    There have been countless bosses featured throughout the history of the Final Fantasy franchise... but while some are just tough as nails due to their attributes, there are others who end up taking things much further and just come across as... cheap.
    Whether it's because they pull out surprising moves, adapt to your strategies or just break the established mechanics of the game, these bosses just don't play fair and beating them serves as a significant achievement.

      There is a lot of cheapness in ffs bosses and monsters in general. The problem is that you are already too invested in the game to just leave it.
      The cheapness i hate the most, is when the game breaks its own rules, so you don't have a base to build a strategy. I was recently playing ffx2 on pc. I was on Via Infinito floor 80, SuperBoss Chac. He turned to stone two characters, broke the stones and then made an attack that killed whatever was left: i said "ok, now i know"; so i reworked my party and equipment so that they could still be strong, but at the same time having stone protection (ribbon, stoneproof), so that there is 0% chance of having any on my party turned into stone.
      Second try against Chac: chac converts my characters into stone...

      May sound silly, but for me the cheapest boss is Omega Weapon ff8. Purely going by cheap terms. I can't think of any other boss that punished you for reaching max level, so going into Omega Weapon level 100, for your 1st time, will really ruin your day! (going of experience, I enjoyed Hell's Point to much).

    re: Magic Master. There was a very interesting mechanic for that entire tower that you missed. Every enemy, including the Magic Master, would die if they ran out of MP. This meant that it was far easier to use your Rasp and Osmose spells when climbing the tower than to use other traditional spells. And because of this mechanic, you could avoid being hit with ultima entirely if rather than reducing his HP to 0, you focused on his MP. Get his MP to zero, he will die, and upon death, he will not have the MP required to cast ultima, meaning that it would not go off.
    You could make this encounter even easier by casting berserk on the Magic Master at the start of the fight, cutting him off from anything other than physical attacks, then using the Phantom magicite to turn your party invisible, meaning that no attacks would hit you and you could just use Rasp over and over until he died making him probably the easiest boss in the game to cheese outside of the Vanish + Doom exploit.

    I was confused by this, tried to swap around some skills or something and the same thing happened again.

      Ozma is absolute trash and the definition of unfair. You can beat him with some luck with a lvl 7 Freya, while at the same time, he can instant kill and entire party of lvl 99's in one go. He has an arsenal of missable steals and missable drops and a unique card with random arrows and stats. If you go for a perfect run, good luck with this dude.

  • @AlainSTO
    @AlainSTO ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I think what people also had to remember about Wiegraf is that back in the day, you couldn't just rotate saves. Memory cards only had 15 blocks for you to use and you definitely had other games using those 15 blocks (some probably with different saves too). So you didn't think to save over it because you've almost always seen the world map after every battle.

      I love ffx, one of my favourites. But also, one of the most frustrating at parts. The gameplay had some newness to it: it was all about resolving the situation at the moment. Instead of "die, prepare, try again", it was "you find this enemy, change your party members (and equipment) at the moment, rework your strategy while ongoin and defeat your enemy"; but somehow, the game most challenging (not optional) bosses relied on this cheap move: "die, prepare, try again"; it is frustrating when a game makes itself difficult by going against the mechanics it taught you in the first place.
      Also: the 2 bosses that instant ko your whole party are the ones that come after an unskippable and super long cutscene.

    For Progenitorial Wrath in FF13, you could switch your Paradigm to have your two non-leaders become Sentinels. This would force them to spam Provoke, which would increase the chance of Orphen targeting them with Progenitorial Wrath instead of the leader. Reviving party members doesn't take too much time, so you can paradigm shift again to get back into the fight pretty quick. Also, Orphen can cast Progenitorial Wrath during Consummate Dark, so there's a chance of Orphen immediately killing you since it *always* begins the fight by shifting stances.

    • @05weasel
      @05weasel ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Especially with her being a late game boss and you being conditioned for the whole game to remove status ailments as quickly as you could and even her first phase drilling that home with her blind, sleep, and silence counterattacks. Then second phase you get into a good groove of curing of zombie. Then you get her down to one attack left before she goes down, get zombie cured, get everyone on full health, and deal the last blow to enter the third stage strong and boom. Mega-death. Everything you’ve been conditioned to do is wrong. Even the boss fight with Seymour shortly before this had a mechanic that showed you you need to get rid of zombie asap. It’s brilliant in the most annoying way possible.

  • @blainy-o93
    @blainy-o93 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Needs more Midgar Zolom and Seymour Flux. Especially for those playing a blind/first playthrough. The Zolom for just being stupidly powerful the first time you meet him (and didn't bother going to the Chocobo Farm), ejecting party members, and using the beast of an enemy skill Beta. And Seymour Flux for firstly inflicting the zombie status then casting Full-Life immediately after. If you survive that hot mess, there's his other attack which can wipe your whole party out at once. He also casts things like Haste and Protect once you get him to a certain HP gate. And last but not least, that stupidly long cutscene you're forced to sit through beforehand, similar to the Riku fight at the top of Hollow Bastion in KH1.

    For me, it would be Omega from Final Fantasy XV. It takes 1% damage from all weapons except the Royal Arms, which drain your HP when attacking, and lightning magic, which dealt 80% damage. On top of that, it has insanely high stats which can allow it to wipe out a party with postgame gear. And it's attacks do incredibly high damage, and even go through the Magitek attire's shield, which is in my opinion, the go-to attire for tough bosses. But not here. It can also inflict ailments such Confusion and Toad. There is an antenna on it's head, in which resistances don't apply and attacks deal 200% damage. But attack that and it would go into Berserk Mode, where it loses all resistances, but actually becomes immune to the Royal Arms, and will charge around the battlefield, keeping players on their toes. It also had a giant blue laser attack that would bypass the Danger state, outright killing anyone who wasn't wearing Ardyn's Ensemble and at 9999 HP, but even then massive damage would still be dealt.

      @caetanolunardi3429 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The Magic mMster problem was never to defeat him as he only cast elemental magics and have mediocre defenses. The cheap shot of the developers was making him cast Ultima when defeated as you have no way to avoid it since Runic and Jump are not selectables. Your only soluction is:
      1- cast Reraise on party (need the Phoenix magicite)
      2- cast Palidor summon at the right time to make the party jump.
      3- have a party with more than 6k hp.
      4- make him waste his 50k mp.
      Since no one have this much hp in his ff6 run outside of specific grindings and the Phoenix magicite is in a hiden dungeon that you probably miss in your first gameplay, the casual player most of the time could not defeat this boss with no external help.

      Omega is pretty easy actually. Junction death to you're status defense junction and get some holy wars. If you mod Gilgamesh he will give you 10 if I remember correctly.
      If you beat the cc group earlier in the game, they will be on Ragnarok on disc 4 and every time you mod a rare card, the card will reappear in a cc members hand. Xu can give you every card back except the rare cards you obtained from the qoc quest. Anyway all in all there is quite a few ways to make your characters op. I just personally enjoy an invincible party wrecking weapon.

      Just Mod Gilgamesh once and you don't even have to get the card back on disc 4 (if ya don't want to) 10 holy wars is plenty to kill ultima and or omega weapon. You get an invincible party so you can just focus on dishing out damage no need to heal/revive.
      But in the end it's moot, people just play games differently so they can enjoy the experience.

      Gravija
      Terra Blast
      Medigo does 9998 damage to the party, but he casts Meteor before hand, Terra blast is blockable with defend.

    With the Ruby Weapon fight, I'd go in with two of the party dead, revive them as soon as the tentacles are buried, and then just W-Summon Hades/KotR with 2x Mime, drop a megaelixir when it retaliates, and then repeat. Great strat to go with.
    As for the cheapest one I remember, I'd say Minerva in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. Mainly because of that one attack she does that deals a lot of damage. That'd be fine, if not for the fact that when her health got low enough, she'd use it TWICE IN SUCCESSION, giving you no chance to recover. Tried so many strategies and I could never beat her because of that dirty tactic.

    Wiegraf... I struggled there so much the first time.
    Basically use one party member as bait for his Cyclops summon, make them stand alone and away from the party when they are targeted by it. Kill the demons asap, then pound on Wiegraf's zodiac form. Revive party member if they go down to Cyclops.
    The Riovanes encounter has a part 3... after defeating him, you end up on the roof of the castle, where an AI-controlled NPC has to be saved (their death causes game over) from Elmdor and his two assassins Celia and Lede. Thing is, the AI is dumb and stays to fight from a distance, instead of running back to your party. Due to the climbing required to get up there, the NPC is nearly guaranteed to die to the onslaught of those three....unless Elmdor's sword spirit (samurai) skill manages to inflict Confuse on the NPC. Only then will they ignore the NPC and go for your party instead. Talk about cheap bs mechanics...

    Ruby weapon strat: beat Emerald Weapon first, take master summon materia, link with HP absorb, plenty of HP-Up and MP-Up, max Barrier and Time materia. Use W-Item for plenty of Elixirs. Go into battle with only Cloud and two other members down. Attack only with KoTR. HP absorb fully heals you at the end of each cast and wall stops half of ultima damage. Refresh wall and haste as they run out and spend a turn on an elixir or max ether when you need MP back.
    No final attack-revive/Phoenix required.
    You literally can’t lose unless you get distracted and don’t keep up with the fight.

      Also make sure you have at least one or two hp plus materia equipped it will raise your health up significantly still be careful when I did it with every comet2 Ruby casts it almost killed me but luckily I had battle enhancement on otherwise do the normal way and that is get to level 75 or so and have the proper materia and shit on oh and make sure you have ribbon equipped too.
