@@andertons It would be really nice if they were used somewhere when doing an amp demo. Maybe not the whole video, but just having like 2 or 3 minutes to show what the amps sound like with a room mic instead of with a mic right in front of the amp

I love the way Justin keeps stepping in to elaborate on what going on he really is a teacher at heart and you see he really cares.
Love how Justin doesn't assume viewers come with any knowledge at all and explains the basics quickly and concisely. Wish he and youtube would have been around when I started.

Good having Justin on. Sometimes Andertons vids have too much silliness (ie more than 80%) can get boring especially when watching the vid more than once. Justin keeps the talk more informatively rich and less biased and orientated to the player rather than the buyer.
Pete & Cap keep speeding through while Justin is actually slowing down and teaching us the tutorial

The educational part of this video is that a good teacher doesn't show how much he knows, but tells as little as possible. Bad teachers try to impress with their amount of knowledge and experience (leaving their pupils depressed, confused and discouraged (but impressed)).

I actually really like this microphone setup. Amps will normally sound different depending on the room so this is a really good way of showcasing each amplifier's merits.

I really like Justin's approach in this video. Really breaks out down to such a simple mindset that someone who has little to no guitar experience can at least have a starting point to go into a store and find something to start on. Great group and collaboration for sure!

It's a Squier deluxe hot rails, I still have the guitar, it's great.

Yes! When I was 15 my father helped me buy my first electric guitar. He had some contacts, and experience from when he played guitar in his youth. I was into stuff like G'n'R, Metallica, Pantera, Sepultura, etc. But I ended up with a triple sunburst 60's stratocaster MIJ. Needless to say it wasn't quite the guitar I should have had at that time. I learned a few Green Day tunes on it, then put it away. Bought a pink Slash inspired Epiphone LP 'cause it looked awesome, but ended up taking it back 'cause I didn't like the feel of it. Then bought a used Ibanez, GRATE value for the money, and played it religiously for the next decades. Still love it, though I now have lots of others.
BUT the cool thing is, now I'm 37, and that old 'JapStrat' is fast becoming my favorite guitar! So NOW, 20 odd years later, it has become 'the right' guitar for me.
I'm SOOO glad I haven't sold it! And that's because of advice my father gave me; he has always regretted selling his first. What ever you do, DON'T SELL THAT ONE! And thankfully I didn't...

I managed to pick up a vintage vrs100 recently with Wilkinson pickups and trem second hand for £100 and it's such an amazing guitar to look at and makes me want to play every day and a quality guitar

Agree with an earlier commenter, the Tele Squire is probably the best of the bunch for a beginner. easy to tune, easy enough to play, without being overly sensitive to finger pressure, not very expensive, and retains some of it's value..
Love seeing Justin on the channel, just a cool dude.

Good stuff. My first guitar was a silvertone electric from a friend. Spent more time tuning than anything. A fender acoustic was the first guitar that stayed in tune long enough to learn anything.

Good idea and Justin is spot on about playability first. However, you might also demonstrate an "intermediate" priced guitar alongside these. Not everyone wants a budget guitar to learn on so paying more for a "proper" instrument that will be good for years to come might be a better choice for some and if they go off the instrument it will still have some residual value second hand whereas these guitars will go in the bin 9 times out of 10.

My first guitar was a 3/4 classical guitar my dad bought me from argos 8 years ago. And today it is still one of my favourite guitars to play. So basically as long as it feels good and you're used to it you'll love it. It has a really high action that cant be adjusted because it has no trussrod but instill love it

@@zeta2325 I have a fender american standard which is my most expensive but if I'm honest it diesnt matter because as you play you become so used to the necks that my classical guitar feels like it's worth 10k. To me anyway. I've also got a Yamaha ac1r which sounds godly. Something keeps bringing me back tho to my first guitar
For those people really on the fence deciding whether they should get a guitar, there’s also the used market. I thought guitar would be too hard to learn which put me off trying for years. However I saw a nice looking used guitar on an auction website and ‘accidentally' won it. Turns out learning guitar is easier than I thought (big thanks to Justin !).

@@shawndouglass2939 in the best possible. In my opinion, there is no better investment for first amp then Katana 1x12 combo. You can be loud, quiet, jazzy, metal, blugrass whatever in one package. And with decent effects on top.

I still love my first electric guitar. It was a cheap sx strat copy, I have done some upgrades to it and still play it 16 years later. They were 100% right about playability. That guitar is so nice to play. If I had to sell guitars for financial reasons I wouldn't part with that one.
The other thing to consider about a new guitar - budget for a setup. It might cost nearly half what you spent on the guitar itself, but it is absolutely worth it in terms of playability and tuning stability.
I've had a Les Paul copy for few years and I started to play with it back then, but unfortunately I've never got that to a point where it'd be easy to play. Since my hands aren't working as well as a normal persons hands, little by little the guitar was left on its own. Now I've decided to really learn to play and I've decided to treat myself the one guitar I know even I can play, so went for the stratocaster pro (used). I could've gone for a Squire probably, but like I said, now I know I get a guitar I can play.
I’m not looking for a first guitar but think this is a must watch for anyone who is. If I was giving someone advice I would mention how the neck feels as most important. For example Les Pauls typically have a wider rounder neck profile vs Stats typically have a narrower flatter neck profile. Scale length makes a big difference too but as long as you have average size hands I don’t think it matters that much. A set up is a must and I think all guitar retailers should include a complimentary set up at least for all first time buyers. Totally agree with get the style of guitar that your guitar hero plays.
Something to say about the bullet mustang compared to the real mustang is that the body is bigger. On the mustang if you are smaller, it is much easier to play sitting down. I'm on the smaller side and found playing my sg copy gave me shoulder pain and back ache. My mustang feels so comfortable to play, I can now play for 2 hrs without pain. Comfort is the most important thing when choosing a guitar and as a beginer that's not so ething I really understood until I wanted to practice for over an hour.
I got a black donner dlp 124b for $126 with a case and strap. I got the boss 50 amp. I am ready to learn!
you guys got it right on the head. Inspiration and playability is cheap to playing the guitar. Not just for beginners either. I am legally blind very legally blind and it started around 1997 and for 28 years was pretty close. I didn't touch a guitar maybe just a couple of times. The guitar had I couldn't give a crap about. And it's probably if it was set up by and stuff's not so bad it's Ibanez Blazer. for some reason I started looking at used guitar as probably late 2016 and I came across to toss Santa. I owned a Gibson SG standard in the very early 80s and sold it for symbols beside was a professional drama. So I started looking for used SGS. And I kept the ones that were like / 52 800 specials SG special and I really didn't know what that meant is what I came across one that has a soul loss wine restaurant experience it was 550 box and I bought it. It came to me and it was filthy all sticky with god-knows-what and I bought some guitar polish and I cleaned it up. This guitar has a perfect finish on it. It's a Gibson is garbage this guitar is beautiful. It's like a sheet of glass when you touch it it's just so smooth and beautiful and very nice to the touch. Although I'm legally blind I can see the sign on it and I can see that it's like I'm a mirror. Not a blemish to the finish that was originally there. Once I had it set up just playing it and looking at it was a two things that got me playing again area I still love this guitar I have it a little over two years I guess and inspired me to buy other guitars. So in 2018 aboard a Gibson firebird chassis and vintage burst. Since it was old new stock I got a great price on it since we it from Sweetwater. I bought the guitar for 1350 out the door. The chase is amazing it's almost 50 pounds. It's one of the large rectangle case rectangle cases. The finish on my firebird is also flawless. and it's a great guitar. It has steinberger tuners which makes it really easy to tune to get it tuned very finely. Lee vintage burst is beautiful associative thoughts. And again the steinberger tuners with a 40 to 1 ratio watching are very nice. Cantoro song is hand-rolled binding so it's very comfortable to play titanium saddlessexy body construction etc. Actually when I look at the guitar on the case I don't know how they were able to sell it so cheap. 9 ply next I mean it takes a lot of work to do all these things a lot of later anyway I'm just babbling on and I'm trying to say is what you said in the beginning of Star season of Avatar he wants to play that when he sees it it makes him feel like he needs to play it and number to it needs to play easy. Anyway please excuse any typos misspelled words etc I'm not a fast typer I'm not even illiterate although everyone tells me I am :-). As I said before I'm legally blind and I use speech to text to Lexus commerce and it has a mind of its own as probably you'll notice when you screwed this or if you've read this already. I’ve watched so many of your videos, gone to a guitar shop (not always Andertons), plugged into something I’ve seen on your channel and 9/10 times gone “oh, this doesn’t sound like I thought it did”. My first guitar was a very old broken espana classical with some thick ass strings that turned my fingers green after a while..man were my finger tips throbbing in the beginning lol that was 9 months ago..a few months after I started playing, I ended up buying an epiphone electric off of someone and the difference was astounding lol..that classical made my fingers way stronger than they would have been if I started on an electric or just a proper guitar. I have no regerts. I loved every second of the pain lol
If I may say, re removing the whammy bar for beginners, the thing that got me going on the guitar was the magic of the sound. Chords? I didn't know any. But the magic of that tremelo bar gave wonderful swooping sounds.
Let the imagination flow and that will drive you through the pain and difficulty of learning.
My piano teacher when I was a kid beat the enthusiasm out of my by insisting on simple boring melodies but using the full technique, hand positions etc.

Been playing for about 8 years now and I've got to tell you, I was the type to buy the funky looking guitars used (which had old strings on and weren't setup properly) or get cheap guitars and poorly modify them.
Anyways, if you're a beginner, please please PLEASE listen to these guys! They know what they're on about; all those things they said to avoid, i've done them all and don't think that doing it the 'hard way' will make you a better guitarist! It WILL slow you down (Only reason I still play was because I was a masochist. And I finally learned how to setup a guitar properly after 5 painful years lol).
So yeah, invest in a good entry level guitar, those Eastcoasts look great! It will save you a lot of pain and heartache down the road. Great vid guys!
I got a Pacifica when I started learning. 3 years in and I’ve only just begun considering buying my second electric, it’s a truly great guitar for the money (£179 I paid at the time)
Suggestion: check out the Variax Standard. It is made by Yamaha and is basically a Pacifica with extra magic electronics, so if you like and get on with your Pacifica you'll like and get on with the Variax (at least from a playing perspective), and the versatility it offers is incredible.

Just fyi,I bought a silvertone strat,here in the states,and I am extremely happy with it.I have owned true start and led Paul before,but sold them.To be quiet honest,the silvertone plays as well,and sounds better than my hap start that I've had before.I changed the pickups on the map strat,but the silvertone sounds much better than the stock start did.I paid $160 for a package,and I'm happy,except now I want a real amp.

Just been through it so suggest 1. Does it inspire. 2. Playability, action, sharp fret ends. 3. Stays in tune. 4. Longevity, basically mechanically sound with decent finish and can be upgraded later. The last point is that you will form an emotional attachment to your first guitar and it's great to want to keep playing it as you improve and extend your guitar collection.
for me i like guitars with 22 or more frets
my first guitar was an Orange Les Paul copy by Orange which came as part of a guitar starter pack, i'm selling her this year though as i got a 2nd hand Epiphone Riviera to replace her

I would also recommend tagima tw and tg series which are fender copies too and the best bang for the buck👍
The springs in the back are really good for grabbing belly hair or even skin if you're actually using the trem. I vastly prefer backplates with a big letterbox cutout for string changes.
I would love to have a telecaster with a body contoured strat feel. The squared off feel of the tele body hurts after a bit sitting around playing it. The strat is so smoothly rounded.

I am too young to have seen Hendrix, But I saw Van Halen In Vancouver the summer of 78'. It was a Life changing experience. We had never seen Anything like that before. I was 16 years old. Soo glad I grew up in the 70's. By the way, saw them 5 times after that.

I agree, my first acoustic guitar was too big and I didn't like to play, 2nd acoustic I bought a smaller one I improved coz i was playing a lot
If you are just starting on guitar, learn the CAGED system. Do this immediately and you will save literally years of time in your progress.
I had my Dad's old Argos starter kit, a Yamaha squire. I didnt think it looked very cool, but I remember after my second lesson my guitar tutor took it off me, whacked the gain up, and showed me what that cheap piece of shit could. I knew I wanted to do that after. My point is, this video should have had some more of you guys rocking out to really show that even a cheap starter guitar can sound great, and they're a good place to start.
My first guitar was a 75£ acoustic and it has a really good action and plays good as well! (Talking about 1:44)

I agree I've been playing for years, Justin is the best teacher out there. When I was looking for a good teacher, there were a lot of showboats, that wasted your time.
i started on a squier tele. couldn't recommend it more. no trem getting in the way, evem the cheapest one stays in tune fine, action can be adjusted easily. only the pickups tend to be a little ice picky but thats a small price to pay.
How do you adjust the action? I'm looking for an affordable guitar (under £200) that will be easy to play right out of the box. Which Tele squier did you buy? Recommend?
@@ryand141 I bought a squier affinity tele in Sunburst and Maple fingerboard. Played great out of the box. Only lowered the action at the bridge saddles with a small screwdriver. Haven't bought another guitar since. I ordered it online and never tested it before. Highly recommended. Try one out if you can. If not, just get a colour you dig. I'd go for a dark/rosewood/etc. fingerboard (the maple one gets dirty really quickly) EDIT: I had to replace the output jack cover. The plastic one broke and I replaced it with one I made myself from a small sheet of aluminium I had lying around!

The action on my first guitar was awful even after having a luthier fiddle with it. I was to the point of quitting over it until i felt how much easier my friends was to play. Having a nicer guitar won’t reduce the amount of time you have to practice, but it will greatly reduce the chance you break your guitar in two.
PS I’m a huge fan of justin’s website for beginners without a teacher. It’s the best I’ve found
My first bass was a Yamaha RBX170. Beautifully made, nice action, crappy pickups but a great starter.
Almost prefer the more organic “in the room” sound
