That lone female kinda breaks my heart but she will definitely get 💕 💗 with Dave and Company !! I tell people who talk how wonderful those people are in the islands near Cambodia and Vietnam that if the want to get a look at how monkeys should be treated they should check Dave & Co. out or A. Marisco out because they love these little guys from their hearts !! I have learned so much just from these 2 channels !!!
Are there people who say that the people who have the "pet" monkeys that are seen on TH-cam from Cambodia are wonderful? I have never seen anybody say that they thought they were "wonderful"....I thought most people felt it was not a good thing that they were doing...maybe I am missing it though. I am sure there are a few people who are completely clueless about it!
Also, though I really like the guy who owns the Arroz Marisco channel (I have known him since before he ever started regularly filming the macaques when he used to be a landscape photographer!) I'm not sure how you could compare him to these guys on this channel really...he is just a photographer that frequently goes to Monkey Hill to film the Rhesus macaques there. He feeds them and films them and of course he is pretty involved in that he names them and keeps up with the goings on there with them but he does not do any type of work like they do here...I mean he never gets involved more than feeding them and filming them.
@@PrimateProductions , no way would I compare his knowledge with VMF and I consider Dave one of the very best when it comes to monkeys, btw AM does have some medical knowledge and the ones I am talking about are the ones putting diapers and such on baby monkeys and using for their own gain where as VMF & AM do it for love !

@@PrimateProductions Yes, many of their followers often let them know how "wonderful" and "kind" they are and thank them for "taking such good care" and for "saving" the babies. And many of those followers send them money. They really are clueless or they refuse to believe the truth. Not sure that AM feeds them. You have to be registered there to be a feeder. I have seen videos where he was not feeding them and was waiting for the feeders to arrive. I like what he does also.

Yes, AM is a very good person! I don't think he is registered to fees them because he doesn't feed them large scale but there are definitely some of his videos that show him feeding some here and there...not very often though and I think it's been awhile since he has...🙂
Shout out to the Flokie!!!!!! Hes looking good. Last time I saw him, that Volunteer from France was working with his legs. Has it helped the little soldier some I hope? He's definitely looking bigger and stronger from the little bit I saw him on here. Thank you guys so much for all you do. I have some idea how much effort everyone there puts in and it shows..You guys have definitely payed it forward.. Much respect..

Wow I've seen this episode already but came upon it again and watched . So sad 😞 how these monkeys especially the old ladies came to be here but I remember that you guys were great to help them and how happy they are now . I cant thank you enough for all you guys have put forth in caring for all of them . Exactly what I would want to to for them if I had the means . Again ,thank you all .

This was a great video. I especially enjoyed seeing a few of the volunteers, plus two of the dogs, welcoming the truckload of new arrivals. Also liked seeing the two bearded male volunteers at work. They look like handy chaps to have around when there is heavy lifting to be done. In a previous video we saw one of the local African staff members saying a few words. Please, more exposure for the African staff if they are willing. They are invisible heroes working tirelessly in the background though I'm sure they are valued. In the end it's all about the monkeys but it's Dave and his people who make it possible.
I appreciate the unique difficulties presented by the new arrivals. Three babies who are already a little old for fostering, adult male and female and a wild grandma. Hope you can keep the viewers informed about what solution you find for each of them.
Not again! I keep saying to Dave there would be more. You poor weary dedicated folks aren't ever going to get a rest from all the wonderful care you give!!!

It is so wonderful to see the babies jumping and playing. I can't imagine the frustration the pet monkeys endure to be hit and yelled at for acting out their energy.
These babies are loved and the other ones are being exploited for 💵 from the Greedy Piglets of Cambodia and Vietnam !!

What do you mean these ones are loved (in comparison to the ones in Cambodia)? Of course now that they have been brought here they will be properly cares for but are you saying that them being kept as pets in comparison to the ones in Cambodia being kept as pets they were loved?? They might have been "loved" supposedly but it was a much more loving thing for their owners to turn them over to this foundation of course!🙂
There are a few who actually take good care of their monkeys and try to create an environment in which they can run and play and 'be a monkey". Unfortunately, they do not get credit where it is due, simply because they are Asian and/or live in Cambodia. While Cambodia is notorious for allowing these monkeys to be used for profit and, worse, turns a blind eye to their torturous abuse, it is also not right to go to the minority and verbally abuse the families who are doing the right thing by their care. So like everything else in life, please don't make generalizations about the monkeys. Not everyone there is a horrible person. Stopping the real abusers, the poaching and governments turning a blind eye to what is happening must be done at a higher level. One could not win a war by going house to house to stop it. The monkey situation in Cambodia needs a higher levek solution which I am convinced needs to come from international animal conservation and rescue organizations and quite possibly the UN. The reality, however, is we are still in the midst of a global pandemic and attention and resources and motivation is not there to deal with a problem that seems to be quite ably put on the shelf to deal with later.
@@PrimateProductions My take on that statement is there are "monkey families" who took in these babies as pets having no clue what a job they are to take care of. When they realize it, they do the right thing and take them to VMF. We must also recognize, however, the VMF is functioning in an entirely different country with more educated people and at least a higher standard of living than Cambodia, where it appears to be mass poverty. I never condone the clear abuse these babies suffer. it breaks my heart and many are downright tortured. Yet at the same time, those few who do get taken into a caring home are better off than in the hands of the Cambodian VO's, most of whom seem to be very sick individuals. It is a complicated problem and the ultimate solution will not be found until the country is persuaded to do something. But the reality of the money they earn via TH-cam cannot be denied. It is a serious financial contribution to the Cambodian economy and lifting people to a higher standard of living. As long as that fact is part of the equation, and there is nothing to replace that viable economic development source, there is no way anything will fundamentally change.
Bathing those wrigglers with dirty bums must be a very smelly job! Respect to you guys managing that! They do look lovely and fluffy afterwards tho. This video really highlights the immense difficulty you have working with such incredibly different needs of your newcomers. That was a real mixed bag. So glad Floki and Cuddy are doing ok now. Good luck with trying to integrate those who can be. And huge thanks, as always, for all you do.

That's a sad story about the older female monkey. It's awful that she was a wild monkey & now she's confined. These monkeys are beautiful.
like an old age home, she is looked after nicely and fed the best - probably loves it - the wild is tough

Oh my goodness, you sure have your hands full with all the new arrivals. The new babies are little terrors stealing pens, toilet tissue, etc. Lol They are adorable. The older female is so sad. I hope you can get her in with other monkeys. Is there a way you can possibly form a new troop with the new arrivals? You have one dominant male, the rest are females and the three babies. That is if you have the room for one. Just a thought.

Vmf money is always a good start I'm sure these organizations never have enough money. People who run these organizations are like the rest of us food, lodging, transportation,etc etc. they don't make money doing what they do. It's up to the public to do their part volunteering time and/or MONEY. GOD bless you all for your time and hard work. THE UNIVERSE is watching. I believe,good karma begets good karma. I am always disappointed when the video ends. I enjoy watching and learning about the monkeys, its wonderful. I also like that there are several different narrators. It shows how professional the staff is and how they work as a team.
A question? Was the monkey family all together when they were found? Or were they ex pets. Also there not a family for life, right?
Well thanks for making a home for the monkeys.
It was my understanding that the family (mom, baby, adult male) came from a breeder. Though in the wild a male and female will not be in an exclusive relationship for life (though they do sometimes form bonds/special relationships or friendships with one another they will still mate and mingle with others) if they have been in captivity together for a long time and especially if they have not be around other monkeys then it might be difficult to get them to accept or be accepted by others in an already existing troop.

@@jimrossi7708 I agree their work is exemplary, and their experience vast, it is just that I know from previous videos that introducing adults is difficult. With a family group of 3 I would think it impossible to introduce them as a single unit.
@@cu280 absolutely. The work of the foundation is exemplary and their capacity to turn the lives of these primates around is second to none. I fully support and appreciate the work that they do and my question is because of my understanding about their hierarchies would indicate that introducing a family of three into a troop would be neigh on impossible as within the small group they have already established hierarchy amongst the self. The male would then challenge the hierarchy of the established troop.
@@jimrossi7708 outside help? What do you mean? Dave has been doing this long before there was ever a TH-cam channel and I'm pretty certain he and his family are pretty much the authorities on caring for/rehabbing vervets in his area. I can't imagine who he would call on for outside help!🙂

@@juliehowman3912 yes it would present some unique issues for sure...if nothing else but because if the male and female have been living together without exposure to other monkeys they might have difficulties separating them and them accepting and being accepted by an already formed troop. Generally though in the wild males migrate to a new troop every few years (or usually at least once in their life after reaching maturity) and though troops don't like adult outsiders they do accept them eventually. Females however usually stay with their natal troop (the one they were born in) for life...i know that in macaques it can be difficult to introduce an adult female to a strange new troop...I think it logically would possibly be the same for vervets. Males and females are promiscuous maters in the wild.

Si il s'agit d'un ulcère ici au Québec, y a une petite chirurgie qui consiste à prendre une aiguille et tracer dans la cornée un quadrillé puis coudre les 2 paupières ensemble pour 18 jours. Ceci permet la régénération de cellules saines qui vont prendre la place de celles qui constitue l'ulcère. La plupart du temps, ça fonctionne mais il peut arriver qu'on ait à répéter l'opération 2 fois avant complète guérison....Ma petite chienne qui s'était blessé à un oeil en courant sous la haie de cèdre a passé ces chirurgies (dans son cas, on a dû faire 2 fois. Il est clair que ça doit être fait sous anesthésie générale pour éviter de mauvais mouvements pendant la chirurgie.
I've been going through and watching some of the newer and older videos and I cannot help wondering whyyyy there are sooo many orphan babies?! What is going on with all their mums? I thought the people were usually trying to steal the babies not the mums? Thanks to all of you amazing people helping these 🐒!
Its a very small percentage of those that we manage to rescue, by far the biggest problem is motor vehicle accidents as the moms are alot slower when carrying a baby and they not very good at judging the speed of vehicles, they get killed on the roads, the next highest are they get shot as people cant tolerate them, as the baby is hanging under the mom they survive in most circumstance. we average around 20 - 30 orphans a year

I am so confused about what the deal was with all the new arrivals...were they all (except for the older female) brought in by the same person? Had they all been kept as pets? If so, by the same people? Was the female with the baby and the adult male come from a breeder maybe (I think that was what I heard) but arrived with all the others? I'm so confused. Were there 2 groups of older babies that arrived?
Yes they where all confiscated in Johannesburg by the authorities and had nowhere to go, there outcome looked bleak so we had to give them a chance

Likely pets. You don't really hear of them being bred for "bushmeat" specifically.
What do you when they are too big to put in a troup
Hi how are you? I have many questions. How you chose the names? how you know how age are they? How you grab the monkey, when you see it’s sick? I mean adults that all ready in the foundation?
I am fine, people donate to name them, they born at a certain time of year, after that we guess, we grab them carefully, we use a trap cage
What happens to older monkeys that can't be integrated into a troop, what do you all do about their living quarters
They normally teamed up with another monkey of the same age and located on the sides of the natural enclosure so they can interact with other monkeys

I did not know you took so in many adult pets. Can you elaborate in a video a story on how you try to integrate a lifelong pet into a troop? I imagine it must take a long time to just teach them to be a monkey again. I think Floky would be a good ambassador to the adult pets.
Perhaps set him inside an enclosure next to theirs and see how they they along.

too bad you can't just put them altogether- new babies, the new mom, dad.... New troupe started! I haven't watched the whole vid yet, but I coulnd't help but say that... I assume of course that it is SO much easier said than done, especially as these are mostly not wild...
What happens if you cannot integrate The Monkees
that very seldom happens but in those cases we house them in larger enclosures and will then move them around till we find a place they fit, that wont be the same for those of retirement age of course, they will just get a place to relax and live out there live stress free

I assume you addressing the youtube developer as we have no control over anything except the video we upload, you may have to address the TH-cam FAQ file, from what ive seen you can normally click like and then unclick it so maybe a new feature

These monkeys now live in the foundation, caged. Do they ever get released from cages back to the wild?
they get release into semi-wild camps, unfortunately there are still land disputes in the country which could lead to their demise, any wild vervet brought in for treatment is released back into the wild
With the group arrivals especially the babies why do you feel like you need to put the camera right in their face if they're nervous? Personal opinion it seems like you should stay back a little ways to make them more comfortable.
