to cry. I’m pretty sure the developer made this game as a type of therapy. Such a sad journey, but incredibly fascinating and well done. I hope this opens an expansive and successful career for “Ahn” whoever that is.
I heard that the dev team will release the second part on the end of this year. Thats mean the game will have more storyline and deeper, also desipes and after the first story. They annouced it on itch after the release (the developer team are Vietnamese and im from Vietnam too so i can understand them)

A mom taking the kids to the park is doing what's expected as a parent. A dad taking his kids to the park is "babysitting" and "helping the wife".

same man. I genuinely wish I didn't watch a playthrough of it. It brought back bad memories and I see how realistically this could happen. Sometimes ignorance truly is bliss. The terrifying and helpless feeling of being left alone at home with a monster like that, a man who is supposed to take care of you. All parents like this should face the worst punishments known to mankind. I have 0 remorse for them. And the fact that Ron still cared about his father despite all that... the game itself gives a horror vibe, showing us the never ending fears ron had to face. In reality, to me it isn't even scary. It's just plain upsetting.
Theory : Mr. Red Face is controlling the parents, making them neglect their child, which is way the parents end up offing their own child, this entire game is basically his final moments before death, the doll was actually his imagination.
Mr Red Face is an allegory for alcohol abuse and the sons last memories of his father before he killed him. The entire store is insanely sad with nothing positive about it

Damn. The storyline is actually great and unique. I really enjoyed the refreshing twist. Sad and horrible yet very emotional and touching. Wow. This storyline has a lot of potential for a movie or series or even a book.

am i the only one who noticed this? like the son, Ron died by his abusive dad choked or cracked Ron`s neck and puts it in the closet. but before that traumatic things happen, Ron got his a bday doll. and the doll`s neck is kind of odd when we first time saw the doll. but at the ending, Ron`s neck was broken, right? its the same as Ron's doll! i think Ron's doll is trying hard to tell Ron or us, thats how the future Ron should be (died at the future time).
I'm curious how the next three episodes will play out cause you know they need to tell us what lead to those other three children died. Interested in the burning kids short lived life story.
