"No rosewood was harmed in the making of this instrument.."! Great sense of humour, as always, and great sense of realism. I'm a bit concerned at people calling you a cheapskate, and the guitars featured as firewood. The channel is based on reviewing budget, or value, guitars, and always has been, so for you to be fielding such comments is unfair and downright outrageous. Even going back to your (broken) Epiphone Flying V/Explorer, videos, where you criticise the company for their pricing, wasn't that a rather large clue as to the channel's main focus. Don't pay any attention to these naysayers - we watch because you review the gear without fear or favour (mostly), and with a sense of humour and realism, returning to my original point. Keep on keeping on!

While some may complain, I think a majority of your fans like the very low cost guitar reviews. I believe that there are a lot of players and aspiring players who would like to expand their horizons but would struggle to afford a $400+ guitar. Thanks as always.

CNC, and china CAN make great gear, just ask them to tighten quality. Its why I laugh at people that will only buy UK made celestions. Would love to support my own country, but everyone is too busy tripping everyone else on a downward spiral than trying to raise all boats.

Yeah, that Prince video is amazing and I was always more a George Harrison fan than John or Paul through my life. The price of a standard model by Gibson or Fender is just insane and I love the fact you show these types of models as they just get better in quality each passing year.

@18:45 we both flinched at exactly the same time. I 've tried cheaper guitars that get T-style neck sound way better than that, I'm really working hard not to do youtube style tirade here. To keep it short ; that neck pickup made me sad, can't pick out any likeable characteristics beyond it being functional.
Eastcoast are still winning the budget market for me, and I'd just like to thank you for doing a series on guitars more people can actually go and buy. You're serving a bigger community by covering this area and I appreciate it a lot.

It looks good and the price is right, but what really gets me is that it actually sounds good. It's a very 'vintage' sound, but then surely if one is buying a 'rosewood' tele, then that's probably what one wants anyway. I wonder where my nearest pmt is lol - need to try before I buy 'cos the feel of the neck is the all important thing, and what floats one guys boat might sink mine. Good one Colin !

Excellent playing Colin. I think the guitar looks beautiful and if it can be made to sound that good then it's a wonderful value for money. A parent could buy their kid this guitar and then play it when they're off to school. 😊

Looks great and for they are charging seem really good value. Seems like almost monthly a new brand is out making good copies of the well known stuff. PMT are a pretty good business, have bought from them a few times online and visited their shops, always great service. Thing is at this price you can get one and mod the hell out of it, paint it put stickers on it, even gig with it without the worry of devaluing. great vid Collin! Like your playing too mate! Cheers.

The thing you were saying about the big boys watching their prices is spot on. Gibson is doing their best to move Epiphone into the $1000-2000 range. As long as they all have Gibson parts and electronics I don't care, but I dunno that I'm daft enough to believe that'll happen. Cheers, homie!

I recently got back in to playing after a 30 year break, I'm not good, I can play some chords, learning picking etc. I've always loved the Tele style, and seeing as I had a Tanglewood Strat copy already that I took out of storage which doesn't play all that well, I bought a Squier Tele (in butterscotch blonde) for under £150. It's made me fall in love with playing again, and didn't cost the earth. I have a feeling I'll be buying more "budget" guitars now :D I do love the look of that Fauxwood TL1, I think it would go nicely next to the Squier :D

0:27 it’s funny that your intro is playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps because i was gonna put up a quiz on the best solos ever played on a Tele.
I’d just watched for the umpteenth time the Jeff Lynne, Prince, Winwood and Petty et al cover of that and Prince’s solo at the end is surely the best ?

I have to say, it sure looks good, even if stained cheaper wood. Imagine what a chunk of rosewood that size would cost. A slab of cedar might not be too costly, but...
Anyway, great review of it. Even cheap guitars these days seem to be pretty good. I actually sounds pretty good... the neck pickup on a clean amp setting aside. Crazy nice Tele-type for that money. Well done!

Colin, I can't understand why people complain about you featuring guitars, like this. Yes, they are made for folks who are beginners, have little money, or both. However, by upgrading the hardware and electronics, and even paying to have the work done, A very high quality guitar can, sometimes, be had for less than 1/2 the cost of a Gibson or Fender. You have even done that yourself, ending up with several guitars that played and sounded as good or better than their expensive counter parts.
I guess, the complaining must come from folks who have grown long noses, from looking down them at guitars like this.
By all means review a few more PMT"S, like their SG, since you are a big SG fan, and maybe even tweak one up a bit. Now, that could be fun. and drive the "long noses" to distraction too, HA, HA ;-)

Nice one Col, you're so right, it is wot it is. In my early career I remember buying my first electric guitar, the Audition by Woolys, (Woolworths) (who else started on it too.????) then moving up market ( so I thought) to the dizzy heights of my £40 Avon SG.. The Audition was a finger shredder with one inch action, 😂 the Avon SG was like a guitar equivalent of decaf coffee? I wish back then I could have accessed one of these cheapies you are showcasing so brilliantly,, so todays starters wont feel so bloody uesless like the rest of us who in our teens, struggled to get through a 3 minute song without needing plasters afterwards😂😂😂😂 cheers Col, laters😊

    and
family entertain ment around campfire bbq ... coastal day out ... (preferably nylon strung so as not to disturb similar adventurers) as it avoids trophy damage cables kit noise levels on both trophy and day2day (hmmm should I copyright that 🙂)

Neck pickup as woolly as my Squier 50s Tele . When I complained to Fender the reply was “ What do you expect from a Squier “ Point is the bridge pickup is excellent and the neck a dog . If I’d paid the price of the PMT here fair enough but not for the Squier. A new neck pickup beckons , Iron Gear or something like that .

Body looks more like creosote than rosewood, but who cares.
Fender Telecaster necks were originally all 21 fret fingerboards. When they introduced the 22 fret necks, in order to use the same body, neck rout and bridge placement for both 21 and 22 fret necks they put the end of the 22 fret fingerboard on an overhang. There is a gap between the body and the overhang such that the scratchplate slides underneath the end of the fretboard. On a Fender guitar the scratchplate will fit both a 21 and a 22 fret neck. I'm guessing that this 22 fret neck does not have a gap beneath the overhang allowing the plate to slip underneath it, as on the Fender plates the screw holes looked a few mm to far towards the bridge when compared with the holes in the body.

Since you brought it up, why not do a comparison of LP style guitars from the same Brands/manufactures.

Fender designs were developed to be cheap and easy to produce. There is only so much that can be done while staying within that design ethos. Rosewood would increase cost of production and add major weight. I doubt much could be done to improve their sound. Their sound is from electronics not the wood they are made from. This shows what a Fender is actually worth. Cheers.

Looks nice, but most of the antiquity guitars (mainly T style) haven’t been great at all. Strangely enough, the Antiquity Explorer and V did feel quite nice

You need to reorganize your guitar rack so the hang at an angle so you can put all of them on the back wall

great beginner guitar. Anything that gets folk picking one of these fantastic instruments up is always good. Then we can always upgrade…..

Overlay the pickguards on each other to see if they're identical

I have to say that when it comes to cheaper fretboard woods. I much prefer Indian laurel to Pao Ferro. I find Pao Ferro too reddish. The darker the fretboard, the better.
