Based on what you're saying, then: The Cedar Point retrofit of Top Thrill Dragster into Top Thrill 2 must be a really landmark case. Since Zamperla must've agreed to take liability for the remaining Intamin-built top hat (and a good 70% of the original structure that will remain).

my local park just shut down their water park tube rapid slide. They said the manufacturer said its life span is over. The slide is a cement trough with dips and turns and a tunnel and guests go down it in single person tubes. I don't get it. I'm guessing the only thing that they could be talking about are the water pumps. But so what... just buy someone else's pumps and keep it going. I think it's just an excuse by the park because I believe water pumps are quite the daily expense.

@@joeskis it’s a hard concept to take in. Just because it’s running. Doesn’t mean it’s ok. Seems fine looks fine. But when you inspect it you come back with a laundry list of things wrong. Most would be major problems where repair rivals the cost of the attraction. On a flat ride, a drive upgrade is enough to take a ride out and toss it. It was working fine. To the public nothing was wrong. But there you might also have they needed to take it out to make way for a newer slide in its spot.

It really like you said does depend on the park to take care of the ride. Some parks decide to tear down the coaster and others do a full retrack or they have extra maintenance on top of everything. Kumba is a 30 year old B&M and they take a month every year to overhaul the trains and do a full inspection on the track. It might get a full retrack like nemesis or hulk but every time i ride it after the overhaul it runs very well, not brand new but you can tell the thing is taken care of.

    • @ryantheridemechanic

That’s a good thing. Parks at quick to not spend money because it’s a “new ride” then 10 years down the rodeo they complain because the ride is costing more than “usual” to operate….. usual was nothing. Maintain it like that and you will soon have nothing to maintain.

Cedar Point definitely knows how to Maintain their older Rollercoasters. But Magnum XL2Painful needs a New Track Overhaul, and the Airtime Hills after The Pretzel Turn Around needs to be Reprofiled to be like that of Mamba at World's of Fun, and Steel Force at Dorney Park. Magnum XL2Painful is nothing but a Torture Device. Serious Black, and Blue Bruises to the thighs of riders.

That’s no fun. Most parks won’t do anything until either the track or train start cracking unfortunately.

Yeah magnum could use retracking, but those triangle hills in the magic seat are pure airtime. Airie force one eat your heart out

I’ve worked on plenty for rides that were 40-50 years old. Like built in the early 70s. No issues with them. It was interesting to see an end of life date on equipment. Never see it before.

@@ryantheridemechanic I have, I've worked on rides that are approaching the century mark, but have also seen many newer models that have a lifespan of 25-30 years. Its mind boggling to me that a Dentzel Carousel can still operate today, but a Chance Century from 94 cannot. Go figure.
