I did 2 months in the Philippines and at the end of that i realised i couldn't live there. Thailand is just so much easier. Much better food more relaxed and just a better lifestyle.
@Tom-Lay i was happy when i got back to thailand. For your money u get much better quailty hotels in thailand as well. I was so sick of sisig ane adobo. Its hard to eat cheaply in the Philippines. Also i cant find any english food there. I had an english breakfast on my 2nd day back in thailand.
We cook food at home. We only go to out to eat to break the monotony. Living in Manila and big cities is not for us.We live in an island, retired and enjoying. Good luck.
After watching this video it has made me understand more why many younger Filipinas avoid getting into relationships with younger westerners and look to the older ones instead. You show on there that younger western men are more interested in travelling around different places and different countries instead of settling down with a Filipina and having a family together.
yup,,,and many of the young filipinas are in school, so they cannot travel that much or not for long periods...The older foreigner just stay at home or go to mall,,,Perfect for girls going to school, but the foreigner has to be living in the girls city

A lot of you people really like to jump to conclusions. My fiance is a Filipina and I'm not 100% sure about living full time there. I love The Philippines, but I don't know if I'm ready to live there full time as of yet.
@@adammason4454 It’s a very subjective opinion. Awful for you but not for others. It’s a matter of preference. But you can find Western food in the Philippines, esp in the city; or, cook it yourself. When there is a will, there’s a way.
18:45 We totally understand. Our next move is back to Thailand. Even though my Asawa is also from the Philippines and we lived there from 2019-2024 we're already planning to try Thailand after spending time there compared to the Philippines. The problem is the visa. Balikbayan year visa in PH. Hope you find your place. Safe travels always!!
Lay: before you decide if you want to leave your home town please consider the following: 1) what do you really want for your life - marriage, kids? or to travel, be nomadic? 2) Do you have the financial means to make your plans come true? How expensive will it be to live in another country? You should have about 6 months in earnings saved up also as a backup for emergencies. 3) when you were in Ireland, how much did you miss home and family/friends - will you be able to stand being away from them for months or possibly years at a time? How will they feel about you leaving - it could affect your relationships going forward. 4) In a different country, how are your rights as a citizen there, as well as healthcare and other important amenities 5) Are you willing to make sacrifices for your partner that you won't possibly regret later if the relationship does not work out (in other words, go if that's what YOU want, not just because someone else wants you to). Best of luck to you.
Most expats that live in the Philippines begin with personal struggles at around 6 months due to personal issues with their environment due to what they are use to with others places they have travelled or come from. And after they have spent a year it begins to subside with their difficulties as they become more a custom to their surroundings. There are some that can never adjust from what they know. Those that have lived in many different places seem to be able to adjust more easily than others. For myself after living outside the US where i am from based on my personal circumstances there is no way i can ever go back there as i have traveled all over the US to include Hawaii and Alaska and Guam and serving 20 plus years overseas in the military adjustment came very easy to me. I concentrated on what i like here in the Philippines which totally outweighs my dislikes of the US. I am an American and love being American, but i feel i can be an ambassador for my Country here on my resident Visa. ❤
Oh Tom, I already knew you'd be the same! This already happened before, and cheetah never changes spots. Nope, as I said, it is not the country itself - it is you! Like any other country, there are pros and cons to living there but there are always options to where you are comfortable - area where you live, food (probably the country where you'll find almost all American food or all other country's food are present), or the kind of house you want to live in, etc. Depends on your budget, too! Take Finn Snow and Martin Solhaugen, how they are finding a life for themselves there with the choices they have made, for example. Your girlfriend, always happens to be a Filipina who's from very modest backgrounds - so you're always in her kind of surroundings. Love it or leave it and nope it doesn't have to be just BGC of which you also complained about (see the pattern).
I knew it was only a matter of time before Tom's true nature was revealed. Just like a leopard, he can't change his spots. He quickly settled for Lay because he didn't think his Filipina ex-girlfriend would move on so quickly (good for her!). However, Tom lacks vision and direction. He's a wanderer, selfish, inconsiderate, and childish, even approaching 40. It's disappointing to see him repeat the same pattern. Surprisingly, he's now with another Filipina girlfriend, despite previously claiming he was tired of the Philippines and its culture.
After 5 extended trips living in the Phillipines I cannot live there long term. Yes the inconveniences are true. Yes the limited healthy fresh food is very hard to find. For me it’s the “things aren’t how they seem” that is everywhere that I can’t do. I lived in small villages near the beach or smaller towns medium sized cities in the mountains. They were the best options and I enjoyed myself. But the prevalent potential emotional reactivity I don’t like. I don’t drink, I don’t go to bars, I’m home by dark. I say that because it’s not my behavior. I am a peaceful, contented person. There are real potential “emotional” landmines when you’re the foreigner in the Phillipines. I don’t like being the target. I didn’t feel that way in Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia. For example I look like someone or I am a foreigner and someone’s wife just cheated on someone with some other foreigner and I get the emotional discharge. It’s very prevalent. I like to visit the Philippines. In general the people are the best! I’d never live there. I prefer peace and no chaos.
yup,,,i lived in cebu city for 7 years,,,u are always being watched, and many fake filipinos trying to be your friend. I would say at least half if not more asked me for money, i never lend money. Some of them would not talk to me anymore, or blocked me. Which is fine with me, and the meat in the PI is horrible.
Excellent comment and replies. I've also spent a lot of time in the Philippines and I agree completely. I don't want to go back again. There are lots of better places to spend your time and money. Malaysia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Portugal, Chile, Columbia, etc... much nicer, cleaner, safer, fewer scammers, etc...
Your lifestyle is the problem, Mr Tom You are avoiding the visa application and expense in a few weeks by going to Thailand. For some reason you do not want to stay put and rent a proper dwelling where you can buy the groceries you require and prepare the food that you like. You are becoming very controlling I’m just saying
I totally get how you’re feeling Tom. My wife and I were in a similar situation nearly 40 years ago. I don’t think living at the beach is the answer. We moved to Australia, worked, bought a house, raised kids and had a great life. We’re currently spending 3 months in the Philippines but neither of us wants to live here full time. You’re right the things that annoy us wear us down. Good luck for the future whatever you decide.
I have been living in SE Asia for 36 years now, after emigrating from UK in 1988. I have lived in several countries here and none of them is perfect. They all have good and bad points. The thing is, if you live in a place, really live, then you get your own transport (I use a 125cc scooter here in Metro Manila, quick and easy to get around on whatever schedule I want), cook at home (if easier to cook fresh and it's cheaper). You learn where all the places are when you live somewhere for a longer period. And that laundry was expensive! My local laundry in Pasig charges 240 Pesos all-in for 8kg wash/dry/fold, same day service! best pizza in Manila is at Landers cafe! And if you'd been here a couple of months ago, in the heatwave, the Pasig River smelt dreadful and the water was black.

There is a solution and that is to live in both countries..I would stay 8 months in the Philippines and 3 months in the US since I own Two houses there. I would never put my money in a bank account in the Philippines or anyplace else...for those who can afford it this is the best solution...You can have the best of both worlds and still have freedom...

Advice for Lay if you are looking for something short term he is ok but if you are looking for something permanent and someday start a family you better rethink your relationship before wasting anymore time with him before it's too late
@wally4808 Totally agree with you. I get the feeling he use girls for his ego and youtube Chanel. Lay is such a sweet beautiful young lady and all he cares about is himself . Be careful lay that him won't hurt your heart
although, as for a better and more immersive experience of Manila ... go try Maginhawa street in Quezon city.. they have decent foot traffic and activities that are up to beat with interracial, millenial couples.. i took my man in Diliman during his first 2 days in Manila.. among his best experiences here in NCR by far ^^
Don’t hate Tom. You were doing stuff like that before you met Lay. Naughty boys naughty girls gimme a break. Please don’t hate on people who enjoy the night life in Makati. What’s wrong with old men drinking beer at 11 in the morning. They do that in Europe too especially In Germany. It’s hot there we know, it’s the Philippines 🇵🇭. Tom is spoiled, he enjoys the fast food places and restaurants. Lay loves home cooking. Filipinos cannot afford to eat out everyday like you Tom. Filipinos makes way less money than you. I still don’t really know how people post Covid pandemic can generate a stable income off TH-cam unless you have heavy add revenue coming in (and that usually only goes to people with 1 million plus subscribers) or do the PayPal and Pareon thingy but even that can be limited!!! Prior to 2020 there were people that could do decent making an income of TH-cam but not anymore!!! 🤔
When you asked what Island the first thing I thought was Palawan, not sure why, I know least about it, and then you said it. It would be fun to see what you guys think of staying there!
Hi Tom, we appreciate your honest opinion, do what makes you happy and what your heart tells you, if manila or in general philippines is not for you we get that becauae everyone is different. but you cant say philippines is not the best place to live for foreigners because everyone is not like you.we have our own preference, we have different mindset, we have dont have the same level of resiliency

Try renting in Legazpi Village or Salcedo Village instead of Poblacion. Once you move there, you never have to leave and everywhere you need or want to go is walkable. You will never have to deal with traffic. More expensive but definitely worth it. You won't regret it. More premium food options too although Manila will never compare to Bangkok in terms of food.

Manila is not the place for foreigners. My husband doesnt want to stay in Manila too. Luckily, my hometown is Bohol then we can stay a bit longer there but not to the point that he will be staying in Philippines for a long time. I respect his point of view and same what Tom´s said that in Manila nothing so much to do, the traffic stops at all. Manila is if you need to shop before flying back to Europe haha.. then you can find stuffs that you need. But I lived in Manila for almost 2 decades before and it was fine then.

Hi Tom and Lay, my wife and I are back in Thailand (Jomtien Beach) for 2 months. You are spot on about the food in the Philippines. I've already dropped 7 pounds in the two weeks since we've arrived here in Thailand. The food is fresh, abundant and healthy. I tend to gain weight fast when at home in the Philippines. Filipino food is tasty but it lacks variety. On the other hand, I love both Bangkok and Manila...go figure. My wife and I enjoyed meeting you on Soi 4 several months back. We are hoping that our paths will cross once again.
Yes , it was very evident she was upset but in his defense I prefer his honesty. If they really care for each other they can work through this. She will never understand because she was raised eating this way/ menu . But she should appreciate his honesty it could be the different and with time it will just get worse because you grow resentful.

Where do you think the 2 of you will end up living, and how does that work with the whole visa situation? I completely understand what you are saying. You want the convenience of getting food when you want, and also, do you both work remotely?
It looks like every time a relationship gets serious. This guy makes excuses. She is a nice girl and I have a feeling you are going to break her heart.
The blunt honesty is refreshing. I like that you specifically explain why certain things are a struggle, rather than just making the typical (and useless) list of good vs bad things. I also appreciate the differentiation you made between travel vs. living - ofttimes this tends to be forgotten. I do not think that the food in the Philippines should present a long-term challenge, however. If you do opt to live permanently in the Philippines, you can simply cook at home and make (or ask Lay to make) whatever you want to eat. It is only because you are currently travelling, without a permanent home base, that you need to eat out more often than not. Note that island & beach life can get boring and frustrating, too, after several years. Pluses & minuses to just about everywhere. :) Thanks again for sharing - and safe travels!
Hello Tom and Lay. Good talk on understanding the experience you seek when traveling or residing in the Asian Pacific. Specifically for retirees to understand plotting your days or emptying your bucket list. The perspective of an adult couple experienced in traveling on a budget is valuable. @@TharaLetzISLANDER you can first try it in Vietnamese and Thai restaurants in the Philippines so you don't get hyped too much. Much veggie food is what foreigners like. As a multiracial couple, I think they should have talked about it off-cam. I mean, that question that Lay threw on him is related to their future as partners, something a couple should be discussing thoroughly. Now it's too obvious that she got upset with his answer. Also, I'm seeing a trend here. I've watched his vlog with the othe Filipina girl, they kind of had plans to move together in BKK and even went to check apartments, but weeks later they broke up. And now it sounds like he's doing the same to Lay.
Tom is being just honest and I can understand what he was saying. I was there in 2016 and I had to renew my passport, we have to be in line at 5:00 a.m. and it was 3:30 pm by the time we got out. Thank heavens, nowadays, you just make appointments for it.
I am retiring in the Phils in a few years. I won't retire in the city but if I had to I could. I will be purchasing house/lot in the Rizal province. Not having access to a variety of food is a copout for not living there. You just have to research and find the places you want to eat at or prepare your own. Yes, sometimes it may cost more but that is what everybody deals with. I easily can see Lay is disappointed in Tom's response about living in the city. I wish them both luck to what their future holds together or separately.

The only part of Manila that I could stay for a month or more is BGC, but that takes money. If on a budget, Vietnam, Indonesia or Thailand. I like that all Filipinos speak English so it is BGC for me. However, with Cebu developing Mactan Newtown and other spots it nice. One can go from the mountains of Cebu to the Newtown beach in about 90 minutes. IL Corso Filinvest Mall and Nustar casino area is nice but food is a bit pricey. No matter were you go now inflation is hurting everyone.

I agree with you Tom. I love the Philippines also but I cannot live in Manila or any Philippines big city. The traffic and the heat is draining. San Vicente Palawan is a nice place.
Buy a variety of raw and nutritious food from the wet markets and supermarkets and cook these yourselves. This way you can eat the food of your choice and nutritious, as well. By doing this you can save too. It's just a matter of looking for the right food and it is everywhere in the cities like where you are staying now.
You're probably not a city boy. And that's ok. But try BGC..it's a different story. Everything is very accessible and pretty much in walking distance. But if you want chill life. Try Surigao maybe?
I love Manila since I was born there and been living in Cali for a long time. I see myself retiring in Makati so I can see all my relatives and I love Filipino food especially the foods that I grew up there as a child.
I do not think he is the guy...for you. He should go working to have the money to spend. I think it is the financial aspect of him and criticising filipino food😅😅😅
Couldn’t agree more, this man lives on his YT money only, no other income. And he have the nerves and audacity to criticise the food and culture. Leave the place douche bags 😂
IMO there's also nothing wrong to criticize filipino or other food (from other countries) for that matter. But the thing is, a hungry stomach will devour even the least appetizing grub it gobbles up. Survival in this world is more important than cravings. Therefore i will rather enjoy spending my day with a gorgeous lady (Lay) than worrying for a good food.
IMO: Loyalty is the question. Filipinas want to feel loved and secure if they invest in a man emotionally. Also there is filipino pride which is sensitive, its their home as it is.

Hi folks, I built a house in Bukidnon in 2005 and moved there to live in 2008 till we returned to the UK in 2019. Living in a provincial town close to a larger city is the best option. This way you have the rural benefits of cheaper living costs and the city life and choice of food stuffs as well as medical facilites when necessary. I agree I could not live in a big city on a permanent basis. Also you surely realise that what you do for a living currently has a shelf life so it would be better to build your nest now when possible as in a few years what your currently doing to sustain yourselves is no longer possible as life and times change. Before we returned to live in the Philippines our children had already graduated and left the nest to make their own lives and we are now grandparents to four. I have seen so many changes since I first visited the Philippines in the early 1980's. Incidentaly I would also encourage Lay to train/study for the future that way she would be better prepared for life overseas or where ever or whatever the future holds for you both. Learn Tagalog and people will recognise you cannot be taken a loan of and you will integrate easier.
So what is the future of your relationship because it is hard for Filipinas to get visas for travel vblogging? Maybe just travel and remain single until your ready to settle down. My wife is a Filipina and we now live in the UK with our daughter.
The people here went ballistic towards Tom hahaha, clearly he is not in his settling down era. So here’s my 2 cents Tom you are a traveller you dont wanna be tied up in one place you should not be in a committed relationship yet unless the woman can be tucked in your side that everytime you decide to fly immediately you two can go.. Food, if you will just do the walking around you can only see those unhealthy ones. There are healthy food options here if you choose to, if only you have a place where you can cook and do food shopping, a lot of supermarkets here in Metro Manila that can provide the healthy needs if one you are also willing to spend money! But if you are just on a budget everytime then you live on what you can only afford.. Lay shouldn’t asked you that question hahaha because honestly it did caught me off.. Honesty is really hard sometimes to swallow hahaha! But you two enjoy while it last!
Theres nothing wrong with expressing opinions....as for relationship, even married couples can divorced...so its destiny...just get going..Tom n Lay..❤

I did 2 months in the Philippines and at the end of that i realised i couldn't live there. Thailand is just so much easier. Much better food more relaxed and just a better lifestyle.
Yes a lot easier here for sure
This is one of the reason his last relationship did not last

His TH-cam channel provides money but it’s not a guaranteed income and if he really wants to travel and she doesn’t…. Then he should let her go. Or he should get guaranteed income and stay put with her in Manila
A lot of you people really like to jump to conclusions. My fiance is a Filipina and I'm not 100% sure about living full time there. I love The Philippines, but I don't know if I'm ready to live there full time as of yet.
Yeah i really struggle with the food in the Philippines after 2 months there it's just awful.
Great advice to think about. ❤🙏
@@canadianlynx3068 well said
Follow your gut feeling lay.
Oh wow that is some really good advice
Good advise to Lay
I see a lot of disappointment on Lay face. Tom has itchy feet and is never going to stay in one place long. Why get into a relation?
Lay is quite a substantial person, perhaps even more so than Tom
Substantial?
100% agree to this...and poor Lay who sounds like influenced by him and agreeing to everything he says
Great Comment 👏💯 . I have the same problem..I don't eat rice or fish...I lost 60 lbs the 6 years I was there
yup,,,i lived in cebu city for 7 years,,,u are always being watched, and many fake filipinos trying to be your friend. I would say at least half if not more asked me for money, i never lend money. Some of them would not talk to me anymore, or blocked me. Which is fine with me, and the meat in the PI is horrible.
I can tell you lived there. Completely agree. I was tired of always being on the defensive. Many other options available
Thank you for your reply. I haven’t been to Chile and Sri Lanka. I’ll check them out 🙏🏼
Your lifestyle is the problem, Mr Tom
You are avoiding the visa application and expense in a few weeks by going to Thailand.
For some reason you do not want to stay put and rent a proper dwelling where you can buy the groceries you require and prepare the food that you like.
You are becoming very controlling
I’m just saying
Slowly catching up on vlogs 😂 hope you guys are well 😊 great conversation, was a good watch
Thank you! You too!
Enjoyed the video. Thank you.

Try renting in Legazpi Village or Salcedo Village instead of Poblacion. Once you move there, you never have to leave and everywhere you need or want to go is walkable. You will never have to deal with traffic. More expensive but definitely worth it. You won't regret it. More premium food options too although Manila will never compare to Bangkok in terms of food.

thailand and malaysia are the places to stay long term. I agree food is such a huge factor, but also your other concerns are valid

He was eating carenderia food.He rented a place close to bgc in the lower end area.he enjoyed the filipino food then!what change him now. When he was in Thailand he vlogs about comparing thailander girl and filipina girl he said the that filipina is better in his opinion base on his experience. Now he found Lay brought her to meet family you would think their relationship is serious. I thought that's it he will settle down .

Tom totally agree with you mate re the food situation. I lived in Thailand for 5 years and the street food and restaurant food is so much better. I have visited the Philippines for 16 weeks over the last 18 months (but not lived there0 and Filipino food is awful generally unless you're an American! However saying that, if I lived there I would be buying fresh vegs, fruit, meat and fish from the wet markets and supermarkets and cooking more at home. Looking like you've upset a few people by your comments hahaha..... BTW how can you afford to stay there and travel if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks and just working
Tom & Lay my wife said hi from Manil she is a Filipino we always enjoyed watching the video you 2 post we Thank you to make a good couple
Yes I’m so broke
IMO there's also nothing wrong to criticize filipino or other food (from other countries) for that matter. But the thing is, a hungry stomach will devour even the least appetizing grub it gobbles up. Survival in this world is more important than cravings. Therefore i will rather enjoy spending my day with a gorgeous lady (Lay) than worrying for a good food.
IMO: Loyalty is the question. Filipinas want to feel loved and secure if they invest in a man emotionally. Also there is filipino pride which is sensitive, its their home as it is.
@@aaaa1953 its not just about pride, ITS ABOUT RESPECT. If the man I love does not know how to respect my values, cultures, my country, GOODBYE! i wouldnt settle for that kind of guy. weak.

I agree re the pizza, thin crust. Philippines is a great place to travel from as a homebase. Enjoy!
Mr, Hogan. Your beautiful girlfriend is disappointed your answer❤
I think try to cook home made.plan for meals a week.get some cooking book then u can plan wht would u eat iin every day.i have a husband who is also a foreigner he doesnt like manila so everytime we stay in a province which he enjoyed taking care dogs and room around in the farm on the weekdays and weekends we go in the city to buy our stuff for weekdays in the country side.We enjoy our self and if we get bored we go to other places or travel to other countries..
100% correct 4 or 5 days MAX in Manila is more than enough.
Yep
So the question is can Lay live in Thailand ?
We shall see
The people here went ballistic towards Tom hahaha, clearly he is not in his settling down era.
@AdolfoTableux Right. He is SO lazy
Manila is no PI - there are so many great places to enjoy , and also depends if you have money ! now it seems like you just play with that girl to have an easy fun...typical ...and a utuber...a player ....
Tom, I stayed quarantined 10 days in the Golden Phoenix Hotel in Manila, I had a hard time with the food, ate mostly sandwiches and some pancakes. Be back in Manila next month, will I never learn? haha
Money is the real problem of Tom. Foreigners who can afford good food in the Philippines has no complaints. 😊
VERY TRUE. kumakain pa yan sa carinderia dati. Sarap na sarap pa 🙄
not all
@@Srts875 how can they complain when all America restaurants are available, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, Korean ,French, Thai, Vietnamese, Persian, etc and also Filipino restaurants. You can hop from one place to the other if you want. The only problem is most who complain can't afford to eat daily in these restaurants and they start complaining. In their countries, what do they eat? Eggs and bacon? There are lots of bacon in grocery stores as well as eggs. Their mind is the problem. 😊
@@JoeyZee-vs4kr yesterday he said he was bored because there was nothing to do in bgc 😂😂😂 If you cant find something to do in bgc, just buy a book and sit home
That's what happens when you don't have a real job.
Hi Tom & beautiful Lay, sorry for the late comment, just got off work.
Tom, I understand what you’re saying, anyway while you’re there in Lay’s
homeland have a wonderful time and or make the best of it. (Smile)
Lay, Tom is in your country. take care of him, feed him whatever he
