    The Great Hank Ballard!!! A great entertainer, song writer and singer. He was born to do what he did. I met Hank through my friend Brendan Mullen in LA when he played here . I’m so glad I got to know him. James Brown had such respect for his talent. I loved to listen to his stories. A true talent!!!
    A Great person!!!

Met hank in 60 then dick clark in 73 and lennyvwilliams and quincy jones when I lived in hollywood and tower of power time. Lenny williams help me load my car when I was leaving for a mission in asia turn out I ended up last american out of Cambodia at start of genocide The Killing Fields.

    Would have loved to have been a musician in that era some of the greatest songs were written , it was live raw and honest . Musicians like Hank Ballard and Chuck Berry were my biggest influences and inspirations to keep learning writing and playing. Hank Ballard wrote so many great songs that in my opinion should have gotten more recognition than they did

    Why was Chubby Checker's rendition of "The Twist" more popular than the original?

    • @dennisgallagher
      @dennisgallagher ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Probably because he had Dick Clark behind him and Hank Ballard was a purveyor of "race" music with some naughty songs on his resume who did not get airplay on most white stations.

      @@dennisgallagher Sounds like a reasonable explanation.
      I just noticed that in this event, Ballard actually credits Checker and Clark, I guess for popularizing the song.

    W'pedia mentions the personnel in the group by name, but nothing about their races. The vid shows that the band was integrated. At least three members look like they came from European ancestry.
