@@iitzfizzHyperias shake is very easy to explain. It rolled back in testing back in june. Ofc the train had to get put together again. That specific train rattles but only in the middle rows. It never used to rattle before. It will probably be fixed in the closed season or when it shuts this week. But every other row and the other train is very smooth
It only takes one new or over it employee to make this happen. It’s not a one off either, I’ve seen several new B$M ride reviews that have a shake. Something has changed whatever it is.
Unfortunately I’d go in to it assuming there will be a shake - since we’ve heard nothing about new components yet. This is going to be a B&M trait until it isn’t.
Given B&M's reputation, I think it would make a lot of sense if the shake were being caused by a part they have to source from somewhere else. I wouldn't think they would just start making lower quality rides out of nowhere when quality is the number one selling point of a B&M coaster. A parts manufacturer they can't control making a slight change seems to perfectly fit the scenario, especially if older coasters are developing this shake after a refurbishment. It also makes me wonder if Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia has been experiencing a similar issue. It has had a pretty rough shake for quite a long time, and I wonder if Over Georgia's maintenance team has been using parts that aren't from/approved by B&M.
B&M literally has to source everything from somewhere else. They don't have any manufacturing of their own. Of course they have their go-to places like Clermont Steel Fabricators for the track (at least in North America, I know that Silver Star's track was made in the Czech Republic), but yeah, quality issues in your supply chain can be a problem. I've seen that in my work environment too, despite being in a totally different industry.
Excellent Video. Alton Towers is my local park, so I get to ride Nemesis most weeks. The ride has improved a lot since it was re-tracked and feels faster, I believe early on it was going too fast. The only real shaking I can feel is as the train comes off the last corner into the brake run. The only difference to me is the restraints, the original trains I was held in really tight, where with the new trains there is room to spare, which for me enhances the ride experience, for some might be a bit scary. The other thing which we felt affected the old Nemesis was heat, it ran rougher on hot days and was brilliant in the rain, we haven't ridden the new re-tracked Nemesis in the heat, since we haven't had many hot days this year.
@@antonytsai6611 Correct. Winged train designs enhance any force transferred in to them from the center assembly. And they’ll tend to bounce even if the initial force was lateral.
I would argue I've done the Swarm atleast over 30 times and only ever had one ride when there was abit of a rattle (and that was just after rain). Mandrill definitely does have a shake though, expecially right ride... And nemesis there is an obvious bounce and rattle around every turn.
As an actor this hits home "The mic isn't plugged in?" It seems every time we get the perfect take there is no audio on playback...lol. Love this episode
I was so surprised when I rode Gatekeeper this season. Always my smooth go-to, it’s definitely started to get just a bit shaky. Not enough to make me not ride it, but it’s lost its buttery smoothness!
I'm a fan of early B&M inverts and have ridden many of them. Something has progressively changed because they have gotten noticeably worse. Like the OG Batman at SFGA is nearly perfect and feels very solid. It tracks exceptionally well and I didn't feel any noticeable rattles or shakes (I rode this one later and was shocked how good it still rode). But the later clones and variations like Flight Deck at CGA and Batman at SFMM are still very solid but not the same. Fast forward to Silver Bullet and it's worse, then Banshee has a noticeable rattle. Now Nemesis is apparently worse. I figured the later ones were bigger so maybe that was it but that doesn't explain why the clones aren't the same. I also rode Deja Vu at SFMM and then later rode Aftershock at Silverwood and Aftershock is by far and away better than Deja Vu ever was but it's a clone. I know those are Vekoma but same ride made at a similar time and one for some reason is miles better seemed weird to me. I never thought much of it until this video.
I've finally experienced the new B&M rattle after riding Emperor at SeaWorld San Diego last week. I found the rattle to be more present in the back than in the front. Still a great ride but I couldn't marathon it due to developing a headache.
Yeah its all a bit concerning regarding B&M, on that note im currently lapping shambhala at Port Aventura as we speak and even after 12+ years its GLASS smooth
I've ridden both the og nemesis and reborn. To me, reborn tracks smoother than the og, which was never rough but felt like it had aged a bit since opening. I rode Nemesis Inferno on Monday which is usually glass smooth but it had a very small shake just like old nemesis. Reborn did have a slight vibration but was barely noticable and didn't affect the ride experience. I also found Mandrill Mayem smooth but maybe it was because I was trying to move the vests away from my shoulders.
@@Biosynthnut well a lot of “rough” is open to interpretation. Rollercoasters in general get rougher the older you get as your body handles less stress.
From what I read it sounded like the trains were refurbished. One other thing is the track is now sand filled. I feel the replacement is slower and it is really annoying. Supposedly the jumanji coaster at Cwoa is also affected.
oh and apparently Alton Towers have identified what is causing the trains to rattle and they said they are fixing it in the off season. They have not specified what it is but seeing as they are doing it in winter when the park is closed suggests that it is extensive
Hi Ryan, I was wondering if you could do a video on height requirements on rides, how the fit of the restraints (or lack thereof) would be for people who don't meet the height requirement, and for people who would never reach the height requirement, could a supplemental restraint or harness be designed that would allow them to fit securely in the rides
Behemoth @Canada's Wonderland has acquired a headache inducing rattle exactly where you describe, the bottom (valley) after each airtime hill. Each visit can only ride twice, with hours between rides...😢
Man, the last ride I had Dr Diabolical's Cliffhanger shook so bad after the final zero grav hill I thought the train had malfunctioned or there was a flat wheel on one of the side or top trucks.
It’s part of the reason I love Iron Menace. Not only is it absurdly intense compared to the snooze fests of Griffon and Valravn, the roughness makes it feel completely out of control, it’s fucking awesome
@@DerangedleftyMakes sense seeing that Menace is fittingly themed to a 1930's ore hauler. I'm not the kinda guy to say that "it rides like one too", but it checks out. Still find the RMC Raptors and their horrible track transitions worse than any jolt or bump that Menace has.
The first B&M that I ever experienced a painful rattle on was Banshee at Kings Island. But what's odd is that opinion is just about evenly split between it having a terrible rattle and being completely smooth. I wonder if sometimes types of rattles and roughness are more impactful to certain body types. It is just so odd riding that and it causing an instant headache vs the totally smooth experience on older inverts like Montu and Talon. It doesn't make sense how the ride experience got worse for the same model.
With the nemesis reborn trains. They recycled the old ones. It was the 1994 train design, but alot of it was new. They wernt really newer invert trains, but its still new
Nemesis has a shake AND a vibration. I don’t care about either tbh as it doesn’t affect the ride experience in my opinion. I’m quite prone to headaches and feeling sick after rides and i didn’t get anything even after riding it all day and going on it a total of 40 times
So Dorney is my home park and I didn’t really feel what I thought was a shake, but I would come off Iron Menace with a decent headache. Which I thought was odd for a new ride. Then I spoke to my daughter’s friend’s mom about the headache and turns out she got it too. BUT she figured out the solution!!! Stop resting your head on the headrest. Sure enough it worked there and even at Cedar Point I finally came off gatekeeper without a headache for once!!! That vibration/shake must just channel up the headrest and shakes your head in a weird way. Only issue with head forward is you can get some neck fatigue if you’re not used to doing it but for me it made the rides tolerable again.
I don't think it's the track. Simply because I did an ERT on Nemesis and the rattle wasn't consistent across all rides. Maybe 1 in 3 rides I had out of 11 had the rattle (unfortunately didn't keep track of which trains).
Ryan your content is golden I feel like it would be next level if you animated what you’re talking about even if halved the upload frequency engagement and understanding would increase. At least worth it to try
I wouldn't even say it's recent. As far back as 2009 Diamondback I've experienced a lack of smoothness.. though DBs spot has been improved somehow in recent years. Banshee from 2014 became somewhat uncomfortable after its first 8 years though imo
Ive heard people speculate that the track is the issue and it just never made any sense. Clermont Steel does world class work with world class tolerances.
Yeah, you can feel the difference when comparing any B&M opening in North America around 2001 to Europa Park's Silver Star, whose track was made somewhere in the Czech Republic. Not sure if that happened because of capacity issues at CSF or to make it less expensive (you can truck the track pieces from the Czech Republic to Germany, but from Ohio you'd need to get them on a ship and then still truck them across half of Europe as Europa Park is far away from any coastal port). It's not bad by any means, it just feels a little less smooth (and did so upon opening) than some of the CSF made coasters.
I thought Orion had a lot of rattle when I went on it last month. Went on it 2 times and it was the only ride at all of Kings Island that gave me a headache
All i can think of this episode is why does Diamond Back have it's rattle, and why hasn't it been fixed or barely talked about? Also, The intro was amazing!!
I've always wondered if it was something to do with vest restraints vs normal restraints, being that in my experience it feels like I have more freedom in a standard OTSR, causing the forces I feel to be dampened slightly, but I guess this nemesis reborn stuff challenges that theory lol.
@@anderfrank1 The thing is, I’ve heard people repeatedly praise dominator (in its KD incarnation) for its smoothness. People sound shocked when I tell them about the insane painful jackhammering I experienced.
I ride Raptor and Banshee all the time. Raptor is 30 years old and a much smoother ride than Banshee. Banshee has a noticeable rattle especially in the back row. I don't understand it at all considering how much newer Banshee is. Your not getting thrown up against anything but it is the kind of experience where you feel like your teeth are chattering and whatnot. Raptor is also much more whippy when it comes to its inversions while Banshee may have a lot of positives but its overall a more graceful design.
im still wondering about iron menace's big jolt at the end. also in videos of it testing, at the top of the zero g roll you can see how the entire train essentially wobbles. what i find interesting though is that this shake is stronger when the train is travelling slower (at least on nemesis - the final turn is apparently the worst bit and you can actually hear it in onride videos)
I’m shocked nothing has come out in this front yet. Smoothness was a massive component of the B&M brand and it won’t take too many of these shaking rides to change that reputation.
Here's the thing guys, most average people don't even notice the things we're all here discussing. They are wooping it up, and some are scared all to hell. For you, and many others on Ryan's vids, we are enthusiasts. We notice every little flaw, every element, and every brilliance. So l kind of doubt very many people have complained, and certainly not to the company. Interesting, tho.
This hunting... Is this why Vekona SLC are so rough? Ive watched Mind Eraser at Darian lake "slam" into the track on the loops.. It is getting new trains, and a few sectional retrack. Finally.
@@ryantheridemechanic Speaking of Vekoma, could you do something on the tilt coaster that Ceder Point is getting? Like how it holds the train like that...
The trains on nemesis are not new. I spoke with the a maintenance engineer and he said they went under a major refurb in 2018 with new seat columns etc but they are still the old ones.
At some point the question becomes more philosophical in nature - how much can you actually change and still consider the trains being the same? After all, you can swap pretty much any part at pone point in time, end up with 100% different parts than what was there when the ride opened, and they'd still be the same trains? The same goes for wooden coaster and the wood along their track getting replaced constantly a bit at a time... 😉
I find Iron Menace at Dorney excessively rough. I'm a B&M fanboy, but not this ride. It's a floor-less not an invert like you talked about. I can't ride it much when I'm there.
Any idea why Iron Menace's rattle is so much worse in the back row compared to the front? I rode it about 15 or 16 times evenly spread out over the 3 rows and the back row was so much worse.
Unrelated question: Big water coasters go through big bright plastic tunnels. Rail coasters go through dark tunnels. Will rail coasters get better tunnels in the future?
@@Maccbruce theirs lots of rule and regulations around tunnels. In general people want dark. But it all depends on the park. Tunnels are super expensive to add to a ride and engineering doesn’t like them either.
Ryan during the test phase wouldn’t you expect the ride Manufacturer to have cameras rigged up all over the train to see for any abnormal movement I would thought there would be some tolerance gauge in the bogie assemblies feeding data to the manufacturer and adjust the bogie assembly accordingly

@@ot.bot.249 not against any rules. I just shroud those facts because I don’t want people thinking I represent that park or that company. Plus I also talk an pull experiences with other mechanics so I can expand what I know of as well.
Has anyone ever considered strapping GoPros to wheel carriers and on the underside of coaches pointed towards them to visually inspect what's going on?
You had mentioned that one park had replaced the component you believe to be at fault. Do you think it is likely that other parks will eventually do the same, leading to currently smooth B&M's being shakier?
I'm not a fan of B&M ..After a few seasons they are like riding a woody in a wheel seat. The inverts bang your head even fury vibrates in the rear outside seat. Valravn at CP has gotten pretty bad. The 2nd dive drop at the bottom is bad,It messes with my vision and wont ride it unless its front row. Even iron Menace at dorney has a bad shake at the end..Another great video
I have to disagree on Fury. Earlier this year, I rode in the back row in an outside seat and it was an awesome ride. And even Valravn didn't stick out as being particularly rattly last year when I was at CP. What was rather uncomfortable was Rougarou, but I just thought that was due to it being converted from stand-up to floorless.
On the new family invert in Busch Gardens Tampa it feels more like a rattle. You can hear the train rattle and feel the vibration. I believe it is the same for the new family coaster at SeaWorld Orlando. Would that be from hunting or wheels or even something else?
@@ryantheridemechanic It could be B&M tried to increase income be reducing quality a little and subconctraction does the same thing. It could be both at the same time.
@@colinschmitz8297 I would say this is side to side movement. If you referring to a vibration that increases and decreases with speed that that is just the overuse of nylon wheels that a lot of parks love. They get flat spots.
I fully realize that B&M is a popular maker, and that almost every coaster fan (or enthusiasts) finds them awesome. But I personally don't think they're THAT incredible. Like the designs, the fun, and always enjoy a B&M. But honestly, I've always found them somewhat rough. Not horribly, but definitely forceful to the point of occasional discomfort. I've also had a screw hit me and a fellow paseenger, leaving scrapes that bled. Mind you, I laughed, because I told everyone Montu bit me! 😅 And also, sometimes recently, on other coasters by B&M that I've ridden around the country, the brakes are sudden or squeaky. Maybe it's just a "me" thing. I will add that most riders who aren't versed in coasters, tend to not even notice the janks. They're too thrilled to even be on em. 😂Love you and your opinion. Thanks for always giving me a grin and making my mental wheels turn.
Look at Scream (2003) at SFMM vs Medusa (2000) SFDK....Scream shakes, rattles and rolls like a Chuck Berry Concert.... Medusa is STILL smooth as silk. .... Both are floorless and both are relatively the same age... And in a similar climate.... What's your take on that?
@@IAmAnonymyz I’ve spent time with both. Medusa uses urethane wheels and Scream is all nylon. Nylons are very rough in general because the mater does not absorb vibration. My opinions

This is going to be a B&M trait until it isn’t.
@@Danrarbc I think it’s a remnant from Covid supply chain issues.
@@ryantheridemechanic Well. If that’s the case hopefully B&M can apply some pressure to the supplier and get them to go back to the old tolerances.
That intro was golden!!!😂😂😂😂😂
@@djflash84 thanks. Love doing fun things like that from time to time.
@@richywiggins3845 good to know thanks!
The Swarm and Mandrill Mayhem, both B&M wings, have a bounce which feels distinct from Nemesis' shake on the last turn into the brakes.
Probably because they’re wing coasters and you’re far away from the centre of the train so every small vibration is exacerbated

We were at Seaworld a few days back, penguin trek had a very definite shake throughout, and a definite jolt at a specific part.
I hear lots of new B&M have a jolt at one point or another. not great.
I noticed this "shaking" a few times on the new Penguin Trek coaster at SeaWorld in Orlando. Definitely felt...unsettling.
I noticed it as well along with pipeline though less noticeable, also had a similar experience on Phoenix at Busch Gardens
I feel like the Hulk retrack is subject to this too. Even though the coaster was recently retracked, it still rides extremely rough.
I've finally experienced the new B&M rattle after riding Emperor at SeaWorld San Diego last week. I found the rattle to be more present in the back than in the front. Still a great ride but I couldn't marathon it due to developing a headache.
@@Rroachball no fun
Nemesis Reborn was definitely no smoother than the 30 year old OG, glad im not the only one to notice
Yeah its all a bit concerning regarding B&M, on that note im currently lapping shambhala at Port Aventura as we speak and even after 12+ years its GLASS smooth
Great insight thanks
I've ridden both the og nemesis and reborn. To me, reborn tracks smoother than the og, which was never rough but felt like it had aged a bit since opening. I rode Nemesis Inferno on Monday which is usually glass smooth but it had a very small shake just like old nemesis.
Reborn did have a slight vibration but was barely noticable and didn't affect the ride experience. I also found Mandrill Mayem smooth but maybe it was because I was trying to move the vests away from my shoulders.
I've read a few people mention Silverstar is rough. When it first opened it was smooth as glass.

In the last 2 seasons, I notice what I call more a rattle in mainly the valleys on banshee and diamondback at King's Island.
oh and apparently Alton Towers have identified what is causing the trains to rattle and they said they are fixing it in the off season.

I don't know about a B&M shake but the B&M rattle is real. Seems to happen on the Hypers when coming down from an airtime moment.

Riding a B&M in the old Vekoma/Arrow style. Interesting idea.
@@Colaholiker yup except your not slamming your head into those old style over the shoulder restraints lol.
I don't think it's the track. Simply because I did an ERT on Nemesis and the rattle wasn't consistent across all rides. Maybe 1 in 3 rides I had out of 11 had the rattle (unfortunately didn't keep track of which trains).

Ive heard people speculate that the track is the issue and it just never made any sense. Clermont Steel does world class work with world class tolerances.
@@TrueLies23 and Clermont is just going to do what B&M tells them to do. So I really doubt it’s the track.
I noticed the rattle really badly on nemesis opening weekend but my most recent ride last week the train was glass smooth

@@TheCoasterSerpent when you say teeth chattering I feel that’s just the nylon wheels.
im still wondering about iron menace's big jolt at the end. also in videos of it testing, at the top of the zero g roll you can see how the entire train essentially wobbles. what i find interesting though is that this shake is stronger when the train is travelling slower (at least on nemesis - the final turn is apparently the worst bit and you can actually hear it in onride videos)
So maybe it rly is smth to do with the track manufacturing and Clermont Steel changed their tolerances after the pandemic
I definitely see it now that you mentioned it
Hopefully B&M gets a service bulletin out there at some point because this has become a pretty pronounced and dramatic trend.
I’m shocked nothing has come out in this front yet. Smoothness was a massive component of the B&M brand and it won’t take too many of these shaking rides to change that reputation.

Any idea why Iron Menace's rattle is so much worse in the back row compared to the front? I rode it about 15 or 16 times evenly spread out over the 3 rows and the back row was so much worse.
