I agree, as well as, the The Five Stairsteps. Both were very underrated groups. New Birth has to be one of those great bands of the '70's that has gone under the radar. All we really know today of The Five Stairsteps is "Ooh Child."
I LOVE NEWBIRTH/shout out to MY MOM(RIP) for nevr exposing my baby ears to wack music!!!EVERY MEMBER OF THIS BAND WAS NECCESSARY. I swear, I like all their songs!!
I'm a white french dude in his forties and it's 2021. I wish I was a 20-ish black man only to be proud to witness this live in the early 70's. But I'm just a white french dude in his forties, in 2021, so I'm just digging this video.
It was the best/worst of times for a young Black male in that era. We put a lot of emphasis on the greatness of our artists of the time because it was all we had. Being French, you had a (safe) perspective of that era.
They are so overlooked. This looks to be just a little bit ahead of the time gangs and cocaine crept up on our lives and communities. Folks dressed up nice to go out enjoy great well-rehearsed raw talent. Seeing them I feel the joy and pride of being a part of Black American music. I'm looking for that Unsung episode about New Birth. That's the great Londie Wiggins singing with the also great Wilson brothers and all the other 12 or 14 members of this combp group. One of my all time favorites.
Jessica was early member of Earth.Wind and Fire, not New Birth or Peace,Love and Happiness. Think your referencing Ann Bogan who left the group shortly after it took off big. All good.
Have mercy!... From the vaults of Black Excellence... this clip is so beautiful. Message to our youth in today’s music ‘industry’... THIS is music. Study and learn. Go back to this and stay true to yourselves.💜🙏🏾💯
Okay, I'm like soooo impressed right now. Who can comment when you are totally engaged in a mini New Birth concert. If there are any misspelled words forgive me. I've been blindsided. I adore this group!!!
Madtown7501: The opening number is a funked-up version of "I Just Want To Make Love To You" written by Willie Dixon and first recorded as a blues number by Muddy Waters in 1954 (sometimes listed as "Just Make Love To Me"), though the instrumental portion at the beginning was, more than likely, something the Nite-Liters put together themselves.

One of my favorite R&B groups from back in the 70s. First dug the Nite-Liters than New Birth. Largely unsung and unheralded today. Well, I still immensely dig their musicianship. Tight ensemble with a metronomic drummer and amazing range of vocal coloring.

The COLDEST, and funkiest, self- contained group ever! No group today(2024), can ever hit with the power vocals, BRASS,bass&drums that these funky mofo's did! #PainsOfLove✊🏾
Love, Peace and Happiness included in this masterpiece show. They recorded over 12 albums in 4 years with the 3 groups. Instrumental group, vocal group and all together (New Birth). Great show.
Not just great singers and musicians, but all look like athletes with modestly covered 6 and 8 packs. Wish I could go back in time and have a seat in that audience. Wow!

Bledsoe became a national figure b/c SOUL aired nationally on public TV throughout the nation, at cities who were fortunate to have access to public television networks. very much pre-cable TV.

The "Soul!" TV show, produced by Ellis Haizlip over the pre-PBS WNET-Tv in New York was the precursor to Don Cornelius' "Soul Train" and provided exposure for singers, poets, Black leaders of that time including Ashford & Simpson (their first Tv appearance), Earth, Wind & Fire, Labelle, Jimmy Castor, Stevie Wonder, The Last Poets, Nikki Giovanni and Imamu Amiri Baraka. This particular show was aired November 1, 1972, unfortunately, right after Ann Bogan left the group, missing a golden opportunity to capture the subgroup Love, Peace & Happiness, who were replaced on the show with the Moonglows.
What I like about the intro is when they mention Names of the band members.I've heard quite a few mention that had careers in other places in the music industry. How nice you think, sometimes that after that band dissolved that they just went away too.No they will salt after by other people
The lead singer, Leslie Wilson, deserves a posthumous Grammy for his vocal contributions to Black music history!!!
