Or then again, if you think that it is fun to theory craft, needs it to cope or enhance the story, and necessary to assume things then by all means do but FF VII as an IP was never about "level 4-10" cliffhangers like KH (and OG can't have been riddled with many hidden meanings as it was created as a single entity, but DoC do end with a cliffhanger but arguably "high" tier of convolution) and should not be treated by the kind of fan theorizing that that IP "needs", even if it now has the same director. Maybe there is some truth in every fan theory but every story and its meaning can be rewritten and changed by additional media anyway, especially with time-travel/omnitemporalism as that opens up changes to anything, everything and "all"thing, whenever, however and "why"ever. Even a normal table spoon can become the biggest macguffin, or it can remain a simple tablespoon. People somehow think that this time there will be a definite ending, yet the writers and developers have shown us that they are willing to add whatever just to tailor a new story so people should not be surprised when even more is simply changed to fit yet another story with another goal. Even if the remake ends with a "definite" ending by having Zack, Cloud, Sephiroth end multiverse/cycle-stuck Sephiroth with an endless lifestream blade of time and memories in 10 years 23 years after that SE might think it is time for more FF VII and just make more changes with notes left by Nojima or Nomura or whoever gets any say.
Hearing the music in the video, it reminded me of the music from the menu of the Tobal No. 1 Demo Disc back in 1996 - and it was! I guess they found a use for it. :-)
Fun fact @ Summoning materia. The concept was used that they were going to with. The idea was when the summoning materia was using something merged with the beast inside from the player character effecting or effectively changing memories of the party over time which is why cloud is supposedly having flashbacks randomly in some parts of the game and in others he's completely fine after they decided to cut the concept. That being said ff8 did the same thing via the junctioning system wherein when GF's were used entire childhood memories were erased short of small glimpses through dreams. That was left in and you find out about it the first time you hit Matron's Orphanage.
9:49 This was exactly what I had hope Sephiroth to be like in FF7 Remake. Sephiroth's appearance in the Remake was too early to be feared of his character. He doesn't feel like a fearful character to me anymore since his presence constantly there.
When FFVII released, everyone was just talking about how amazing that game looks and how beautiful the backgrounds are. Just because of that I, quite a smol child back then, became somewhat against it. Because you know, graphic isn't everything! After I first played it though, it became one of my most loved games. Certainly the game that had the biggest emotional impact on me. By far. My dad sold the copy before I could finish it (his psx). Years later I bought a used ps1 and FFVII again and finally finished it. I also bought it again on PC and my phone and finished it there too. And I bought a ps4 only to play the remake. At this point I have more copies of FFVII then I have copies of skyrim.. and I'm proud of it.
6:04 there is actually a treasure chest in Kalm that cannot be opened. It was supposed to contain the Titan materia. Maybe that would be the eventual reward?
The crystal cave picture, in terms of map design looks a lot like one of the maps used anyhow, and the location of the chest is almost exactly the same as where you can find the semi hidden ribbon in that zone. Maybe they tossed it for redundancy reasons, or it was just a piece of art made to reflect what they actually did put in the game.
I hope you do another video about unused assets in FFVII and other games in the series. There is an unused cave past the Sleeping Forest. I know it’s an unused asset because there is a polygon walking path within the rendered backgrounds that goes to that cave. I suspect there are many other interesting unused assets in FFVII.
my favourite one (that's kinda the opposite?) is the developers leaving the debug names of spells in the English version - which is why it's Bolt3 instead of Thundaga etc
I don't know if any of you played Xenogears. In a scene I think after the final fight, I remember I was intrigued when one of the characters said something like "the path of Sephiroth"... If you remember it, do you think those games are somehow connected?
In a way yes because xenogears was supposed to be the original FF7 but, they said it was to dark. On the other hand I think it was referring to a religious text rather than the character .
This channel has such a weird padded feel to it, on the one hand obscure interesting development information, on the other spending loads of time telling a final fantasy audience basic gameplay or story elements about the game.
None of them were completed! One of the devs, an Event Planner at Square, said as such before 5 Fan Theories were put to him! Four of which he then proceeded to rubbish...
@@Mangomesh Yeah, it's on TH-cam! A guy put these 5 Fan Theories to a Square Dev who worked as an Event Planner for VI, VII, VIII and X in particular! The "Aeris Revival", "Same Gogo in VI as in V", "Squall's Disc 1 Death" and "Rinoa and Ultimecia: The Same Person" were all rubbished! Howver, he liked the "VII & X Link" Theory, though, mind! About as reliable a source as you can get, methinks, no?
I read an article recently that suggested early production of the game was delayed due to three factors: the team working on it was diverted to help finish Chrono Trigger, Square trying to decide if it was going to support the PS1 or N64, and the Square team having no experience with polygon graphics.
Even till this very day, Square still has a habit of showing teaser trailers to their games, then when time passes, they alter A LOT of differences from the past trailers. Not that its a bad thing, I'm always interested to cut content that didn't make it to the final game.
Also if your curious and want to derp around on the deep web. there is no full pre-segmented game for ff7 but with the right emulation you can play out all of the cut content from the creator rep dump. Like the treasure chest at the glacier you can find out held the same final item as the frog hunting section where you have to dodge obstacles to get further. It was cut because of how the wire framing of the game works, they stuck it in a bad spot because they couldn't stretch the frame into the artwork properly. AKA an idiot who was an art developer thought he was a graphics developer and did something stupid. Believe the item was the Apocalypse and shortly after you were supposed to find the Typhon materia.
I've had a weird emotion with the remake. I play video games to relax, and the remake is super exciting. But I love how the original is relaxing to play. You can take your time if you want. I really wish the remake was just a 4k remaster of the original 😕
I often wonder how VII wouldve turned out if the dev team had another year to work on it, I mean severalk things were cut out (Aeriths resurrection being the #1 thing) due to time constraints... oh well, maybe we will se her live in Remake...
Scope. Story. Combat. Enemy variety. Final Fantasy VII had it all and it smacked the world like a sledgehammer. The only reason they bothered to remake it is because it was so great, throw in some fan chiding too. Though, we didn't ask for a change to the story. It fucking sucks but at least we get to see things in better fidelity. Honestly if they had kept the game the same but re released it on PS3 graphics we would have been really happy. The decision to go modern is far more expensive and time consuming. I don't know what they were thinking, bringing in someone from another RPG franchise to do this one. I miss summons being mini cinematics and I really hope Omni Slash and Final Heaven are their original selves. So far limit breaks are awesome. Once upon a time I said I wished they do the same thing for Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, and Chrono Cross. After seeing how easily they'll piss all over a story I've since changed my mind.
One of the few flaws of FF7 in my eyes is that they never explained Summons in the full game. And I always thought the Red Dragon appearance was kinda random. It bums me out to learn they had something in mind about it but decided to cut it out.
Wonder if they’ll be diving into Simmons for the remake since some of them, specifically Shiva and Leviathan, have some lore tied to them. For Shiva it was said that she helped heal a wound by freezing it with a glacier which was the northern crater and for Leviathan I don’t remember exactly what the loading screen description said but it mentioned that Leviathan had a history with Wutai I think as a protector. Also a scene in the remake depicts that summons were created by the Cetra which is similar to what summons were originally suppose to be in the original before it got cut.
This is exactly why I don't like what they did with Sephiroth in the remake. At 9:50 they talk about how Sephiroth was modeled around "Jaws"... he received little screen-time but was feared because of this... by how little we knew of him and his evil-belittling remarks when he seldom DID speak. The Remake has Sephiroth in WAY too many scenes, speaking WAY too much and there is very little "mystery" about him. They RUINED the build-up for Seph completely. And THEN they have us fighting him in the final chapter of the game as well. Smdh.
I agree with you but they’re doing this on purpose because he’s trying to change the entire storyline of what happened in the original. It’s really awesome to me tbh he’s so badass he’s trying to go back to the past and change the entire first game just to achieve his plan
Agreed. The gaming journalism outlets that rated it with a perfect score were obviously riding the nostalgia train pretty hard, because there's a lot of bad in the remake. It was fun, it was pretty, but it was clearly around a 7/10.
So besides the craziness that is the cut content of this game. Speaking of Final Fantasy VII. How did you react when Sephiroth came into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?
I hope Cloud and Tifa underneath the airship is put into the remake, the tension is there and cmon, anyone fighting Sephiroth needs a cherry pop. Go on Cloud, you mad lad.
I hope Cloud and Tifa underneath the airship is put into the remake, the tension is there and cmon, anyone fighting Sephiroth needs a cherry pop. Go on Cloud, you mad lad. From you reading this I finished the video, what I messaged before was half way through. What you said at the end about Sephiroth, he represents God. Cloud I feel represents humanity. It's the only thing that seems to be able to beat Sephiroth, every time, is Clouds humanity, why I love FF7. Cloud is a very human character, despite having godlike S-Cell treatment. But what makes the SPOILERS of this game so good, is I can't wait for part 2 and how it's going to carry on
"Along with the various dining options available" ... Um the "courses" are not dining options, they are how long your "session" is with that woman depending on how much you pay. 30 Min or 150 min
Why will nobody call the OG honeybee what it was - a brothel. Also on the cut screenshot they are not advertising meal courses, but a selection of offers of their sex workers. Short 30 minutes course, long 150 minutes course. It's not about dining, it about getting it on. Those times plans are common for clubs offering sexual services in japan to this day. I was also pretty disappointed with the remake, which just turned the honeybee into a variety show club.
Errrmmm..... I went to school with the guy that actually wrote the theme song. Or opening song rather. Ff7 execs snatched it up from him and he never got paid. 🙄 ..

Lol i bought a PS4 solely for the remake as well.
Oh dude, what a good video. Highly appreciate this
Glad you enjoyed it Glukon! :)
I remember in Kalm there is a chest that can't be opened, a Titan materia was supposed to be in it, but was scrapped
6:50 this definitely sounds like some sort of test track. Maybe testing sound samples? And they forgot to remove it lol
You missed Cloud and Tifa gingerly walking out of the chocobo barn after getting some action
Maybe they'll put that in the remake.
The times are a changin'!
6:04 there is actually a treasure chest in Kalm that cannot be opened. It was supposed to contain the Titan materia. Maybe that would be the eventual reward?
Let's not forget about the tissue or the Super sweeper items.
and the miniature soldier toys, and masamune replica
@@vincevvn Exactly.
@@vincevvn This makes me think that the original FF7 was supposed to be longer than what it was
Tissues are a common consolation prize in Japan.
@@evandavis5223 Oh now that I didn't know
I think aeriths theme being haunting sounded deeper and sadder. Like she just had this sadness in her which made sense knowing what she knew
Amigo soy nuevo en tu canal y tú contenido está muy genial saludos desde México
Damn a treasure trove of unknown stuff! Was that alternative prelude ever made available via official release?
The crystal cave picture, in terms of map design looks a lot like one of the maps used anyhow, and the location of the chest is almost exactly the same as where you can find the semi hidden ribbon in that zone. Maybe they tossed it for redundancy reasons, or it was just a piece of art made to reflect what they actually did put in the game.
@6:56 Isn't this caused by the standard Aerith-theme just having the wrong sound-font applied?
Interesting. Wonder if there's any hidden content in the demo that came packaged with Tobal 1
That mini-monologue could have been inserted between Bizarro and Safer.
This channel provides best FF content.
Games a legend. Even it's development was legendary.
I love your Videos. Please keep it up!
Thanks Forron, we'll try our best! :)
I have the FFVIII demo. It's from the Playstation Magazine. I have a few of the demo discs with lots of fun demos.
the free "JAMPAK"s are responsible for most of my childhood video game experiences
Amazing how we still are finding things out about this game over 20 yrs old lol
thanks for the video
my favourite one (that's kinda the opposite?) is the developers leaving the debug names of spells in the English version - which is why it's Bolt3 instead of Thundaga etc
Can someone please explain that clip at 0:44 of Yuffie hiding in the hotel at Kalm!?!?!
A lot of Xenogears was based on the Jewish Kabbalah, which is the mysticism of the religion. The "Sefirot" is the path to God.
Also Cosmo Canyon theme is still the best theme in the entire history of FF7. Megaran does a killer rap version of Cosmo canyon.
This channel has such a weird padded feel to it, on the one hand obscure interesting development information, on the other spending loads of time telling a final fantasy audience basic gameplay or story elements about the game.
Best soundtrack everrrrrrrrrr
Bear in mind that FF7 was never finished, they rushed it to get it released before Christmas. Many things didn't make the cut such as unused materia.
None of them were completed! One of the devs, an Event Planner at Square, said as such before 5 Fan Theories were put to him! Four of which he then proceeded to rubbish...
@@CD-Gaming Please elaborate, I'd like to know more. Do you have a source?
The black materia is kept in an unnecessable chest in the Inn near gasts house
(6:50) I can hear it...
I will always hear it.
I always will have heard it.
I always had a feeling the summons were protecting the planet
Greetings from Finland!
I find Final Fantasy VII development as fun as playing the game itself. Three years of good efforts in development.
I've had a weird emotion with the remake. I play video games to relax, and the remake is super exciting. But I love how the original is relaxing to play. You can take your time if you want. I really wish the remake was just a 4k remaster of the original 😕
What's the first song that plays?
So Sephiroth was like Jaws only appearing occasionally? Not like the remake then where he's in your face right at the beginning. Shame that.
Wow I hope they tie the summon lore back into the remake
I often wonder how VII wouldve turned out if the dev team had another year to work on it, I mean severalk things were cut out (Aeriths resurrection being the #1 thing) due to time constraints... oh well, maybe we will se her live in Remake...
@Paradigm fusion is it true it only took a year to make?that can't be true

I think they might make the summons cannon in remake
Im ready for this please surprise me
this will be the last one i promise
really how the fuck hwo you know that i feel like not a fan at all.
please that aeris song is destroying my life memories i cant believw thsi
Im sorry but even if you surprised me all along that golden chest art thing sounded really dumb
Nice bro
Scope. Story.
That thumbnail though
This Chocobo is for the Final Fantasy algorithm.
I’m actually surprised to learn the game was developed in just a year. I guess this explains why FF8 and 9 both had far better graphics than 7 did.
FF7 will always be forever my favorite game ever of all time
7:25 Is Aerith sick?
I can't believe they didn't add the side quest 😔
Awesome.
You said Jenova Absolute in the last example. I think you meant Jenova Synthesis. Sorry to be that guy
I was going to be that guy until I saw your comment 😂
Nothing wrong with being that guy! Thanks for pointing out the error :)
A traveling salesman asking you to deliver mail. Sounds like ff9 moogles.
Smdh.
Yes! Completely agree, unfortunately Kitase said because Sephiroth is a popular well-known character keeping him a mystery wouldn't work.
Pretty much shows Sephiroth knows what will happen to him. Which why he intervene very early
And he is still mysterious, especially from new players and even from us. Seeing the hidden context and subtext of the remake
Why is cloud beating and raping aerith while Barrett watch in disbelief 🤣 1:04 little cloud looks off in the distance
So besides the craziness that is the cut content of this game. Speaking of Final Fantasy VII. How did you react when Sephiroth came into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?
I never understood where bugenhagen went after he passed. He just disappeared.
And yet Square Enix still has no plans to use the deleted content in the remake.
I hope Cloud and Tifa underneath the airship is put into the remake, the tension is there and cmon, anyone fighting Sephiroth needs a cherry pop. Go on Cloud, you mad lad.
We live in the Era of Softness. Theres no way they would have the balls to even try to be subtle about it in the remake.
What a lovely group of young men
Did I just see 3 Clouds in 1 party?
I'm so glad the rape scene wasn't used, maybe Cloud has a chance not to be so fucked up in the near future xD
But what makes the SPOILERS of this game so good, is I can't wait for part 2 and how it's going to carry on
No really im coming back to make the comment if they change the cosmo canyon theme im going to cry like a mog that cant find a kupo nut.
You can say these unused assets are a 'Fantasy'
Shame they didn't use that "jaws" inspiration for Sephy in the remake.
Errrmmm..... I went to school with the guy that actually wrote the theme song. Or opening song rather. Ff7 execs snatched it up from him and he never got paid. 🙄
..
Sure, sounds legit...
Wait wait wait......FF7 wasn't the one developed in one year. That was FF6.
