    99 quid you can get decent after market pickups , Tone Rider Iron Gear Wilkinson, even the tuning pegs, it makes a great upgrade base but it's crazy what you can get these days, it gives everyone a chance no matter what budget to pickup a guitar

    • @yanagida_01
      @yanagida_01 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      you can fully upgrade and make it gig-worthy for even cheaper than 99 quid , a set of Artec TFA40/TRA44 alnico pickups costs around £20 an alternative would be the Wilkinson Low Gauss Ceramics set for the same price, a Wilkinson Compensated tele bridge for £15, Guyker locking tuners for £18, a PureTone output jack for £5, 250K or 500K CTS pots for £8, and an Oak Grigsby 3-way switch for £10.
      All these for around £76 give or take and you still have a budget for something like a Joyo JF-03 distortion pedal for £20 if you have 99 quid budget😂

    I look forward to watching this one Colin. I got the East Coast cabronita tele baritone for £150 and, even though they dropped it to £99 in the sale shortly after (DOH!), I still think I got a bargain. Swapped out the pups but other than that, it's perfect for the job as it is and well made/finished. Lee's doing a good job with these - getting kids playing decent guitars as their first guitar (and old men like me on their 14th guitar ;-) ).

    Great review as always Colin. The thing with the East Coast/Andertons brand is i guess they NEED to make it playable and decent for a beginner. Throwing crap out of the door would just ruin the rep they've built and by association everything connected to them like Victory etc. Lee Anderton is essentially a retailer who wants your money like everyone else but he does come across as genuinely wanting people to have a good first guitar experience. Which is more than you get from a lot of retailers, particularly online ones.

    The frets look shiny and well dressed and medium-jumbo sized which I prefer. Just a suggestion: Could you please start doing a quick fret rocker test to see how well they did at leveling the frets? If the frets have high spots it is kind of a major concern because it is not an easy or cheap imperfection to fix. Cheers, Colin.

    I've gotta say, just on visuals alone, that's the highest quality, cleanest routed, well put together super cheap guitar I have ever seen. It's incredible what can be achieved for so little. Even the grain pattern of the rosewood looks fantastic, and there's even a little bit of figuring on parts of the maple neck. You got lucky with that, but you certainly don't expect such quality looking timbers on such a cheap guitar.
    Good on Anderton's for making quality a priority for his line of budget instruments. These guitars, as well as Lee's standards, provide a great service to the guitar community. Most importantly, they give beginner guitarists an excellent way to get started with a quality instrument that plays right, and sets them off on the right path. We all know what atrocious, low-quality guitars look and play like. Just think about how many people give up playing guitar due to those horrible "instrument"-shaped objects. This guitar is an example of what all budget brands should strive for. Well done, East Coast!

    As an acoustic player, I had a hankering for a cheap Tele for mucking around on at home and had been looking at kits. Then I saw Anderton's 5 Tele Blind Test vid and exactly 24 hours later it arrived to my door. I was impressed with the set up and finish. Tuners and saddles are a bit meh. I reshaped the neck a bit to take down the shoulders and oiled it. Fitted an old strat pick up in the middle with a mini switch on the plate and put a set of 10s on it. I'm pleased with it, compared to starter guitars from 45 odd years ago it is excellent, and a good platform to play around with custom ideas on.

    I love the look of this guitar. Very classic. I would love to see you take this guitar and first change the wiring harness to one with a tone bleed, then change to brass saddles and see how it sounds. Then, if still doesn't sound great, upgrade the pickups (like to Bootstraps) and check again. Last, nut and tuners. All these upgrade would be about $200 US + or - $25 or so. I think it would be a monster with these upgrades -something to fall in love with. I have the same TE-62 you reviewed, I changed the wiring tree and added brass saddles and saw no need to change the pickups, though still considering it. It is a great little guitar. The amount of guitar you can get with a few upgrades is astounding and the best part, you won't run into anyone else with one.

    Good Friday evening, thank you for the nice and quality review of the Telecaster of the mentioned brand. I don't think there's any need to turn your nose up at cheap guitars. Good stores usually know how to ensure the sufficient quality of the product sold. I'm only a home-type guitarist, I'm not good, but maybe in my advanced age I can usually judge the quality of an instrument (suitable for my needs). This brand fulfills everything needed not only for beginner guitarists. An active or professional musician will probably reach for a different brand, understandably for various reasons. From a purely personal point of view, I am happy for these brands. I have lots and lots of SX, Jet, Encore, HB, Squier, etc. at home. They make me happy, they are technically and qualitatively enough for me. So far, I've always had a lucky hand when choosing. I also have significantly more expensive brands, but for me it was just a matter of a little whim or, for example, a gift. I wish you a nice weekend and greetings. Pavel CZ.👍👍👍

    My third guitar, which I sti have, is just like the one you started out on (mine had no name on it anywhere). It was a step up from the first two (a single pickup and then a twin pickup guitar which both came from that well-known music retailer Woolworth's), but the next one - a black CMI Tele deluxe copy was the first one that felt like a proper guitar. I wish I still had that one.
    None of them were as good as the beginner guitars, such as East Coast, that are available now. I bought an East Coast Strat copy for a friend of mine who was interested in learning (I thought she'd like something with a more elegant shape than a 'workhorse' Tele), and not only does it look lovely, in a blue sparkle finish, its actually a really nice player.

    Since proving that tonewood isn't a thing in the electric guitar realm scientifically, it would stand to reason that the electronics and amp are what really matters. So as long as the pickups aren't horrible you can build it from anything like Leo fender did, and having a good speaker in your amp helps alot as well

    I'm really not a telecaster man. How ever, if someone were to take an instrument like this, upgrade it a bit, and hide the brand name, Even someone like Joe Bonamassa, would pick one up (imagine that happening) and give it a play, at least once.
    Colin, I'm always impressed with your willingness to review what is clearly a CHEAP guitar, and then we all discover that Gibson, Epiphone and Fender are going to be in trouble AGAIN. I sure hope that they take notice, and learn that they are loosing a ton of business, because that won't provide entry level priced guitars. Well, Maybe not, then folks like East Coast would loose out. I wonder, what would an East Coaster sound like with a $600 price tag? (still affordable)
    Beginners take notice, You or your folks can get a guitar for little money, that as Colin said, "it sounds great". And just imagine, for a few hundred, you can have a guitar that's better than a REAL tele, for less than half of what a tele costs, even if you pay to have the upgrade done by a pro.
    Oh by the way, the guitar player world has lost another legend. RIP Richard (Dickie) Betts, (Alman Brothers Band) ;-)

    Late to the party here but wow! Jeez Colin you made that bad boy sing! Andertons & Guitar Guitar damn good so could not see them taking a risk on reputation by kicking out cheap trash. This is by all accounts a decent instrument, yep helps being played through good gear by a guy who can play damn good, but it held up well. Folk so lucky these days getting gear like this for these prices. Great vid mate thanks!

    I was going to order an inexpensive guitar from anderons, but shipping to the usa was more than the price of the guitar. Its all good. I already have 5 teles as it is.

    Wow - so, it's not all show with the big 'A', this really is a great, entry-level/value guitar, with cash to spare for a small amp, if you're a beginner, or upgrades, if you're a modder. I really need to scratch that T-type itch with one of these guitars.
    No need to apologise, Colin, at all. You are keeping body and soul together in this time of multi-layered income streams, so you go, girlfriend, come back in May, fully refreshed and ready to slay us all with another ramble about new (to you) guitars. Ramble On, as a well known band once sang!

    Hi Colin, great review as always. I always thoroughly enjoy your playing and telecasters are my all time favourite.
    If you’re looking for ideas on guitars to review, the single P90 Fender Noventa Teles from a couple years ago are interesting and different. Kind of like a Telecaster Junior. Would love to get your take on those.
    Rock on mate! 🇦🇺🤘

    I'm increasingly amazed at the value guitars like these represent. I remember the first guitar I bought - a Squire Strat - back in the late 80s. It cost more than this and was awful in every way. The paint finish was rough, the tuners struggled to keep in tune and the pick-ups were very weak. The worst thing, however, was the fret finishing. It felt like running your fingers up and down razor blades. I remember a Ted Nugent quote saying practice until your fingers bleed. He must have had a squire too.

    I like Andertons. They make fun videos. Been wanting to get a guitar off of them, but I've been on a tear spending money on guitars and amps!
    Why do we do this? I'm happy with all my gear! But i want more! For 99 bucks, why not? I need a tele! Strats nope. Firebird, the neck didn't do it for me! Teles have nice necks!
    I'm fed up with the u.s. and I'd rather give my money to foreigners. Looks like i found my tele. I wonder who makes good tele pickups? I'll have to research. For 200 bucks, you could trick it out pretty good. Hopefully, it's light my neck surgery makes playing terrible at times.

    I remember when East Coast first appeared as I'd been dealing with Terry and Simon at PMT since soon after they started in that little London Rd shop in Southend. (On a side note I do find it bizarre that they both just kinda vanished. They lived and breathed the business and we used to have a few great laughs when I visted the Southend 'superstore' when they were there). My nephew learnt on an Eastcoast guitar and to be fair, for the money it was more than decent. One good bit of progress has been some very affordable quality guitars..

    The issue is the neck pocket schematics. When you buy a budget guitar your either going to give it to a beginner or you’re buying a platform and intend to upgrade. I bought a Harley Benton because it had a genuine ash body. I messed up the neck trying to upgrade the dots only to find out that there isn’t a single neck I could purchase that was going to fit properly because the body thickness caused the neck pocket to be routed shallow. Upgrading some of these isn’t quite so easy. So you got what you got.

  • @2dazetake
    @2dazetake 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The perfect mod platform, sand the logo off,hit the back of the neck and the headstock with a lite sanding just so it can except a few coats of linseed oil, upgrade all the hardware and pickups and you have a fender looking tele.

    • @PedroMiguel-if3ll
      @PedroMiguel-if3ll 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And after spending all that money, still will not sound like a fender.
      These bodies are made with crappy wood.
      You can change all hardware, but the wood its still the same crap.

      @valley_robot 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And what pray tell me does the difference in wood in an electric guitar make, don't give me that tone wood nonsense please, I sold my fender because it was over priced, I bought 3 nice guitars with the money @@PedroMiguel-if3ll

    I can see what you did there, you were thinking about the Eastwood Road out of Rayleigh. Great beginner guitar to get kids & older learners on the road without the really cheap crap that used to get punted around years ago. Not a Tele lover myself, but great video to accompany re stringing a couple of Les Pauls.

    Had a similar problem with a Vintage V62 Tele where the neck pick up was a bit low so wanted to lift it a bit, but as its screwed into the body had to remove the pickguard and had issue with it not clearing the pickup so had to remove the neck. Then I put neck back on adjusted the pickup height removed it again replaced pickguard then the neck again. What a faff, but only way to get pickup height correct. However the Guitar is worth it really happy with Wilkinson appointments, and the distressed one I bought looks cool and the neck on it is outstanding.

    The action looks really high. I've bought cheap guitars in the past and at first they seem great. That is, until all the annoying faults start to emerge. Things like tuners, intonation that can't be fixed, things coming loose etc. I don't buy them anymore but for beginners they are perfect. Just wish guitars like these were around when I first started. Thanks for the vid.

    I'd say not having to change out the tuners on a 99 pound guitar is something to get excited about. Olympic White and Rosewood is also one of my favorite Teles. I think all guitars need to be 12" radius or more.

    Great review Col - how I would have loved this rather than the first guitar I had that was like playing a cheese grater ! I’ve always found the neck pick up on a Telecaster to be weak - but I’ve only ever owned Squiers so maybe that’s why ?
